I shut off my computer, went to Yelp and was happy to find someone who specializes in Apple/Mac. I then asked my La Canada Flintridge friends and one person endorsed him whole-heartedly. I called Jack and lucky for me he said to come over in a couple of hours. He has a nice, bright office next to his house, not far from the freeway exit for Trader Joe's. He's so easy to work with--smart, personable and clear. He knew exactly what needed to be done. I have a backup service, but having done a backup install before, I knew that would take days. Jack took care of everything and had my laptop back to me that same day. There is nothing like the security of knowing your computer is only in the hands of one trustworthy person instead of sitting in a backroom, handed off to someone you've never spoken to. Also, Jack is an authorized Apple tech and his fees are fair. He also helped me choose the right router (I was about to buy something I would have regretted). I have told all my Mac friends about him so I thought I should get around to posting here. Two things you should know: 1) Be sure to call first, he only sees people by appointment and 2) He takes cash and checks, no credit cards. If you have a Mac, this is your guy.

I recommend that you allow him to do this, as he then sees your computer in real time while you watch him 'arrow' around, repairing the problem or showing you how to do what you had been trying. In fact, I called him today, allowed him to log in, and, in a few minutes, we fixed it at no charge. You will be extremely satisfied with Guy's expert and professional work. Luckily, Vito answered and was in the office, so I brought the computer in and he offered to replace the hard drive for $140, labor & reinstalling everything (by imaging the old hard drive which was just old, not infected) included. This was at about 4:00 PM on a Saturday, and he would have been able to return the computer that night!! But I wasn't in that big of a hurry and picked it up the next day so the guy wouldn't have to work late. Here's the 5-star part: I discovered that email would not under any circumstances display pictures, and that Windows Explorer/My Computer would not do searches. So using the image of the old hard drive had evidently not gone as well as hoped--the damage, whatever it was, caused some parts of the image to not transfer. Then after Vito did clean re-installs, there were further issues, and the short version is that Vito had to wipe the new hard drive completely and re-install everything from scratch. POINT: after the initial work, he spent at least 5-6 hours on the phone with me, in the office, and on his own getting the new hard drive completely working and all details the way I wanted, at no extra charge, and with no complaints or attitude or hinting that it might be my fault like some people would.
