Surprised to see the overall low-ish rating; I had not just a great meal but an ideal dining experience at Peter's Inn last night. My main dish was perfect. I was warmly greeted at the entrance by Bud. Atmosphere was fun, bustling, lively, enjoyable. Because I was seated at the bar, I ended up in pleasant conversation with neighbors on both sides. A special thanks to Noah, server/bartender/human extraordinaire, who maintained composure - and excellent conversation - despite nonstop orders. A few caveats... Yes, it's a small space. As other reviewers have noted, it's not the ideal spot for a large group. Is it cramped? People do need to squeeze past each other to get around. But it was never uncomfortable at all. Other reviewers have complained about the reservation system. OK, it's slightly old school. Not quite seamless. But I also appreciate that a restaurant not owned or managed by a soulless corporate group needs to allocate resources carefully. To me, emailing for a reservation was such a negligible inconvenience for the pleasure of my meal at Peter's Inn. In exchange, I found a warm and welcoming environment that is not duplicated elsewhere. I can't wait to go back and try something new on the menu. read more

We got to Peter's 10 minutes early, they acknowledged our reservation and then told us we should go down the street to the Greyhound bar because they couldn't seat us for over an hour. Yelp reservations glowed about the garlic bread, they were out of the spread... do that's out. We got a the Pate Foie Gras... it was a piece the size of a quarter on a cold bread base. Food: seasonal and rotating per the staff, they had a lot of variety with steaks, duck, and lobster options. We went with the duck and the veal pasta which was super tasty. We got the scallops and garlic toast to start (definitely a must). Scallops were cooked to perfection. Service: we sat at the bar, but overall the place is very small so expect to be sitting shoulder to shoulder with people. I can't believe it took me so long to visit Peter's Inn. I've heard so many great things about this place and finally decided to book a Friday night date night here. I was pleasantly surprised that I was able to get a reservation for two on such short notice, and they were able to accommodate my request. Upon walking in, the space felt very tight and intimate. I was pregnant at the time and noticed it was quite warm inside, so I asked if we could sit outside. While that wasn't possible, they kindly turned on the AC, which made me comfortable for the rest of the evening. The service wasn't anything remarkable--nothing bad, but not especially warm either--which may have been due to how busy the restaurant was. The highlight of the night was definitely the food. We started with the bone marrow and garlic bread, and both were delicious. The bone marrow, in particular, had great flavor. For our main courses, my husband ordered the steak and I chose the shrimp lemon pasta. Both dishes were excellent--the steak was cooked perfectly medium rare, and my pasta was flavorful and satisfying. Dessert ended up being my favorite part of the meal. I ordered the chocolate pot de crème, which was incredibly rich and tasty. I especially loved the addition of the macarons on top. Don't forget to try their martinis! My husband ordered the dirty martini and highly recommends it. Overall, I would definitely come back. We had a lovely time at Peter's inn! I had the 7oz filet with mashed potatoes and veggies and my friend had the Halibut with lobster bisque as the sauce. We both loved our meals. The steak was so deliciously crispy and salty I wish I could fit another one in my stomach! The ambiance is so cool here, it's a small place but super vibrant in the colors and design choices. The bathrooms are wild but in a good way. We sat next to a lovely couple who encouraged us to get the garlic bread and were so glad we did. Probably one of my favorite Baltimore spots. You definitely need to email them to get a reservation (I'm unsure how walk-ins work). Don't let their website fool you-- they're one of the best bites in Baltimore. It's small inside and I think the menu changes somewhat frequently but they have staples you must get-- the garlic bread, the salad, and the pot de creme are all SO good! Had a lackluster experience. We had to wait in the freezing cold for over 30 minutes. It appeared that they had overbooked all of their reservations. We were sat at a table and the appetizer was delicious, but not served with enough bread. We waited over 30 minutes for the bread to be sent to us. Then they forgot to put our drink order in at the bar, so we had no drinks for our appetizers. I ordered the short rib and it was so tiny that I had no clue how they would expect to charge $38 for a tiny piece of meat in a stuffed pastry with no side. Dessert was the most filling, which was the pot de crème. My husband ate an underbaked cake with solid, rock-hard ganache that was difficult to eat. We were so disappointed overall. I asked for a side salad after I had eaten my pathetic meal, and they refused to make the salad, saying that they had run out of salad. I'm now on my way to Royal Farms because I'm still hungry. The most accurate word to describe our experience here is slow. We were slow to be seated for our reservation and slow to pretty much have anything else completed for us this evening. The bar program had the potential to be good, had we'd been checked on more and been asked if we'd like more drinks. There were a total of 3 cocktails delivered to our table...the potential could have been about double that. A very solid beef carpaccio was delivered. Nice crostini and I loved the arugula salad as an accoutrement. Then for ages...nothing. One short rib en croute was then delivered and the person had enough time to eat 3/4ths of it before the last two entrees were then delivered. The mussels in green coconut curry broth with fresh baguette was actually good...but worth them going foraging in the harbor for them good? Questionable...Bouchon's moule frites in Napa and Vegas are far superior. The surf & turf...scallops and short rib were so small, it was served on a salad plate. Now if it had been phenomenal, it would have been excused but it really wasn't. The team was kind and apologetic, however it was not the experience we were hoping for. Went here for the first time with my husband for Valentine's Day which fell on a Wednesday this year. They are normally not open on Wednesdays so I was pleasantly surprised that they were open for the holiday, as I'd been wanting to try them out. Reservations are only through email- no restaurant land line so you can't even call if you wanted to. This is fine as long as you make reservations ahead of time. I had trouble with the email link on the website and had to text a friend that frequents this establishment for the email address. The place was full so it's clear they have a loyal local following and have no problems with this method. Kind of gave a secret speakeasy vibe. Food was a 4/5. We ordered the house salad and garlic bread for appetizer. Both were delicious and came quickly. We had to wait a substantial amount of time for our steak entrees to come out and they were both, unfortunately, overcooked. The mashed potatoes and veggies that came with it were just okay, nothing special. I was excited about the steak because the reviews hyped it up, but for $50 I was hoping for better. For dessert, we got the chocolate pot du cream which was the best part of the whole meal! It was decadent and decorated with special Valentine's Day themed macarons and candy hearts. Service was 5/5. Waiter was visible and prompt with our orders and very kind. Everyone that works here seems to have worked here for a long time, which speaks volumes for the ownership. Atmosphere 5/5. I went for a friend's birthday and wasn't sure what to expect (their website was a little lack luster), despite only taking reservations via email, my email was answered within an hour. They offer very quaint outdoor seating, which was cool considering the neighborhood. Host staff was very friendly and sat us promptly. In terms of environment, if you can't appreciate small and well utilized spaces where you might get the occasional bump, this might not be the place for you, but, we enjoyed atmosphere. It's a great mix of casual to business casual, the place itself has a great historic charm but still fairly moody for a great date night. Music was exactly what I enjoy; jazz that complimented the atmosphere. We sat at the bar and had great service from Noah. He offered to make anything even if we didn't see it on the menu. Cocktails were great and the wine selection didn't disappoint. I went specifically went specifically for the steak and the NY strip was top notch, perfectly portioned and prepared. On a special visit to see a Baltimore-based friend, we made a reservation for three people for 7pm and were seated right away. The restaurant is small, cozy and crowded with a buzzy vibe. Our server was very friendly and accommodated several special requests re dietary restrictions. There was a pretty long gap between taking our drink, starter and entree orders, conveying a relaxed, no-rush atmosphere. Imagine our surprise, around 9pm, as we were tucking into our dessert (not-to-miss dark chocolate pot de creme), when the owner walked over and asked if we were almost finished with our table as people were waiting. 10 years in NYC, 25 in DC, and I cannot recall more than one other time being asked to vacate a table, especially not after spending nearly $100 per person. The food was fantastic, and we even spotted John Waters on his way out after dining at one of the tables in the intimate back room, but not sure we can recommend. After seeing all the reviews and the Reddit recs I really hyped Peter's Inn up in my head. We tried to come here once but weren't able to because we didn't have a reservation, and that's when the obsession really took off. Every time anyone mentioned going out to eat I had the name Peter's Inn at the tip of my tongue. We finally made a reservation... and it was just kind of disappointing. To start, the space feels tiny - I bumped into the guy sitting at the table next to ours at least 5 times while trying to sit down, and I'm not a big person (if I say so myself). We couldn't really talk about anything because we had 4 other people literally within caressing distance and the music was loud. The table was almost too small to hold all the dishes and drinks we ordered too. And while I will say the food was generally well made and tasty, it wasn't really that special or worth the price in my opinion? I had dinner at Peter's Inn with my husband and a friend for her birthday recently. It's one of her favorite restaurants in the city, and she chose it for her birthday dinner! The menu at Peter's Inn changes all the time. When you arrive, you receive a handwritten menu with their offerings that day. So most of what we tried might not be on the menu anymore, but here's what we ate: an endive salad; tuna tartare; a NY strip with mashed potatoes, a few green beans, a carrot, and a pickle spear; their creamed spinach; a lobster pot pie; a mango sorbet; a lemon sorbet; and a chocolate pot de creme. I wouldn't say that any of the food was very memorable except for that creamed spinach (they add Pernod, which gives it a great flavor); I was skeptical when our waiter recommended we ordered the creamed spinach (it's not usually very good, is it?!), but it was the standout for me of the whole meal. I do like the menu and would be willing to go back to try more of their food - mostly because the rest of the experience was a standout for me. The ambiance and the service were exceptional! We sat at a table outside, which was perfect. The seating is in front of the restaurant on the sidewalk, so it couldn't feel more like a neighborhood bistro! And our waiter was just wonderful; he was personal, funny, chatty, helpful,...he was just great. And it was clear he loves Peter's Inn. On my first visit, the food didn't blow me away. A speakeasy for food. That's the best way to describe it. Food- everything 5/5 I ordered trout pate and tuna tartare for an appraiser, and they were absolutely scrumptious and perfectly plated. For my main entree, I got the short rib Wellington, and that was also truly scrumptious. The sauce that went on it was perfect. The second time for their Last Word cocktail and pot the crème. Since then I get whatever special they have. The waiters are staples of the restaurant industry and have been working at Peter's Inn for decades. Their menu rotates frequently, and it's ALWAYS hand written, but some of the classics and the most simple things like the house salad and the garlic bread are SO CRAVEABLE. The restaurant is a bit tight, it's a row home but it's so quaint and the food and drink quality is phenomenal. From the metal ceilings to the neon cocktail light at the bar, it's a special place. Overall: Really wanted to enjoy this spot and looked forward to it but it isn't for us. Pros: Welcoming hostess. Martini service - one martini in a glass and one refill in small carafe on ice with garnishes, was good. Clams were delicious as was the foie gras. We ordered a last round of martinis to be followed by the pot de crème and French press coffees for dessert. However, the pot de crème showed up *with* martinis. Who doesn't love a salty briny martini with a decadent rich chocolate dessert?! Fine, figured coffees would show when someone picks up the empty martini glasses. Nope. Martinis were done, minutes waiting were passed, and coffee never came, nor did the waiter, for some time. When he showed up to ask if we were finished, we really were done with it all, so got the bill and asked to have the coffee removed from the bill. My friends were right. There's a feel to this place. We loved every single thing we had, but the absolute best part was the pot du crème for dessert with a French press cup of coffee. Our host was very friendly and seated us quickly even though we didn't have a reservation (we got there around 8). Our waiter was very cool. Not overly chatty, but in a good way. He gave us some recommendations on the menu when we asked for them and he would check on us in passing with just the right amount of involvement. Vibes were good. It's in an old dive bar and still feels pretty organic/authentic. It could easily be pretentious about the farm-to-table food, but it doesn't take itself too seriously. If you are thinking about the martini service, just do it. It's so good! My husband isn't a big martini drinker but even he liked it. Dollar for dollar, your best bet! We ordered the oysters with caviar (perfect with the martini!), the house salad, a salmon pasta, a short rib pastry, and their signature dessert. Everything was delicious! Everything I had at Peter's Inn was well executed. There were no blatant flaws in the execution. That said, I found the dishes I tried to be only somewhat interesting and unique. I started with the trout pâté. The spread was very smooth. However, the flavor didn't greatly differ from Philadelphia cream cheese Salmon spread. The dish was not a true pâté but more of a blend of cream and fish. The smoked fish notes were drowned out by the dairy in this one. While it was tasty, I didn't think it spotlighted the trout well enough. I did like the use of the sweet/acidic toppings to contrast with the dairy. The deconstructed french onion soup (beef broth, short rib, onions) held a great intense beefy flavor. The broth was very well executed and tasted of complex broiled beef bones, fats, and mirepoix. The short rib was buttery tender. This dish was excellent. Next I had the 4oz petit filet. The filet was perfectly cooked to my order of medium rare. The steak was of high quality. The veggies on the plate were a nice balance of crunch and tenderness. The mashed potatoes were of smooth texture and brought a lot of buttery flavor. As a side, I ordered the garlic bread. The server said it was a favorite. I found the texture to be very tough. And the garlic on top was underexecuted and had acidic/biting notes on the palate. As a note, both of us found the menu to be too ambiguous. It was very difficult to tell what menu items would actually be. Even after asking our server to clarify things, we didn't have a good idea of what the portion sizes would be for various dishes. I did get a couple cocktails, the Boulevardier and an Old Fashioned. Both were well crafted. I thought the bill total was reasonable. But the menu was definitely difficult to follow. Nothing I ordered blew me away. My meal at Peter's Inn was one of my best this year, including two of my favorite bites this year. I'd had my eye on Peter's Inn for awhile, but am only sporadically in Baltimore. As I happened to be in Fells on a Saturday evening, I knew I had to check Peter's Inn out. I walked in, and immediately felt the tremendous ambiance. You enter through what feels like a side door, like you stumbled into this crowded, old-time bar/inn that feels like it's been there forever. As a walk-in l Party of 1 at 6:15pm, I got a seat at the bar immediately - if I'd been any more, I likely would've need to wait - but what a worthwhile wait that would've been. A friendly bartender immediately tended to me, and I received the menu of the week, which told me that while Peter's Inn hadn't been there forever, a menu # well over 1,000 confirms what I was getting at. I ordered a seasonal cocktail (a play on a cape codder), the short rib en croute, a side of garlic bread, and the vanilla espresso pot de creme. The cocktail and the garlic bread were each very good - the cocktail nice and refreshing , the bread hearty as can be - but the short rib and pot de creme were otherworldly. The short rib was cooked in puff pastry, arriving with a small pitcher of au jus. Every bite was scrumptious beyond belief, only making me want more. While on the small side for an entree, I would order it ten times over. And ugh the vanilla espresso pot de creme was out of this world. Each bite brought a delicious baked smell, a strong yet balanced espresso flavor, and the perfect texture (like a thick mousse). It was a dessert that made me involuntarily "mmm" and somehow each bite continued to be better than I remembered the last being. While a little pricy ($15), it definitely could be shared for two, and is worth every single penny. I felt at home here. Service was attentive, helpful, and conversational. Regulars were to my left. A first date was to my right. Scrumptious food was all around. I would be back to Peter's Inn in a heartbeat, and I'd encourage anyone else to do the same. One of the best hidden gems in Baltimore! Peter's Inn is a small but, busy restaurant that is definitely popular amongst the locals. I highly recommend making a reservation via email through their website because, again it is so busy! The menu rotates weekly. All of the items are very unique and super fresh. The steak tartare came with a quail egg on top and was incredible with the perfect notes of mustard. The scallop was out of this world. Probably the best scallop I've ever had. Although it's one scallop it's very large and the presentation is very pretty! We got the salmon with pumpkin ravioli and clam linguine as our entrees and they were also incredible - the seafood is cooked perfectly and the pasta is made in house! The staff are all very friendly and accommodating as well! They know the menu very well and can definitely give advice if you're having trouble deciding. My wife and I dined at Peter's Inn on 2/11. This was our experience: SERVICE: We were seated at the bar. The staff was very attentive and engaging, hence the lone star. AMBIANCE: The lighting was extremely dim so I couldn't get decent photos for this review. It was as loud you could imagine in a bar atmosphere. The waiting area is nonexistent, so if you're seated at the bar, you'll pretty much have waiting guests hovering over your experience. FOOD: We ordered the 13oz NY strip with potatoes and vegetable blend. Lamb Ragu Tagliatelle, garlic bread, and 4 cocktails. The NY strip smelled and tastes awful. Our steak was over cooked while needing salt and pepper to be palatable. The potatoes tastes as if they are instant, boxed, and mixed with a few real potatoes. The Lamb Ragu Tagliatelle was severely underwhelming in portion and resembled something you would expect to receive in a chain style pasta shop. The garlic bread and cocktails were actually delicious, hence the lone star. NICHE/VALUE: Anyone that's been fine dining knows that Peter's Inn is attempting to structure it's menu similarly in price and description. However, the quality falls well below the mark and absolutely does not justify the price. We could've spent the same amount of money at Oregon Grille, Cinghiale, or Tagliata, and got extremely high quality food. The value isn't there. OVERALL: We really wanted to like Peters Inn as it was highly touted by food bloggers in Baltimore. We love to support smaller operations and want to see Peters Inn succeed, but work needs to be done on the quality. I did not mince words here but to say we we're disappointed is an understatement. We do understand that sometimes establishments get it wrong so we decided to leave a full tip. Hopefully if you choose to dine with Peters Inn your experience will be different. read more

Five stars by virtue of the food alone. We had espresso martinis, wagyu tartar, tuna paté, and pot du créme. Everything was incredible, full stop. Some of the best tartar I've ever had. A lot of very novel flairs - smoked oyster aioli on the tartar, pickled caper berry on the paté. Service was good. As far as ambience, it felt like a neighborhood joint. Overall, an experience you should not miss if you're in Baltimore, and frankly five stars is not enough. read more
