So I have been taking my dog Bailee here for the past 3 months or so and Allen the dog trainer has made the whole process so easy. My dog had parvo and almost died and since the sickness delayed her learning process it was very hard for her to stop the bad habits and get her to learn but Allen helped us with our difficult dog. He is very helpful and he makes the classes fun for everyone. Allen better not leave this Petco because I don't want to have to follow him to where ever he goes hahaha but seriously he's great. read more

I never leave reviews but I had quite a dismissive and unhelpful worker "help" me out today. There was a betta fish labeled as an assorted female that looked 100% like a Midnight Male. There was no visible egg tube, the Gill membrane was very large, the peduncle, caudal fin, and ventral fins were very large as well. The fish itself was on the larger side. I was shopping for a female to place into a sorority or community tank and it would have been very bad if the fish was not actually a female. I asked the male worker who is very tall and quite built for assistance. I just wanted a second opinion or to possibly bring it to a workers attention(I wouldn't want anyone to have any fish casualties if a fish was bought and treated as it if was a female when it may not be) but without looking at the fish(he was significantly taller than I was and I was holding the fish at my level while I was talking) he just pointed at the words on the lid of the cup and said it's a female. I told him that I was just confused by the cup because I didn't think that the fish inside was a female and he stated "No, it's a female" while pointing at the writing on the lid again without bothering to look at the fish. Who knows I could be wrong but it rubbed me the wrong way being that he didn't look like he wanted to help me in the first place then once he was there to help he just pointed at the writing on the lid without bothering to look at the fish. I put all of the fish that I was about to buy back and left unhappy with the quality of service and possible level of training. read more

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH ALREADY with the grooming salon at this Petco. As if it isn't enough that I am made to feel like complete garbage every time I come in because my long-haired dog has some knots in her hair (that's why I'm here, genuises), today they really put on the panache. There is a general air of curtness coupled with laziness at the grooming salon. After getting the run down from the 14 year old groomer, pointing out every knot in the dog's hair, I ask when she will be ready for pick up: "Well, I'll wash her in a bit, then I have to take my lunch...." What? Does that mean my 8-pound, with 6" long hair dog is going to be sitting in a cage, wet, while you go on your lunch? Let's work on how we phrase things, please. When the time came to pick up my dog, the groomer says -- while laughing -- "Wow, she really hates having her ears plucked; she was screaming the whole time!" Glad you find that amusing. I happen to find it heart-wrenching, but then again, I am not the person whose love of dogs led them into their current profession. Then the groomer complained that during that process of pulling hairs one-by-one out of her ears, "He decided it was a good time to release his [anal] glands." First of all, my dog is a female. Second of all, I'm so sorry that the dog inconvenienced you while you were, you know, getting paid to clean dogs, and I'm sorry it's such a bother that you literally scared the shit out of her. As the groomer finishes up and I walk in, my dog spots me and, naturally, becomes very excited, trying to get off the grooming station. But rather than putting on the flea treatment and being done with it, the groomer decides that this is a good time to strike up a conversation with another groomer, all the while oblivious of my dog choking herself. When she starts paying attention again and lifts my dog off the stand, she complains for her to "stop wiggling, calm down!" Meanwhile, she is holding the dog like a sack of potatoes: Any person with even rudimentary experience with small dogs knows that there is a proper way to hold them: 2 hands, close to the body, bottom supported. The dog was scared, uncomfortable, and being handled improperly, and the groomer has the gall, IN FRONT OF ME, THE OWNER, NO LESS, to scold the dog for trying to break free of her death grip. And of course, the groomer was so overwrought with, you know, having to groom dogs, that she forgot the flea treatment altogether and had to chase me out of the store to administer it. I think she overheard me telling my dog the we are never going back to that mean groomer again, and I really hope she did. I hope she reads this, too. Because I get it: you're job is tough. But we drop off our animals and pay good money under the collective assumption that you work here because of a love and respect for animals, and that even in your hardest and most trying moments, you will respond with empathy. Shame on this Petco. read more

I took my dogs to get their Santa pictures today. It was horrid. The cashiers were completely lost. We were bounced back and forth between the photo station and the cashier. We had to pay for the photo ahead of the time. The poor guy that played the role of santa looked to be about twenty something years old. They gave him cheap boot covers that didn't even cover his white shoes. Why couldn't he just wear black work shoes or boots? He was a nice guy but it was obvious that he wasn't too thrilled to be doing this job. The manager came out to take the picture and advised that their printer was not working but that she would take the photo with an iPad and have the pictures developed and ready for pick up by 4PM which was two hours later. So we would either need to wait the time or come back later. She did not offer any type of compensation for this hindrance. I was very disappointed with the experience and currently looking for another location to have my pet pictures taken. Any suggestions? read more

I wanted to give a review not only to the store but more so to the trainer Alan. We got a Boxer as a puppy and even though that might sound cute I am afraid of dogs. I was attacked by a stray when I was 4 and have be scared ever since. We purchased the training packages and I though it would be a one and done type of thing but it wasn't. Alan totally personalized the training for Ace and in that helped me get over my fear. I'm not saying it will work for everyone but he made sure I engaged with Ace's training and made sure I was there for puppy playtime. Our dog is so social, obey's commands and most of all very loving. I attribute this all to Alan's training and direction. He always made time to talk to every owner during playtime and even helped with questions. Thank you Alan. read more

I have been a long time costumer. I called this store and got one price and when I get there its another. That's not right. I will not be going back. I do not recommend this store. Yes ''pistoff" read more

My wife and I adopted a puppy this year and brought him to the "puppy play time" offered by Petco. It has been such a good experience and we want to specifically say thanks to Maggie (the trainer who worked the days we would go) for that. She is very knowledgeable and patient, and taught us so much about our new pup. We also took away a lot of knowledge in dog behavior that we apply to the dog park, and even on walks. The seminar they offer for puppies is free, but I would've paid for it knowing what we got out of it. Of course, there are also dog training classes as well if you're interested. Thanks Petco and Maggie! read more

Never again will I get my dog groomed here.. The head groomer convinced me he needed to be shaved because he had matting around his butt, so I trusted her.. BIG MISTAKE! He came back with patches, and bald spots along his back, and as it grew out it looked worse. I waited 4-5 hours and paid $60 for the worse haircut. I don't understand how these ppl are still aloud to work here, I'm obviously not the only one who has had a bad experience. read more

Never taking my dog back. Tried four different groomers this last one was the worst. Asked them to pay attention to my dogs little feet because they were ill shaven last time...nothing different this time except they missed clipping a toenail. I can go on but it's evident the girl needs more training. You don't "fade" one ear the cut the other straight it just too too much fluff off her poodle ear so ears look lopsided. read more

We signed our puppy, Barry, up for puppy class at Montclair Petco and it was such an amazing class! Alan, the trainer, is so great with the dogs and it's clear that he really cares about all of them! His way of teaching is very clear in that he demonstrates the right way to correct behavior first, then lets us try. He is professional yet still makes the class fun, and I love that he lets us work on specific behavior issues in addition to the curriculum. As soon as Barry graduated from level 1 we immediately signed him up for level 2! We also bring Barry to puppy play time on Saturday. Alan points out what is acceptable puppy play, what is too rough, and signs when a dog is stressed out. We are so happy with the training our puppy has received so far! read more

Ridiculous. The fish tanks were infested with Ich, a DEADLY disease. They had a mouse with a tumor on his back, and one of the guinea pigs had some sort of eye infection. No way. I will never purchase anything here. read more

My husband and myself have been taking our 4 month old Doberman pincher for pet training classes with Allan for the last 2 months. We have learned so many training techniques to help train and socialize our puppy Koba. We love that Allan offers puppy play time on Saturday's and Sunday's to help social all puppies. We definitely recommend puppy training classes with Allan, can't wait to start our next session with him!! read more

There is never anyone around to assist, and when you find them they don't always help. Once I asked for only 7 crickets cause a bag of 15 are to many, I asked a larger man with glasses and he said oh we just put bags of crickets so you can just get them there. LIKE NO! Waste of money.. Then theres this young girl, thin shes very serious to the point it's rude! Then another girl there who is always with the animals is very nice until she cliques up with the other girl they both act rude !?!?!?!??!!?!?They aren't all the same though. My favorite guy there is doug! He's nice and funny he jokes alot & helps you with what you need! Go to him if you ned anything from there. read more

Been here a few times over the years for various items. Most of the time it is to pick up bones or snacks for my dog as she seems to like the brands they carry. I have also been here to pick up my old cats food. She was on a prescription food before someone made a non-prescription version of the food. I went in and they require you to show a copy of your prescription, well mine was expired so the cashier suggested I talk to the vet in the back. I talked to the receptionist, she took my old script and had the vet issue a new one without ever seeing me or asking questions. They said it was because it was only food to help with urinary track infections, not a big deal but they would like to see the cat at some point. They also have a full grooming in the back. No idea if it is good or bad but it is available. read more

Use to love this store in montclair. Was always in there every week. But now it is dirty n trashy and always smells. 90% of the people working there dont even notice when you walk in and act put out that they are at work. I am scared to buy my food in this store in fear it will get my pets sick, the cookie bar always has bugs flying around and in it. There saltwater fish are always sick with ick. There small pets cages are always dirty.. Either I have the worse luck and catch this store on its bad day or this is how they treat there pets... I stopped going to this store cause of how poorly it is taken care of. it is very sad to see the pets treated this way let alone there customers... save yourself the time and money and go to the petco in Chino or Mira Loma... read more

Stopped in at this Petco after I adopted a puppy to see if I could find a trainer. Alan was giving a class so I stayed and watched. His method was so positive and filled with love for the animals that I signed up for puppy 1. I have owned several dogs and used many different training methods but Alan is by far the best trainer I have ever worked with! In the middle of the class I moved to Oceanside but I will continue to come to this store for all the levels of training to keep my puppy working with Alan, he's the best! read more

never will i bring another of my pets here again...this is the second time i had an issue with the idiot vet assistant girl trying to get my dog basic set of first vaccination...they have you wait and waste your time and then want to give you their personal opinion and refuse you service rather than consult the vet himself...total waste of my time. Never again. read more

I had the best customer service ever from the groomers this morning. & when I picked her up knew I will definitely be bringing her back

The grooming folks here are awesome especially Shelby! I adopted a malamute two months ago who is 95 lbs, rambunctious and had apparently never been to a groomer. I checked around a lot of private groomers who were awful to me on the phone, one who manhandled the dog the minute I took him in so I left, and all of whom wanted to charge an arm and a leg and couldn't stop whining about how big he is and his coat is so thick and just waaaaaaaahhhh. Yeesh. And they ALL talked bad about going to Petco grooming. I'm so glad I ended up going to Petco Montclair!! Shelby was so gentle and caring with him but he was just too stressed for her to shave all the terribly matted undercoat. She gave him a bath, brush and blowout but didn't stress him out and when I picked him up did not even charge me because they felt they hadn't finished but he looked and felt amazing. She's trying it with him again today fingers crossed he is calmer but anyhow just wanted to thank Shelby and say I appreciate the grooming people and the way they are so kind, helpful and professional. read more

Horrible experience dealing with Petco of Montclair. I first booked my appointment two weeks in advance. As I was getting into my vehicle 15 minutes prior to my appointment I was sent a text message that my appointment was canceled. Keep in mind if I wanted to cancel I would need to do 24 hours in advance but they didn't even give me that. I went ahead and booked one more time and the day before I was notified my appointment canceled again. This time they found a way to reschedule me as long as I could be there exactly at 3. I showed up at 2:45 and was told I needed to wait 5-10 minutes for a stylist because the employee at the desk was a groomer. 1 hour and 10 minutes later I was finally helped. The stylist informed me it's been 7 months since they last did a cut which to me every concerning .I was told between 2-4 hours for my two pets to be ready. The store closes early on Sunday which I was unaware of. I s was called at 6:51 and told I have 9 minutes to pick up my pets they were ready. I had a discount which was not applied at all when I went up to pay. When I brought it to the employee attention I had to wait in line again to get a refund that would post in 72 hours. I go to pick up my pet and to me it looked incomplete like they ran out of time and just gave me my pets as is. I hope no one else goes thru this please be cautious. I will never go back to Petco of Montclair read more

They carry a reasonable range of products (though certainly not at great prices). BUT: they are NOT good an animal care. Their fish are not properly taken care of or properly handled. Watching a clerk capture a fish for a would-be purchaser, I changed my mind, and simply went over to Jan's across the parking lot. And the staff are surly and unhelpful. You can wait for help for a long time, and then get a clerk who has no idea of what the answer is to your question. Not good. Today I watched a cashier close out her line just as a customer with a clear mobility disability got there. Compelling that customer to walk to another check line was both rude and unnecessary. When you add to these unhappy facts the fact that the parking lot is a nightmare, the conclusion is pretty obvious: go elsewhere if you have a choice. read more

I had a great experience here, this petco is way nicer than the other one here in Chino on grand. I only stood around for maybe 3 minutes but I was looking at the fish so I did not mind at all. This petco also has a bigger fish section so this is heaven for me! Love this place thank you to those who helped me! I definitely recommend this petco. Although I did see the bad comments about the saltwater fish you should really be going to a fish store that specializes in specificity just fish, they have a great variety at Jan's Tropical Fish! Not trying to throw shade just trying to help out my fellow fish lovers! read more

Grooming dept phone failures! That what I guess they never answer attempts to call right when they open, right when they close and in between for the past 1-2 weeks. Even leave my information with who ever the operator and am told I will get a call before end of day. Their excuse for the dept is there too busy to answer a phone. Yet when I go in person there's enough staff that someone could answer the hold calls. I took my dog to a self dog wash after they were itching a lot from their bath and they had dark dirt water coming out of their coat and they are short haired dogs. What is the purpose of having a phone to call for appointments if no one ever answers not even manager Justin who seems to be unprofessional or not really caring about putting any effort into customer service. Having to drive out to the store just to make an appointment with someone face to face seems a huge inconvenience for customers. It's a shame a few and very very in the grooming dept are good at their jobs and wish I can get their service for my pets but their overall handling of customer service has fallen deeply. Someone from district managers should look into this, seems like not even the store manager can get this resolved as it's been an on going Issue for a long period of time now as seen in the previous comments. read more

This Petco location is kind of small and doesn't have much of a selection. The workers are also kind of lazy and don't really help unless you go up to them and actually ask them to please help you. It's also kind of dirty here compared to other Petcos I have been to. Petco was the first pet store I went to when I got my puppy but I actually went to Petsmart the other day and find it a lot nicer. It's bigger, better selection, and the employees are friendly and know a little more about healthier puppy and dog food options :) read more

I usually don't shop PetCo, because they are always so BLAH with their service... but I stopped in here on my way back to LA from Redlands Area to get a new dog-tag for my yorkie because she's gone quite some time without one after I changed my phone number. I think it is necessary to give credit where credit is due, especially when it comes to experiencing above and beyond customer service. Because, let's be honest, good customer service is hard to come by these days. I've always been a loyal Petco customer for at least over 8 years now. And I have been going to the Montclair Petco location for the past 4 years because they are knowledgeable, friendly, and the staff is all about customer experience and of course caring for our pets! This morning, I bought a bag of dog food for my 2 pups online for an in-store pick up. I received an email a few hours later that my order couldn't be fulfilled because what I had purchased was not in stock, even though online it said that the 30lb bag was in stock and allowed me to order it and pay for it giving me a confirmation #. I immediately called the store and spoke with Johnny about the situation and if they had the smaller size bag or if I was going to get refunded for that purchase or what was happening. He checked, and said he did in-fact have the medium size bag even though I bought the large 30lb. He was very friendly on the phone and said to come down and see him and we would figure it out and that he would set the medium size bag aside for me. I was a little upset at the fact that the money I paid for the 30lb bag already got pulled out of my account because that was the money I had set aside for dog food and now I don't have access to it for a few days. I told him I would be in within the hour and headed down there stressin' out. I walked in and Johnny was the first face I saw, I introduced myself to Johnny and told him we spoke over the phone. The overall process was easy, enjoyable, and left with a smile on my face and with a bag of dog food! He definitely went above and beyond with his customer service and how he treats Petco's customers. He was apologetic, friendly, nice, helpful, had a great attitude and worked with us on getting a different size bag for a price we could afford. Overall, we were in and out in 10 minutes or less and happy, smiling, and leaving with an overall GREAT experience at Petco because of Johnny. I came in the store a lil bummed about the situation but because of his help, customer service, and great attitude I left happy and actually had a great and fun experience. I told Johnny it's people like you that deserve to be recognized for going above and beyond the customers expectation and for representing Petco in a 10/10 employee rating scale. I told him you definitely deserve to get a great Yelp review and that I was going to give him one, because, that type of customer service, and that type of employee that he is, is the kind every employer/company/business wants representing their company and making memorable experiences for customers, which in-return makes the company continue to have loyal and returning customers. Basically, thank you so much Johnny for making my experience today at Montclair Petco one I will always remember, and for representing the Petco company in an 5 Star-Rating way! read more

My husband and I had questions about dog training and how to get our pup enrolled. Allan stopped his training and answered all of our questions. We signed up and start on Sunday October 30th. I recently just got a baby kitten and went in to get all my necessities that I needed.. mind you I was having a field day. So excited for my new baby and to spoil him. I asked a question about what's the best cat litter.. and LISA replied "I don't know I've never had a cat" -word for word! I was in shock.. atleast bullshit with me right? No. Straight to the point I can't help you. So I asked if she might be able to bring someone that DOES know.. she did it with a stank attitude. But she did it so I was like cool Lisa was just having a bad day. I went on with my happy vibes. Well fast forward to a week later, I walk in and right when I walked in DUN DUN DUNNNNNN LISA is there.. she greeted me so I thought Lisa was having a better day today. Well then I get up to the check stand and only she was working. So I waited patiently as she text her coworker where they were at. (She made it very clear she was off and no one had came in to work the next shift) then she proceeded to saaaayy "here are you ready I can help you REAL QUICK" with a hurry hand motion.. so I really did try to hurry and put my things on the counter and for some reason she was expecting me to hand every single thing I had into her hands.. no I'm good. She asked if I wanted a bag- I said please. She said we don't have any right here and even blew out an "uuuggghhhhhh" ???? - I said oh nevermind then I can carry out my 10 cans of kitten food -she goes "well I already charged you so" ????? Well then she started literally THROWING my can foods into a bag she walked 3 steps to the next register over to get. And then it dawned on me.. Lisa was very much not having a bad day. She has a stank ass attitude that Lisa very much needs to fix read more

It's sad that this is my local petco. Employees aren't very helpful when it comes to customer service.
