Came here to get my old English sheep dog groomed. Sarah and Vanessa were very nice and explained everything about the grooming process and what they were able to do for my dog. Unfortunately they are very limited to what they are able to do, per Petco policy and my dog was left pretty horribly looking since they couldn't finish the grooming. I can't blame them tho, my dog's ears were very matted. I had to take her to another groomer to fix the matting. My dogs ears and rest of her body are nicely groomed now :) if your dog is badly matted I don't recommend coming here, otherwise it's a great place to take your dogs in for grooming at a reasonable price! read more

Today I went to petco in Montclair to buy some assorted African cichlids. The manager was in the fish department helping someone and said he'd help them & be back to help. Ok fine. He cam back after a long while of me and another guy waiting & while he was tying the customers fish I was standing next to him and began to ask if I can go online to sign up for the petco club & he IGNORED me for over 45 sexonds of standing right next to me silently tying a bag & said finally he would help me after he takes them to the register. Ok. Cool. He comes back and he's all of a sudden in a hurry. I told him that I wanted 3 specific fish and b/c they were faster than he thought he gave me 2 specific & then out whatever he could catch in a bag w about 12 ounces of water & I asked what food can I use and he asked me wheee my friend was at to help me with that! I said my friend isn't at work at petco! He then took my fish to the register & began to help the other guy who had been waiting for literally a few minutes. It felt very rude and disrespectful and I'm going to complain as high as I can go, I'm so tired of ppl being so comfortable and unchecked that they treat ppl this way. read more

Buyer beware ! In my opinion, if you have a choice, you should absolutely go elsewhere! Look at their rating and save yourself the frustration. I had a terrible experience with this business. My stylist was rude, and completely unprofessional. They misrepresented the time it would take to care for my dog, which caused me to miss work. My dog was stuck there for *five hours* despite being told the schedule was open that day. On top of that, they tried to upsell unnecessary services, claiming things like matting--even though my dog had been groomed just four weeks earlier and was in perfect condition. It felt deceptive and manipulative. The stylist was extremely rude and even had the nerve to expect a tip! Laughable. It's clear they prioritize upselling and squeezing more money out of customers and respecting appointment times. If you're not purchasing a bunch of add-ons, expect your pet to be pushed to the bottom of the list, regardless of when your appointment was scheduled. Never again. I'll be taking my business to a private groomer going forward. Buyer beware--avoid this location! Truly awful service. read more

I have come here a few times recently. One of my two cats is very finicky, as they only have one food here that she will eat only sometimes. I have ordered online, and I now I know exactly where to go to get the food she needs. It's in the fresh food fridge in the middle of the store as they only have two items of fresh food for cats here. I usually get only the beef and chicken Fresh Pet Vital Paté. It's very tough when you have a picky cat. I wish she was like the other cat, who will eat anything. His favorite here is the same or the other cat wet food item, which is the chicken pre-cut fresh Pet Vital bites. I do wish they had more of a selection here. Maybe ones with fish. The cashiers are always really cool and helpful. I like coming here because it's the closest place to my home for my cats. I will be back soon!!! read more

This company is so cheap they refuse to upgrade their trashy phone line. I called the first time, the Ai female said just wait on the line, you wait, sends you to a dead end transfer saying press 0 to speak to an operator, 3 seconds in, GOODBYE. Click. Hangs you up. It was so fast. I called the second time, i got a girl. Her line was VERY crackley. Ehh....Oh, *breaks up*. I cant hear you lady, *hangs up*. I called the third time, got a dude. He sounded way better but still garbage as you can hear a bit of static. I asked, do you have this flea medicine on site? He says nothing, sends me to the waiting music. At this point I was getting pissed. I dont normally get mad. Im very patient and polite but theres an order that i made might not get it and they kept the money so far. When the phone was transferred, i got the girl again. She asks in garbled static, can you hear me now? I said, your line is trash. How can anyone call you for appointments or emergency issues for a pet? Shes gone. Empty, no sound. Either the call dropped or she hung up. I wasnt using Wifi calling, i made phone calls before Petco to talk to 2 doctor appointments, Urology, Primary and my Insurance, both calls were crystal clear. So i thought this was only me but my dad calls because this is his issue. I was only doing it because hes Autistic, old and sometimes confused. But he calls and same thing. He gets the girl, he said, i cant hear you. She tells him their line isnt working. She hangs up. We ordered a flea medicine that is practically a medication prescription and they have to have your vet to approve it so they can mail it out. My dad was actually able to luckily talk to someone and said no they do not have it at their stores. He asked, why do you even sell it online for then? We had trouble cancelling it because they couldnt do that. Banfield says talk to Petco, Petco waiting for approval but Banfield isnt looking at it. So the money sits in Petco's bank account and we are having trouble cancelling the order of $93. This is why Petco deserves a 1 star. They make millions of dollars or more, and cant invest in better phone lines. So why sell it if no one can approve it and we cant communicate to anyone to cancel it or get an approval? Sounds shady dont you think? So the money, what happens to it? You keep it? NO way! My dad had to make an appointment so that they do the check up on the cat, and then the records are there, and then approve it but was this a way to make money by bringing your cat in and make money off of your order holding it like it was on ransom? I couldnt even get on Petco's chat. It kept spinning and spinning for 30 mins. Nothing was connecting. Ad blockers turned off, nothing. There is so much fail going on in one sitting, if you need to communicate with this business, you aint gonna get it! No one will care about you or your pet, they take your money and the CEO buys a new Porsche instead of fixing their trashy phone lines. Petco would be like the last go-to but i rather go to Banfield. At least their phone lines work! If Petco were to some how lose their business, this is the perfect reason why. Experiences like this keeps people away and find better solutions and professionalism. If you cant call to see how you pet is doing or make an appointment, how do you do business? That is the rant. So much frustration and complication all due to buying a product, flea medicine, and this whole thing blows up into this. My dad wanted this medicine, there are other options out there, i had a feeling this would happen but he insisted. So now its his problem but just doing this for him, one item you buy online, you get this huge article of complication. Horrible. She also said my dog had minor mats, which he did not having been not only recently groomed, but I had brushed him out just a few hours before. It was definitly an "upsale", as many reviewers have also mentioned. Then she said if I didn't agree to the $10.00 extra she refused to do the grooming. Mgr. was called, and she defended her refusal now to do any grooming. We walked in expecting just another quick errand, and walked out wondering if we should adopt Berto too. He went above and beyond helping us--like, Olympic-level customer service. Not only did he actually listen (a lost art in retail), but he also managed to save us money in the process. Who does that anymore?? Answer: Berto. He's basically the superhero of Petco--cape not included (though I wouldn't be surprised if he had one under his uniform). I stepped into this emporium expecting the smell of hay, fur, and good old-fashioned grit, but what greeted me instead was the faint aroma of lavender-infused dog shampoo and the gentle hum of hamster wheels spinning in synchronized leisure. In my day, a dog slept on the floor--if he was lucky! Today? Dogs recline on memory foam beds, wrapped in fleece blankets, and dine on kibble that sounds fancier than my last supper: "grain-free, duck-and-sweet-potato medley." Sweet potatoes! For a dog! In my time, they'd have gnawed on an old boot and wagged their tails in gratitude. And the clothing! By thunder, dogs now wear puffer vests, Halloween costumes, and even little bow ties for "special occasions." Imagine slapping a sweater on your mutt in my day--it'd have been grounds for a public flogging, or at least a stern talking-to by the local blacksmith. I once knew a mastiff named Old Grim who would've bitten your hand clean off if you tried to put so much as a ribbon on him. Now, dogs prance around in rain boots and snoods like they're auditioning for high society. But let's talk about the veritable buffet Petco offers--if you happen to be a carnivorous rogue like a few of my old companions. Birds in cages, ferrets in glass boxes, rows of mice scurrying on wheels--it's a banquet fit for a medieval banquet hall! Old Grim and I once ran with a wolfhound who'd have taken one look at that parakeet display and said, "Lunch is served." Yet here, these critters live in luxury, with toys, hammocks, and even tiny hideaways shaped like castles. Castles! For a hamster! In my day, the only "castle" an animal knew was the scrap pile behind the butcher's shop. And the cats, oh, the cats! These regal beasts now poop in boxes filled with perfumed sand, as though they're burying treasures instead of turds. In my time, a cat did its business in the great outdoors, as nature intended. And if you had the audacity to trap their waste in a box, the cat would've scratched your face off and left you for dead. Today's cats, however, seem perfectly content with their scented confines, daintily pawing at clumps as if inspecting a fine vintage. Even the fish aren't fish anymore. These shimmering creatures reside in aquariums that look more like underwater discos, complete with neon lights and fake castles (again with the castles!) to swim through. I once caught a fish by accident while trying to scoop water from a creek--it flopped about in my hand, its fate sealed. Here, a fish is a revered family member, with entire shelves dedicated to tank accessories, fish food, and water conditioners. Conditioner! For water! I've never conditioned anything in my life. In short, animals are no longer animals--they're miniature royalty, living better than most people did in my day. While I chuckled at the sight of a guinea pig gnawing on a carrot in its luxury habitat, I couldn't help but feel a pang of envy. Perhaps we've gone soft, or perhaps we've finally realized that even the beasts deserve a bit of comfort. Either way, I'll return to Petco, if only to marvel at the sheer absurdity of a world where dogs wear pajamas and cats have their own scented litter aisles. My daughter wanted to look around at various little animals so we looked at the fish, and there was a chinchilla, some mice and she wanted to see cats so we asked about the cats and they said there weren't any even though sign out front said that there's an adoption event for cats today. I love the sales and have previously had great customer service. Today was not one of those days. We waited over 10 min to get service for Crickets. My husband had to go the front of the store to find an associate. I visually seen several associate, beside the gentleman who came up to help, on the floor and walking to the storage or back of the store. The customer in line in front of us was returning about five or more items, including a live pet, and had just as many receipts to check. Not a problem for the 1st five minutes with only one other customer behind us. I said, "Excuse me, do you have any back up cashiers?" Mark snapped back. "Yes!" And that was the end of that. No call for a back up cashier. Definitely a problem when it's approaching 10 min and now we have five customers in line behind us. We could hear another female associate on the isle near the check out line. My husband waved to her over the shelving to try and get her attention and I said out loud, "You have five to six customers in line now!" Mark yelled at me, "I know!" I yelled right back at him, "I wasn't talking to you!" He then used the Smartphone to call John for back up cashier. I get the return customer was giving him a bad time. I honestly believe she was trying to confuse him because she did not seam to have all her necessary receipts. I get he thought I was yelling at him the 2nd time...but he never should have yelled at me or yelled back at me and as soon as he seen the return was going to be awhile, like five minutes or more, he should have called for a back up without any customer having to ask. This was very poor customer service, for all of us that had to wait that long for another cashier to be called. That is cashier training 101! I'll just go to the other Petco from now on. read more

I just wanted to thank Sonia for her help with my fur baby. Jim who is just as amazing recommended Sonia for my dog. She informed me that he might have an ear infection and might need to get some of his baby teeth extracted. I took him to the vet the next day and they said she was right! We got him the medication for his ear infection and also got him the surgery to get 12 TEETH EXTRACTED!! Asked if they could honor their 10% off of $50 online code since I was spending over $70 on live plants and you can't order them online and cashier and manager didn't want to help at all and were super dismissive. This review is mainly for my experience at PetCo Clinic at this PetCo location. It was a 5 star service and a 3 star visit at this particular location. 5 star because... I have been taking my cats for their annual vaccines at PetCo Clinics for three years now. I really appreciate the Petco Clinic emails reminding me when my cats are due for their shots. It is important that my cats stay health and live forever and ever. So the vet and vet assistants are SUPER nice here. They love animals and always super friendly to fur babies. Since it is Covid-19 time, PetCo changed their service to appointment only instead of walk in first come first serve. In addition, they only allow one pet parent and one pet in at a time during the appointment. My last visit was a bit hectic since my cat was not happy about getting shots (again in 2 months) and I was trying to pay for his shots while he was MEOWING on top of his lungs to make sure everyone in the store know he is "hurting." The vet and assistants were super friendly to my cat and trying to pet him to calm him down. 3 star because... I understand the store limited the number of humans in the store but don't have to limit the number of carts at the store. I have a big cat and was really looking forward to get a cart so I can put my cat's carrier on top. To my surprise, there were NO carts! Also the store had 2 cashiers at the time I visited. One of the cashier was nonchalant about the line quickly forming in the store while the other cashier took her sweet time checking out customers. My 5-minutes easy in and out vaccine appointment was dragged out to a 20 minutes visit at the store. I was not happy about the cashier chatting around with another employee while the other cashier also had no sense of urgency. So, I would love to come back for my cats' vaccine, but not sure about coming here to purchase. read more

Absolutely a disaster I've only been to this Petco Grooming Salon one other time years ago for my dog Bailey to get his nails grinded, because his quicks are too long they cannot cut his nails. I decided to take him in because they were way overdue. As I entered the store I made sure Bailey went to potty before entering. He was happy as a dog could be. My dog has anxiety as do many animals after Covid and also they really don't care for vets, groomers etc. He's never been aggressive and is a very social dog. Doggie Park trips 4 times a week. Never had a problem. We go to the grooming service section I have his shot records, rabies records and I get a very unpleasant Hello. I explain that he has some anxiety and that once I'm away from him he's fine, it's just the initial leaving. He just gets a little nervous, pants, and maybe a little whiny. The girl took the papers and said ok well if he's Unruly we will just stop the service being done. I said fine. She reaches down and tells me to take off my leash from his harness. Bailey doesn't do well with choke style collars, especially the rope ones. I tell her just leave him with his harness on he's going to walk back with you once I'm out of his sight. She proceeds to tell me to take it off getting alittle abrupt in her tone with me so I did as she asked and Bailey was flaying around and shaking his head and gagging and choking terribly. She really got him worked up now so I took it off immediately and said you are not choking my dog anymore and she switched to a different style rope which was better. I proceed to walk away to get out of sight and he was up on the table not even making a movement as she proceeded to do his nails. Then she stopped and talked to someone for awhile then went back to Bailey then stopped to say hi to another dog and then went back to Bailey then she was finished. She carried him to the front and as I went to take of her collar and put the leash on his harness she says NO you can't do that you must hook yours before taking mine off. I know my dog he is NOT going anywhere and he's confined to a tiny space and I had a hold of him and his harness. I go to undo the rope and she yells "NO YOU CANT DO THAT", I said excuse me? I'm going to take this off and put my leash on my dog. She said " you're breaking our policy", well ok then. It literally takes 2 seconds to put this clip on my dog's harness and POOOF. IT WAS DONE. She didn't say goodbye, thank you. She rolled her eyes at me and snickered. Never again will I go to this Petco again. Terrible experience and so BOSSY AND RUDE! read more

This review is for the grooming department, more specifically the stylist Justin. I had my 2 dogs come in for their grooming, one had a haircut and the other just had a bath. The 2 stars are for the girl who gave my dog the bath because she did awesome and I have no complaints with her. But from the moment we came in, Justin was very disconnected and not personable at all. He was leaned back in the chair and didn't engage in conversation at all. I had to initiate all the talking. I was worried because he was the one who was scheduled to do my dog's haircut. He never asked me what I wanted done with my dogs haircut. All he asked was "same haircut as last time?" And "do you want the butt area trimmed?" To which I said yes because I wanted it TRIMMED, not shaved. I'm pretty specific on what I want done with my dog's haircut so I assumed that he would give the same haircut my dog got the last time he came, which was a mistake. I was willing to overlook the fact that my dog's haircut wasn't exactly how I wanted it (due to the fact Justin never asked me what I wanted) but then upon further inspection of my dog, we see that he has cuts and scratches on his belly and I have no idea where they came from. Justin never told me if he had gotten fussy during the haircut. Actually, Justin didn't say anything to me when I came to pick my dogs up. What a friendly groomer. We also find that around my dog's butt has been completely SHAVED. Which I never agreed to do. Now my dog has a weird looking bare butt area and who knows if that hair will ever grow back. I don't blame Petco because I've come here several times before and I've typically been satisfied with the groomers and their work but something seriously needs to be done with Justin. If you don't like interacting with people and dogs, then why are you a groomer? It just felt like a very cold visit with him. He said maybe 20 words to us during the whole experience. I'll definitely be back but I'll just specify which groomer I want next time. I also got ripped off at the checkout when I told the cashier I wanted to add a singular tip to both of my dog's bills and she applied the tip to EACH of theirs so I payed double what I wanted to which I wish I didn't now that I was able to closely inspect Justin's poor work. They also need to do a better job in grooming about picking up the phone when people are calling. I had tried calling multiple times in the morning with no answer. Then when I was in the store, I heard "grooming call on hold" over and over and no one in grooming answering the phone or the phone even ringing in there. I don't know maybe turn up the ringer so you can actually answer the phone? read more

Rules are rules. Our daughter's dog has renal failure, gets daily subcutaneous dialysis, has been on the same brand of frozen renal diet for over almost 2 years, and sees her vet every month or two. She is out of town and we ran out of the renal diet. We have the Petco vet approval card, but it states it expired a couple of weeks ago. We cannot give her regular food and our daughter will not return for 3 days. Of course, the people at Petco cannot give us a small supply until our daughter returns and cannot recommend an alternative. They say they have sent an e-mail to out daughter 2500 miles away and she needs to take her dog to a vet. We are stuck on what to do and not harm the dog. Help read more
