I am the proud servant to a black panther who gets just about everything he wants. He's got me trained like a dog! I came in to get some litter so my Master can have a clean experience when using the toilet. At the checkout i entered my phone number in to log points but apparently I needed the app on my phone to get my $5 discount. The actual retail portion of Petco is wonderful and the staff is fine. I take my dog in to the clinic for injections when necessary. I've been over to the grooming area three times to get my pugs nails trimmed and they have turned me away all three times. Today I went again and they didn't come out and speak to me. I stood there for almost 5 minutes while the two girls that were behind the windows kept looking at me. Finally, one of the girls came out, and I asked her about getting my nails trimmed for my pug and she said no they didn't have time and I proceeded to tell her that I understand this is a walk-in service and she's arguing with me and I told her that they need to get their crap together on the information that's on the website and what they tell you when you're standing there in front of them and I said no worries that I would not be back. I proceeded to the cashier to pay for the shot that I had received for my pug, and this woman comes up, starts yelling at me and telling me that they don't allow customers calling them names which I had no idea what she was talking about. I did not call the girl any sort of name and I did not curse at her either and they were accusing me that of telling me that I was no longer welcome, which was fine because I had no intentions of returning. So evidently the blonde girl that came out to tell me that they had no time made up this whole story to some other woman. It is a nightmare in the grooming area so beware enter at your own risk. This is about Pet Grooming. We used to take our dog here for grooming. He is 5 years now and have been to this place and other Petco locations. The last time they indicated that he was aggressive. But the groomer completely avoided us when we went to pick up our dog. Since then he has been to 2 groomers while in town and away from town. Not a single issue. All in all, I would be VERY cautious taking your dog for grooming here. We have even stopped shopping at Petco! read more

I scheduled my dog's grooming appointment with Mandy, which had to be planned months in advance due to her popularity. My fiancé arrived to the appointment and was told Mandy would not be working with our dog because she was unavailable, as was currently working with another dog. Not once did anyone try to reach out and say, "hey Mandy is running behind," or "hey, Mandy is just too busy today, she's not going to be able to accommodate your pup, can we reschedule?" Don't wait til we get to damn place to tell us she's not available when I specifically booked months in advance to guarantee she would be the groomer. What a damn shit show of a place. Absolutely no consideration for other's time, no common courtesy, no explanation until pressed for one... seriously must be kids running this damn place, and unsurprisingly Petco has no customer support, which is the reason I decided to voice my concerns on here! Edit: Since the manager thinks there was no way I could have chosen Mandy, I decided to edit my post to upload my confirmation email from 2 months ago. Also, not sure what the reply about cancellations is referring to, as it was not a cancellation. No on called to cancel or reschedule anything. My chi-terrier got a nasty nail injury while we were driving from San Jose to Folsom.Her back paw was bleeding a lot unfortunately it was 10pm and no vet was open.Needless to say I didn't sleep well I was so worried! I was able to schedule appt next day at the "Vetco" which is an actual vet clinic inside Petco store. All the check-in clerks were great.No long wait at all.The vet that treated her,Ricky Walther,was amazing! The bill was very reasonable. Matter of fact,when we got home our local vet in SJ charged more...it was only a follow up to make sure she was healing. Today I brought him in for a regular routine shave and they first questioned it they were going to do it. Then proceeded to say that there was an additional $20 fee for brushing BEFORE A SHAVE??? when I questioned the logic and why this has changed from years of bringing him there, the reply was "umm... so I'm the new salon manager and this is what I am recommending.. Absolutely NEVER GO TO THE GROOMERS HERE EVER! Zero stars if I could! Read other reviews I am not the only one. Shut down this groomers! I took my dog in here to get groomed. He's been going here for the last four years every 2-4 months and multiple groomers there have groomed him. Shane and Kendra have done a great job. He's an old dog and has fatty lipomas that he's had since a puppy. They aren't big or an issue. They are just there. He has been going to the vet twice a year and has had no health problems aside for old age arthritis. He was jumping sitting and following commands excited to get groomed. Not anxious being a good dog. Alyssa, or is it Ashley? She lies about her name... but see other reviews... the new salon manager said that they refused to groom him and that she was banning him from all Petcos to be groomed because he was old and had a pain problem. He may be old but he wasn't in pain. The last time my dog took a pain pill was over three months ago. She has absolutely zero experience with animals, and she even pulled on his leash when we were trying to exchange leashes, hurting him. I wanted to press charges against this person because she hurt my dog and now my dog unfairly can't get groomed at any Petco for no reason at all. He's just an old dog and I asked her to be careful with him and she took that as him having "a lot of medical problems." This woman is not a vet and clearly inexperienced, quite frankly she was just being lazy. And didn't listen. Then she lied to the store manager and told her that I said the dog had a lot of medical problems which is completely untrue. Unsafe Rude Didn't make eye contact Lied Incompetent Condescending Passive aggressive Just wrong. I think Alyssa or her name is Ashley ??? whatever may even have a mental health issue. Get help. I have been taking my dog here for nail trim for years. Unfortunately the last and final time was a nightmare. Somehow my dog was unharnessed and the groomer did not have hold of her and she either jumped or fell off the grooming table. Luckily she was not hurt but was yelping in fear. Grooming salon is AWFUL. I thought I'd try a new grooming place. First time I took my dog here, the lady was super sweet and did a really good job. This time -HORRIBLE! Unfriendly staff. Deserai was the groomer. Said 3-4 hours. Took 5 hours. When I came to pick my dog up she was just finishing her up. Saw her yank my dog off the groom table. I said not to cut her eye lashes, she chipped my dog's lashes off. Sad! She didn't finish my dog and said it's because I showed up and my dog saw me through the window. How is this my fault? 2:45 pick up time, I showed up at 3PM I think 5 hours was plenty of time to groom my dog. Claimed my dog saw me and got anxious so she couldn't finish her haircut. Had me come back the next morning to finish my dog. Desarai had a bad attitude, isn't friendly and honestly not kind to animals. Very unprofessional. Took my dog back next morning. Reluctantly! Took them 2x to get her haircut fixed. The manager Alyssa was also rude to me. Also had a bad attitude and ripped my dog out of my arms. So unprofessional! The store manager Batman was super sweet, very helpful and understood my concern. Refunded my money after my complaints. That's the only good thing about this experience. My poor dog was traumatized from going back and forth and getting man handled. I'll never go back. Go somewhere else where they actually enjoy animals or your poor dog will be traumatized. I brought my dog here last year to Vetco here at Petco because of the amazing team they have here. They always were concerned and gave the best care to my dog Cali. It was convenient to do the Vetco Premier because of her age, she had frequent visits and each visit was treated with care by the staff. Yesterday was the worst day and I brought in for an issue she had that morning and I unfortunately had to put her down, the doctors and staff talked me through it and made sure she was comfortable. They let me have as much time with her before and after. I highly recommend this vet and the premier package they offer, it is worth it. Thank you Vetco! This review pertains to the GROOMING services only. If you want a place that has any respect for costumers I 0 out of 10 don't recommend. Cut itself was just okay - a little uneven, but they also did not clean around the eyes which seems like a basic part of the upgrades package. The real issues I have is with the way they treat their customers. My 16 year old daughter dropped our dog off for an appointment and then when it was time to pick our dog up they said it had to be someone over 18 - fine, company policy - would have been nice to know at time of drop off but the RUDE treatment of my daughter and the nasty way they spoke to he and about her amounts themselves was wildly inappropriate. We will not be back. For those wondering my dog is 10 lbs and the cost of the bath/cut was $100+. Seems like for that price they could at least pretend to be nice to paying customers. read more

We have always had a pleasant experience with all groomers at this location and other locations throughout the Sacramento area. Then we met Ashley. We had her last month and then again this month, and I should've gone with my gut and not returned to her. Krystal and Kendra are wonderful. Ashely does not have any customer service skills and would not make eye contact when speaking with me both times. She was not friendly or welcoming with the puppy and did not do anything to make him feel comfortable. Ashley was not aggressive, but she was NOT warm at all. She did a 2 minute assessment on my pup and determined that he will no longer be welcomed at any petco location. A 2 minute assessment determined that! and negates all the dozens of times my pup and his groomers had positive experiences. Petco, my pup is not aggressive and just didn't like Ashley. Please keep the experienced Groomers and let the green ones learn from those who know how to handle well-behaved and friendly dogs. read more

It is with frustration and regret that I have to give a poor review for Petco. I've always had a soft spot for Petco as it was my first job in high school. Unfortunately, this location literally always falls short on the customer service. And the products are overpriced. If the high prices weren't enough, the rude and unhelpful employees are the icing on the cake. I understand the high prices everywhere with inflation, but the crickets here are 0.07 cents more each (almost double in price) than the typical rate. I typically pay 0.10 each but these are 0.17. I have many pets; fish, frogs, reptiles and a cat and dog. I spend a lot of money here. And I'm definitely going to start shopping around for a pet store with sales associates that actually have a customer focus. On my visit today, I waited over twenty minutes for 20 small crickets. I saw the sales associate take off with the bag, and I went to follow him, and he was wandering the aisles with the bag of crickets. I'm pretty sure it was his first day, and I can empathize and have patience with that, but I look at the bag and there's dead crickets and only 12 live ones. I had to ask to get 20 live crickets. He goes back, and he's obviously got a training gap, because the struggle to obtain some more crickets and add air to the bag is apparent. In the meantime I also asked for a bunch of live anacharis plants. The kid has no clue what I'm talking about and goes to get a more "experienced" associate. She literally walks up with an irritated scowl and barks, "what's up?" at me. Not "hello, how can I assist you", or any other polite salutation. I ask for a bunch of anacharis while standing in front of the tank and pointing. She looks completely dumbfounded and has no idea what I'm asking. I repeat, "may I have a bunch of anacharis plants?" while standing in front of the tank and pointing directly at the plant. Finally I guess a synapse in her brain fired and she looks relieved. She starts filling a bag with water.I asked her for no water, just a bunch of plants in a bag. I'm going straight home and I don't need a bag of water. She fills the bag with water. I tell her "do you mind removing the water? I don't want it, thanks" to which she looks completely annoyed, even though I gave concise directions in my request seconds before. She hands we the bag and literally turns away without saying a word. Finally I have the twenty crickets, and the bag of plants. Personally I could have done this task in five minutes. And any other pet store would have done the same, with a smile. This request took the better part of 30 minutes to complete. I get to the register and poor new boy is told to go open the register. I was silently cringing inside, as I saw another gal who looked like she knew the register well was almost done. Well the poor kid had a really hard time because he had no idea how to look up anacharis. Another 7 minutes go by, moments of my life forever wasted. Poor kid. It's very disheartening that a brand new employee is not being properly trained by a person with any kind of skills. I felt bad for him. This store is the epitome of the phrase, "customer service is dead". When I was employed by Petco, our store had specific training protocols, and an emphasis on customer focus. I don't know what happened but after 15 years I think I'll cancel my Petco pals rewards. read more

My 6 year old won a gold fish at a school carnival and it died within a week. I went down there by myself to get a replacement and the guy who helped me in the fish department was extremely helpful. He got me water conditioner and better food. He also told me about the sale they had on fish tanks till the end of the month which I appreciated. I went down there a couple of weeks later and got a 20 gallon tank in time for the sale. As I got it out to my car - my son ran in front of me and I dropped it. It smashed all over the parking lot & my son was hysterical. It was terrible and embarrassing. The folks there were BEYOND nice because not only did they replace the tank for me.. they carried it out and swept up the glass. They made a really difficult situation better within seconds. The staff was pretty helpful and friendly. I came in to get information of the different types of dog food, and the lady I talked to knew so much! She took her time explaining what the different brands offer. It's a great store to find any pet related items. It's like a Pet version of Target! When I got to the cashier, I was pleasantly greeted. She was very polite. The store looked well kept and organized. There was plenty of parking, and was well lit at night. It's located in the same lot as Sprouts. I took my elderly dog Twinkie to Vetco because I purchased pet insurance and received a free vet visit. I made the appt. in November for him to be checked out and at that time the vet spent a very long time discussing if euthanizing or not was appropriate and they advised me not to get his shots as he wasn't feeling well. Come March, I knew that it was time because my dog was not doing well and based on the information given to me at the prior visit, I was able to schedule a time to be evaluated for euthanasia for him. The vet and vet techs took extra time to explain everything in thorough detail and the decision to put him to sleep was made. I was able to hold him and after he was sedated and spent time saying my farewells. Thank you for being so helpful and caring with Twinkie. read more

Shopping for our new dog because ours just got put down due to cancer and I over hear Alyssa the grooming manager was talking with a customer and that was the most unprofessional conversation I've ever heard. No compassion for the elderly dog or the customer. Then I walked around the corner to catch pieces of the groomer getting an earful from Alyssa. The groomer I think her name was Ashley looked like she was about to cry from the way Alyssa came and talked to her after the customer. Very unprofessional I will go to Petsmart from now on period. I took my small, non-shedding to Folsom Petco to Ashley for routine grooming. 3 hours later I was called and told the grooming had been stopped because my do was aggressive. Henry, my 7 year old MalShi is timid and not aggressive at all. He has been groomed regularly through out his life and has never been anything but adored. I can only imagine what Ashley did to him to make him fight back. He would not lash out without feeling as though he were being attacked. Well I really did not want to be the person that causes anyone to have a bad day. The first time I had my dogged groomed by Mandy, it was perfect she asked me about special shampoos and my dog came out beautiful. This time they didn't ask me anything and I forgot. Dropped my dog off at 0900 and asked about how long. I had picked up some hours during the middle of the night at work and if it would have been awhile, I would have gone home to sleep. I was told by Devon it would be 1.5-2 hours. I decided to go eat and run errands. 3.5 hours later no call so I go in and was told 30 more minutes. I asked why the delay and was told someone called in sick. Ok I get it , I went and sat in my car. When I went to pick up Lola I was very polite and asked them next time if they could update me if there were delays ( they text me nonstop before the appointment). They did not let me see my dog and gave me a paper to go pay at the front . I thought that was weird because I wanted to tip. I'm standing in line and Devon came up to me and told me to come get my dog I didn't have to pay since I was so unhappy. I told him I had not even seen my dog yet how could I know and just because there was a lack of communication didn't mean I wanted free service. I told him I would absolutely pay for my dog but in the future communication would be helpful. He called me a liar and said he did not give me a timeframe that he would not have anyway of knowing how long that it would take. This is ironic since he told me they were behind due to a call off. I was so embarrassed as other costumers were watching the exchange. I asked to speak to a manager and he told me he was the manager . I asked for someone above him and I then spoke with Elston. By this time I was in tears as I had been awake for more than 24 hours and I never wanted to be the cause of someone's bad day. The second manager was a bit more friendly I told him I did not want free service but an apology . He apologized for the rude behavior. When I saw my dog, I was less than impressed especially since the first time was so wonderful. The hey gave me a discount and I tried to tip because at the end of the day they did take their time to groom my dog .. the manager would not let me tip. All very disappointing and now I'm looking for a new groomer in Folsom. Communication and kindness go a long way and these young managers here would do well to have some courses in customer service. I will never offer an unsolicited suggestion again. I will quietly take my business elsewhere. read more

Where do I began, my family and I come here for our pets food, for all our needs to build our own porch pond with the fish, snails, and shrimp for it. The employees are always welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable about any questions we have. We went in just a few days ago and they had the cutest little animals right in the front of the store... Chinchillas!! Omg they were so cute. I asked a million questions about them and the girls there answered them all. They suggested some videos and websites I could watch at home to decide if we wanted to come back and purchase one, the one video they suggested we watch for a cute one is a Chinchilla taking a dust bath.. the nice girl said once you see this you I'm sure you will be back to buy one. She was right, we were up all night researching how to take care of them, what to do and not to do, (they suggest to buy 2 or more of the same sex because in the wild they are in packs, can't get them wet because their fur can mildew, ect..) so anyway we went back the next morning and got 2 of the Chinchilla brothers. Omg they are so so CUTE!! SOFTEST FUR ever!! And they just hop around playing with our kids.. The employee working yesterday was so nice and helpful. She helped us with a checklist to buy all of the needs we would need from food to toys to treats for our nee fur babies. She even helped us get all the on line prices and we saved a lot. One suggestion I would make is to check order a Chinchilla cage/enclosure before you buy one because Petco didn't have any nice looking ones when we went. **If your thinking about buying a Chinchilla do it... buy 2... they are definitely worth it!!! read more
