I signed my dog up online for agility 2 weeks before the class was scheduled to start. I did not receive any receipt or confirmation, but the money was withdrawn from my account. I did not hear anything from Competition Canine so I went ahead and called the day before his class was set to start, just so I could confirm. The person on the phone informed me that the class was cancelled! And was not even apologetic. They told me that the trainer was supposed to reach out and they would have her reach out to me. That would have been nice to know that the class was cancelled, I don't think it's too much to send out a simple email or text message. I'm just glad I didn't drive all the way out there to show up to a cancelled class. Well another week goes by and they finally let me know via email that I can sign up for another class or get a refund. I responded to their email asking for specifics regarding the other class that they had available as an option. I did not hear anything back. So another week goes by and at this point I'm not interested in their business so I send them another email asking for a refund for the class. I still have not heard anything back! I had to contact my bank to dispute the charge due to Competition Canine's negligence or just lack of customer service. I just don't understand how they can run a business like this. Not only were they incredibly inconsiderate of my time (if a class is cancelled that's ok, but just let me know), but to withdraw the money from my account and not respond to my inquiries? Seems fraudulent to me...I'd rather go elsewhere where there is real and considerate communication.

Loba has thrived since arriving at Happy Paws due to the personal interaction. It's like her home away from home, and she's friendly with the resident dog Marshmellow. It's been a huge challenge finding a organization that utilizes positive force-free training. There are so many aspects that I love about the staff at Althea Canines! They are compassionate, knowledgeable, and very accessible to their students and pups. Both the staff and canine trainer- Christopher Hayes welcome new students with open arms. I love that Christopher makes training enjoyable and fun! He has a big heart and helps us students feel supported and takes the time to make sure we understand what our pets are trying to communicate so we can have a strong and respectful bond with our animals. Because of PTSD, I often struggle with anxiety, thus making it difficult to concentrate and absorb the material. Chris and the staff make sure that students are comfortable and always open to two-way communication. I can't say enough great things about Althea Canines! There is an array of training program options available depending on student needs, which is quite rare in nonprofit organizations. These folks are absolutely committed and so giving of their time and energy. Kristen helped train my dogs. I have two dogs. One (Sansa) is a pitbull the other (Sadie) is half…read morepitbull. Both are very stubborn, but very smart. She was able to figure out a way to get through to them and help me learn how to manage two different personalities, ages (senior & an 8yr old) with one having limited abilities and the other running/jumping/hyper. Issue 1) walking them.. sadie the eight-year-old was very energetic and wanted to run or walk very fast. She tended to pull a lot. Sansa The senior, 12-year-old girl walked slowly and very close to me to where I would keep tripping over her so I needed her to learn space. Kristen admittedly said this was difficult to have two very differing dogs and one person walking both of them especially since I have physical limitations myself with struggling from fibromyalgia. She set up an appointment for us to go to A walking trail and worked with us on that, and additionally another issue Sadie was having. Issue 2) when I would take Sansa and Sadie for walks on the trails that were busy Sadie would often bark and spin in circles when a bike would ride past us. I wanted help with this behavior. Kristen was able to find a way to help subdue her reaction. Issue 3) One of the people we live with is very obnoxious and the dogs bark at him every time he enters the room. They don't do this with any other person. I asked her to come to my home to evaluate the situation. She nailed it right on the head what the problem was. She spoke with this person to give him insight into how his behavior was affecting the dogs. Her ability to get through to not only the dogs, but people as well is amazing! He actually heard her! He is a very difficult person to talk to so I was impressed! She also helped trained us to not reward them when they barked at him (which I didn't realize I was doing by letting them stay on the couch & petting them.) I thought I was calming them, but she pointed out it's rewarding what they're doing. So now I get them off the couch when they bark & treat them when they don't. This helped quite a bit. Not only is she knowledgeable but she is very upbeat and positive. She is very sweet and takes her time with you and the dogs. I highly recommend her and we would hire her again! Just felt the need to share my experience from 2023/2024…read more Brought my 12 week old puppy for puppy classes and was hopeful to advance into more specific training and she got older. Puppy classes (basically an hour of playtime with other dogs of similar age) are on the main field and they all have a blast running around playing. Being puppies they're learning how to play and at one point my pup played a little too hard and for whatever reason the owner of the facility picked up my pup and dropped her into a troth of water (in my opinion too aggressively) as a punishment which has now left her with a huge fear of water. The trainers never seemed nice to my dog or gave her any attention like the other dogs in the same class. I ended I having to do the course again (had to pay twice) because she wasn't "advancing" quick enough. On-top of the puppy classes I tried the day training to which I found out my dog was put into a kennel for 5+ hours or tied up to a wall most of the time (dropped off at 7a and picked her up around 12:30-1) instead of receiving training or playtime with the other dogs. I will NEVER recommend this facility, they broke my dogs spirit which I've been trying to rebuild for over a year now and she's slowing coming around but anytime we're in the car headed that way she STILL flips out until we pass the exit and knows we're not going back there.

We felt stuck on how to help her. Thankfully, we found Cherie! With her knowledge and understanding, she was able to help us give Rosie the confidence she needed to come alive fully! It's safe to say the Rosie we love at home the world would get to love because of what Cherie helped us learn and how to lead Rosie. Dog training is human training, so get ready to do the work! Currently she is helping me so much with my service dog. He can be quite opinionated and she has helped me motivate him to do what I want. He was having trouble going into the crate and by following Kayla's advice, I now tell him to go and he does. She also really helped me to get him to come when he doesn't want to. I always go to Kayla first when I have a dog training question and she never fails me.
