I left my 6 month old lab with Eden at Sierra dogs for the 4 week board and train. I couldn't have been happier with the training and the love that she provided for Blue. He now has a very solid foundation onto which I can continue to build at home. I was initially considering another training place before I found Sierra dogs. Come to find out, not all trainers are created equal, as they were going to use a shock collar on my puppy. I couldn't even believe it! Eden and her employee Jess use a positive training approach....encouraging good behavior with rewards and praise and discouraging the unwanted behaviors by re-focusing the dog back into a desirable behavior. Because Blue lived with her at her clean, puppy-safe home, she not only taught him the basics but also more advanced training like recall and "leave it". She incorporated day-to-day living into his training, teaching him the skills needed to be a generally well behaved 7 month old puppy that actually respects the other small dogs in our household! Her large fenced property allowed for plenty of appropriate play time and socializing with the other Sierra dogs in her care including her own beautiful huskies...Luna, Vesta and Francis. When it was time for Blue to come home, Eden spent a lot of time going over everything and showing us how to continue on with his training at home. Doesn't get any better. I got a French bulldog puppy and needed some help training him. I sent him to Sierra dogs for a 6 week board and train program and it was the best decision I ever made. Eden promptly responded to my initial email and patiently answered all of my questions. It was hard having him so far away (I am based in Palo Alto), but I would drive twice as far to have Eden take care of my dog. Each day Eden would post a photo on Facebook, so I could watch him grow and she was always available to talk on the phone if I wanted an update. Eden transformed my 3 month old puppy into a well-trained, well-socialized, very happy dog. My puppy knows how to come, sit, stay, leave it, drop it, shake, and walk on a leash. He now comes with me to work and is the best-trained dog in my office. Now that my puppy has graduated from board and train, I look forward to using Sierra Dogs as a boarding place. We used Eden for the first time a couple weeks ago. I weeded through all the various boarding places, and was impressed with what I read about her business. I almost didn't contact her because she is so far away, but she's happy to come to SF and her travel fees are reasonable, especially considering gas prices nowadays. She is responsive (one of the first people to get back to me), professional and great with dogs (Duh. But some walkers/boarders aren't so much.). She also took the time to come to our place to meet our dog first (a free meeting) which was important to us. When we got back after two weeks of vacationing, our dog was waiting for us (you don't have to give keys, but we did). He was not anxious or excited - just, "oh hey, it's you guys. cool. oh look, here's my ducky" To me, that speaks volumes. He was completely himself - happy, playful and relaxed. I know from experience that if you board your dog at a less than stellar place, he's going to come back with "issues" which are not fun to get rid of. Eden even took a bunch of photos of Sam having a good time with other dogs at her place - and who doesn't love photos of their happy pooch?!! Eden is great - try her out and you'll see. read more

Yup. Sierra Dogs is the only place our Milo goes when we have to go out of town. "Camp", we call it. Other dogs go to kennels and a cage, our furry son goes to camp. Eden is the best. Milo has been going since he was six months old, and he always comes back fitter, and better behaved, than when he left. And it makes us feel good to know that he is being so well cared for and is hanging out with buddies. Milo is a bit difficult, with lots of separation anxiety issues, but Eden knows just how to handle it, and we can tell from the photos she posts that he is just fine and is having fun. It is great to know that, much as our hound does not ever want us to go anywhere, that he is having a great experience while we are gone, and we can relax in the knowledge that he is perfectly safe and in the best possible environment, with friends. My wife and I, and our dog Gracie, highly recommend Eden at Sierra Dogs. We have seen multiple trainers with our golden retriever but Eden by far has been the best. Eden is knowledgeable, passionate and truly loves dogs which is why she is so good at training. Recently we had our dog do a train and board session with Eden for a month. Even before we started, Eden came to our house and evaluated Gracie to see what kind of training would work best for our dog. When we picked up Gracie from her stay, Eden had a "train the owner" session for my wife and I with step by step instructions of how we could continue to work with Gracie in our own home. I can not say a single bad thing about Sierra Dogs or it's owner Eden Halbert. They are awesome and amazing! I sent my 7 month old American Bulldog to be trained and boarded, from September 2, 2012 till September 30, 2012, and I now have a lovable well mannered moose (aka Rosie). Rosie has impulse control issues, is stubborn and a typical American bulldog. Eden worked with her every day and now Rosie knows come, sit, stay, leave it, drop, down, and not to jump on people. The difference is amazing and I am so thrilled that I found Sierra Dogs to help me. I spent a day with Eden, being trained as well, and I practice what Rosie and I learned every day, and it is amazing to see the improvements, as Rosie and I bond and learn. I highly recommend Sierra Dogs, whether for Boarding or Board and Training. The dogs all stay inside the house, have a great 3 acre fenced in place to play, get lots of exercise and plenty of love and snuggle time. I have mixed feelings about writing this because the more people who know about how wonderful Eden is, the less likely I am to get a reservation. My husband and I adopted a lab (from Central California Lab Rescue) in April 2009, and when we had to go someplace and couldn't take Moto, I didn't know what to do. I just didn't have the heart to leave him in a kennel. I asked my dog trainer if she knew anyone and that's how I found Eden. We've left Moto with Eden twice now and it's such a relief to know that he's gets the love, attention and care that he gets at home. The fact that Eden loves dogs, is a trainer and knows canine first aid also provides a high degree of confidence that our boy will be well cared for. Moto loves to play with the other dogs, run around her fenced-in property and sleeps inside at night. Eden limits the number of dogs she will board at one time, so that she can focus on the dogs in her care. She also makes sure that all the dogs are current on their vaccinations. I always check in with Eden to see how Moto is doing, and she kindly responds with a text message and/or a picture of Moto. She even posts pictures of the dogs on her Facebook page, so I can see him having a great time. As with the other reviewers, I highly recommend Sierra Dogs when you need to board your dog. read more

Eden is wonderful! I highly recommend her boarding and training services. I work full time and wanted a doodle and didn't have much luck finding a rescue one that was right. So ended up getting a puppy but knew I wouldn't have the optimal time to properly train and socialize it the first few months which are so important, so googled and found several companies but thought Sierra Dogs best fit what I wanted. Eden even spent several phone calls with me pre-puppy talking me through puppy care and house preparations. Eden has a completely positive, no punishment approach to dog training and keeps the dogs in her home with her. They are given lots of love, attention and treated as if they are her own dogs. I can tell how much my dog loves her every time she sees Eden. In addition, my puppy came home well socialized and knew basic commands and hand signals after 5 weeks. My parents have boarded with Eden in the past and she was fine with their dog. I wonder if something happened though, we called a couple times to see if she could board our dog and she never answered the phone or returned the calls. Eden is the very best dog walker/border /trainer on earth. We had a very very very difficult dog. Chaca was a biter ;-( She was loving and kind in many ways -- but then, OUCH! -- She had other major issues, too, as you can imagine. I walked her to a local dog park often and would see Eden with her gaggle of pups. Eden stood out from the other professional dog walkers -- all of whom were obviously quite good at their jobs -- because she was constantly present for each and every one of her charges. Eden forms a special bond with each dog. She did this with Chaca -- in a big way. Eden came to love Chaca as much as we did. She helped us find special resources to deal with Chaca's special needs. She helped me give Chaca medicine when necessary and do other things that Chaca hated. I came to depend on Eden to walk Chaca 5 days a week even when I could have done so myself -- because I knew that this troubled dog got so very much from Eden's (and Luna's -- Eden's amazing canine partner) special care. When Eden left San Francisco for Placerville, she and we all realized that Chaca would not survive without her. Eden adopted Chaca! Chaca's quality of life was enhanced infinitely by this amazing woman with her amazing way of understanding dogs and meeting them 'right where they live' to provide just what they need. The same should be said for Eden's abilities with dog owners ;-) I counsel all who want to assure their dogs a wonderful time while they are away on vacation to board their dogs with Eden. You'll have a worry free vacation knowing your dog is having at least as much fun as you are! If you want a trainer who will bring out the very best in your pooch -- again, I suggest you call Eden. Our family was going to visit a national park and our five month old puppy was not going do much with us. So, after talking to neighbors who LOVED Eden when she lived nearby and who wished she had returned, we figured we would try. It was great. Our puppy made instant friends with Eden's, running and playing in the large yard (way more than she gets a chance to do in SF). She came home in better shape, more energetic, and knowing one command that we hadn't taught her but which Eden used to help manage the dogs. My wife and I found Eden via Yelp (of course) about 6 months ago. We have a 3 year old pug named Stella. She is very near and dear to me and my family, so the notion of leaving her behind with a stranger has been very hard for us, until we met Eden. Eden is a consummate professional who truly loves what she does, which is very important to us. I don't want someone to feel our pug is a burdon. In fact, Stella sleeps in the bed with Eden which means the world to us that Stella feels at home, when away from home. Not only will your dog be well taken care of, they get tons of play time outside in a fenced area, and additional training from Eden (should your dog need some help). We sent our 12 week old Puppy to Eden at Sierra Dogs for 1 full week. We called it "Boot Camp" and boy did it work! Dudley came back with perfect manners. She drilled "Sit, Down, Stay, Touch (aka Come), Take It and Leave It into his head and he has never looked back! She began walking our dog as a young puppy several years ago, and also frequently boarded him in her home while we were on vacation. Eden is wonderful. We highly recommend her and Sierra Dogs. From the very beginning to after Kona (our Bernese Mountain puppy) came home, Eden has been a complete joy to work with. Incredibly thoughtful about what Kona needed, very detail oriented, very knowledgeable, and amazingly thoughtful - Eden has cared so much about our dog's training and wellbeing. After the in-home boarding and training Kona came back sweeter and more attentive. I think there is a real advantage to having puppies like Kona socialize with Eden's dogs. Kona not only learned from Eden's great training, but she also was able to see other dogs in action that have the social skills we wanted Kona to have.
