Fantastic vet office. My dog is especially tough to take to the vet after a traumatizing incident early in his pupperhood. Despite this, these people are just fantastic with him. They are always very patient, understanding and encouraging. Not only that - but they don't try and empty your bank account in your time of need. Some vets will try and sell you on some ridiculously over-priced "plan" before haggling to something more reasonable. Not here. They've diligently worked with me for months on a tricky skin issue which we finally have gotten under control. One time he had gotten bit in his face and there was no way I could bring him into the office without total chaos. They were very creative and drew up a plan with me to sedate him in the car and then take him in. They drained and cleaned his wound. Even with sedation, emergency visit and the special circumstances, I walked away spending a few hundred (versus what I'd expect would be closer to 1k+ elsewhere). Because my pupper is SO difficult at the vet, I've been to *dozens* of vets in EDC and Sacramento county. This is, hands down, one of the best I've visited. Strongly recommend!!! read more

My husband and I are so grateful for this place. We had to say goodbye to our sweet boy last week, and the clinic went above and beyond what we expected. From the moment we took him in for an exam last month, to the time last week when we held him as he was euthanized, they were respectful and kind to a rescue dog who spent much of his life unloved. Then we got a hand written card from the vet, and today we had a special gift in the mail from them to remember him by. The Dr. is nice but the staff take them down to a 1 star on professional behavior. People are bringing in their fur babies to be taken care of, staff should treat us as if they were treating our kids. Staff are a 1 star. Don't go in stressed because you'll leave feeling worse. My 12 year old Rough Collie has been under Dr. Barbara's care for approximately 1 month now. I have to commend Dr Barbara for getting to the crux of my dog's problem (3 different infections) and starting treatment pronto. My dog is feeling much better, thanks to Dr. Barbara. If I had anything negative to say, it would be that she doesn't acknowledge my dog. My dog is very sweet and loving. I will continue to take my dog to her, since she's discovered my dog's problem and is successfully treating it. I couldn't recommend Placerville Vet more. I don't usually leave reviews unless I get above and beyond service and this is what I get here and it's a well earned review!! We have been a part of the Placerville Vet family for a few years now and the staff and Vets are all so kind and amazing with our pets. You can tell that each and every one of them wants to be there and genuinely cares for your animals. We have two dogs and two cats so we've been in quite a bit haha. Just last week we had a big scare with our 3 year old labradoodle. We were out of town and our pet sitters called us and told us they noticed a lump forming on his neck. We got home that night and it had turned into a nasty sore/wound the size of a silver dollar. We called Placerville Vet right before they were going to close and they set us up for the first appointment the next morning. This lump was nasty and we were freaking out if it was a foxtail or snake bite, we had no idea but he was thankfully eating, drinking and acting like himself so we kept an eye on him until then.. we were scared about the vet bill though since it seemed like he would need to be put under, maybe have the wound opened to see if any foreign bodies were in there or needed to drain it, etc. etc. Ok long story short, the vets were amazing and not just care about your pets, but they care about you.. what I thought was going to be a 1k bill ended up being about $180. When the vet called me to tell me what was going on, she said she thought it was a spider bite that got infected and to avoid putting our pup under, they just went slow and took their time shaving around the area and cleaning around the area. They gave him breaks and just took their time. This meant so much because they could have easily said he needed to be put under to do all of this but they knew the cost and the burden to us and wanted to try this first before jumping to what might have been easier for them. It probably doubled or maybe tripled their time taking care of him but that's what they do- they take care of their animals/patients and their families. They also gave us a few options when it came to treatment and helped us come up with the best plan for our pup and it aligned with what we were thinking too. It's been about a week and Ranger is doing SO much better! The plan is working and I am so thankful for all of the vets/techs that helped him. I will just end here to say we have been coming here for years and have only had good experiences with them and I highly recommend Placerville Vet! read more

I moved from Sacramento a year and a half ago and was a little worried about changing from my Sacramento vet who was wonderful. That said, as I had an older dog it seemed prudent to find a closer vet. I tried this office. Everyone has been very caring and helpful. They've gotten my boys in quickly when they needed help. This is the best veterinary clinic I have been to! I had taken my little toy poodle to two other vets before finding this one. The first vet I took him to gave him a vaccine and my pup had a horrible reaction. He loss hair, ears coned up, and was in extreme pain. I was afraid he might die. That vet was very dismissive and acted like I was a nut. I decided to find a different vet. When I found Placerville Vet Clinic, I told them about my concerns and my pups bad reaction. They were caring and discussed precautions that can be taken for future vaccinations. When my puppy got the next dose, they made sure to monitor him afterwards, take precautions beforehand, and even called me later that day to check in on him. They have always taken the time to call me back with any questions or concerns I have and are extremely compassionate and professional. So glad I found them. read more

I do not recommend taking your pets here. I brought my dog here for the first time over a year ago because she had been acting sick. The vet took x-rays and determined there was a foreign object lodged in her stomach and intestines. It was described as "long, skinny and rope-like". I was told that emergency surgery was required immediately or my dog could die. I was given NO other alternative options. (Although now I know there were many other things that could have been done). At such alarming news I took my dog in for surgery (she is a Great Dane and a surgery of this magnitude is certainly life threatening), and the surgeon found nothing inside her. The surgeon was shocked as was I, for obvious reasons. When I reached out to Placerville veterinary clinic the next morning, although her kind front desk staff agreed with me, Dr Carmody refused to take any responsibility for the error and told me that this happens quite often. I would be ashamed of my practice if this error was happening regularly under my care, but she didn't seem to be. When I asked for her to help with the financial burden that I had incurred due to her error, she refused. And then when I advised her that I would continue to follow up on the matter, she sent a letter to my home firing me as a client stating that I was "threatening" her (as though I would EVER put an animal under her care again). She added insult to injury over and over in this matter and treated my thousands of dollars in fees as though they were chump change. She was condescending and rude throughout the entire ordeal and treated me as inferior. She used manipulation and fear tactics to try to intimidate me and I've never been treated so poorly by a business owner. I've never had a dispute like this before and I have to leave this review as a warning to potential customers. She will undoubtedly try to dispute this review as she won in a small claims court case against me. However, nothing that was decided in that case has anything to do with how she treated me as a human being and the scars left on my dogs body. If you're looking for a vet with decency, morals and human kindness, look elsewhere. read more

Wow your case manager responds to my honest complaint in my review, about your price gouging, with lies, trying to say that I was aware of their price for a major dental surgery, teeth removal, and had been given a quote to the nearly $1,500 charge and that I agreed to it. That is totally inaccurate. I would never agree to that for a 12 year old dog, that doesn't belong to me. It might have been what you wanted to do to the dog. And what you wanted to charge me; but, the only thing I ever agreed to and made the appointment for, was a dental cleaning. You've lost my business. read more

What initially drew me to this Vet practice was in the service section it offered Pallative care and Hospice care. I see that has since been removed. it appears the staff cannot handle the needs required for these patients. Dr. Corder was extremely nice and efficient when my beloved German Shepherd Libby was diagnosed with bone cancer last July. She took care of my Libby for the 7 months she was with me until it was time for her to join her sister Abby. The one time Dr. Corder was unavailable, my Libby saw a Dr.Otrubova who had about as much compassion as a doorknob... She stated "Libby is complicated" and literally ran from the room....Now what kind of vet is that? One who is not comfortable treating any pets that require more care involved. That Vet should never have become a vet if she isn't willing to treat all pets equally. I had called today 2/9/22 to make an appointment for one of my other dogs and was told by Leslie who was extremely rude that Placerville Vet was not accepting new clients... I said that Libby had been there last month, however I was shocked when she very rudely stated "we don't want you as a client" I was always nice to the staff, and it seems they would take my money for Libby for over 6 months at over $300.00 each time, not to mention medication each month and then when I take her there for euthanasia, they took my money as well and then say that i'm no longer welcome as a client. Imagine my surprise when i looked on their website this evening to verify a few things and it said New Clients Welcome. So Leslie lied through her teeth...God only knows what else these people are lying about. I would seriously rethink taking your beloved pets here. The only compassionate, caring ones there were Dr. Corder and Ysabel. In Placerville Vet Clinic's Mission Statement they are Professional and courteous....and treat your pets with kindness and consideration.... Leslie was anything but professional and courteous- she was just plain rude; Dr. Otrubova was anything but professional when she stated my Libby " was complicated" and ran out of the room. Neither one of them showed kindess or consideration for my dying dog. It also makes me question whether my beloved Libby's ashes are really in that box that was returned to me.. read more

So thankful for placerville vet staff Donna stayed on the phone with me while my dog was having her first seizure. She was calm and compassionate with me. There's also Leanne who is very professional and clear with me on what can and can't be done. Dr. Barbara is so special to me. I can't say enough about this facility. From start to finish I felt like my two cats were treated with the best of care. I initially made appointments for them to get neutered and in the time I made the appts to the surgery day, one of my cats had injured its leg. The staff and dr were so good and evaluated the situation and were able to fix his leg same appt. I am sure this is not always the case but the fact that they even offered to help and not turn me away for additional appoints almost made me cry. They truly have the pets best interests at heart. The follow up appt was so great too, with the dr even explaining the healing process in more detail so I wouldn't worry about the time it takes for the cat to be back to normal. They are quick and efficient and don't try to sell you on unnecessary services or products. The facility isn't new and fancy which I personally feel is why they are able to keep costs reasonable. (spay and neuters are a fraction of what it costs at other places which I know because my other cat was spayed at another facility in Folsom 2 weeks prior for triple the price and it was a horrible experience prompting me to come here) It has that small town family vibe and for the first time in many years, my experience was so amazing it prompted me to actually leave a review! read more

This is an excellent clinic. I've had a downpour of pet health issues recently, they've seen three dogs for me in the past two months. They handled an ear infection, bone cancer, and a worm in the eye for me. Each visit, they have been helpful, friendly, and compassionate. My cat Shredder, 11, had to go to that place in Rancho, VTR, VCM, whatever, July 3 as he had blocked pipes. They cleared the blockage, but wanted to do a surgery (technical name escapes me) wherein they remove his penis so he can pass stones easier. They wanted 2500. We brought him home on the 5th, but on the 8th he started leaking so back to my vet, who could not see him on the 3rd as it was already late in the day and they were closing for the long weekend. On the 9th he had that awful operation (for about 1000), but he's back home now, and not leaking, and not plugged. Dr. Parsons did a wonderful job on Shredder. My brother is now bringing him in twice a day so they can give him his antibiotic pills. I'm sure you've seen the email describing how to give a pill to a cat. That's Shredder. They aren't charging for this service which is cool. When my cat Binkley was mauled by our neighbor's dog on my 40th birthday, they detached him from all of his tubes and such and gently put him in my lap (I was on a chair with wheels) and they pushed us into a quiet room where I could say goodbye. We took our dog (Scout) there when she appeared to be lethargic. They did a blood draw and discovered that she was seriously ill. They contacted an animal hospital in Sacramento and arranged an emergency appointment. We took our dog there and they treated her. Once we could pick her up, Placerville Veterinary Clinic (PVC) provided follow-up treatment. During the entire process, PVC provided us outstanding service and compassionate care. In the end, our dog had a blood disease which could not be treated, and we had to have her put to sleep. But throughout the entire process I felt that they provided me with excellent service and compassionate care. The advice we received from them was based on their knowledge and the research they did on treating her illness. They gave us the information we needed to make the best decisions possible during this difficult time. I have a second dog, which I still take there, and am confident in the care he is receiving. I would definitely recommend their services to others. read more

Make sure and never have a life threatening emergency between noon and 2 as I was told as I'm watching my dog desperately trying to stand as she struggled to breathe and the vets were at lunch. They are not on call for emergencies??? I was told to drive 45 minutes to Sacramento as God forbid I disturb their lunch. Then I frantically ask for that vet phone number and she didn't even have it ready. I would steer away from them if they can't be bothered to save a life between noon and 2pm. This place is not run well if this is their policy on emergencies in the middle of a weekday. They do have TWO vets so no one can help???? I'm so sad to have to find a new vet that will allow me to come during business hours and ask them to save a life and put down their sandwich. read more

I accidentally received a memorial pawprint from this clinic for a person who used to live at my house. Clearly they front desk staff is not verifying addresses of their clients. When I went out of my way to return the pawprint to the front desk, I walked in and was completely ignored by the 2 receptionist sitting up front. No acknowledgement or smile whatsoever. I had to walk up to the front counter and directly confront them to get any response. I can't rate the care, but the front desk staff needs some training on customer service! read more

The office smells like it hasn't been cleaned in a long time. I understand it's going to smell like pets, however in all the vets I've been they have never smelled as bad as this place. The shelves behind the counter have so much dust on it and the upper corners of the ceilings have spider webs. I wouldn't bring my pets here. The only reason I went was to pick up a friend's dog. When our dog was just a puppy and we didn't have a vet yet he got into some lawn food and seed. I called one place and there wasn't a vet on duty, so I called Placerville Vet Clinic next. They were so amazing! They took time right then to look up the active ingredients and how dangerous it was. Luckily, everything was fine. I was so impressed they would take so much time out of their day for someone who wasn't even their patient rather than just telling me to bring him in (and charging the office fee). Yes, I have found that the staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. This puts both myself, my husband and our little kitty (Coco) at ease each time we go in there. Coco was just recently spayed and is recovering quickly. Dr.Heather Carmody is awesome!!!! I have been going to this office, at this location, since I was 16 years old and Jon Vilhauer took over from Dr. Rambichek. He was mean. Dr. Rambichek, not Jon. Jon was a Godsend. I have seen so many changes through the years, doctors, office staff, changes in my life, their lives. Even though it is not convenient for me because of the commute, I will continue to take my fur kids to them because I trust them to tell me the truth and I honor their advice as to how to proceed. I took my dog here and the vet told me that I should euthanize her because she was hopeless & she likely had cancer. My dog was 10 years old but, I took her to another hospital & and it turned out that she had a severe infection in her liver, a couple days in the hospital & she come home 100 percent. You get what you pay for at this clinic, sure they seem to be capable of vaccination, but if there is actually something wrong with your pet they tell you to euthanize it. read more
