Unfortunately yesterday everything was going fine until he had a bowel movement, shortly after he started to whine, cry and show signs of severe uncomfortableness, lethargy, it was gut wrenching to see this tiny helpless thing I already love so much be so uncomfortable. I called the vet we are meant to see and they could not fit us in but recommended veterinary urgent care and Surgery in Cameron Park. I immediately just started driving there scared for my puppies well-being. While driving I called and they were able to get me an appointment right away, basically the time it took for me to drive there. They tested us from the car for parvo (thank god is was negative) so we were brought into a room. The vet tech was extremely nice, thorough, endearing, empathetic (as I was a blubbering mess worried about my tiny 4lbs puppy) she got her report ready and brought the dr in. He was even kind and empathetic to my worry and concern. We went over everything. From the day I got him to what possibilities it could be. They gave me options, information and we picked a treatment plan after an exam of my puppy. I was sent home with medications, directions and feeling so much relief that they cared for my dogs wellbeing and how I felt as an owner. Upon leaving and check out and the girls at the front came together to chat with us, and say goodbye. We talked a little about how cute he is his breed type and then reassured us to call if we need anything or have any questions. I will absolutely be a returning customer should an emergency come up again. Completely unrelated but when I went to grab my dog from the techs arms after they took him in back to give him a couple shots I could smell her subtle perfume(it smelt amazing) as we had to be shoulder to shoulder. I politely asked her what it was and she told me. Not vet related but something small / important to me. This small kind interactions made me feel like a real person to them instead of a ticket number.

I have shown up at their door before they even open more times than I'd like to admit. One time being when my dog's face was incredibly swollen out of the blue, and in extreme pain with what I thought was a bug bite but was a rattlesnake bite. Dr. K immediately stepped in preformed lifesaving treatment on my dog. Another time my puppy came down with pneumonia, Dr. K took her age into consideration when coming up with a treatment plan, just didn't throw random antibiotics at her and hope for the best, but took into consideration how they might affect her growth long term. She recovered beautifully. When one of my dogs went in for a surgery and was having a difficult time in recovery, Dr. K, reached out and said "I need you back here to sit with him, he's a bit stressed"...that's not normal protocol! Dr K, cares deeply for the animals he treats, they're just not another animal to him. And it shows every time I'm there. While some may say their prices are expensive, please remember that you get what you pay for, when it comes to expertise and care. Your loved one is the best hands, and they have proven that to me time and time again.

At the end of 2024, our dogs' teeth were cleaned by their vet. Because our small dogs were 16,…read morethey had blood work done before going under anaesthesia. The blood work showed our dogs were in good health. However, their kidneys were right under the line for needing a special diet or meds. We were told to keep an eye out for any changes. In January 2025, we moved from Scottadale to Cameron Park. In March, we noticed our eldest dog, Otis, had a corneal ulcer (1). Later, I learned ulcers can be a sign of kidney failure. We went to nearby Airport Pet Clinic (APC) for treatment. We purchased the medication for healing. Since there would be follow-up care, we bought their annual Pet Plan to cover those future visits. At his follow-ups: 2) I said Otis would sometimes stare off into space or stumble about as if drunk. I was told this was dementia. Later, I learned this type of confusion can be a sign of kidney failure. 3) I mentioned twitching and weakness in his back legs when standing. I was told this was arthritis. Later, I learned muscle changes in the legs can be a sign of kidney failure. 4) I was asked about his potty routine. I was not asked the color of his stools. Later, I learned his black, tarry stools can be a sign of kidney failure. 5) I was asked about his drinking. I said he drank a TON as I was often refilling his bowl. Later, I learned drinking a lot of water can be a sign of kidney failure. 6) I was asked about his eating. Otis liked to eat his meals at 6 AM and 6 PM. But his drooling meant I had to wipe his face after. Later, I learned drooling can be a sign of kidney failure. 7) I was asked about his sleeping. Otis slept all night but slept more and more all day waking up only at meal times. Later, I learned increased sleep can be a sign of kidney failure. In March 2026, our annual Pet Plan at Airport Clinic was ending. I scheduled a final check-up for the dogs. Despite all the signs, no mention was made that Otis could be in end stage renal disease (ESRD). Instead, the vet focused on Otis's younger brother, Fen. He had 4 prescriptions for Vetmedin left and then he'd need a renewal. Fen has a heart murmur and without this medication, he could die. The vet wanted a $1,000 worth of blood tests, x-rays, and a cardiologist review to renew the prescription. I offered to pay $250 a month over 4 months so everything was paid off by the time Fen needed the renewal. This plan was refused. In April 2026, I took my dogs to Goldorado Animal Hospital. I had Fen examined first and we worked out a plan for his renewal when his original prescription ends. Otis's exam was scheduled for 9 AM Tuesday, April 22. Regrettably, Otis became ill after midnight on Monday, April 21. At his appointment, his kidneys were failing so I had to make the worst decision a pet parent has to make. Otis passed away, his ashes are with us, we are comforting his little brother, and our whole family misses him. First, I am upset that his signs were missed during his annual care at Airport Pet Clinic. Second, Otis needlessly suffered because he wasn't properly diagnosed. Third, measures weren't taken to delay the end stage or ease symptoms or reduce pain. Please, APC, take more care spotting signs of kidney failure in geriatric dogs. It hurts me so much to think my sweet boy was suffering unnecessarily the last year of his life. No one deserves that.

My cat got attacked by a bobcat and lived... crawled his way up to our shed where he was found. His leg was SEVERELY wounded. My husband brought him in since it was the only place open and I wasn't happy that he had to go there... if you don't know, google this doctor! I don't care what other people say, our experience was horrible! Dr Bader is who saw my cat. He checked his leg and said they would clean it up and wrap it and we had to go in every week for rewraps. He didn't give my husband a cone or offer any other options. Just gave him antibiotics... that was over $940! Well at the next wrap, same thing but no charge. Against my better judgement, I took him to the third wrap. I asked to see the photos from his first visit. No photos were taken. Why were no baseline photos taken to see progression or regression? They had to sedate him for the wrap. When I asked to watch them wrap it so I could continue to do it on my own, AND I wanted to see the wound, they denied me to go back and see it. When I pitched a fit about it they finally let me back. They said it was extremely infected and looked worse than when he first came in. I said "Why wasn't he given one a cone, please give us a cone this time" they did. So aside from the vet tech who gave him an excellent wrap job, that visit was over $700! Astronomical IMO. We were already $1500 deep with just antibiotics and wraps! Regarding no other options given comments earlier, they should have offered 3 things based on how horrible this wound was: 1.amputation, 2. Skin graft, or 3. Euthanasia. That's it. That's how horrible this is. I decided to contact a friend that manages a vet office and decided to go there (we didn't have that option when we found him). His care has been so much better, they never needed to sedate him, and now he is set for surgery to remove his leg this week. A picture says a 1000 words right? Then let me share his photos. This man should never touch or be allowed to care for animals. Go look him up. I promise you, this place is extremely bad news! Thank God my boy is still alive and I have found a much better vet group to take him to. If you go see Dr Bader, you've been warned.
