As much as I love petco... I was very sad with how they deal with customer service. I booked a grooming for my maltipoo, and as were walking into the store for our 3:00 grooming appointment, they had called me at 2:52 and cancelled our appointment since she was "overbooked". There was no apology, no compensation, nothing. She said "I've been working on dogs all day." Didn't really have much sympathy since she cancelled 8 minutes before our appointment and did not one thing to make up for it. As I have worked in customer service, you learn that you will do anything to make the customer happy, it doesn't matter what or how u feel, you just have to make it right for the customer (however that looks). Just unfortunate because I've never had a bad experience with petco until today. read more

Scheduled a grooming appointment and came in with the rabies vaccination record. They didn't check in because they need a different format for the vaccination. The vet's note clearly mentioned all the vaccinations my pet has had including rabies 3 yr vaccine. I am waiting on the email from the vet for the vaccination format they need, they say they have to reschedule my appointment as it's been 15 minutes past the scheduled time. That's so pathetic. This is not the customer service one would expect when you are bringing everything, doing a pre check in online and reaching on time for the appointment. This is the worst experience ever. On top of this, they put in a statement on my Petco account that I can't schedule an appointment online as my dog is sensitive to grooming. This is just not true as they didn't even take my dog in. In fact, I find this super Insensitive and rude. read more

I walk into this Petco around 7:00pm or just thereafter. Grab what I need and proceed to the checkout counter where the female cashier is helping a customer. I'm the only person in line and I overhear there is some sort of problem with an account or setting up an account. This continues for five minutes meanwhile the cashier never bothers to acknowledge let alone look at me (Sorry for the wait, I'll be just a minute, etc.) or call for assistance from another employee (Which there visibly was). Another five minutes go by (Still not acknowledged) so I return my items within the store and walk out. Been a customer for over eight years, but no more. read more

My dogs with luxated patellas have been served by Krystal at PetCo Grooming Folsom for over 2 years. The groomer was lovely and never had an issue with my older pup needing to sit down on occasion during her service. She was an abused and traumatized dog, and Krystal built a relationship with her. Today, I took her to her grooming appointment and the new manager stated she is not allowed to be groomed at PetCo anymore because of her luxated patellas. Krystal had called in sick, I was NOT notified, so I went in for the grooming and this new manager who was rude from the outset refused to allow my dog to be groomed. Ever. Because she has a common knee disorder found in small dogs. The store manager then tells me there has just been no manager in the Grooming department for over a year (!), and that they "just weren't following the policies in the past, but now we are." So because of their two year long error, my senior dog now needs to establish a relationship with a brand new groomer all over again. One that accepts her despite luxated patellas and doesn't mind if she has to sit down on occasion during her groom. Poor management leads to poor pet care, and this is exactly what occurred. No This care for the dog's needs at all. I have cancelled my Premiere membership with PetCo because of the rude carelessness of this store's management. I refuse to financially support an organization with such poor leadership. read more

I have a small 20lb chihuahua terrier mix. He has been known to bite when he's really afraid of something as all dogs can do. It's really that he was abused and my wife and I rescued him. For three years I've worked with him to avoid any biting in the future. I made it known to the Petco employee "Krystal" at the Folsom location in California. Real quick I was warned not to take Sammie(my pup) to Petco by a friend. She said they were unprofessional. Well I should have listened. First off no one notified my wife or myself that they don't even ATTEMPT to groom dogs that may bite. I say "may" because it's unlikely Sammie would actually bite someone. Especially after all the training I've taken him through. At least tell people that you don't take dogs that exhibit anxiety or aggression. I drove all the way down there and waited just for "Krystal" to tell me with a super shitty attitude that they don't groom dogs that may bite. i asked them if they had a muzzle and she said no. In Petco they don't have muzzles? That's news to me! I even offered to muzzle him myself and she said no. I wouldn't have had as big an issue if "Krystal" wasn't as rude as she was. She made it seem as if I did something wrong by notifying her my dog has anxiety. We rescued Sammie from a horrible situation so I will not be shamed. I have done my best to get Sammie where he is. If you don't want to get bit maybe you should work at McDonalds. I warn you though "Krystal", the grills are hot. You may get burned but that's just part of the job. In every occupation there can be a threat or incident that can occur. I am convinced that the people Petco hires are there for a paycheck and that's it. At least this "Krystal" is. She didn't seem too interested in doing her job anyway. My thoughts are she is just a lazy, entitled, arrogant, good for nothing employee who can be easily replaced. And she will be someday because people like her don't last. Again this is not about Petco's policy so much as it is how they go about enforcing it. In the end I wasted time and gas for nothing. And for the people who will say just go to the vet....... I don't always have $300+ on hand to do that. Petco was $31 before taxes. I guess you get what you pay for. Avoid Petco like the plague. They don't care about your animals. read more

Just picked up my dog from his first grooming visit at this place....results are very mediocre...doesn't look terrible as it doesn't seem like much fur was even cut...but he definitely doesn't look like he just left a professional grooming salon. Made an appointment several days in advance for 10:30am when I got there I was told to wait...ended up being almost 15 minutes to get checked in...seemed overbooked or something. Like I said the result wasn't worth the $44,which is very close to the same price at other local shops with much better service and results. Wouldn't be so bad if they charged lower prices like beauty schools do with people since it definitely seems like the groomers in there are still learning. Also, not very even. read more

Unfortunately, this Petco falls short. I was hopeful when I walked in because it's clean and organized, but I was disappointed in the end. I took my dog here for a bath and nail trim and they missed a whole paw. Even though I was bummed, I understand mistakes happen. As I went up to the register to pay, I was greeted by a very unfriendly girl. She was extremely rude and short with me. Also kind of weird that a bath and nail cut is 35 dollars in total. Puppy Training class experience: Unfortunately things did not go well and the Petco customer rep stated he could not give me the manager's contact info, so I am writing this in hopes they will read this. To start, I had great experiences in the past with Petco puppy training classes, so that is why I chose them again for our new puppies. We noticed right away that the other attendees were not a good fit and needed more specialized behavioral training, as they barked loudly and constantly the entire two classes that we attended; lunging, etc. This made it so our trainer, Ethan, ignored us much of the time and focused on them. The other puppies' parents were also not very attentive and actually let go of the leash at one point, so their dog was able to approach us uncontrolled. The most important thing to note is the unprofessionalism of the trainer, Ethan. He was already not the best teacher and it was quite obvious he had not structured the class, just winging it as he went. The second class we were told to practice walking around the store, which we ended up doing for the majority of the class. We felt neglected and that we wasted our money. He also communicated to us with a sneer that his manager (who walked by at one point and asked if we were okay) had said that the attendees were not the best fit and they should be broken up into different classes. The trainer stated he didn't agree and he saw it as a challenge for himself. The most alarming thing the trainer stated was at the end of class two, after one "puppy play time" was cut short because the other dog attacked ours and we were told to wander the store. The trainer said "If my manager is not around, I'd like to try them again off leash." I said absolutely not, I am not comfortable with that. He disagreed with me and begrudgingly finished the class. Needless to say, not only am I disappointed in this class, but also fearful that this trainer will create further unsafe situations and directly defy his manager. I am hoping for either a full refund or a change of trainers, as I am sure most are better than this. read more

I am a little perplexed by some of the poor ratings here. I have been coming here regularly for a year. It is a nice clean store, with a good selection of pet food and accessories for my cat. Staff is friendly and nice. Sometimes they are out of the flavor of Natural Balance my cat likes, but that happens, not such a big deal. I absolutely love this store. It's always well-stocked and the staff are just very attentive and helpful. But most of all, their grooming service is EXCELLENT. Our groomer, Mandy (or Amanda L as she is professionally referred to) is just the BEST. She always does an exceptional job with our little Havanese and Poodle mix. Booked an appointment for my puppies (2 cane corsos) to get groomed. Jokers appointment was at 1:45, Harley at 2:45. Ran late for Jokers appointment was told to reschedule which is fine (we arrived at 2pm) but then I was told by Krystal that not even my 2:45 appointment will be happening because apparently both dogs had to check in at 1:45pm. Why tho, when my second appointment is not until 2:45 nor does it say anywhere I have to be there 1 hour early. Turns out she booked another dog for the same time (so she said), asked for the manager who then came in and told me they actually had another dog that they are working on and that would take a longer time however she would take my Harley in at 2:45 as scheduled. Petco just lost a customer, not to mention the grooming salon is disgusting with hair everywhere (and I mean everywhere, walls, ceiling, front desk). While I've been a regular customer at Petco's closest large chain competitor for some time, I'd stopped at this location a few times, simply for convenience. I'm now a regular to this Petco after a few unfortunate experiences with their major competitor at a few locations. My experience here has been consistently good customer service. Our choice of dog food brand is here. Price isn't necessarily a primary factor for me but in this case, I've found Petco to be slightly cheaper. This store has been in this location for a while and hasn't been particularly busy on my visits. read more

I made an appointment online for my dog and miss read the date, which is my error, but when I showed up thinking it was appointment the lady acted as if I'm a bother, annoying and unwilling to help accommodate or understand. I get the "welp" we don't have anything available until next month... I tried to set up an appointment for a nail trim but I get the nope, nothing available except mid day in two weeks. Ok, I've had some bad experiences with Petco's before. I understand it might not be the funnest job in the world, but for the most part their employees are far from friendly and helpful, and their prices are ungodly. I'm happy to report, however, that my experience at this petco today was far from that. I caught a tree frog in my backyard and wanted to keep him, but I had no idea what sort of stuff I needed so that he wouldn't.... ya know, die. I wish I could remember her name, but there was a blonde girl there that was more then happy to help me pick out a nice home, food, and "furnishings", she explained EVERYTHING to me about frog care and she was actually excited to share her knowledge with me. They didn't have the right top for the cheaper terrarium I was looking to buy, so she gave me the bigger and more expensive one at the same price, Awesome! My little frog dude (I named him Alberto) will be happy for a long time to come! (hopefully) read more

I would NOT recommend going here unless you are looking to spend all day running in circles. The front counter people look and treat you as though you should know what you are doing, and when asked questions, responds with a 'not my job' attitude. The grooming department will not answer your phone calls for inquiries and will send you away without any recommendation or help. This store has always been nothing but a great experience. As a pet owner and animal lover I come here a lot. I get a ton of great coupons through the pet pals reward. And I mean big discounts. The staff has always been super helpful with any questions or needs and any time I have needed to return or exchange anything it has been no problem at all. There are two petsmarts in the area and they are more expensive and less helpful I personally feel, And they did a horrible job with grooming. Been taking our small dog here for grooming for YEARS with no incident. On our last visit (and after I tipped the groomer), she informed me they "would no longer be taking our dog because she was too old, and she had to ask another person to help her hold our small dog's hind legs up when she was in the bathtub". That was cold. Grooming costs $65 (no major hair cutting involved, just a bath, 'sani' cut, and then they stick her in the drying box) not including the tip. Why don't they just have an upcharge because an old small dog needs the assistance of a second groomer for ten minutes? Well, it worked out. We were referred by a friend to the Pampered Pooch in Folsom and have been absolutely delighted with the very caring couple who own and operate it. read more

Came here today to buy a couple of things. I walked in the door and there was a cashier and two employees standing around talking at the register. Not one person acknowledged me when I walked in, or asked if I needed any help. I passed another employee same thing not a word. I grabbed a large bag of cat food, small bag of bunny food, and a small 8 pack case of wet food. I did not get a bag for any of my items and had to carry each one. I stopped in after work to pick up dog food for my dachshund. There were several employees in the front. No one addressed me until I got to the back of the store and it seemed to be by chance as it appeared this employee may have been coming back from a break. When I got to the front the cashier, I think her name was Caitlin, said nothing to me and began to process my purchase. There was no "Did you find everything ok?" Or "How are you today?" With a new puppy, we had to start from scratch. I shopped around and Petco consistently had the best selection (for example, they had several choices for every item I was looking for....vs. the competitor that only had maybe 2 choices that were either their brand or Martha Stewart!?!). Love Petco for the variety, organization of the store, and competitive prices. It's actually fun to shop here and browse around. They had every item that our breeder recommended (from food brand/type to shampoo). They even beat Amazon's prices on several items. I am now a loyal Petco shopper! read more

I took our beloved pug here to be groomed for many years. They always did such a fantastic job and made me feel at ease leaving her there. After leaving her at Beckys one time (never again) I would recommend this place for everybody looking to get their pet groomed. WORST experience! We bought a new dog bed for our old dog to be comfortable in his last few weeks. We ended up not using the dog bed, no paw was ever set in it... our sweet sweet dog passed away and we decided it was time to take the bed back. We tried to take the bed back, with receipt (granted after the 30 day timeframe allowed) and they said the best they could do was give us store credit. We explained the situation and said that the store credit would do us no good because we no longer have a pet. They repeated over and over that it was just store policy and they couldn't do anything about it.
