Not pleased with the grooming center at all. I left my dog at 10:30 and after not hearing anything for 3 hours I come back to find out that he has sat in the back drying for the entire time and they have taken care of countless other dogs before even completely grooming my dog. I wouldn't have had a problem if it weren't for me asking the lady to call if there were any problems with him not liking the experience and got nothing. read more

Other than the fact that they're a pet center that's in a convenient isn't place (aka near an HEB) I wouldn't go there. I was a new pet owner (a hedgehog) a while back, and I was curious as to how to take care of her. Since she was a hand me down from a friend I was told specifically things about bedding and how particular these pets can be. Anyway, I was asking a staff member when another come came by. Most of their junior staff are very nice, if I were to rate them it would be a 4.5. They worked really hard to try to help me, but I was confused by the directions I was given and what they were suggesting since they were go ogling the answers. Then the manager or something pops by and I ask him the same question that puzzling the group of us. And he just goes to offer the most expensive item they have without even listening to what I said, since my hedgehog is unable to use that bedding. And I repeated my concerns to him again, and he merely offered me the same thing, proceeded to brush me off and said maybe I should go to PetSmart because obviously I don't deserve to shop there. It was incredibly rude, and I absolutely refuse to speak to the man again. If I didn't desperately need kitty litter, I wouldn't ever go there again just to avoid that store manager. However, I will say their part time staff are nice. At least the ones I met genuinely want to help you. That manager on the other hand is a disgrace to the store. read more

This place has really gone downhill. Walked in at 6:00 on a week night to grab a heavy bag of dog food. Not a single cart available anywhere in the store. Had the bag of food sample with me to show somebody, but there was no customer service anywhere to be found. There was one employee checking out a long line of dejected looking shoppers tapping their feet. And the floors were covered in dirt and debris. For some reason somebody decided to stock live crickets immediately next to the checkout. And while we all waited in line for the single cashier to work through everybody, you could just hear these feed crickets. It was comically bad. This location needs a new manager. read more

Today I took my dog in for a shampoo and nail trim. They weren't open yet as I got there 30 minutes early. Brandie opened the store and invited us to come in out of the rain and cold. She was very patient with Chip and explained all the services to me. This was my second time taking my dog in but it had been a while. She explained everything that she was going to provide that was included in the package I requested. Chip smelled so good and his nails were trimmed nice and neat when I picked him up. Also, I had to run an errand before getting him and called to let Brandie know. She was very happy and okay with keeping Chip there for a little longer for me. Brandie went above and beyond her call of duty taking care of my Chip Chip and offered outstanding customer service this morning. I will continue to take Chip to her for his shampoo and nail trimming. read more

I had a 10:30am grooming appointment for my dog that was made weeks ago. I show up and the grooming room is pitch black, I wait 15 minutes & finally ask the guy working at the cash register when the groomer will be here. He told me that the groomer called in sick. I get that people get sick, but It would have been nice to have gotten a call from Petco letting me know in advance so that I didn't drive 20 minutes out of my way only to be told to go back home. Never taking my dog here again, the customer service is awful. read more

I really don't like that this is conveniently located right next to HEB. I have walked into this store multiple times to pick something up and before checking out realized that the items were overpriced. The selection also isn't the best and you're better off driving a few blocks up the rode to another pet store. I have also had terrible customer service at this location. The employees seem to run away from you or if you find someone they tell you to look over there and point in a general area. read more

I do not enjoy going to this Petco, and the only reason I do is because it is very close to where I live. Their items are usually more overprice than what you can get at HEB or Walmart. However I do come here for their compressed rawhide bones. The only problem is that they never seen to have them in stock or just a limited amount. Also it such a hassle some days to find someone to help you out. However my weiner doggie sure gets excited whenever he comes in and some times at the register they'll give him a treat to go. read more

NEVER MIND. Unfortunately, I have to retract every single star form Petco. Despite my taking my four dogs for the last FOUR YEARS to Petco, for some reason, Brandi decided today she "wasn't comfortable" grooming my Bedlington Terrior (this is important:) because of her discolored bottom. This is so absurdly ridiculous for several reasons: A. Bedlingtons have a protein in their saliva, discoloring anything they lick, including mouths, paws, and bottom. Her bottom is ALWAYS rust-colored, like her mouth and paws. Always. B. Stella just had an extensive yearly vet visit yesterday, got blood work, full examination, and complete bill of health (which I presented to Brandi). C. Brandi had just told me that her other groomer CALLED IN SICK today, so she was "really swamped." ... I insisted Stella has always been this color, always groomed. So Brandi called "Grant," who examined my dog and said she was fine, fine to groom. Brandi STILL said she "wasn't comfortable." This is after she came in from a smoke break, standing outside chatting with her friends. I totally GIVE UP. They have lost my business permanently for all 4 dogs. I'm sorry that Brandi was short-handed form someone calling in sick, but to claim a ridiculous reason like a "discolored bottom" to get out of grooming my dog - who has never changed and always that color for the last 4 years - is absolutely unacceptable. All it would have taken was a phone call, telling me she is short-handed and we need to reschedule. The whole situation is absurd. Petco should be ashamed. And so should Brandi. You've been warned. read more

I went here to get my dog groomed because the price was reasonable. That was a huge mistake. Not only did I pay almost 60 dollars for the groom, I got almost nothing for that price. My dog got his nails clipped and they shaved him. That's it. I assumed that an anal gland expression would be part of the package but that was not so. His face was not touched AT ALL. All the hair was still frayed like it was uncut and you could tell it was the same length it was when I brought him in because after getting shaved his head and tail looked extremely disproportionate. I ended up bringing him home and trimming his face myself, along with his ears and tail. On top of this I felt very uneasy about leaving him there because of the disgruntled demeanor of the groomer. When I picked him up he was much more skittish than normal (more so than a vet visit) and did not want to play or be near humans other than myself for the rest of the day. I am not usually one to write a review but I felt it was absolutely necessary to help another person possibly avoid my (and my dog's) experience. I will gladly shell out the extra cash for grooming if this is the alternative. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. read more

I just adopted a cat, and before doing so, visited this location several times over the past couple of months to look at kittens and check out things to buy. Every time I've gone there, the store was completely devoid of employees, and you have to search the entire store before you can find someone who may or may not be able (or willing!) to help you. I think one of the worst experiences with their team came when I was buying some items and had a question about some of them. I tried to ask an associate for help, an older lady who might be a little hard of hearing, but is probably just a rude, inconsiderate person. I called out to her several times, even walking behind her as she continued to ignore me. I stopped trying when she hurriedly shuffled to a room behind the aquariums. She knew that I needed help, and put up a Herculean effort to avoid providing it. That's the kind of service you can expect here, I guess. My roommate and I visited earlier today, to pick up some things, and again, had a hard time finding someone who would help us out. We made the mistake of approaching a brand rep who couldn't be more pleased to not help us, and then spent the next ten minutes trying to find someone who actually worked at Petco and could help us out. Fortunately, we did come across a couple of friendly associates who offered dog food samples and made great recommendations, but this was after we spent nearly twenty minutes on a trip that should have lasted for less than half that time. I'm not totally opposed to spending money here when pressed for time, and would recommend it to anyone who has a pet and needs things you're not likely to find at H-E-B, Target, or Walmart, but I would caution against going in with expectations. I've taken my Rottweiler in here every month for the Mini Make-rover for several years. I love my dog more than most of my family members. The staff are always timely, friendly, knowledgeable and remember us. Don't usually like to give bad, but that's Day our dog had an appointment to get groom today we call to let them know we were running 10 min. late because of a personal business. The person who answer the phone said that they wouldn't able to take him and was a little rude. We understand they have other pets to race care off but my point is that we had already made this appointment almost a week in advance, We been taking our dog since he was a little puppy. read more

I guess I would call this my friendly neighborhood pet store. Since I buy most of my dog's treats and toys here. This place is well organized, and the customer service is pretty good. They have various pet paraphernalia for any kind of animal you may own. Oh and they have some interesting hamsters, rats, and reptiles to look at if you are in the mood to burn some time. They also sell some flea and tic meds for you pooch. Overall I like this place and more than likely will be coming back. read more

This is an awesome Petco. The aquatic guy was extremely knowledgable about the fish and what equipment I needed to set up my first tank. It's a Petco, not a boutique, so there's no going to be a lot to complain about here. But sometimes, coming home from a stressful day of work, I want to play with some kitties. However, they lock the kitties up at 6:00 and you can only stare hopelessly at them as they frolic and tap their little paws on the glass, craving some post-afternoon attention. Now I just have to wait until I get home and play with my old and ugly cats. Not the same experience. read more

The grooming service is AMAZING!!!! Brandie and Stephanie treated my dogs like they were their own. My babies mean the world to me and I was very nervous their first time to a groomer but Brandie made my experience great. I think we have found our new permanent groomer! This review is for the Petco grooming service on 41st Street. We switched from another Petco to this location and are very happy we did. They take extreme care with our dog. He always looks clean and neat and we have had good luck with special needs for our dog. The grooming was great! Our dog looks so cute. However, I'd recommend NOT allowing them to suppress your dog's anal glands. Our little fur ball has been dragging her bottom ever since, especially have she goes potty. I'm hoping that this will subside (it's been 2 days now) & we don't have to make a very expensive trip to the vet to have it checked out. read more

The customer service is very poor at this store. Specifically, Alyssa needs to hone her customer service skills if she wants to continue to work in a job dealing with the public. Grant could use refresher training on proper management techniques. This will be the last time I use this specific store. The other locations are much better. I would rate this the worst place to take your dog to get groomed. Brandie was extremely rude and incompetent. After I had dropped off my dog and was all the way back to work, she called and said they refused to bathe my dog because he had some tangles in his ears. Not only an inconvenience to my schedule, but had she had any sense, she would have said something while I was dropping off my dog. When I picked him up, she was turning away another dog for the same reason. Once I got him home, it took me five minutes to brush his ears out. So, she's not only a terrible manager, but also lazy. After this experience, Petco has lost my business for good. read more

This is all about the grooming, not the actual store: We brought my dog here to be groomed a little bit ago. He's always been good with the groomers at Petsmart. We came for a nail trim. The girl at the front brought him back pretty quick & we were confused, because it should've taken longer, they didn't even file his nails. Why? Because he was TOO violent & kept nipping. This was hilarious to me considering, my dog has never done this. I'm pretty sure that they weren't properly trained in grooming & probably scared him or even worse hurt him. Don't even bother coming here for anything other than dog food or treats. Waste of money and time. Even after we discussed the situation with the employee, she wouldn't refund. Crazy. read more

The store is about 3 stars....... But the grooming service are -3 stars..... I took my rescue there to have her "pooper" expressed and the girl that did the expressing insisted that my dogs "skin issues are due to fleas" because she saw "fleas ALL OVER" my dog when she was expressing her pooper. I tried to explain to her that my dogs "skin issues" are due to scars from abuse and neglect, she heard none of it. Then proceeded to tell me I must go home and "bathe my dog now". Look human, I've been with my dog 5 years, 15 hours a day, and have seen 3 fleas. If she got a flea she got it at Petco! My dog is the most well cared for dog (now) that I know of so before you think you're the flea police.... stop and listen for a minute. No one should ever get the treatment I got last week at the Hancock Center Petco. I had taken my dogs there for about 20 years, but when I asked if the groomer could please try to trim my current dog's face more like his breed, I was told that they'd told me before that his hair was matted next to his skin, that he gets nervous on the table and he is a senior, he was "groomed that way for his safety". (He was a show dog, I brush him regularly and he's 7, my dog always seemed happy to be there and I always inquired how he behaved.) I said I'd never been told ANY of that, and if it was true, why did one groomer get it right a few times ago? Their answer was, "well, then take him to that groomer at the north store." The manager was called in, and backed up the person at the desk, saying "we'll groom him for free today since you made the appointment, but you can't come back here ever again." I said I wouldn't leave my dog there after that exchange, free grooming or not. I found a longtime local shop to groom my dog, and of course, I'll never set foot in a Petco again. Oh, and, when I tried to call corporate, all I could get was a call center in the Philippines.... read more

I used to avoid this Petco, this entire shopping center in general used to be a rat infested dump 2 years ago. However, I recently moved back to central Austin and decided to check it out. The store has been remodeled and it's a whole lot more cleaner. Plus the staff seems to have a more positive attitude than they used to. The only downside is that this is a still Petco, so that means there is only like 2 employees in the store at any given time. Granted, those 2 always seem to know more then the 5 kids you have at the nearby Petsmart, it would just be nice to not have to wait in line for checkout every time. read more

As a new cat owner, thought it'd be a good idea to go here since it was so close to HEB! Convenient, I thought! Convenient, it was not! The store was kind of messy and didn't feel well kept. Their cat toys/care/etc was limited. They had the right food I was looking for but that's about it. When I asked a couple of employees questions, they responded with "maybe we'll have more next week" or were not very helpful. Didn't seem very enthusiastic to help me. I put all my things back from my cart and went somewhere else. Might return if they have something no one else does but I highly doubt that will be the case. read more

Don't go here if you want service or have questions. I've been to this location a few times because it's the closest pet store to my house. There is NOBODY working here. On my last visit I had one purchase in mind. I couldn't find it (the store is poorly labeled) so I sought out an employee to ask. It's not a big store, but there was nobody to be found. When I finally did catch up with an employee to talk to, he already had a line of customers with questions (big surprise!). Finally I got my turn and he pointed in me in the direction I needed to go and said, "If you have any more questions ask the trainer." Turns out the trainer (only other employee in the store) was working the cash register, something I found out after I realized the product I wanted was in a locked case that only he could open. So I sat in line behind four people and when I got to the front and told him I needed him to open the case, he tells me, "Let me check out these people behind you and I'll get it." I look behind me, and there are four more people in line and counting. I told him I'd already waited long enough and that the line was just going to get longer, so if he didn't do it now I was leaving. Blank stare. I left. Moral of the story: After 20 minutes of waiting and no help whatsoever (and no purchase), I'll be avoiding this dump like the plague. read more

Just got my dog's nails clipped and done at the grooming center. He's normally a total pain when he gets this done, but Stacy, the groomer, was very calm with him, so he chilled out too. Got it done in half the time it normally takes, and she was personable to boot. Also pretty cool that they're open until 8 p.m. read more

I just want to take the time to give a huge shout out to the Grooming Salon Manager, Brandie. I recently adopted my furr baby and took him in for his first groom. His foster parent advised me that he had never been taken for an official groom so, naturally, I was a bit nervous in scheduling an appointment. From the moment I arrived Brandie was super attentive to my pup and made him feel right at home. She also took the time to speak with me about the new pet discounts that they have to offer and even came home with a new 2018 calendar. By far the best experience I've ever had at a grooming salon. DO NOT take your dog for grooming there!!! I have a sweet and smart miniature schnauzer and took her there for her hair cut. The woman was short of words and unkind to me and to the dog. Two hours later, I got a message saying that my dog was ready. When I went to pick her up, the woman said my dog had tried to bite her and could not finish cutting her hair!! My dog has never ever bitten anybody or any other dog. I'm afraid they hurt her or maybe the woman was having a bad day... I don't know but I'm not going to trust them ever again. Even though I did not pay for that, now my dog's haircut looks awful. read more

The store is dirty and the Staff never knows what their talking about when they suggest products or animal care. The fish department is especially horrible. The fish are always sick and the people working there never know anything about fishes. They simply advice for you to float the bag. They need to hire more competent staff. read more

Went in the other night to get some betta medication - I've gotten Hikari BettaRevive water treatments at this Petco before, but apparently now they don't carry it. I asked around and explained my problem - seeing as I've had numerous bettas over the years and am fairly well-versed with most of their health problems, I told the woman helping me specifically what I was looking for. She challenged my knowledge about what was wrong with my fish - quizzing me over its symptoms, behavior, etc. After about 10 minutes of this, she admitted that she didn't know a whole lot about fish, and went to go grab their 'fish specialist". Who knew that "specialist" is pet-store speak for "dolt"? The "specialist" informed me that I was keeping my betta in stressful location, and that his behavior was from "not being able to get out of the sunlight". Seeing as the water temp is never too high or low, and I've kept fish near this window for years (AND there are aquarium toys in there to hide in!), I had a hard time taking his sage advice. He proceeded to lead me over to the aquarium plants, and began telling me how the solution to my fish's lethargy, lack of appetite, clamped fins, and odd burrowing habits was to buy a plant. A plastic plant which solves my parasite problem? Thanks, but I'm going to call BS on that. He said if I didn't opt to go for a plant, to invest in some "BettaFix" - which is a great chemical treatment, but doesn't fix what my fish has. The woman popped back in at this point and announced that they no longer carried BettaRevive, but assured me that the "Bettafix stuff" is blue, and that it uses the exact same ingredient now. Wrong and wrong - but, being desperate, I bought it, used it, and read the label. It's the same old crap that it's always been, and it won't help my fish. If you want to be sold something that doesn't do what you want it to do, by all means - shop here! I won't be going back. Uninformed staff who will do what they can to sell you ANYTHING after they figure out that they don't have what you're looking for. A plant? Give me a break. read more
