DO NOT bring your animals here for grooming or boarding services whatever you do. We brought our dog in for a grooming and when he came home all he wanted to do was eat grass. Four days after and he still wasn't eating or drinking like normal. The vet said his bloodwork came back just fine and he was given medication to help with his appetite. We called Exmoor and asked if any other dogs were experiencing the same thing, they said no (OF COURSE). Today, still no progress so we took him to the emergency vet and come to find out there was an obstruction in his intestines and what appears to be a piece of plastic. We're responsible pet owners and the only place he had been that day when he started feeling bad was Exmoor. This is also to say that a family member of ours lost a dog back in 2012 due to an experience with Exmoor as well. Please make sure to read several reviews. Overall, not a good experience for our dog. I thought he was going to doggie day care and would have the chance to play and hang out with other pups. Unfortunately, Iearned later that they are crated in wire kennels with earthen floors all day long. No wonder he developed the bad habit of running up and down our fence line when he is home. With no chance to run and play, the only option he had was to bark at other dogs and pace back and forth in the small kennel space all day long. Took my Pomeranian for a grooming service, I requested a lion cut and showed a picture to the person who checked him in. Came back to a SHAVED Pom, it's so sad and infuriating but his fur will never, ever be the same after this. You shouldn't have a grooming service if you don't know something as basic as to NEVER SHAVE A POM! I received 50% back but it's not even close to the damage done. Never again. We have taken our beautiful Raggamuffin cat to Exmoor for several years now, for grooming. They used to do a very nice lion cut. The last time, she looked as if the groomer was in a hurry, whereas the boots on her legs were unfinished and uneven. Wrote it off to probably a new groomer, still in training. No worse for the wear. Just cosmetic. Decided to give them the benefit of the doubt, and give them another chance today. After returning home with her today, as she walked out of her carrier, I couldn't believe what I saw. A large area on the left side of her neck had been shaven down to the skin, and was raw, with a large cut that had bled. No one, I mean no one bothered to call me about this, nor did anyone mention to me that there had been a problem when I picked her up. Shame on me for not getting her out of the carrier to look her over prior to paying the $104.00 bill. Exmoor will never again get our business. I believe we are owed an explanation, and a considerable refund. If there were such a thing as a 0 star review, this would be it. read more

Exmoor is still the best, even during a global pandemic. I had to reschedule my dog's "camp" booking from April 2020 to July 2020, and they did so with a smile. I still can't believe they don't take deposits on bookings! Then they recently called to say they will undergo renovations in the house where my dog boards. This was a surreal experience. I called ahead and booked grooming services for both of the dogs and daycare for the younger one. We planned to have him come twice a week for socialization and exercise because my fiancée works full time and I am dealing with an illness and can't keep up with the little guy's energy level. The very nice person I spoke to on the phone gave me the hours we could stop by for a tour before the dogs' appts. I always recommend doing this before leaving your pet in someone else's care! It's allowed. Or it usually is: We parked in the one handicapped spot. Before we had finished getting out of the car, a white woman in a crisp sweater and slacks bustles out of the establishment and starts questioning us about what we are doing there, all faux polite, but just barely. She kept glancing at the parking sign and walked around to seemingly peer into the car to look for our placard. It was there, bummer for her. She said they were closing, which was not quite true--they had a good 35-40 minutes to go. She tried to keep us from entering the building by saying she wasn't sure how they could help us. We were trying to tell her we were there to tour the facility because we had appointments for our dogs to be there in two days, and I had been given the stop-in time window for tours on the phone. It was feeling surreal. She gave us her reasons for not giving us a tour within the time window for stop in tours, but those didn't explain her repeatedly interrupting us to talk to an employee about other issues, almost exclusively ignoring the presence of my fiancée, who is a woman of color (sometimes other white people only look me and not her without seeming to realize), asking if maybe we wanted a quote for the services before we booked, picking up the phone to call another client while we stood there, me leaning on a cane, and then helping a client who came in after us while we continued to wait. Or the fact that she ran outside to confront us before I was even out of the car. I'm just saying, "it's too late," or "I'm short-staffed" sounds a lot like "your kind isn't welcome here," when said in a certain tone and in a certain context. When I finally had her ear, I told her again that we already had appointments booked for Tuesday, that I had booked them a couple days earlier, and her eyes widened. "Oh!" she said. "What's your name?" She was a little more polite after that. She stopped suggesting we know the prices first like we were in over our heads, and she stopped encouraging us to leave. But she still wouldn't let us tour the place and she still wouldn't make eye contact or give us much information. I asked her what her name was, so I could put her on blast, and it might have been Mary? But honestly it was a few months ago and I've forgotten for sure. I didn't really want to think about Exmoor for a while. We are still trying to decide on a good daycare for the little anxious guy that is not already booked up, so if you are a totally inclusive + totally on top of watching and socializing your dogs daycare in south/SW Austin, let me know you want to take our money every week! After touring the facility and speaking with staff I decided against using their services. The staff member that gave me a tour (I think she runs the place) told me dogs are so happy when they stay with them that sometimes they split their tail from wagging it so much...ok that seems like a stretch. The property looks big but the dog runs are all dirt and seemed rather small to me. Dog's aren't allowed to play together unless you pay extra for socialization, which seems like a money grab to me too. Something seemed off or not right and I am someone that trusts my gut when I get that vibe. Again, I visited the place but I have not used their services. read more

I had a wonderful experience at Exmoor pet care services on 1/5/2021. The facility is a quaint complex of cottage homes located on a large parcel of land that is set back from the road, allowing for easy drop off and pick up in the circular drive. Employees meet you outside, masked for Covid safety, and security gates ensure your pet is safe at the facility. Exmoor required immunization records for my pet before his first grooming, and took thoughtful notes on how I wanted my pet groomed. When I picked up my maltipoo, he was happy and beautifully groomed, exactly as I'd specified. The employees are thoughtful, friendly, and experienced. Exmoor was highly recommended to me by my veterinarian, and in turn, I highly recommend this company! read more

My wife and I have a long haired cat who started to develop mats on her back from our recent move into a house with Carpet instead of hardwood floors, so after a phone call with Exmoor we decided to take her in. The moment she arrive back home she has had trouble walking, holding herself up, meowing in pain, not able to use her little box because of the pain she is in. It is very clear the Groomers here mistreat animals. I have talked to Exmoor on the phone and of course they are not going to admit any wrong doing. " Oh I'm sorry to hear that Margot isn't doing well." Clearly Margot was injured in the process and nothing was ever said to my wife when she picked her up. Now after taking Margot to the Vet we will see where to go from here. If you love your pet as a family member I would stay as far away from this place as possible. read more

READ reviews before taking your pets here. I posted a review yesterday regarding one of my dogs being cut while groomed and another dog shaved when I asked for it to be trimmed. Both dogs had diarrhea yesterday after returning from Exmoor. They insist that you pay before they return your pet to you-including tips. They refuse to discuss or offer refunds. Staff is rude and dismissive. Do not risk your pets being hurt at this place. Addition- Yesterday after posting, both of my dogs had diarrhea. After reading discussions in Nextdoor, it's clear that the sanitary conditions of Exmoor are poor and that many pet owners have experienced the same thing. Staff is unwilling to discuss refunds. They are dismissive and arrogant. Do not take your pets here and risk them bring cut and getting sick. It will happen. Read the other reviews posted for this place. read more

Bottom line / reasons my puppy is better served elsewhere: - doggie day care = your dog cooped up in a dog run (slightly bigger than a crate) with 2 to 3 other dogs per run. - they are taken out of their indoor dog run (on a leash) to an outdoor dog run with a dirt floor. no grass, nothing soft. just a dirt kennel for 3-5 minutes. - if you want your dog to have human interaction, play with toys, off-leash playtime or water play, that will be an extra $11-$15 per day. I have to agree with another Yelper (Jeff S) - lady giving me the tour was super impersonal and told me "i came at a bad time" because it was doggie nap time - overall, I did not get good vibes. I am sure the animals are looked after, but I want my dog to have fun, get attention, play off-leash and stretch her legs. I don't think you can do that here without adding a ton of fees. read more

I recommend that you find another place to groom your dog. I took my dog there a month ago. When I picked him up I noticed the cut was uneven, no big deal it happens. Twenty minutes after leaving I saw a razor burn on his rear. He's been nicked by razors before, which is understandably part of the process, but never so deep or so large. I'd say about a square inch of his skin was taken up and bright red. I went back to Exmoor, was met with a bit of a wall. The woman suggested that maybe he had rubbed his butt on the carpet. Then she suggested I just give him some 'hydro'. "What's hydro?" I asked. "Water." she replied with attitude. [sidenote: who says 'hydro'?] I told them I wanted to take him to the vet to make sure it was treated. I waited while she called the grooming manager. They said fine, just fax the bill. No refund offered. I went to the vet. He said the cut was about halfway the depth of his skin, meaning that he probably bled a lot when it happened and they likely tried to cover it up. While there, I noticed a number of other nicks around his body. Remember how they told me to fax the bill? Well, that process literally took over an hour. The whole thing was ridiculous. They didn't take care while grooming my dog, tried to cover it up rather than show me the mistake they made, and then gave horrible customer service in the wake of it all. --- I called the next day to ask for a refund, which I felt was completely valid after the experience and what I had learned from the vet. I spoke with the grooming manager. She was great. Very pleasant, very understanding, didn't put up even the smallest amount of resistance and apologized. That made me feel okay about the whole thing. I would have left it at that, but this morning I noticed that one of the nicks they put on his back is no longer growing any hair. It's completely smooth and totally scarred over. I wasn't going to write a review, but I thought it'd be good to share the experience so that it hopefully doesn't happen to someone else. So, like I said, I suggest you find somewhere else to groom your dog. read more

I had taken my dog before to Exmoor, the experience had been ok. This last time we took him, they decided to groom my dog the way they wanted to cut his hair. I told them on the phone for a trim for my dog no more than an inch cut. When we took my dog in we reiterated what we wanted. Also, we showed them a picture of what we wanted my dog to look like. When we picked my dog up we saw they had shaved his body and has done some halfway cut on his head. They did not read the notes or listen to a thing we said. My wife and I where looking for a daycare/camp for our 2 dogs. Seeing as our work schedules had changed. We called all over south austin looking for a daycare service. Exmoor was pretty much the only one that was not completely booked or had 6 week or longer waiting lists. We called and asked if we could come in for a tour. Showed up the next day for a walk through. The person whom was greeted us at the front desk was less than hospitable. She acted very short and had a very rude and almost arrogant tone. We where guve a brief 5 minute run through. They answered our questions and we where brought back to the office. When we inquired about pricing we where quoted a daily rate which seemed reasonable, however then they stated if we wanted our dogs to have any kind of interaction or playtime with other dogs that would be an extra fee per dog per visit. Otherwise other than potty breaks,and a leg stretch our dogs would be kenneled in a run the whole day. While cant speak for the actual care they give to the animals. However i do not feel i should have to pay extra fees for someone to interact with my dogs during thier daycare. read more

This place is top notch. I found it by accident and I'm so glad I did! Now I'll admit it, my dog is my baby. Thusly, I like places that treat my dog as I would treat him. Every dog has their own indoor/outdoor run, 5 walks a day, play time with dogs their size....and the people there really love the animals. You can opt in for more one-on-one play time, they offer extensive grooming services, doggy massage, training classes...and best of all, its close and not too pricey! The flat rate is $32 a night; great for people with larger dogs that are used to getting charged more for their animal's size, not so great for those of us with small dogs that don't take up much space. ;) They don't have a website (boo) but all of their receptionists are amazing. The Office Manager is *so* friendly and really takes time to go into detail with the services they offer. Overall, a very pleasant experience. I will certainly go back! read more

When I found out I was going out of town at the last minute, I scrambled to find a place to board my puppy for the weekend. There were many options, but I wanted one that was fairly nearby and that didn't charge an exorbitant amount. I came across Exmoor and I'm glad I did. Exmoor took very good care of my baby while I was away. Because he is a Doberman and therefore prone to bloat, I am super vigilant about his eating and drinking habits. Exmoor took all of this into account and followed my feeding instructions to the letter without thinking I was a crazy person, and for that I'm forever grateful. So why only 3 stars? Well, while Exmoor is great for convenient in-a-pinch care for my pooch, I would prefer for him to be able to socialize with other dogs and not have to just stay in a dog run for exercise. And paying an extra 15 bucks to have someone play fetch or go for a walk with my boy is a bit much. Still, my Beto was treated very well at Exmoor and I'm very glad that I boarded him there. read more

Breaking this down to a few points for you to decide... We went M-W and then decided not to go anymore. Overall not upset with them, just found a different daycare that seems to fit us better. Bad news first is always my motto. So I will start with cons and end it with the pros. Cons: ~$16 for daycare (walks only) and a fee of $15 for one 30 minute off leash play with other dogs. Not sure where they are walking these dogs throughout the day... so you should ask them that when you go. ~Trainer left notes that my dog jumped at her but that she redirected him and everything was good after that (so glad she was able to work with him so this is more of a pro). When I spoke with the trainer she said her redirecting method consists of using a long leash in group play on the first day so that she can intercede if need be (again totally cool). She also uses a voice command and... eh- spritzes the dogs in the mouth area with vinegar. (Which explained why my dog smelled like vinegar). I think most people will be fine with this method, but I honestly would prefer a different one. ~My dog always acted lethargic and depressed after leaving here. He used to act happy and relaxed after play at other places but not here. It was odd and I still can't figure out why he was so different after leaving this place. ~They use a fat leather leash that goes around their necks. It's placed on the lower end and not around the jaw area, always wondered if that hurt my boy's trachea. Pros: ~The ladies are all very nice and seemed to enjoy having my dog there. ~Conveniently located ~They are comfortable around all types of dogs. Overall: As always be prepared with questions so there are no surprises. Average daycare seems to be around $28-$35 so their prices aren't far off. It really depends on how much social interaction your dog needs/wants and how you want it done. Not every daycare is a good fit for every dog. read more

We have taken our dogs here to get groomed several times and they always have come out looking great. Aside from that, something happened today that will make me a life long customer and forever grateful. My 13 yo sheltie has been going downhill fast this week. We took her to the emergency vet and they didn't find the real issue and sent us home thinking it was just arthritis pain. We called Exmoor to get her summer cut and a soothing bath in an attempt to comfort her for what we were sure were her last days. Luckily they had room for her. They found that she had 3 maggot filled puncture wounds on her back as well as a pocket of maggots on her bottom. They did get her cleaned up as best they could. How is that for service? Plus, they literally saved my dog's life. I realize that some of this is just good fortune and any groomer who had shaved her would have seen it, but they were just so kind to us and our dog I can't help but feel like they are a blessing in our lives. Super happy with Exmoor. They groom my very furry Sheltie and do a fantastic job (furminator!) on him and he looks awesome. They take specific directions on what you want and don't want. The staff is so friendly and sweet to the pets. Always see happy customers there. They've also boarded my cats. Another plus is that they offer a free brush out within 2 weeks of groom w/furminator and it lasts much longer. Very fair prices. read more

They shaved his legs almost naked (it wasn't time for his summer cut, thank you...) and they charged almost $70! My husband and I have used Exmoor often during the last 5 years for both grooming and boarding of our two dogs. We recently went on week long vacation and boarded our dogs at your facility for 9 days. In the past we have been very happy with the experience at Exmoor and have regarded it as a wonderful place to leave our dogs. However, this boarding experience has left us very unhappy. After getting our dogs back from Exmoor for a little over a day, I personally gave each dog a bath. On my larger dog, I noticed as I washed her there were about 3 dime to nickel sized dark spots on her back. At first I thought it might have been caked on dirt, but as I examined the area more carefully I noticed that it was clotted blood at each spot. I also noticed broken blood vessels around the area. To be completely honest I was horrified, as I have NEVER seen wounds like this, even remotely close to these, ever before on either of my 4 and 5 year old dogs. The scabs are still there and healing (a few weeks later). I immediately called my husband trying to hold back from crying. Not only have I never seen my dog like this, but I can't even imagine what would have happened at Exmoor to have caused these wounds. My dogs are on Comfortis for flea protection and Sentinol for heart worm. So I can't image this being caused by at scratching fleas, unless she was subjected to flea infested quarters at Exmoor. Furthermore, the multiple wounds suggest an extended problem while we were away. Regardless of the case, when we called Exmoor they said maybe she has allergies (which I know for a fact she doesn't) and claimed nothing happened to her. Regardless, I expected they offer some compensation or SOMETHING for this ordeal! Oh well, they didn't. I guess that's what you get for being a good customer with them. read more

I have taken my dog to Exmoor 3 times and each time feel as if my dog is hostage there. I do not feel the place is very clean, the staff are lukewarm to me at best. I also think that while priced about the same as others around here, they guilt (or scare) you in to spending extra money on walks or fetch. I always feel that if I do not buy a few of these things, my dog will be forgotten and left to rot in it's Cage. Find someplace else to go if you can. read more

I found Exmoor at the last minute for an unexpected weekend work-trip. While their staff treated both me and my pup very well, I can only give three stars due to the absurd add-ons for the services. If you want anyone to pay your dog any attention other than a "leg stretching" and "potty break" every 4 hours it'll cost you more money. Same goes for f you want your dog to have any social interactions with other dogs for a whopping 10-20 minutes. All in all, my dog was treated well and came out of the boarding service a happy pup. My wallet left not so happy. If you have the time I would recommend checking out some of the other services in the area that include socialization and playtime in their fees instead of surprising add-ons. read more

I took my cat for grooming and informed them that his nails were recently trimmed so they did not need to be cut much at all. Upon picking him up, I saw that his nails were extremely short and had dried blood all over them. My poor kitty will not even let me get close to his paws because they still hurt so much. He endured who knows how much pain having his nails "trimmed." I cannot believe any groomer would be untrained enough to do this and I will most definitely not be taking my cat back. The good news is, when I called them back for a refund the grooming manager was extremely kind. She refunded everything and was thankful for me letting her know that this happened. read more

I have been taking my dogs here for years. Tina Rosado is an excellent trainer and directs the "Scooty time" outdoor play. You get what you pay for. If you want a professional and well supervised environment, you will need to pay a reasonable price. Dogs have always been returned happy and healthy. I have taken training classes, including urban dog. Dogs are well behaved and has made a big difference in our day to day lives. read more

I took my dog here for his first ever groom. The groomer convinced me to let her add a 'very subtle' mohawk on his head. When I got him back, he looked like a mini-horse. Half of his face was shaved, and he had an actual mane from his head to his butt. He looked completely absurd... and all I wanted was a trim with a very slight, hardly noticeable mohawk. THEN... I had to take him to the vet a day later because his eye was infected and he had razor burn. He had to get on antibiotics for his eye and had to have a shot for the razor burn. (keep in mind, I had previously requested that they let him air dry b/c he hates the hair dryer... but instead, they keep the hot air on him for so long that his eye swells shut! yep, good work). Don't go here.. it cost me SO much money between a horrific grooming and vet bills... read more

I had to board my kitty here last minute for 5 days because my vet was full and they recommended the place. First, when I got there, they whisked her away very quickly, which I didn't care for. When I went to pick her up though, she smelled strongly of cat urine! Yes, every once in a while, she'll pee on something if she's really upset with me, and because she's so old, she sometimes has trouble keeping it all in the litter box... but there is no reason why she should have to sit in urine long enough to where her whole body smells of it! I am NOT happy with that. AND I brought her in with a measuring scoop for her food, which was not returned. I don't really understand that, but it didn't make matters better. Bottom line -- DO NOT board your kitty here! They'd be better off at home alone with someone coming to check on them! read more

Took my dog in for a grooming. Exmoor talked me into a "furminator." A little pricey on top of the grooming i was having done but agreed. My retriever looked like she had not even been cut except for around her paws. Thought they said come back after 10 days for a brushing. Just called to have that done. I was told - "no, it's within 10 days." They refused the brushing - said it would dull their tools. Then suggested I buy another furminator. Oh I'll jump right on that. No apologies for the misunderstanding. Very matter of fact. Poor customer service. My pets and I will never be back. Nor will my daughters with their pets. Ok, I've vented. Still pissed but I feel better. I would not recommend Exmoor. read more

We did the Beginner Training Class taught by Tina Rosado for our two Jack Russell Terriers. It is nice that Tina personally has JRTs so she has insight in how to handle them. The training was done over 5 classes & 1 orientation class (Tues & Thurs evening) and is the best value at $89 total. Tina was very methodical in what she covered and reviewed each night. I felt that everything she taught was achievable and not overwhelming. Even with our one very fearful, aggressive dog - she did a fantastic job! They LOVED going to school and got excited each night to show off their knowledge. We are excited to continue on with the Canine Good Citizen Program! read more

I just moved to the Austin area and wanted to find a groomer that was close to me.The first time I went to get my pom groomed I was pressured into getting all of these "extras". They make you feel like a bad owner if you dont get these! I called before hand to ask their prices for a cut/wash/nails for a pom and they told me it would be $35. By the time they hassled me to get these "fancy" extras it was $60!! The cut was ok but not worth the $60!! The cut was completely uneven. I decided to give them a second chance and took my dog there again. I asked them to trim her hair but to make it a tiny bit shorter for summer. She said that the groomer had poms and she could do a "oso" cut which was what I was asking for I guess... I picked her up and they had actually SHAVED her!!! The groomer shaved her body but just trimmed the legs and head. On top of that the cut was completely uneven and I was charged $80!!! I couldnt believe it! We have tried other boarding facilities where our complaints have ranged from: junky facilities, to cold/aloof personalities, to not enough people onsite to care for the animals. This is the VERY first time (other than the times we've left our dogs with family/friends) that our dogs have seemed completely unaffected -- or perhaps even happier! -- than when we dropped them off.
