This review is for grooming. I hope this place has security cameras in their grooming department because I suspect the groomer abused my dog. I had a first time appointment this morning for an express groom, and handed my dog off to the groomer. Minutes after he took my pup and closed the door, I could hear my dog screaming in pain - two shrieks. I know the difference between anxious barking/whining and cries when a dog is hurt. My dog cried in pain. He is an anxious dog with separation anxiety, yes, but the only time I've heard him make the noise he did was when another dog bit him and when a neighbor accidentally stepped on his foot. I've also fostered hundreds of dogs, so can tell the difference. My gut/instincts told me to just cancel on the spot and take my dog home, so I told the front desk to charge me whatever is needed and we go without the groom. My dog is 3 years old and has been groomed every 3 months for his entire life. Grooming is not new for him, plus I gave him trazodone 1.5 hours prior. I wish I could've liked this place because it's so close to home but it's not worth it when the groomer is inexperienced and abusing the dogs. I spent less than 20 minutes there but my gut instinct told me that this is not a safe or experienced place to hand off your dogs. Do NOT go here read more

First time using self service dog wash station and my experience was positive. Had everything I needed, for a somewhat fair price. It's worth the time and effort you save versus going to a groomer or doing it yourself at home. Too much of a mess and cleanup after. I recommend and will be back. read more

Told mgr would call me for refund after I paid to get my dog out if this place with aggressive dogs coming in and out. No mgr responded, even after three calls and two emails. Not one response. The grooming appointment I made for my 2 mini Aussies was scheduled out 1 month but I thought it would be worth the wait, based on the reviews here. I just received a message saying that, because they didn't receive my dogs' vaccination records (oh, and by the way, the groomer has an emergency, as well, and can't be there) my appointment is cancelled!! When I made the appointment, I was led to believe that Mud Puppies would be calling for the records. Today I learn that, "oh yes but Bluebonnet (Animal Hospital) is weird about releasing shot records." You couldn't have told me that 2 days ago so I could have requested the records myself??? Instead you cancel because you don't have the shot records within 24 hours of the appointment when YOU were supposed to get the records. RIDICULOUS! Adding insult to injury, when I said I would not be rebooking (again...another month away), the response? "No problem." Well, it actually IS a problem for me. This place has gone way downhill and treats its customers terribly. I have taken my dog to get groomed here for years and never had a problem with them until now. My normal groomer at Mud Puppies switched locations so I got a new groomer. He shaved my dogs body and left her head basically the same so she looked like a weird bobble head, so I called and complained. Im a long time customer and I figured they would take my dog in for the 5 minute bang/ear trim that she needed without charge. Instead, they charged me for a brand new appointment with a different groomer. I was 10 minutes late to that appointment, so they cancelled me and tried to make me pay the no-show fee. Weeks went by and I tried to schedule an appt for a future groom, and they refused me service. Im literally blacklisted because I switched groomers, and was 10 minutes late to my appt....What a joke. read more

Here on work - called to get my 7 pound poodle a nail clipping and quick eye trim. I was very clear with what I needed, and they said no problem bring her in at a certain time. Drove the 30 minutes to get there and they said they no longer had time to fulfill my request. Kind of baffled they dont have 5-10 minutes to clip nails and eye trim, especially after they told me what time to come in. read more

Wow this place is truly awful. I took my 4 month old Shipoo in for her first groom today. The Groomer could not explain what length he would cut or even if he would be cutting her. After 10 minutes of lots of confusion back and forth he took my puppy and started aggressively brushing her until she was yelping in pain. After deciding this is not the place for us, I was told I would be charged a $25 dollar fee?! I'd heard bad reviews but took a chance because it's close to where I live. I am livid. We took our English Cream Golden to get groomed here. My husband spoke to the groomer and confided in her opinion. My husband left telling the groomer to "Make sure he still looks like a golden." When we got him back, he looked completely different. He doesn't even look like a golden anymore. I am not even that upset with the fact that he doesn't have that appearance but in speaking to our vet, because his protective coat is now gone, he now is more prone to sunburn and lost all his insulation. In doing research, my dog's coat will also never grow back the same if it ever even does. The groomers here are not knowledgeable. DO NOT BRING YOUR DOG HERE! My husband came to them and sought out advice from someone who is supposed to know the ins and out of dog grooming and in the end, clearly they do not. read more

We have come here multiple times over the last few years. The ONLY people we have ever had trouble with are the ones at the front desk. The first time we had an issue was to drop off our dog for an early morning grooming appointment. They asked us to drop off at 7:30. There were people inside that clearly saw me standing at the door with my dog, but no one would unlock the door to let me in, or really even look at me/acknowledge the fact I was standing there clearly trying to get in. I walked from the front door to the back door countless times. I knocked. Nothing. Finally about 45 minutes later someone opened the door to let us in. The groomer was appropriately apologetic... No one else seemed to care. Today, they called and left a vm to let us know something about our dog but also mentioned that she was not ready yet. I decided to head that way anyway a little early. I paid and they brought her out to me. I was surprised she was finished so quickly. We headed home - 30 min. round trip. My wife received a call from the groomer in the back asking where our dog had gone because she was not finished grooming her yet??!! I had already made it home, but turned around and drove our dog all the way back to them. While there, I also asked if they would trim our other dogs nails who had been traveling with me in the car. I asked if they'd comp the $12.99 nail trim because of all of the miscommunication etc. There was zero effort to try to accommodate me, as the customer. I could have let that go. It was the 'fault game' that threw me over the edge. They continued to say they had left a message on my wife's VM that our dog was not ready. Yet, when I arrived, they charged me and brought her out to me like she was finished. But it was my fault? Clearly there is zero communication between the front and back of their facility. When I asked about the lack of communication between the girls in the front and the groomer, there was radio silence. No answer. THEN the young girls at the front desk began writing and passing notes back and forth to eachother like the middle school kids I teach. Even the OWNER came out and stood there without saying a word... listening... but offered nothing... No customer service, care or concern. Not a single 'I'm sorry' was said by ANYONE. After reading some of these other low reviews, you can tell the owner truly could care less about customers by his reply to another customer. Legal action? Really? Our dog will not be returning to this incompetent uncaring place of business. If you love your dogs as much as we do, I suggest you find somewhere else to go too. **It is NOT about getting something for free. It is about feeling like a valued customer after your staff messes up. It is about owning up to a mistake your staff made. It is about being a decent business owner and more importantly, a kind human being. read more

I spent about $65 for a schnauzer cut, which is the typical price. My doggie was in need of a haircut bad. So happy that I found a new boarding and playcare place for Dolly so close to home! My friend, Miss Amy D, has taken her pup to the North location of Mud Puppies. When I finally realized that there is a south location and that it is so close to where I live I knew I had to give it a try for Dolly. Like most places there is an orientation day to make sure your dog is a good fit for Mud Puppies. This costs around $30. After this you can bring the dog in for boarding or playcare. Play dates run $22 and boarding is $35. If you don't want to have your dog play or board they have a self serve tub room where you can do baths for your dog ($10-$15) or use the groomer on site. Dolly boarded here for 2 nights. Note: She is very used to being boarded so this isn't an issue for her. She has stayed at a variety of places. I did a tour of the dog boarding facility and they are basically little indoor kennels with wire mesh doors that the dogs sleep in. You can bring your dog's bed or favorite toy--just no raw hides. They will attend to special needs such as medicine or wet food at no additional charge (you need to provide instructions and the food). The dogs go outside to play several times a day which is great because other boarding facilities in Austin don't do several times a day. If you pick up before noon you won't be charged with a doggy playcare date. If you pick up your dog from boarding after noon you will be charged the $22. I feel like this place is very clean, well developed and well managed. Mud Puppies even offers training classes and they sell dog toys in their main lobby. You can tell these people care about dogs. If you do Facebook and you take your dog into Mud Puppies for orientation look for your dogs picture on the main Mud Puppies page as they usually feature new dogs that are coming into Mud Puppies for the first time. Note: Dolly gets a BIG SMILE on her face when I pull up to this place. That's always a good sign! read more

I asked for my money back and the owner called me and said No!!!! First time there and it's such a nasty place, unclean etc. I do not recommend the grooming place!!! The place was very cute and welcoming as well. The only reason I took a star off was because I'm a new dog mom and I've never used any of these services before. I have been a loyal customer for years and years with Mud Puppies. I really like their services and their grooming is always what I ask for. Unfortunately, as the years have gone on, the services have become fewer and fewer while the prices have gone up and up. I hate leaving negative feedback, but I feel this is the only way to reach them and really state my case without my dog being punished for it. I drive back and forth from Dallas quite often. I used to be able to pick up by noon or even one without being charged a full extra day of boarding. Now, if I am even a few minutes past 10am, I am charged an extra day. Meaning, I need to be up at 6am when I do overnights to Dallas to not be charged an extra $40. They rarely use social media anymore and I never get any kind of feedback on how my dog was doing while there. Did she have fun? Did she play? Did she poop well? I used to hear all about it and didn't mind paying a bit more for their services because of things like being able to pick up by noon or being able to see her on social media having a great time while I was away. I'm sorry to leave a negative review, but I think the owners need to know how much this effects their clients. Opening up that 2 hour extra window and allowing pickup by noon and posting more would make spending nearly $50 a night feel like I am getting more than just a kennel for my dog. Had 2 different girls argue with me when I told them they had the wrong dog with the manager even shoving a tag in my face saying, look the tag shows a picture of your dog! The girl actually was laughing as I told her to go find my dog as if it was no big deal. Once they produced the correct dog, they would not let go of her leash as they tried to pry more money from me. I had to ask the girl to let go of my dog so I could leave as the manager was yelling at me that I wasn't being fair to the groomer. I was then called several times and left an incredibly unprofessional voicemail message from Jasmine. I am a regular customer and this this the first time this has happened. I love this place almost as much as my dog! I have brought Jupiter here for playcare about 7 or 8 times now. I called about a month ago for the first time and they were ready to take her the next day. I often call to see if they have spots open the next day and they very rarely can't take her because they're full. They also just told me that they bought a space next door and are expanding very soon for more kennels and more play space!! She loses her mind when we pull up and she figures out where she's headed, and even though we don't go very consistently, almost every employee sees her and knows her by name. They also know she's a water fiend, so they set her up with a no-spill bowl when I bring her in. She always comes home exhausted and ready to snuggle. We just love this place :) read more

I typically never leave reviews for places but I wanted to make sure I gave Mud Puppies the praise it deserves! We have brought Toby here a few times for grooming appointments and always had a great experience so when our pet sitter backed out at the last minute we gave Mud Puppies a call to see if they could squeeze him in for boarding over the weekend. They were super accommodating and after his "orientation day" we brought him in for boarding! Toby was SO EXCITED to get out of the car and practically dragged me to the door! We dropped him off and had no worries while we were gone and when we came to pick him up he was just as happy as when we left him! He loves it there and now we are going to be taking him there for playcare as well! Highly recommend giving them a try if you haven't!! read more

My dogs looked horrible after their cut.. I went real early too and one of the groomers seemed to not have had a good nights rest.. You sign this and that saying that whatever happens good or bad Mud Puppies isn't responsible for it. Took the pups to the Greenbelt a few weeks later and there was blood all over my dogs neck and head which scared me to death but it was from when she kept shaking her head and the tips of both ears had been snipped so there were two open wounds on one of my girls. A week after my pups appointment my buddy sends me a Craigslist link that had a now hiring link for Mud Puppies that went somewhere along the lines of "Part time/ Full time groomers, no experience necessary.." These guys are great. Their facility is large and smells clean. I like that they have individual rooms, so you don't have to worry about other dogs (or your dog getting away from you).
