I went to Plush Pad looking for a gift for my friend's toy poodle. They had an assortment of items to choose from. However, most of the clothing and harnesses appear to be for larger dogs. Plush Pad is known for its grooming services. The shop was sparkling clean. The staff was super friendly and welcoming. This is the type of shop you would want to take your pet. read more

Wonderful place. They take great care of my dog. It's one of the few places I take her that she excited to go to!

Took my fluffy cat to get groomed and they did an amazing job!!! You are able to drop off pet in morning before work and pick up after. Super affordable and they give flea treatment if needed(which I did not mind at all because I was going to have to buy the treatment anyways). I definitely recommend, also the owner and worker were really sweet and made me feel comfortable! Cat or dog also gets complimentary toy after service is done! read more

Great groomers. Did a great job on a wash, trim and matt removal on my two cats. Staff is knowledgeable and very nice. Will be going again!

I have taken our shih tzu, cocker spaniel, & now longhaired terrier/chihuahua mix to Plush Pad numerous times over the last 15 years and can't recommend them highly enough-excellent in every way, easy to deal with, upbeat, flexible and VERY knowledgeable and professional-my dogs always look great, feel great & are not afraid to go there! Thank you, Sandra and all at Plush Pad! read more

Such a great, old school grooming spot! I took my 5 year old Boston Terrier for a bath, nail trim and anal gland expression. She had never been to a groomer before because obviously Boston Terriers are short hair dogs. But I don't trust myself with cutting her nails and her little baby brother has had two serious eye injuries in the same spot. We suspect her nails might have caused each injury (during rough housing play). Plus she has anal gland expression problems. My parents live around the corner on Shoal Creek so I thought I'd give Plush Pad a try! I booked an expressive service via email and dropped her off. She's a nervous nelly and I was a little worried she wouldn't allow the grooming but she did great! She he was so happy and smelled so good when I picked her up. And her nails were blunt and short and perfect! Plus she was done in 1.5 hours. Couldn't have asked for a better first time grooming experience for my precious girl! read more

Plush pad has seen my dog several times now (17, deaf cockalier). She's very sweet but very shy and she gets really nervous with her old age. The previous groomers she would be shaking and terrified to go in but here she has no problems. She is neutral and best and I have even seen some tail wags when we are checking her in. They are so kind to her and we are so lucky to have found them! They always give her a cute lil bandana that matches the season, too! read more

This groomer was a lifesaver. I had always taken my pup to Petsmart, but when I took her for her appt they shaved down the center of her back and then told me they were uncomfortable to finish the job because of her age. I called Plush Pad an hour before their closing time and they took mercy on me and took care of her. They were so gentle and kind. This turned out to be her last grooming, as we had to say goodbye a month later. So thankful for this groomer and their love for animals. Highly recommend! read more

Just wanted to express my gratitude to Plush Pad. They've groomed both of my boys for many years. however, very recently my Schnoodle got into Japanese Boxwoods and had a terrible reaction. he had sores and scabs all over his body. After several vet trips, we got the progression stopped and his long curly coat was a mess. Plush Pad took him, worked on him and gently got him detangled and nice and clean. My sincere thanks to them ! Hhg read more

We've been taking our 4 dogs now for years. Ms. Sandra and Ms. Amber are incredible with them and they are so well taken care of here. We have two French Bulldogs and two Maltese and they require very different things with respect to their grooming needs and I'm so glad we found The Plush Pad to take care of them! They smell good for weeks and are fantastic with cutting the Maltese's hair. read more

no stars we had an awful experience We brought our sweet westie in at 8am as instructed Turns out they kept him in a small cage for 5+ hours before they finally go to grooming him in the late afternoon poor fella was very upset when we picked him up the hair cut was fine. but the experience was traumatic for the dog and upsetting to his family of humans seriously read more

I brought my two dogs there about 2 weeks ago my small maltipoo is 3 months old and just needed a trim and my parents dog 5years old shitzu as well wanted a puppy cut . My puppy's hair came out great however I believe they may have hurt his leg or cut his nails too short because he was limping for a bit afterwards. Not to mention they cut off all my other dogs hair and just left this long ass mustache. read more

I've had only good experiences here. My dog is a Chinese crested powderpuff, and he has a double coat that mats just from existing in the air if you don't completely brush and comb him out every SINGLE DAY. Fortunately, I don't mind the "pony clip" which keeps him cool and mat-free in the warmer months (9 months of the year here.) He has hare feet meaning the quick in his toenails runs much closer to the tips, but the wonderful ladies at Plush Pad do a fantastic job of trimming his nails without ever clipping them too closely. He loves coming here and getting lots of attention. I appreciate that it's open early in the morning and later in the evening so I can just swing by on the way to or from the office. And the price is reasonable. Thanks ladies :) read more

I had a great experience here. I took Lucyna (springer spaniel/poodle mix) in and let them know it was her first groom (6 months). They told me it would have been ideal to have been socializing her to grooming earlier and that while they would do their best, they weren't willing to force it if she was struggling. I felt super reassured by that because I really wanted Lucy to have a positive first experience and not be traumatized! Afterwards they said she did ok but struggled a little. They weren't able to give her a full cut but she was bathed, brushed, and trimmed. They even gave her a bow and a bandana and a little toy for her first time! She didn't seem at all distressed when I picked her up. They recommended that I bring her back soon to just get a bath or something small, or even just to hang out and get used to it. Overall they were kind, open, and the prices were reasonable. I definitely intend to return. read more

My pup looks amazing! Her wavy or curly hair looked like velvet--she literally looks like a show dog. They made her fur so fluffy and adorable, completely even cut all over. That's never happened!!!! They took me for a same-day appointment, were very courteous and kind. I talked to the owner/groomer on drop off and she was very welcoming. I've been to Petsmart and Dirty Dog and this was the best groom we've ever received. My pup is a 12lbs Maltese and her full service groom was $73. Very comparable to the other shops. Overall, I feel very uncomfortable with the way I was treated when I brought my cat in. I called a few days prior and spoke to Sandra, the groomer who handles cats. I asked her how much she would charge for a simple "sanitary cut." She explained that it would vary depending on the cat but would probably be around $20-$25. However, when I brought my cat in on Saturday, she quoted me $55 for a full bath that included the Sani-cut and $35 for the Sani-cut by itself. The $35 pricing just made no sense to me whatsoever since that's over half the cost just for part of the full service. Sandra *insisted* that she would NEVER quote anyone less than $35 for a cat. It's not like I would make up the number, and I certainly wouldn't have made the drive out if I knew that price range. Sandra agreed to charge the price "I thought I heard" and had a bit of a nasty tone in her voice. She announced "I KNOW how this goes" and even offered to take care of my cat for free. She talked about how she has groomed "the most cats in town." At this point, I'm very frustrated. 1) I wasn't asking for a free haircut so I let her know that I would be willing to pay the price she originally quoted me. 2) I felt really uncomfortable moving forward given her tone of voice and overall attitude, but I had already made the 20 min drive and wanted to get it over with. I understand that every animal behaves differently, but there should be a clear base price range. Reading through some of the other reviews, it seems that other clients have experienced unclear pricing as well. Although Sandra was nice in the end and gave my cat a catnip toy (and an extra one for my other kitty at home), I felt icky for the entire day after what felt like a very hostile interaction. read more

Service was exceptional! Brought my Klee-Kai in for a nail trim, which she hates. Was in and out in 10 minutes!

I have an old cat (19) who isn't flexible enough to groom herself all over any more, so she was developing mats. (She has a thick double coat and hates to be brushed.) The problem had been going on for over a year. I could occasionally cut out one mat with scissors, but she hated that, too. The only solution seemed to be to shave out the mats. My usual vet refused to do it; I took her to a different vet who got some of them out, but nicked her with the clippers which put an end to the session. I bought clippers and tried to do it myself, but even with two people we didn't have much success. A groomer at one of the chain pet stores said she'd try it, but no guarantees and I'd have to bring her in first thing in the morning because she mainly did dogs. Finally, I talked to my vet about a sedative to give the cat before I took her to a groomer, and called Plush Pad. They did an amazing job!...a full lion cut -- everything clipped except her head, legs and tail, while I waited. Only took about 20 minutes. Thank you so much and Happy thanks you too! You solved our problem when no one else (including me) could! read more

Brought my pups home from another day of pretty pooch primping with pleasing precision and positive pampering at Plush Pad. This place has been around a long time and is locally owned and operated. These are the reasons why I keep going back: + They do a great job. My dogs look like they are ready for a dog show or possibly an appearance on Animal Planet each and every time I pick them up. + After my dogs have been groomed, they BELIEVE they are going to be in a dog show or on Animal Planet. They prance around expectantly awaiting an audience. + If I'm running late, they are nice about it - it's never a problem. + The pups get cute little bandannas that they display proudly (a nice touch if you're into that kind of thing). + When I'm dropping off or picking up, I never hear any of the groomers in the back room speaking harshly to the dogs they are working on. + They offer cute pet accessories. + And most importantly, my pups are never freaked out over having been there. The prices are a little bit on the high side, however, I am willing to pay a little extra to get peace of mind and satisfaction knowing that my dogs are going to be well taken care of when they aren't with me. Happy Pups, Happy Mom. read more

My cat is a himalayan and she is a very difficult cat to groom. Mainly because she uses her back claws and bites! I have taken her here twice and the first time they managed to do her with three people and no sedation, I felt bad but they did a great job! I brought her this last week and she had been given sedation, acepromazine, she looks great! The cost is a bit much, but worth it for me, I have concrete floors and now hardly any fur anywhere! The 90 bucks is worth it! She comes out smelling great and looking great and I know they handle my tempermantle kitty well! She is normally an awesome cat, but lord, don't groom her! read more

The Plush Pad is amazing. I have been taking my cat here for years and I can't think of one bad thing to say about their service. My cat is not scared or tramatized by them, she actually hates the cat carrier more than she hates The Plush Pad. They always do a great job shaving her, there's never any senstive areas or broken skin... And my kitty is a biter. She's always so happy to be fresh smelling and free of all her oppressive thick persian fur. It's usually around $80 but it's worth every penny. So happy to find a cat groomer in Austin! We moved here from San Francisco and were sad to leave our groomer of the past 5 years. I decided to take my cat, King Darius, to Plush Pad after reading their rave reviews. Setting up an appointment was easy and fast. They did an excellent job on King Darius's lion cut. I decided to choose Plush Pad even though there are 1 star reviews here and there. I gave them the benefit of the doubt since they've been family owned and operated since 1973 - I am so glad I did! Since my first phone call to Plush Pad, I knew my cat would be in good hands. The person I spoke to over the phone was friendly and professional. When I came in to drop off my cat (I made the appointment a week in advance and dropped him off at 9:30 am, picked him up at 3:30 pm the same day), the woman who took him back was very nice. She was upbeat and very welcoming to both me and my cat. I explained how I wanted my cat to be groomed and they did an amazing job! Everything was done better than I expected. They shaved his tail into a pom pom (like I asked) and everywhere else very neatly. Plush Pad even gave my cat a new catnip toy at the end of his appointment! After I went through a bad experience with Groomingdale's, I found Plush Pad. The people there are very nice and answered my questions very patiently. My dog had the best cut and best teeth cleaning. We had been to Groomingdale's for a year and my dog would still have tartar on his teeth. But with the Plush Pad, my dog's teeth were so clean. When we picked up my dog, the owner even gave my dog a toy and he loves it. I ended up paying about $72 but it was worth every penny. They did a great job so actually my dog doesn't need to go back for a while, but with Groomingdale, my dog had to go back every 1-2 months. So I save more $$ when I choose the Plush Pad. I definitely will go back again. read more

I am writing this review from the emergency vet waiting room. I brought my six month old schnauzer, Walter to Plush Pad since I read the review about this great schnauzer cut they did on another dog. Walter has been groomed a couple times before- at PetSmart, so I thought it was a plus that we were supporting a local business when he needed a haircut. First, I dropped him off at 8:30 am. When I got there I mentioned to the groomer that he does get hot easily- so she said she could shave a little bit of his skirt to help with that. I agreed. I didn't hear from them until 2:30 pm, that he would be ready at 3:30. Okay, that's fine. At PetSmart his cuts never take more than 2-3 hours, but I figure they're a smaller shop so probably take a little longer. I pick up Walter and the groomer is extremely apologetic. She had nicked him on his scrotum and he keeps scooting, clearly very stressed out. She doesn't charge me for the service, gives me a free collar, her cell phone number, and some benadrly lotion. I think Walter's just being a weenie- he's a puppy so kind of dramatic, and don't really think of it. She was really apologetic so I almost felt bad for her, but she did say something about how she had never experience a response from a dog like this ins 40 years of business, and how maybe he needed to be tranquilized. I didn't really appreciate that in retrospect. We get home and he is screaming bloody murder. I use the benadryl lotion, give him actual benadryl, use some cooling gel, no avail. He keeps crying and crying, to a point where I realize something is truly wrong. We go to the vet and Walter doesn't just have that one nick- he is almost raw around his tail, has razor burn all over his stomach and chest, and has large nicks in his armpit. He will be on pain medication for the next five days, and he is TRAUMATIZED. He hasn't slept through the night, has been crying non-stop for the past 12 hours, and went through a huge shaking fit from his anxiety. So, that's my two cents. I will not be returning. I am sad that my effort to support a local business blew up in my face, but the safety of my puppy and his sanity is most important to me. I'm not even that mad about the emergency vet bill, but more that I'll spend the next week helpless while he's upset about his clipper burns and nicks, listening to him cry. As a dog owner, how would that make you feel? read more

I searched for days for somewhere that would do a flea bath for kitties in Austin & thankfully found Plush Pad! This place took such good care of my cat Marceline, she is normally quite anxious around new people & she was completely fine with the plush pad employees. It was a calm & cozy environment and the shop owners are so sweet, you can tell they genuinely care about your animals. They got me in same day that I called (actually picked up the phone !!) and gave an extremely reasonable price for my sweet babies bath. Plush Pad did a fantastic job on my domestic long-haired cat. He was having a bit of a bad hair day (among other things) and they managed to take care of him the day I called. They could tell I was frantically trying to find a groomer and I truly would've done anything for them to take him in but they were so nice about it and I was lucky they were able to help me on such short notice. I highly recommend Plush Pad as a pet groomer and will definitely be bringing our furry friends back there again. read more

Took my cat here once several years ago (pre-Yelp ubiquity); a recent neighborhood list serve discussion prompted me to recall that awful experience. When I picked her up I was gruffly informed that they nicked her when shaving her belly. They quoted me one price and charged me more at pick-up saying she was hard to handle and that they needed three people to hold her down. As noted by another reviewer, the pricing structure was printed nowhere, leaving them the ability to increase the rates for reasons no customer can disprove. My cat was 15 years old at the time, weighed 8 pounds and was fully declawed,* i.e. hardly difficult to handle. I now go to Woof Gang in Westlake where she is in and out in 10 minutes and for much less. But most importantly, she is treated gently and has never been nicked. I've watched her be groomed at Woof Gang and she is docile, as you might expect with an older cat with no ability to defend herself. Go somewhere else for cat grooming. Reading the other negative reviews reinforces that this place wants you to pay for them to manhandle and often cut your animals. *i adopted her from the shelter fully declawed. It was not a factor in my deciding to adopt her, and I do not condone declawing. read more

We've taken our dog here a couple times and it was always okay. One time they made our doodle look like a Schnauzer, it was the worst haircut I've ever seen. My friends said she looked like an alien. I had to cut it again myself. But we're having trouble getting in elsewhere so I thought I would try this place one more time. After this groom she's been licking her legs and private areas nonstop, clearly in pain from nicks and razor burn. I'm having to put her in a cone to stop the excessive licking.. I think this place takes more dogs than it can handle and in turn does a poor job. won't be coming back. read more
