We had a great experience today with our groomer, Sarah. She took incredible care of my 7lb cavapoo Juno, who is usually a nervous wreck but came out of the grooming as her usual excited self and wasn't anxious at all the rest of the day. The experience from start to finish was great for me as well. I got to talk to Sarah at the start, during which she took a look at pictures I had brought in and was genuinely interested in discussing the look I was hoping for. It was easy to know when to come get your pup (they text you), and the price was very fair for everything they did (~$100 for grooming, nails, and brushing teeth). I was shocked how disappointed I was with this experience! I brought my dog in at 8am today, and she wasn't ready to pick up till 3:30pm. Plus, when I went to pick her up, the stylist Jill was very rude as to how my dog was behaving. I had already pre warned them in the morning that my dog doesn't like the blow dryer and she still proceeded to text me as if I didn't warn them already. After I picked her up, they told me to sedate her next time since they had an issue with the hair dryer and doing my dogs paws, even though I've never had this issue at any other dog salon. We have gone to Mod Mutt for over a year now. The first three times, they groomed my dog with little issue other than late pickup times. On the fourth groom, they completed the haircut but told me that I can't bring him back unless he is medicated. I was a little surprised, mostly because they hadn't said anything like that the first 3 times. In fact, the old groomer even said he was a good boy. I know my dog is anxious, and I had considered medication for other high anxiety moments like the vet, so I decided to get him on medication. The next groom was fine. Late pickup, but I've come to expect that here. They have time management issues. Today, they call me 20 minutes after drop-off to ask if he is medicated. I tell them he is. They say he is still too wiggly and they can't cut his hair because he is barking in the kennel. They did not give him any time to calm down. I don't know if anyone even made an effort to help him calm down. They never even got him to the table. They called me, had me pick him up, and guess what? We will never be returning. When I came to pick him up, I was expecting him to be erratic and anxious. He wasn't. He let me slip his harness on and then sat at my feet while I assured the new groomer that we will never be returning. The new groomer here is not qualified. If you have a dog who is "wiggly" they will call you and refuse to groom the pet. If you have an anxious or excitable dog, I would go elsewhere. For the record, my dog is incredibly sweet and not aggressive. He is just scared. If anything, I think this place worsened his fear and anxiety around grooming. Other negative reviews for this groomer corroborate that theory. Don't go here. read more

Honestly, I'm shocked that there are not more reviews on this page. Mod Mutt Salon and their staff are hands-down the best grooming facility in Austin. I admin the local Austin Siberian Husky group on Facebook and any time grooming come up, I recommend them 1000x over. I have converted multiple people there and none of them have been disappointed. I feel so awful that I have waited so long to leave a review. I originally saw their work through a rescue organization I was a part of. They did a phenomenal job on a very matted up, woolly husky. And I told myself that one day when I got a woolly husky, I would go to them. I didn't care how much more they cost. I own five huskies, now. I was taking one to a place that he had been to his entire life, two to a place that was closer to me (at the time), one is recovering from being feral so I didn't trust anyone, and the other I started taking to them as a puppy because he was my first woolly husky. The pictures I will attach will be of him. From the get go, I felt like I was part of the family. It did not feel like a stuffy, generic grooming facility. Anytime I had questions, they answered them. When I ASKED for honest feedback on my dogs' behaviors during grooming, they gave it. It is very clear that they know dogs. They have been able to kindly scold me on when my dogs probably should come in (and I have asked for them to do so, so please don't feel that you will have the same experience). And it's not to sell to me. I also am able to go and get nail and paw pad trims. I took my feral, flight risk husky for the first time and they handled her wonderfully. At the end of the day, they just do a top-notch job. I have been to at least three other groomers in the area, and while none of them have been awful, Mod Mutt stands out like the brightest star in the sky. 1000/10, A+++. If you're looking for someone who knows what they are doing, can give you professional advice and feedback if you want it, and does a top-notch job, you found your place. The price might be a pinch more than you are used to, but it is entirely worth it. Those dogs I mentioned who were going to groomers all over the place now exclusively go to Mod Mutt. All five. Tomilee and Luther are Texas grooming history. Luther has taught the staff how to strip terriers. It is truly a lost art among groomers. It is what is needed to keep their skin and coat healthy. I took both of my dogs here last weekend for the first time and am so so happy with the services. Will absolutely be taking them back next time. Safe to say we have a new groomer that is very conveniently located for us as well! Dolly - had the face, feet and tail service with nail trim and my dog Dani got a full groom and nails. They are 100% the softest they have ever been post groom, I'm not sure what they used for shampoo but it's amazing and smelled great. My old groomer who we went to for years had recently gone up significantly in prices and I was driving 30 mins each way. Dani would also usually come home with bad razor burn on her bum :/. They were also both very happy when they came home and wanted to play, they were not stressed out at all. They had zero issues here and I just can't say enough about how friendly everyone was. Took my dog here once and ever since, she has been afraid of scissors. The groomer claimed to be experienced but my dog, who has never had issues at any groomer, is now afraid. I used to take my dog to Barkin Creek but the groomer we went to moved out of state, so I figured I'd try a new place. I still recommend Barkin Creek - and definitely over this place. My dog and I have both always had repeating anxiety going to the big box pet stores for nail trims with hit or miss service in a fluorescent, stressful environment and inflated pricing, often with upcharges for "teeth brushing". When COVID came around and my pup came back from one of these stores without his nails trimmed (what I needed) and being charged for a bundled package, I knew that finally I had to find a new option and that there MUST be better places out there. My small yorkie is not easy to groom, and he gave Lori a really tough time his first time getting groomed with her. Lori was extremely apologetic about the dogs seemingly harrowing experience and it was immediately apparent she genuinely cared about the animal and the services she provides. In fact, she did not charge me for his full groom, and offered this advice: try to habituate him to a single groomer, so that he acclimates--even if it's not us, just be sure to be consistent. I brought my dog back and Lori was once again great. He's still not easy to groom, but she did a great job with his cut and threw in his bath for free. A+ customer service. The online appointment request was easy and we immediately received a confirmation email with an appointment just two days out. The initial haircut and trim was perfect, except that I didn't communicate that well (new puppy and new to grooming) and the cut was a little long. When it hit 104 degrees that night, I decided a shorter cut would be better. I called ModMutt this morning and asked if I could pay a reduced fee for a shorter cut and they said, "No charge, we want you to be happy, bring her in and we can trim her while you wait!" I have a tiny chihuahua who I adopted from a shelter. He suffers from some pretty serious separation anxiety and the very first time I dropped him off I had to carry him in. When I handed him over he cried like an infant a grabbed for me with his tiny paws. Lori reassured me he'd be fine and that if he was too anxious to be on the table she would groom him on her lap. What a wonderful experience from top to bottom! Until going to mod mutt I hadn't realized how mediocre my prior groomings were! I just thought I had a strange looking dog! I was in the market for a new groomer after my schnauzer had what we referred to as 'the Cersai cut.' Sharona's cuts have always been ok, but the last one was very uneven and she was super stressed when I picked her up. I didn't want her and our new addition, another rescue miniature schnauzer, to go through that again, so I started with Yelp. Modmutt's reviews and ratings stood out, so I checked their website, which is well put together and even had a video showing their whole grooming process. Then, I saw a really well groomed spaniel in my neighborhood. I asked the owners who their groomer was and modmutt came up again. So I made an appointment for 2 weeks away. In that 2 weeks I completely lost the battle of the burrs. I take my dogs off leash hiking at least twice a week, and despite my best efforts, they had basically turned into Velcro tragedies. I was already a bit worried about modmutt thinking I was the worst dog owner ever, so the morning before the appointment I took them to the park to expend some energy before their grooming session. Of course, this was the day they decided to play in the mud and get covered in even more burrs. So I head into modmutt at 9 am, so concerned that I am dropping off the world's dirtiest, grimiest, most burr filled dogs, completely prepared to be shamed, but instead, everyone was super calm, kind, told me it was no big deal, and put me and my little monsters right at ease. The environment was great - usually my dogs are a touch anxious walking into new environments, but they were totally cool and at ease. The staff was amazing and walked up to each pet to get to know them. They even verified that both dogs could be in the same stall, which I really appreciated. Within 2 hours (which is crazy- it has always been a 4-6 hour drop off for me) I had two svelte looking dogs who smelled great and had nice, trim, even coats that are much better equipped for our adventures in the woods. I was amazed that they were able even to salvage one of their beards. And the dogs were happy! Sharona is usually at least moderately stressed leaving a groomer, but these little beasts clearly enjoyed their spa day! They gave me a super cute report card and let me know that due to one dogs reaction to being brushed they went a different route, which I so appreciate. I was looking for a relationship with a groomer who I can trust to make the best decision for my dog, our lifestyle and aesthetics, in that order, and I definitely think I found one. I literally can't wait to go back. Their price is a steal in my opinion, especially when you compare the skill and service with other options at the same price point. I'm still blown away at the quality of their cuts and how great the service was. Highly, highly recommend. read more

My first impression is that this place (and its people) is amazing! I chose this groomer by using yelp. I live 40 minutes away from the facility. I'd rather go somewhere with great reviews. I linked to the website from there and conveniently booked the appointment and filled out all of the required information. I received a confirmation email and was able to send them all of my puppy's vaccination records. They took the guessing out of what is required by providing all of the information on the website and there is even a FAQ! How is that for convenience? The front desk ladies are so friendly and kind. Even when there are a lot of dogs at the front counter barking and going crazy they just keep their composure and keep it moving. My puppy is only 4 months old. Alexis was assigned as his groomer. My pup is very busy but I have been working with him at home to help his get ready for his first session. I was afraid that he would just have to have a trim because of how squirmy he is. They try their best to do what you request but gave the option of simple things if the dog seemed overstimulated or was too squirmy. I left and turned around to go back and show Alexis how I would like my baby to look. She checked it out and told me they would call me when he was ready. Never once did I worry about his safety after I left. We arrived at 845. I told them I would like for him to be ready at 2 pm. They called to say he was ready at around 1145. I arrived to pick him up around 1215. WHAT AN EXCELLENT JOB!! He enjoyed himself and he looks so beautiful. I booked ahead for his 6 weeks appt and cannot wait to take him back.
