OMDog!!! I have absolutely nothing but good things to say about them! We rescued a 2.5 year old Yorkie/Cairn Terrier who was going to be euthanized because of a snarl. Can you believe that? Anyway, we had him two days and he needed a little cleanup. I gave them a call and the owner Kevin (owns business with his wife Jennifer) spent so much time explaining their process for a dog like ours, the care they take, he may need muzzled, etc. I instantly felt like it was the right place while we were talking. Made the appointment for the third day he was with us. It was amazing!! Our dog was perfectly groomed and he was a brave guy who didn't snarl or snap at all! They didn't even need to muzzle him. All of my fears and concerns were alleviated by Kevin, Jennifer and their team. Everyone cared about our guy and wanted him to have a safe and calm experience. I can't recommend them enough. He was ready for pickup after a few hours. He was fresh, soft, clean, and smelled sooo nice. His nails were perfect. And with the deshedding, he looked like a different dog! my dog likes it there, the people were nice and my Germain Shepherd never looked better, Nail trim took her back two days later for a bath. Bath and de-sheading, glands, ears, feet, the works! Other places can do cheaper, but my dog was happy to be there and was treated very well. I take my 2 year old Sheepadoodle, June, here every few months and we have never had a bad haircut, which I don't think a lot of Doodle owners can say. They have a helpful chart that shows how short your haircut would be and all of the groomers take really good care of the dogs. I came to Yelp in hopes of finding a great dog groomer in Austin. After noticing that they had a dedicated page to doodles and the positive reviews I decided to trust them with my pup. I am not disappointed at the cut but the amount of abrasions he has all over his body. His nose is raw, he has more abrasions in his ears from the cutting and plucking, his penis has all sorts of damage and so is his anal gland. They do curbside pick ups and ask for a payment prior to returning your pup (you're asked to tip for a service that you haven't seen). This place is overpriced and terrible they don't have set prices but estimates so you're unaware of where you'll be at until the service is completed. Their online presence leaves more to be desired, but the customer service is SO great! Trying to find a groomer during COVID has been a nightmare, but they answered their phone after the second ring and booked my pup for the next day. Really great social distancing practices - the check in and out was smooth as butter and the price point is perfect. They even threw in a free oatmeal wash for being a first time customer. All in all, I paid ~$80 for a full service wash, nail trim, teeth cleaning, and de-shedding, oatmeal bath, etc for my 65lb double-coat lab mix. My dog is usually a scaredy cat but they must have been main-lining treats because he was almost sad to leave. Thanks guys, you have a client for life. read more

I wanted to like this place, but it's pricey and they made my dog's back look really bald and patchy. His hair is about 2" in length, so they had a lot of hair to work with and now he looks balding. It was $75 + tax ($91 after a 15% tip that I probably shouldn't have given) for my 35 lb dog who they said was easy. I didn't ask for anything fancy. I literally just said shorten it. I'm not sure how I'm charged $75 to bathe my dog who is short-haired and clean his ears. I specifically asked them to clean out his paws - they weren't touched. I asked to have his anal gland expressed if it was needed - they didn't say whether they did or not. I told them he just had his nails cut but they were pretty jagged, so they said they'd dremel them. This wasn't done. Plus, with their weird drop-off & pick-up situation you have no idea what's going on inside. Nope. Never going back. read more

What a great experience.. I have a male husky, Zeus.. who I've been afraid to take to a groomer because I felt they'd be hesitant to take a breed like that, with the amount and thickness of the shedding. I spoke to the owner and he was soo incredibly friendly and completely put me at ease. When I went to drop the pup(5years) off I spoke again with the owner and he had the warmest personality and let me know they had it under control. Then, when I went to pick him up, I was completely amazed they Zeus looked like there wasn't a hair out of place. It was incredible. He had been bathed and his hair was completely dry.., something I've not been able to achieve by chasing him around with a trusty hair dryer. I really can't recommend Clean Critters enough. I never leave reviews, but so you're aware before you drop $100 - We have taken our dogs (poodle & sheltie) to MANY groomers and I have definitely gotten my fair share of cringy hair cuts (never bad enough to complain). Our sheltie needed a summer hair cut, we specifically said to go as short as possible WITHOUT ruining his hair coat. Also, it's common sense in grooming world to not shave a sheltie (or any dog with a double coat) because it ruins their coat (they get sunburnt). Anyway, they shaved our sheltie and blamed it on us for "not communicating well enough." The owner was quite nasty and condescending. No sense of empathy. Not the type of human I want to give $100 to. If he had acted apologetic and tried in some way to keep our business than this review would have gone a lot different. But judging by other bad reviews on here, his rude behavior is a pattern and I encourage you to spend your money elsewhere. Also, let me add that the owner insisted that he showed my boyfriend a fur chart inside WHEN it was a hands free drop off because of corona. AND he lied to me say he was super insistent with my boyfriend that it would ruin his coat - that DID NOT happen. There were a ton of people coming over to drop their dog in the pen and he moved on to the next person. Again, if the owner was like, "I'm sorry, what can we do to make this better?" I probably wouldn't be writing this. Not a decent human and upset we spent $100 (when quoted $85) for something I could do at home. read more

Took my dog for a summer shave down yesterday and they returned her with nicks in multiple parts of her body and they shaved so close to the skin (much shorter than requested) that her skin has become irritated. Her private part area was also shaved so close she can barely walk without having to stop every few steps to try to soothe the area - everything is red and painful and itchy. This place is way too expensive for results like these. And instead of trying to brush out any knotted areas (my pup has thin hair that gets matted easily) they just fully shaved the areas to avoid having to spend the time, like under her chin- and as a doodle she looks really weird with the unevenly cut face. read more

While I loved my pup's muppet locks, she was in need of some cleaning up and wanted a fresh Summer haircut. This was my first time going to Clean Critters and it definitely won't be the last. This trip was during COVID-19 and with all the precautions and processes they had in place, I felt safe and knew my dog would be in good hands. My dog is also quite shy but all the staff said she did a great job and I could tell she was looked after and she looks fantastic. She also smells amazing! Well I give photos and instruction specifically which is not difficult. When we picked up our poodles they were basically both shaved definitely the opposite of our request. But I had to stop going to this place because the owners/managers failed to communicate to me that their prices increase significantly before they charged me for service. I called and they got him in quickly, greeted me outside and asked about my dog and what I wanted for him. The owner, Kevin, took the liberty to call my dog's old vet and hear how they used to handle my dog. This place is probably the most popular and well liked groomers in central austin. I wanted to bring in my pupper to get a bath and anal glands expressed. Environment: This is located in a more local and nonfancy area, so if you're used to high class with champagne then this place is not for you. There is parking in the back and the store has two entrances, the left door is the only one that opens. When you walk in you will see some puppers sleeping on the side (probably the owners dog) so that was cute! Grooming: My dog got the basic bathing package and it cost $35 for his 33 pound lab weenie breed. He came out very soft and clean, but was shedding like crazy probably from stress. He was very warm for some reason and was panting, so I'm not sure if they have heated kennels or it's cause the place is so small that the insulation was just good. Overall I think they did a good job, his ears looked clean and he no longer rubs his booty on the floor. The only thing I wanted to complain was two days prior his grooming, he got some sugar water on his fur near his snout. The fur was obviously a bit crusty because of the sugar water and when he came back from grooming that crusty part of his fur was still there, so they probably didn't clean the fur on his face. Other than that they did a good job. Appointment: I didn't make an appointment and they were nice enough to squeeze me in! Overall I think this place was good for baths, I would probably mention next time what I wanted clean because I didn't specify that crusty fur on his snout. I did that on purpose this round to see how detail orientated they were. I would probably use this place next year when his booty rubs against the floor again. read more

I went through a custody battle over my poodle Stella (believe me...I know...insert eye roll) so I stopped going to Clean Critters until the smoke cleared. I tried SEVERAL groomers but was never satisfied with the cut but more importantly the customer service. This year I found my way back to Clean Critters after buying a house right down the road. Kudos to finding a groomer who as my husband says "doesn't make her look like a ridiculous pompom poodle". My only draw back is the cost of grooming now vs. when I started going in 2014 but the grooming outcome and the customer service help me look past that increase. I'm sure the price hike is due to the constant rise in property taxes on the East side, but either way Clean Critters is truly the best grooming service I have ever experienced. Be VERY cautious if you're considering this groomer. The on-site staff is actually quite curtious and accommodating while you are there but if ANYTHING goes wrong (regardless of fault), prepare to be berated by the owner (or manager) as if you were a seceond-class imbecil. When my wife and I got our pup home from Clean Critters his ears were DRIPPING WITH BLOOD and when we called to address the issue were asked to leave a number so we could speak with the owner. When the owner called us back, we explained the situation and his response was that, not only is his groomer in no way responsible but that the blood bath that was our livingroom was solely our fault. Why? Because we failed to adhere to his "recommended 6-8 week" grooming interval. And that this is the normal result of removing mats from a dog's ear (something that was news to my veterenarian). When I questioned why this was the first time it's happened after many trips to other groomers. He yelled about his contracts disclaimer and eventually hung up on me. We've been to serverall other groomers in Austin and have never had this problem. We groom our pup every 3/4 months. Regardless of blame, I can't believe a business built on word of mouth and customer service would treat its paying customers (or anyone) like that. read more

I have been here several times (I blame myself for thinking each time would be different but I live close) and each time the cuts are worse and worse (the first one was great, people were truthful, and my dog was happy, as was I). However, let me set the stage for the most recent cut: I have a mini Goldendoodle (30 pounds) that I admit had some matting with this most recent haircut and there was a chance she would be shaven. Out of probably 5 times coming to Clean Critters they have shaven her 4/5 even though we brush and bath often. This time was no different, they shaved her essentially down to the skin.... It took 6 hours.... and cost $145....and then i was lied to (which is the real reason for the review). I was told "it took 6 hours because they needed to demat her" (umm you shaved her, why would you demat her if you were shaving her), I was also told "She was squirmy so it took longer" ( been to around 15 groomers in her lifetime and most say she was really easy to work with). What I believe really happened was they planned to shave from the beginning so worked on other dogs first then got to her about 3 hours after drop off hence taking 6 hours, no attempt to demat. In short: I paid $145 to have my 30 pound dog shaved over a 6 hour period. For a benchmark perspective: I was in Florida in December after days at the beach, where I got her groomed by an 80 year old. She took 4 hours dematted her whole body and charged $65 with a smile. I wish I lived in Florida just for this gem of a groomer. Bottom line: In search of another place that is honest and doesn't cost 2x other groomers. Help! read more

Turtle is feeling and looking glorious after his visit with the amazing Aimee this weekend. This was our third visit and T was practically skipping towards the door. Everyone there is so kind and their love for dogs is always apparent from the minute you walk in the door. After being greeted so warmly, Turtle proceeds to turn into melted butter and is transported (usually carried like a baby in someone's arms, to his utter delight) to the back to embark on his spa day journey. He's always beaming when we pick him up! Let's just say someone has been sauntering around the neighborhood with wolf-like swagger. I feel a top hat and cane may soon be in the cards. I took my corgi to this place around 2 weeks ago. The thing i like about this place is how finally someone can cut a round bottom corgi butt that you see in the internet. I used to have corgi, and all the other places that we had taken him to always disappoint me with the flat butt. I tried cutting his but once but it is just so hard to do it at home without any experience. I kept forgetting to take the picture and now his butt is not as round as the first week he was home. And i think it is just not fair to post a picture that doesn't really depict their quality. The only thing we don't like is how his hair is still everywhere after the grooming. Yet I just picked up my my angel, and it looks like my 9 year old nephew went at him with a set of clippers. Not only has he been shaved, but very poorly. I took my little guy here after going to Petsmart for about a year. I never had a bad experience at Petsmart but they cuts always looked a little too clean cut for me. I've tried some other small shop groomers in the area and so far I've been happiest with Clean Critters! It was easy to book the appointment and it felt very personable. There was also plenty of parking in the back of the shop. My dog's haircut was about $70, which is usually more than I'd like to pay, but I'm so happy with the look that I'll definitely come back. read more
