These guys were quick, affordable, kind and provided a good service. Unfortunately, there were a few things that didn't work out so well for us. Some of the other good aspects: their bath service was $45 for my pet and included gland excretion, nail trim, cutting hair between toes (which was cool, and is uncommon in my experience) and a bath. I think this is a good value. I liked their payment platform. It made to easy to add a tip %. The facilities are large and include kennels for large pets. They were able to take me with almost no notice. Please note, I genuinely think these folks might be great for other pets, they didn't workout for us on the one occasion when we visited, and here's why: 1. They either use a blow dryer to dry off dogs or their air dry the dog in a kennel. I think these options are probably fine for most pets. Just in my case, my dog is very afraid of the dryer, and his breed has sensitive skin, so it's best to towel dry between the folds of his skin. Moisture sitting in the folds of the skin can cause irritation in my breed. 2. My pet has a very large face and mouth and I think the size Dog Muzzle they used while caring for him left quite a bit of bruising on his muzzle and around his eye. This just made me sad. If you'd like to take your dog here, the best option if you have a dog with a very large muzzle, might be to bring your own muzzle. 3. This is a minor point, but I would like to have tipped for my service after having seen my dog, since this was my first visit here. Because they were able to take me on such short notice, I may hunker down and buy my own muzzle for my pet, as this is the main issue I had. I may also ask if they can towel dry in the folds, just to avoid skin irritation too. read more

I have never been so excited to race home and leave a bad review. This is my second time using them. I want to start out with the positive - both times my dog came home clean. Yippie - they did their job! Of course the first time it took 2 hours - this time 5 hours. I have a 99 lb rescue akita. The only time he has ever been crated is when he was found by the humane society. He was approx 6 months old. I make sure to go out of my way to tell anyone who is handling him this - because if he is crated, when he gets home he is confused and can act out. I have had him for 7 years now. We just moved from Burbank, CA back to Austin, TX. My friend owned the grooming place we used to go to - so I know an "all in cleaning" of him takes 3- 4 hours.. TOPS. 4 hours is really pushing it. The first time he went to clean critters he was done in 2 hours. That seemed odd to me. But whatever, maybe they had more than one person bathing him - he doesn't get shaved - or any fancy cut - but he is a lot of dog, with a lot of hair. This time I made the appointment for 7:30 am - because I didn't want him to wait/and or be crated for too long. At 11:30 I called to see what was going on - she said they would need another hour. That's 5 hours. I reminded her that the entire reason I scheduled him for 7:30 am was so there would be no waiting. At 12:30 she calls and says he is ready... and if I want she can send video of how well he is doing. Well, that just put me in a mood. I think I might know the dog I've had for 7 years, a tad bit better (I also work with an akita rescue - so again.. I can know about their traits) - I remind her - it's not there, it's when he gets home there is an issue and I really don't want to argue with her about this. I go and get him, she apologizes and says again that he is fine here and behaved great - and I again remind her that I'm not worried about him there- it's when he gets home. Of course there's no mention that this took 5 hours. And no one comes out to show the slightest corner or apologize She then asks me if I would like to leave a tip - I said - I don;t even know the amount - you haven't told me. She shows me the bill - I say "great it's more than last time". At this point someone from the back walks out to tell me how great he was - yes, I know how great he is. Seriously. He's an amazing doggie. Mind you my debit card is being run at this time, so the girl behind the counter, ask the girl who came over where his card is and is the amount higher. She says no it's the same as it was last time - to which point I mentioned that last time he had more things done ($8 teeth brushing) - she's like "yeah it's $8" and walks away. So I should just pay the same each time even though I don;t get the same services? But she's already walked away. I do feel bad for the girl behind the counter that has to deal with all this. I know it's not her fault and she's doing the best she can - one of the positive stars o my 2 star review is for her. It's funny if you look at a lot of the current reviews - there sure are a lot of complaints about time management. read more

I debated whether or not to leave this review because the staff at clean critters are nice but if it can save someone an unfortunate experience I'll feel better about it. To start off, the place is clean and the staff is friendly which I appreciate. This review will probably only be helpful if you have some sort of doodle, I can't imagine having any issues getting a standard haircut for a lab/golden retriever/husky etc. I have a mini golden doodle and brought him to get groomed after seeing good Yelp reviews and getting a good rec from my vet. However, after not receiving the haircut I wanted for him the first time, I decided to give them another shot. The first time I asked for a puppy cut, same style/shape but shorter. He didn't look like his hair was any shorter when I picked him up, just blown out and clean from the bath. They said they could make it a little shorter but they'd have to charge me more? I found that odd because it was what I'd originally asked for. This time I went in and was pretty articulate with what I wanted. I explained I wanted a puppy cut again, nothing crazy just a trim so he wouldn't be hot for the summer. We even looked at pictures so I could show them. The one thing I stressed is I didn't want a poodle looking head. When I picked him up it was honestly pretty shocking and I haven't been able to stop laughing at the poor thing for the past 24 hours. His hair is practically all gone and there was a poodle-esque tuft of hair on his head, which I then asked them to take off when I got there. They wanted to charge me 100 dollars for this haircut which I told them seemed to be very steep for a dog of his size. I got them to agree to 85 which to me still seemed high and this was before I saw the haircut. The photos kind of speak for themselves here. I expressed my discontent with the haircut and how it just wasn't at all what I asked for . They were apologetic but there was no offer for any discount, just that they would make really good notes for next time. It's just hair and it will grow back, but we won't be returning :( read more

We have brought our dogs to clean critters a few times and have always been very pleased. We have doodles and they can have very difficult hair. My dogs are never nervous there and everyone I've encountered have been super kind. They are also very quick. Last week I dropped my sheepadoodle off at 730 and she was ready to go at 1230. The only reason I would not give them 5 star is due to the price. I feel like they are about $40 more than most other places in town, which isn't a lot but when you have two dogs it added up quickly. Perhaps they can start doing a discount when you have two? Overall great place to bring your pups just a little pricey. read more

After being groomed , and then a short walk home, I left to run errands . I returned home to bloody paw prints on my carpet ! After inspecting my dogs paws 2 of her nails had been trimmed down so short they began to bleed. she had blood caked between her toes. She is an active dog , and I haven't been able to take her for her regular walks and play time so as to prevent her nails from grinding down further and bleeding again. Needless to say I'm not happy. Within days after taking my dog to be groomed she began to develop itch crusty sores and bald spots. I'm faced with hundreds of dollars in vet bills. read more

I'll start off by saying everyone was super nice here. It was the first time bringing my shih-poo for grooming here. The intake process was great and made me feel comfortable leaving my dog here. We went over exactly how I wanted my dog to look and how he should be groomed. I even showed a picture of he looked from past grooming. Specified a teddy bear cut and to have him look more like a shih-tzu than a poodle - short on the body, teddy bear/puppy cut face. I thought that was conveyed well and understood. I picked up and dog... and he has no beard! No fluffy teddy bear face. This isn't what I asked for at all! I didn't notice until I got home that the hair on his body is uneven and his paw is nicked. I should have said something before I left but I was too in shock. Disappointed. UPDATE 7/28: Kevin- thank you for responding. However, none of what you claim Chewy has done as a "spirited" animal was said to me when I picked him up. I asked how he did and the response I received was along the lines of ok, he just didn't like his paws being touched so much. No mention of the dodging and nipping as you claim, no alert to a digging issue. No issues mentioned at all. If he was so difficult a call would have been appreciated. I would have picked him up without the service being complete. A trim was offered but there was nothing left to trim. If he was so nippy, how do you end up cutting his beard so short by his face?Again, I was too in shock at what he looked like to even say anything when I picked him up. I've never had a problem bringing my dog here. She always comes out looking good and seemingly happy. Now I must say my dog is super easy going so daycare and bathing places usually love her. I've never had trouble getting her in for an appointment and the office staff has always been super nice to both me and her. I feel like they always get her in and out within a good timeframe considering how busy they get. The only reason I'm not doing 5 stars is that it dawned on me that it's been almost a year since I've been bringing my dog here and they have not asked me to update her shots sheet. Which is a bit concerning. A friends dog went there recently and a few days later had phenomena. Don't know if it's related but it's a bitt worrisome. I'm really thrilled with the work these guys do! My Golden gets anxious at groomers but they do such a Wonderful job of calming him down when he gets there, they are such nice people! You can tell they love what they do! I've become a regular and never been so happy with a groomer. They are very reasonably priced! I haven't been able to afford to get my golden fully groomed and trimmed often, but I can now thanks to their prices. They are also much faster than other groomers I've been too. Their schedule is great! I drop of my dog on the way to work in the morning and he's always ready by lunch for me to pick him up. After they had cut my dog required a trip to a vet to get stitched up, we looked for a place with more experienced groomers and a more personal touch. __ Plenty of parking around the back. They have a "cardex" of the pets that come in. When you know that either groomer has 13 years of experience, you know that these people will take care of your beloved pet. We have referred friends to them, and then the next time we went in, they said that we got some credit for referrals. You can set up appointments, but I've called in a Tuesday morning and they were open to taking my dog immediately. read more

I brought my American bull dog here to have his nails trimmed. It can be a task since he is about 95lbs and 10 years old. After reading all the terrifying reviews before taking him to pets mart or pets co I decided to take him here. Pros: - Accommodating: called and they made me an appointment that same day with in an hour an a half. - Professional: they were not scared or intimidated by my dog one bit - Fast! the nail trimming literally took 5 minutes. I was so surprised. It's taken me half an hour on my own and I am so scared of hurting him. One person did it in under five minutes. - Luckily they were able to squeeze me in to give him a bath and a deshedding. I love the results. He was shedding a ton. Cons: - limited parking but wasn't really a problem since there was only One or two other cars - access and egress could be an issue during high traffic times - easy to miss, I've live in east Austin for my whole life and this place is a bit subtle. I almost missed it In the end I give this place five stars and although I love pretty far north I will be bringing my dog back here no matter what! read more

However they once scratched his eye while grooming, they covered the vet bill which was appreciated, but they then called me and asked to be refunded by insurance, which I thought was rather rude. The people here are super nice. I tried it twice and each time it looked more like they copped my pups hair with scissors than did a good blended cut. I don't think they do all the same services as other folks (nails, express the glands, ears, brush teeth) and for the price they really should. I also discovered they put cologne on the dog. WTF?! It was smart of them to get me to pay before I saw my pup, because if I'd seen the hackjob haircut beforehand I definitely would not have tipped. They don't know how to follow directions, & the red marks all over my pupper's skin tells me that they weren't careful at all. I asked them to keep my his head & tail long. When I come back my dog is completely bald & looked stressed & miserable. The "it'll grow back" excuse from one of the groomers almost has me ready to dispute the charges on my credit card. *sigh* Look, I don't want to leave this review, & I waited to do so until I tried another groomer to make sure the issue wasn't me. Now that I know I'm not some sort of common denominator causing problems, I feel like I need to write this. I made a Saturday appointment mid-June to bring my dog in for a full groom. When I made the appointment I was told to drop her off at 10 AM & it should take a couple of hours. When I came in I briefly discussed with the man working the front desk (I believe one of the owners?) what it was I was looking for. I showed him a picture of what we had done for my dog in the past: take her down to a 3/8" cut on her body, and I wasn't sure what the cut around her face was called, but it was clearly shown in the photo & I mentioned we like to keep her face a little on the scruffy side. "Oh, that's a teddy bear cut!" he told me. Great! Let's do that! Sounds great to me! He gave me a quote with a range for how much it would cost. It was a little pricey, but with how easy my dog is to handle & a coat that was in decent shape, I figured the final price would wind up falling somewhere toward the lower end of the range I was quoted (I'll gladly take responsibility for this line of thinking). Fast forward to nearly 4.5 hours later (!!!! I thought this was only supposed to be a couple of hours), & I finally receive a call that my dog will be ready in about 15 minutes. By this time I had headed home to wait it out until I was called to pick her up because I can only run so many errands nearby in that time before I wind up having to just sit in my car the rest of the time. "Ok, I'm on my way & should be there shortly after she's done!" To this, the woman on the phone replied, "Well, we close at 3:00, but I think I'll be here for a few minutes after if you're going to be longer than that." Seriously? I'm aware of what time you close. I get that it's a Saturday & you'd like to go home, but I can only get to you so quickly. Why was I not given more of a warning of when she would be done if it was going to be so close to when you're closing (which is apparently far later than when she should have been finished)? I don't live super close to Clean Critters - I'm pretty far west, but this was the first time my dog was going to be groomed by someone she didn't already know so I wanted to make sure she was going somewhere that clearly had happy clients & I was more than happy to drive a little out of my way to ensure that would happen. She is a super sweet, chill girl & I would feel horrible if she wound up somewhere where she was treated harshly. This is the one thing that seemed not to be an issue with Clean Critters. After rushing to get there before 3:00, I walk in, am tallied up, & asked to pay before even seeing my dog. At this point it's clear that everyone there would like to go home, so I don't push it & say that's fine (again, I'll take responsibility for this - I should have asked to see her cut first). I was charged $90 for a basic cut on a dog that weighs just under 45 pounds. With tax & tip it came out to over $100. Again, for a dog that weighs just under 45 pounds & who I was told by the staff was really well-behaved for them. Man, sure hope this was a good cut! They bring her out, & of course she's super excited & a wiggle worm so I'm unable to take a really good look at her cut, but it's shorter than when she came in which means she's not going to suffocate in the Texas heat, so it works for me! On our way home I'm stopped at a stoplight, so I turn around to look at my dog, & realize the cut she was given was absolutely nothing close to what had been discussed. Maybe half of the length of her fur had been taken off & nowhere near short enough to be a 3/8" cut. The fur around her face hadn't been trimmed at all other than around her eyes so she could see. I hadn't been on the road for very long, so I turned around & went back to see if there was a way I could bring her in again to correct all of these issues considering the amount of cash I just laid down. Nobody was there from what I could tell, which isn't that shocking since it was technically after closing time. At this point I'm so done that I leave & decide this isn't worth the argument. I don't have time during the work week to come in or to even call to try & sort this out. We stop at a pet store on the way home & I pick up grooming scissors so I can at least trim this poor girl's face myself. It didn't look that pretty, but she clearly felt WAY better than she did with her face having not been trimmed at all! I'm not sure if there's a new groomer on staff or this was just an off day for Clean Critters or what, but an exorbitantly priced cut that met only maybe half of what was discussed is a bit much for me. I had an appointment at a different groomer yesterday that charged FAR less & they were able to do exactly what I was looking for. Needless to say, I won't be returning. When I called I was able to get a same day appointment and had Foxy mama back within a few hours with her nails clipped how I like them and she smelled great!
