It's been quite some time since we've been clients of As the Fur Flies (cost savings of a DIY Dad Groomer), but with our newest addition to the family, an ever growing 6 month, 42 pound Goldendoodle, we weren't quite ready to tackle a new challenge. Our old groomers no longer seem to work here, but we still rave about the kindness and care the team showed our pups back in 2021. 2026: Our new pup arrived to us covered in mats so severe I had to trim some myself, leaving him a bit uneven. We scheduled a grooming session but didn't realize he would be receiving a "first-time puppy cut," which is different from a full grooming appointment. I completely understand the difference, but I wish I had been informed upfront, as I was expecting a full-body cut--especially at the price we paid. A month later, we tried a different groomer, Ivy, after seeing a Goldendoodle cut on their Instagram that we loved. She did an amazing job! As a reminder, per most pet grooming policies, all dogs must have up-to-date vaccines before their appointment. Additionally, there is now a late pickup fee if you arrive more than 30 minutes after your pet's session is completed. read more

She asked how I liked him cut and did exactly what I asked and more. Truly great work and the woman at the front desk was a gem. I've been following my groomer Jessica for years, from Midtown Board and Groom to Luxe Lodge in Spicewood (and that was A Drive!), so I was very happy to schedule an appointment at As the Fur Flies. First impressions. This shop is in a building that has seen better days -- I think it's been here at least as long as I've lived in Austin (40 years) -- and the whole shopping center could use a face lift. One of my first thoughts, and I realize this is just ridiculous on my part, was to avoid the oil spots on the asphalt after her bath. But then I reminded myself, the building and the parking lot have little bearing on what goes on inside. It's a no frills front desk operation, to be sure, but I peeked around back and it's super cute back there. There was a joyous reunion when April saw Jessica again, and as always, Jessica did an amazing job. I loved what another reviewer said: "Jessica is literally the doodle whisperer"! My baby Gizmo (Yorkie) is my world. He is spoiled beyond belief and if you hurt him I will come after you like a mad woman. If you do something he doesn't like, he will scream like you are killing him before growling and biting you. Since he is a Yorkie, he is also very stubborn and ornery, but he is my sweet Angel. Quick, kind, & well-done. That's all I need! Landen has groomed our small dog (wavy/curly/llasa type hair) twice and done a great job. We usually go fairly short (to stretch time between grooms), but Landen still combs out and styles Truman's face and tail! During Covid they have had an efficient drop off and pick up time system, texting 15 minutes before Truman is done within a 2 hour window. I like that they have a short window instead of the drop off/be done some time today system I've seen other places. Having Truman in and out in less time reduces his anxiety. Lastly, but certainly not least during this budget conscious time, this place is on par or cheaper than any other place I've gone in ATX. Truman is a small dog but needs a lot of hand grooming. Wasabi my poodle mix can grow some hair - meaning - he looks like a mop and can get mats especially around his ears and tail. we have gone to the same place for years after getting HORRIBLE cuts at PetSmart and petco (shaving isn't always the answer and if you're gonna do it, at least do it strategically!) I was a little frustrated looking for a new groomer in Austin. There are like 30 places though. One place said if you pick up your dog and it gets excited when it sees you and pees or poops - then you have to pay extra if you want that cleaned. What? They're dogs lol. Anyway my dog doesn't do this but I thought how odd that it's written in their rules. Needless to say I did not go there nor finish my registration. As the Fur Flies sends you a text (so convenient!) If they have availability and they were able to accept wasabi in a few days from my inquiry. They did an amazing job without butchering his hair. I love they way they did his paws. I hadn't realized that because Jessica certainly deserves them. Jessica is excellent and loving and compassionate with my senior adopted Charlie dog. He has several chronic problems that cause grooming him to be a huge job. Jessica does great, excellent, 5stars all the 4 times I've brought him. I brought my doodle in today for a grooming. What he actually got was SKINNED. I am horrified by the wounds your team left on him. The fact that your team did not say one thing about these is awful. When I arrived to pick River up the team, talked about how much his groomer loved him and what a great time he had and how good he was. For me to get home and he is clearly not ok because he was practically skinned alive, he is very solemn, when I sat down with him to cuddle, that's when he winced and I found the spots under his ears. This is absolutely disturbing, horrifying and downright terrible business - along with a slew of other things. Your team should not be allowed to work with dogs and I want to ensure that the individual that hurt River is never allowed to touch another dog again. No owner should have to see the pain in their dogs eyes when they have clearly been hurt. DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOGS HERE. read more

I felt comfortable from the moment I dropped my dog (Miniature Poodle) off. The staff were very friendly and I really felt that they were actually listening to me when I was describing how I wanted to have my dog cut - we went for the classic puppy it, requesting to keep his hair long on top, but short elsewhere. I left Lucky (my dog) for about an hour and a half and when I picked him up he looked EXACTLY like I wanted him too. He also seemed very happy and relaxed coming out of the grooming which is something I look out for. I can't say enough about how happy we are we took our little man here to get groomed. Before, a few years ago, we went to (Big name, but I'll be nice here and not mention it) a place where our Maltese was literally cut to the point of needing stitches during a groom. It traumatized the poor dog. Now, Charlie is 16, almost 17, and he is fragile due to his age. Marbella does an AMAZING job with him! He's no longer scared to be groomed. He's not anxious with her, he feels safe, and she makes sure to give him the senior comfort cuts he needs. I just switched groomers as we moved downtown and paid more than usual ($60) versus $45 up north. I gave them 2 stars instead of 1 because the dogs look great haircut wise but I just picked them up an hour ago and when I noticed one of my dogs sleeping I saw a huge cut on his inner arm. I Understand that sometimes that dogs get nicked but when I picked him up I was not told anything at all. I was asked to pay and nothing more. For the record this never happened at my previous groomers over the course of the past 9 months I've been with her. Paying more is one thing and don't mind paying more if it's better treatment in a nicer location but injuring my dog and not telling me is another. Accidents happen but at least own up to it. I am super disappointed as these dogs are my life. Very unprofessional on their end I won't be coming back and have attached a photo here for reference. read more

He's left us confused, heartbroken, and now struggling to find a new groomer in the next 3 weeks before our poodle is due for another cut. He never spoke to us at pick up, offered one more groom to give us some time, or even suggest another groomer at the same location. I understand him needing us to find another groomer, but his excuse about his schedule and the manner in which he handled this were upsetting to say the least. *Edit for owners response* What I needed: A face to face conversation and some warning to find a new groomer. What I got: A sassy, unprofessional response lacking empathy and basic reading comprehension. "He also would've happily spoken to you at pickup, but it was very obvious that it wouldn't have been a productive conversation." That is quite literally the only thing that was needed to have avoided this whole situation. It was never offered, and apparent not desired, as Gavyn avoided us at pick up instead of bringing our dog out like he did every other time. I'm usually pretty laid back when it comes to beauty services for me like hair, nails, etc.. but when it comes to my dogs, I'm super picky because they've had far too many disastrous haircuts. This was my first time taking them here, and I was a little apprehensive. But they took the time to listen to exactly what I wanted done and repeated back to me what I wanted.. they even told me to text them pictures. They delivered EXACTLY what I asked for. And they were finished really quickly so my dogs didn't have to stay in the kennel for long!! (Like less than two hours for two dogs!) The price was incredibly reasonable too. I will be bringing my girls back every time they need a spa sat TLDR: happy owner, happy dogs, great price, great customer service. Update 7/2020: after the whole corona shutdown, ATFF was closed, they finally reopened and my girls were able to get back in! They were super shaggy.. they have an AMAZING process to keep safe and distant. You come in, put your animal in the crate, take all of their collars/leashes etc. and then leave. That way you and the staff don't have to get close to each other. Then when you pick up, your pet is in the kennel waiting for you and they send you an invoice via email which you can pay with card or google pay. No contact at all! I'm a bit of a worrywart so this process is awesome. And of course my girls look perfect! I love this place! read more

We took our corgi here and he had anxiety and couldn't be groomed. They convinced us to pay $350 for a "Table Training" where we bring him back weekly and he progressively learns to trust the groomer. He seemed to improve (according to the groomer). After this, we booked an appointment to have him groomed. My girlfriend put the grooming instructions in the notes. I brought him in, told the lady we wanted a full body trim, his butt shaped, sanitary groom, and his nails trimmed. When my girlfriend picked him up he was SHAVED. They shaved a corgi. CORGIS HAVE DOUBLE COATS. YOU DO NOT SHAVE CORGIS. I never spoke the word "shave" and they convinced my girlfriend that it was my fault and charged us $108. It will take months for his coat to grow back and we're praying it comes back properly. I cannot believe they scammed us out of $350 for training and then the woman who did all of the trainings isnt the one who groomed him. Some new girl did it, and she didn't even care to listen to my girlfriend's complaints. She left before they charged us $108 for shaving my dog. Any groomer would know that you cannot do this under any circumstances - and there's plenty of reputable groomers in Austin. If you absolutely have to go here, make sure you give detailed instructions. Maybe even write them down so they can't lie after they've f***ed up. read more
