So, TLDR is that I had a specific situation with my cat, Fuu, and fleas/sensitive skin. I was very unsure about approaching a grooming service for help. Fuu had never been to one, and never needed one until now. I wish I caught the name of the lady whom I got to speak with, but she spoke with me for about 10 minutes asking seemingly all the right questions. She seemed to both care and understand Fuu's situation and my desire to make the right choice. I'm sure this is a great place for dogs, and the people working there are quite nice, but I feel ripped off. I brought in my cat, who is a 20lb Maine Coon mix and he immediately freaked out at the idea of a bath, and he hissed for the first time in his life that I can recall. That's understandable though, and they still took some special tool to him which yanked out quite a bit of his undercoat. At least that got accomplished. All in all I was there for literally 15 minutes, and when she told me it was $54 I somehow managed not to let my jaw drop. Groomers in this town make $200+ an hour now? $54 got me a brushing, and thats it. I could've bought the professional tool and done it myself for less than that. I could understand that being the price if a shampoo and nail trim were included, but not this. They get two stars, not one, only because they managed to put up with a very angry, very large cat. My Dogs are my kiddos and I Love them more than anything so when i got home from getting my Shih Tzu groomed and discovered he had a big cut under his arm I was so pissedoff. First of all they didnt even tell me and apologize and i know that he must of cried out in pain because were not talking about a small scratch here, it was huge. If they didnt over book so much maybe they would not of been in such a hurry and would not of hurt my baby. They charge so much its insane. I really feel that they need to slow down and not be so money hungry and stop overbooking and think about the pets safety and not how many dogs they can groom in one day... I scheduled my geriatric, pre-diabetic kitty for his first grooming, he's getting older now and lazy with cleaning himself, he had mats around his anus and it wasn't pretty. Sadly, he was too anxious and they couldn't get him out of the carrier, but they wanted to at least help with the mats so with my help they got him out and had me hold him while they trimmed and cleaned that area, and refused to charge me! All while being so sweet, informative, and helpful. I have asked my vet for a prescription for some anti anxiety meds for him (per plush pad's recommendation), and will be re-scheduling for a full grooming as soon as I get them! I could already tell in the 5 minutes I spent in there they really care about animals and they did a great job with the trim even though he was squirming and trying to escape the whole time. I would add before and after pics but I don't think anyone wants to see that haha. read more

We were adopted by a long-haired solid white cat, who we have grown to love oh so much. When we first found him, he was more brown in color and had matted fur all over coat -- it took forever to get him cleaned up and the matts cut out. Over time, no matter how much I would brush him, his hair would start to get matted again. Our vet recommended we have him shaved, which sounded crazy to me, but he promised the cat would appreciate it. This led us to Plush Pad. The first call I made to learn more about their services told me a lot. They were patient, took their time to discuss their grooming packages with me and re-assured me that they would be gentle with him. We discussed how we wanted him groomed and they were great about giving us input to help me decide. The gave our cat a 'lion cut' and trimmed his nails. We opted out of any bathing. When we came to pick him up, I was a little worried about what he might look like, but he looked amazing and was not traumatized at all. The job they did was extremely professional and they even put a little catnip mouse in the carrier as a treat. If you are looking for a groomer who is going to treat your furry family member with care and do a great job in the process, then I cannot say enough good things about Plush Pad. read more

Terrible. They cut my dog, and I don't mean a little knick, I mean a huge cut - and didn't even tell me about it!!!! I discovered it once I got him home. :( I wouldn't have had an issue with it if perhaps someone would have called and informed me of it when it happened or once I arrived to pick him up. I had a pretty disappointing experience here. I'm sure others have been very satisfied by Plush Pad, but I will not bring my cat back here. My cat is pretty high maintenance and get's over stimulated quite easily. Ergo, she does not enjoy being groomed. Obviously the solution is to bring her to a professional groomer with many years of experience. I dropped off my cat and got a call 30 minutes later that she was ready. I was then told by the groomer that my cat required "three people" to hold her down so that she could be shaved, and that she absolutely needed to be tranquilized the next time she is groomed. She then told me that she would only see my cat again if I couldn't find anywhere else to take her. How's that for customer service? On the one hand, their prices are fair and my cat's lion cut looks really good. But the bad experience far outweighs everything else for me. My cat got nicked a couple times, and the groomer and her staff seemed far more concerned with getting my cat done and out the door quickly rather than giving her the comfort and attention she needed. I was extremely upset that a groomer with so many years of experience had the gall to tell me my cat needed to be tranquilized. I will happily take my cat and my money elsewhere. read more

I am very disappointed with the poor job this place did to my 2 year old rag doll cat. I came in early (thinking I'd have him back within a few hours) and dropped him off. I was very clear of the type of cut I wanted. After the woman showed me pictures of standard lion cuts, I told her I do not want this and showed her a picture of an even cut he has had prior. I left and waited ALL DAY to hear back if he was done. 8 hours later, I show up and find that she's shaved him other than his feet and he looked ridiculous! On top of that, it was over $100 dollars for a shave and wash. That's ridiculous! When I took him home, he was very itchy and started losing hair patches around his neck. I had to treat him for a week and now it's finally growing back. I'll never return here again. read more

Do you know how hard it is to find someone to groom cats? REALLY HARD. I have long-haired cat that sometimes matt, and I opt to have their hair cut down a few times a year. Everyone who works there is very friendly and helpful, my pets always come out looking great, and I don't even mind the cost considering it takes them three people to do parts of one of my cat because he's kind of a jerk. Wandered in here today after a not-so-satisfying lunch at Jimmy John's next door. I was intrigued by the well-groomed dogs I saw coming out of the place and I'd noticed a sign that said that they groom cats as well... I just had to ask. No one was at the counter when we walked in, so we had a couple minutes to look at the plethora of (mostly dog) toys, collars/leashes, treats, assorted brushes, and whatnots. Those two minutes were the only time we really had to peruse the store, as an employee came to the counter and was very chatty. I asked about cat grooming and the furminator. He explained in GREAT detail that the furminator isn't for every pet, the tools they use on each animal are specific to the type of fur they're dealing with. I'd never thought of that before! Cat grooming is usually around $65 here, which is complete with undercoat removal, anal gland drainage, three shampoos, and ear cleaning. I don't know how that compares to other places. The Plush Pad has a wide variety of carriers, a lot of which I wish I'd have discovered before I brought my cats on a plane... seems like several of them would've been acceptable carry on items, and were much more attractive than the "duffle bag" ones I used. There's also all sorts of ridiculous outerwear for the animals. I think the most amusing, to me (and they're on sale!) were the kimonos. Cute, but a little over the top, don't you think? This was the first time I used Plush Pad for grooming. I have a 12 yr old Scottie that had only been groomed by 1 person - he retired. They (PP) were recommended by a friend. They were so professional and so personal at the same time. Having some health issues of my own, I was pleased to see them practicing social distancing and safe procedures. I had my large fluffy cat shaved here at the start of summer. I called and they were able to fit us in the next day. I dropped kitty off at 8am and picked him up that afternoon around 3 or 4. He was all kinds of freaked out, which is what I expected. He's an inside only cat and doesn't like to be picked up, not even by me. Brave ladies working there! They did a great job giving him a lion cut. He has only one spot close to a nipple where it looked like the clippers got a little too close and maybe pinched the skin a bit, but I think it's understandable considering he is a cat and was, in their words, "a little resistant". The shave cost me about $85 I think, which I was money well spent. Trying to shave him myself is a nightmare and I can't make him look as utterly ridiculous. That lion cut, man! I have been taking my dogs to Plush Pad for over 4 years, and they always do an excellent, professional job. I recently acquired a new cat, Ellen, who has a very thick and heavy fur coat. I developed allergies to Ellen in the form of red, inflammed eyes. I talked to Sandra Tash (the owner and a pet groomer) about bathing Ellen to help relieve the allergies. Sandra informed me that bathing would not solve the allergy problem, and suggested shaving Ellen's thick fur coat, instead. People get allergic reactions to the DANDER in the cat's fur and to the cat's saliva. Sandra also told me I would have to tranquilize Ellen, especially since she has never been bathed or shaved. I acquired tranquilizer pills from my vet for a reasonable $15, and gave one to Ellen 2 hours before her grooming appointment. I was amazed to see how incredibly beautiful Ellen looked after the shave. Sandra Tash did an excellent job with her, and she now looks sleek and elegant, and I can see all the beautiful colors in her tortie coat. Ellen had no negative effects from the tranquilizer or from the shave. She was calm and happy after the experience. There are several positive sides to this cat shave. 1) Ellen will not be shedding as much cat hair around my house. 2) Ellen will not have to suffer through our incredibly hot Austin summer with a thick, heavy fur coat. 3) My allergic reaction to Ellen is not completely gone, but it has subsided considerably. 4) Ellen seems happier than she has ever been in her life. With tax, the cat shave, bath and nail trim came to $81.00, which I thought was reasonable for all the good work. I have always trusted the people at Plush Pad to do a good job with my pets. You know you're walking into a good place, when other customers are asking if you've been before, and then rave about how great they are, and how they've been bringing their fur children for over a decade. Unlike my least favorite groomer of Austin (will remain unnamed for this review), Sandra actually talked to me about my kitty. She told me why she doesn't like claw caps, but said she would do it for me if I provided them. I could hear her comforting my feisty, long-haired calico, Cookie, as she was trimming her up. Cookie went in for a nail trim, a trim on her back side, and even got the little tufts of fur that grow from her paw pads trimmed up. The last groomer I went to, I asked about the tufts of fur on her paws and they told me that they're fine. Clearly, I'm asking about getting them trimmed - so I wanted them trimmed. Litter gets caught in them. 1) That's not great for my cat to be eating clay litter. 2) I don't want litter all over my apartment that she's leaving behind! Her sprinting out of her litter box makes a bad enough mess. The unnamed horrible place, also didn't even ask for my name or my cat's, took the carrier out of my hands, and took her in a room and just started trimming her nails. Never really talked to me, or asked what I wanted. Then gave her back to me in the carrier. Sandra actually showed me my little furball and made sure I was okay with the fur length before putting her back in her carrier. Even gave my baby girl a little kiss before sending her home. Cookie didn't seem to mind at all and she HATES new people! All in all, I would say definitely give Sandra and Plush Pad an open conversation and have open ears and mind. She definitely swayed me on the claw caps with a pretty vivid example. And, she was amazing with my cat! Our last grooming trip, Cookie was in a 'mood' all day. This time, we got home and she was just the happiest little kitty. You could tell she just plain felt better. Call them! And, if for some reason, you regret it, I bet if you talk to them they'll give you a pretty reasonable response and work with you to get the best care for your furry friend :) read more

My dog loves coming here and leaves with a great cut that grows out well. There are never any odd hanks of fur sticking out a week or two after his cut. The humans are wonderful and take the time consult and advise on the type of cut, taking into account the season and weather. I had used Plush Pad a couple of times before and was just ok with them but knowing the stress of finding another groomer it was not something that I wanted to do. I took him in this past Tuesday of course he was shaking which is usual for him. They have a new thing that you can do...bring your dog in at 10 and they can have your pet done in 2/3 hours instead of spending the day in a cage. I did that but the express job (10 dollars extra) seemed to be more of a speed contest than a special service. The hair cut was not what I wanted nor were the nick's on his underside. When I picked him up he was acting very strange as if he was afraid of everything including me. I got him home and he began hiding under furniture and wouldn't eat of drink water for two days. I put him in his Thunder Jacket which I used for stressful times it seemed to help. Today is Saturday and he is still in the Thunder Jacket and still taking care of nick's by licking all the time. I put some I put some burn lotion on what I could see. Needless to say I will go through the stress of finding another place to take him and will not return to PP. This is not to say that the people there (that I have dealt with) weren't very nice..they were but .........My baby needed more than what whoever worked on him had to offer. read more
