$400 to groom 3 dogs?!? I was paying around $85 each for my three dogs to get groomed. But after a year of using the same groomer, she left and now the new groomers charge $120 for mini goldendoodles! And it was a summer cut, so they literally just shaved them down. You'd think they'd tell me about a $35 a dog price increase, but nope. Nothing. Added over $100 more I wasn't expecting! Well now they've lost a customer. Best self service dog wash around. I love how fast it is, staff is helpful. They have everything you need here. First of all, when you arrive, you get an apron to wear to keep your clothing dry. Then, you get a ramp to put your dog in his private tub. Alternately, you can put him/her in yourself. Then, you take collar and leash off and clip the dog to a short chain to prevent them from jumping out and harming themselves. My chow does not love being bathed, but he tolerates this whole process well. Now that your pup is settled, you will see the sprayer and plentiful containers of shampoo and conditioner, plus lots of specialty brushes and combs right there for when you need them. There is even ear cleaner, perfume spray and then some other specialty disks and conditioners available for a small charge. I like the blueberry facial that removes stains from the face of a lighter colored dog. There is a skunk spray remover which I've only had to use once, thankfully, but it did work. After the bath, you will find lots of clean towels to start the drying process, then your own blow dryer right there, which is a high speed commercial dryer, not really a hair dryer. My dog is extra fluffy, so this is a huge plus to be able to blow him with this type of dryer. I feel a bit bad that we leave so much hair there behind us, but I guess it is a huge benefit of the service that allows you to wash your dog away from home. You also avoid the high prices of the groomer. My older but can't stand the groomer, so Dirty Dig has become my go to bath stop for him. They offer nail clipping services as well, and I can hold them while it is done, so he remains calm. They did clip the nails but little else was done and my guy did not have the clean dog smell that helps justify taking my buddy to the groomers.. Living in central Austin, the bathroom is just too cramped and even though the kitchen sink is an option my partner says it isn't sanitary so it's extremely comforting to know I can just take a quick hop in the car with my Stella and give her a bath at Dirty Dog. This place has several self service dog baths that are just the right height so you don't have to break your back. They give you shampoo, conditioner, and even an ear wash for your pup. There are several towels to dry your pup and an extremely powerful dryer. I choose the low setting to dry my pup- I can only imagine what the high setting would do. To keep dry they even suit you with disposable aprons. As for the price, it is a little pricey around 19$ for a 15lb dog. Well worth the convenience and I don't have to clean up too. They cut shorter than I asked, and the cut is REALLY uneven around his head and paws. But this picture is why I had to come on Yelp and warn people to STAY AWAY FROM DIRTY DOG! When I got home I found this bloody gash on his underside. I think buzzers got pressed up and sliced him good. No mention of this when we picked him up either. Very dishonest! I've been a dirty-dog customer since Blair first opened on South First in 2004, but ended my relationship after an awful experience today. I arrived for my 8:00 am grooming appointment around 8:25.  After ringing the doorbell twice and waiting 2-3 minutes, an employee opened the door, wearing over-the-ear headphones around his shoulders.  He told me that, because I was late, he would need to ask the groomer if he/she still would accept my dog.  He came back and told me that the groomer would still take my dog, but would charge me $1 for each minute after the first 5 minutes as a late fee. I was frankly shocked to hear this.  I have never been advised that there is a late fee. I have always tried to arrive on time, but sometimes have been a few minutes late.  I've never been charged a fee when arriving late. I've also arrived on time and in some cases I have had to wait for dirty dog employees who were late themselves. Things happen. This practice is also inconsistent with dirty dog's own stated terms on its website. Their terms of service state that they will hold an appointment for 15 minutes and may release the appointment after that point.  For no-shows, the terms provide that they may charge a fee for the next appointment. Nothing about a $1 per minute fee for arriving more than 5 minutes late. I do note that your terms provide that, if a customer arrives after your 6 pm closing time, you will charge $1 per minute after 6.  But that is entirely different than what they attempted to do this morning. While I've been loyal customers for 18 years, I fundamentally disagree with the way they now conduct business.  So I will find a new place to wash and groom my dogs. read more

Pick up was to be at 3 ish after a notification text. I never received a text so I called at 4:15 and they said to come at 4:45. (Drop off was at 10). This put me late getting out of town so I paid, tipped, and rushed out. They did not wash him, he smelled the same and his after shave hairs were all over the seat. He had a cut/gash under his eye that bled all weekend. No one ever told me of any problems he had, and when I emailed management I got no response. Self-service dog washes are so helpful if you like to take your dog out to run around in the dirt and water. Or if your pooch is just in need of a bath and you don't want to deal with the furry mess afterwards. Once you walk in, you're greeted and directed to one of the stations. I think there were something like 4 or 5 stations total. You have the option of carrying your dog into the tub or they have a set of steps that can be rolled over to the station so your dog can climb up and into it. The person who helped us was really friendly and gave us some tips on what brushes to use (Zoom Groom FTW). She also handed us aprons and told us to use as many towels as we need. We bring our own shampoo, but they do have a standard shampoo, ear rinse, and cotton pads. There are also premium shampoos if you want your dog to smell a certain way for an additional fee. Each station has a dryer, but our dog is afraid of the noise... and the air, so we never get to use it for more than a few seconds before he starts crying. Good thing their towels are well stocked. Our dog is about 25 lbs, so self service came out to $15, which is pretty much the expected price for most dog-washes I've seen. What a great alternative to fighting my dog in the bathtub! I brought my own shampoo and conditioner but I also used a little of the provided shampoo and it left my puppy smelling so good! The price isn't terribly expensive (if you have a big dog) and I think it's worth it with the elevated tub, leash/collar dog holder, water spray handle, and dryer. They also provide a lot of small towels and a variety of hair brushes. I did get a bunch of water out of the tub and my flip flops were all wet in the end but they do say "leave the mess to us"! Thank goodness they also provide aprons or else more than just my feet would have left wet. I usually get a ton of scratches when I wash my dog in the bathtub so this self-wash dog station was great! read more

My dog is the most beautiful in all the land and I used to be so nervous that a groomer would butcher her majestic coat. After a few cuts by Mallory, my worries subsided. She always did such a great job. Even my boyfriend would comment on her perfectly contoured cut. But perhaps the biggest compliment - Moki isn't even that scared when she gets there anymore! You know something great is happening when your dog will walk through the door without being dragged by the leash. I have recently moved south so I will be trying out the South Lamar location (sorry Mallory!) but they have a lot to live up to! Who knows - I might end up making the trek back :) read more

This place has to be the worst dog wash here in the entire Austin area. The employees are so full of themselves. I popped in at 11:47am for a self serve dog wash, a task that requires no involvement by the staff at all, and this pretty dumb blondish hair brunette says "we don't open till 12pm". I politely respond y'all don't open at 10am?? She says "no" and continues her conversation behind locked doors with what appears to be her mom (another tunnel vision looking Karen). If you don't want customers to stop by, then just close the place down. And update y'all's fucking website and sign outside your window that clearly says "SELF SERVE EVERYDAY 10am-6pm". This place is so pathetic. I'd rather have my dog washed in Lady Bird Lake with zebra mussels and blue algae before ever returning to this hole in the wall boutique. read more

These guys are amazing. I took my fur baby there to get all clean today and told the staff that she has separation anxiety and she hates baths. Chance took care of her and made sure she was comfy with plenty of treats, patience, and love. She waited until Ginger was comfortable with something before continuing with that task and made sure Ginger felt safe. She even gave Ginger a safe spot on a bed in the bathroom because she was scared of the other dogs barking!! Chance was amazing and I'll be asking for her every time I get my baby groomed from now on. I love this business because every time they've treated my baby like she was their own. They genuinely love the dogs and their job, that's evident by how good they do and their amazing treatment of the dogs. I would give more stars if I could. read more

I took my cockerspaniel to Dirty Dog on Guadalupe for grooming because my regular groomer was unavailable. It was without a doubt the worst grooming that this poor dog has every had. I have a lab mix who barely even sheds and a pit bull, so "full service grooming" isn't really a "thing" in my world. That said, my lab HATED nail trims, so much that I was perfectly happy to pay someone else to do it. The first time I went in to Dirty Dog, Heather was very kind and asked about my dog's reactions to nail trimming and if I thought he might do better with dremeling. She then spent at least 30 minutes making friends with him and getting him used to the dremel before actually dremeling his nails slowly and gently, giving him treats the entire time. The next time I went in, Heather did the same thing and this time she also gave me tons of tips & tricks for dremmeling his nails at home. Her tips worked so well that I now dremmel my dogs' nails regularly with minimal stress to any of us, and we don't get to go see Heather at Dirty Dog. I have been going to Dirty Dog for years. The cuts were never great, but it was convenient and the staff were friendly. That has changed. Their website is a mess and no one answers if you call, nor do they return phone calls. The first time I tried to book an appointment, I got an error on the website, so tried calling. No response. A week later I tried their website again and this time I could book. It gives you the option to put in a date preference, but not time preference. Then they just text you and tell you it's confirmed and give you a time. What if that time doesn't work? No way to change it. So I'm stuck with an inconvenient time. I go to drop the dogs off - running about 20 minutes late. I'm almost there and I get a text saying they canceled the appointment. They apparently have a 15 minute grace period, yet no one called to see if we were on our way. Because of the bad booking system, I have dropped them off late many times, but in the past they called. I called them and they told me tough luck and pointed out that I had agreed to their release that states the 15 minute policy. I go back to their website. There is NOTHING on the booking form about a 15 minute policy. I click on the release (who even reads these? They are for legal mumbo jumbo, not policies) and ... shocker ... 404 message. I can't even read it. Also, I groomed my dogs myself for some of the pandemic. The dogs hated it and it stressed me out. When I finally returned the dogs were looking a bit shaggy in areas (like their tails - they didn't want me touching their tails). Rather than empathizing, the groomer shamed me! read more

This place is AMAZING. My babies just went here for Full Service Grooming. My corgi received a furminator bath, nail trim, and facial. My mix received a haircut, nail trim and facial. Both left looking absolutely adorable! The corgi even had a little bow on her head. More importantly, they were happy and not a bit traumatized. You can tell these people know and care about dogs. While this location is right on the drag, parking at the back of the building is convenient along with the back door entrance. There are plenty of stalls available for dogwashing and they supply the soap, scrubbies, perfume, towels, ear thingies, a variety of combs and (my favorite) the industrial blowdryer. So she wasn't so keen on the idea of going to a place called "Dirty Dog" although she warmed up a little when I explained that it isn't a K-9 version of Sugars. We've been twice and I think we agree that we'd give it 3.5 stars (if we could). The people are nice and overall do a decent job but I agree with Kat M... Lucy didn't seem to be cleaned or groomed super well... she had fleas when she got home (they didn't mention that) and she had marble-sized hairy knots behind both ears, which they didn't find. Also, they gave her the "lion cut" but it is really uneven... looks like Freddy Kreuger had a few beers then groomed Lucy with a dull chainsaw. My sweet grandbaby girl had her nails trimmed here on a recent visit to Grand Mom's house. The Kid was in town and she goes where he goes. I was allowed an outing with "Arya" and we ended up at this Dirty Dog Wash thanks to Candice who actually works at the Mesa location. Let me just say that The Kid has many good qualities but nail trimming is not one of them. His or his dog's. We popped into Dirty Dog after Candice secured us an appointment. Five minutes and $10 later, Arya had her toenails trimmed by a gentle young man with fast clippers. On the way home, we celebrated by stopping at Starbucks for a Chai Latte for me, and a cup of water and a dog treat for her. Life does not get any better than this. read more

FYI: This location of Dirty Dog is now on Guadalupe. For about a year, I took my lab mix to Dirty Dog every time we were already out and she was covered in mud from playing in the park or smelled like fish because she fell in the koi pond at Zilker (true story). The staff has always been helpful and I like not having to worry about drying her with towels because they have the super-powered, just-right-temperature doggie hair dryers. Unfortunately all of the staffers I met at the North Lamar location seem to have disappeared. A few months ago I adopted dog #2, the first long haired dog I've ever had. He overheats easily (shocking, I know, because the Austin summers are so pleasant) so I thought I'd take him in for a summer trim. Now, picture this. Dog #2 is a mutt but his coat is big and fluffy like a chow's. I asked the Dirty Dog staff to give him a summer clip, and the girl clarified that I wanted him to be shaved. I said no, not shaved, but a pretty substantial trim. "Like a lab, you mean?" No, not quite that short, I explained. (He is supposed to be fluffy, but I don't want him to be miserable!) Keep his ears and tail long but blend them into the shorter hair. There were some other communication issues in booking the appointment, so I should have known what was going to happen. My dog is SHAVED. The hair on top of his head is longer than the hair on his body. His coat is much shorter than Dog #1- the lab mix. What happened to "no, not as short as a lab's"?! Not such a big deal, you might think. It's summer, after all, and hair grows back, and it's not like he's a show dog or some nonsense. But his hair is so short you can see his skin- hello sunburn. His tail is untouched; his ears were trimmed, but you can see a line on his neck, at the base of his tail, and near his paws where the groomer stopped shaving (what happened to blending?). I called Dirty Dog to explain my disappointment about the cut and a few other issues I won't even bother getting into, and the girl on the phone (not the girl who took my instructions, not the girl who took Dog #2 back to the grooming room, not the girl who brought him out, and not the girl who rang me up), and she was very apologetic. She offered to have me drop him off the next day for a free wash, but I didn't want to put him through another stressful day. So she insisted that she would have her owner-manager call me the next day. The next day, I received a voicemail from a Dirty Dog staff member- apparently the one who actually groomed him, not the owner-manager- who told me she "was told she had to call [me] and apologize" and proceeded to tell me that it was my fault and that next time I should tell her how to groom him better. Well, Dirty Dog, there will be NO next time. I will never even use your convenient self-serve bathing options again. Your grooming was way overpriced, the cut was nowhere near what I'd asked for, and your workers are rude. If only they'd introduced themselves to me, I could name names. I can't even give two stars for the few good times we had together. I trusted you because you support Blue Dog Rescue, an awesome rescue organization which has given me two precious pups, but you've lost me (and every one of my dog-owning friends) for good. read more

I love these people! I take my boy (see pic) there for their full-service furminator treatment once a month. (The price'll vary depending on how bad his shedding is, but it stays pretty solidly in the $50-60 price range.) Why I can't live without it: 1. He comes back feeling and smelling AMAZING! The fur shed is gone. They even dress him up in a little scarf-dealie. LOVE THAT NOISE. 2. For the quality of service, their price is unbeatable. I used the Petsmart furminator service before Dirty Dog, and they charged about $25 more. And no scarf. Bleh. 3. THEY KNOW HIM. They know that my stoic lil guy becomes a howling basket case for hours on end when I leave him. They know I may drop off the face of the earth for hours on end when they call me to let me know he's done. They know his undercoat is epically thick and hard to work with. And yet ... they still let us walk in the door. They don't bar us from coming in. And they talk him up like he's a dream when I come in for him. (Did I mention the howling?) That they bother to do all that every time I come in is kind of awesome. If Dirty Dog were a boyfriend, I'd put a ring on that. read more

She's also 50 lbs, so washing her in our tub is out of the question. Dirty Dog is the solution we have been looking for. A self-service dog wash. Brilliant! It's cheaper than paying to have her groomed. We bring her in and we lift her into one their tubs. They have everything we need. The water hose, aprons, shampoo (flea, oatmeal, lavender, etc), conditioner, towels, blow dryer, treats! Its definitely some fun family bonding time after she has been rolling around in the dirt out at the dog park. It was worth the drive up to North Lamar, but now that they have the South First location open, it's even more convenient. read more

Dirty Dog has exceeded all my expectations! Five Stars --- for sure! My cocker spaniel, Kyoshi, needs to be groomed often! I tried several dog groomers in Austin but I was never satisfied. Finally, I stumbled across Dirty Dog a few years ago while driving down North Lamar and I had a dog washing experience like no other! In regards to the self-serve, I will never wash my dog at home again! The standup tubs are so convenient and comfortable that I actually enjoy washing her (although I know she HATES it.) The self-serve prices are based on the size of your dog. Since Kyoshi is 29 lbs, I pay $12 which includes shampoo, conditioner, nail clippers, ear cleaner, towels and a blowdryer - that will not scare your dog half to death. The grooming service is excellent as well and the staff is extremely friendly. I always feel comfortable leaving my dog there. Dirty Dog recently opened a south location which I am SUPER thankful for...since I recently moved from central Austin to 78704! Take your dirty dog there! I just took my beagle here a few days ago. The atmosphere is really relaxed. When I was there it was totally empty, with just one employee. The self washing area was nice. Although I would probably never pay to wash my dogs there, as they are both beagles and have easy fur to deal with. So, why did I bring my dog here, if I would never wash him here? Because for $11, they will deal with some very unpleasant glands in rear area of my dog. If you've ever dealt with it, you know what I'm talking about. If you don't know, your lucky. We washed our dogs at home for years before we tried dirty dog (the DIY option). It keeps us from having to either trash our bathroom, or succumb to the fact that after we clean our dogs, they will race and roll around the yard and make themselves, well, dirty all over again. Plus, they smell good for a week, which is something we never accomplish on our own. DD is pretty straightforward, yet brilliant: a giant utility tub, a waterproof apron, a warm hose with a high pressure (not too high) industrial dishwasher nozzle, non-viscous products ( in restaurant catsup bottles...great idea), a scrubbie or two, and of course, the absolute necessity: dog anchors. Anyone who washes their dogs knows that dog anchors are a key component to keeping your person from being dragged across the neighborhood with a writhing ball of foam. And for $25 for my two dogs under 25 lb, it can't be beat. The groomer would cost us twice that. I do wish they would heat the dryers. Its pretty obvious these are vacuum cleaners turned on reverse, and, as much as both my dogs I take here hate the washing, they hate the dryer even more. Also, the price is right, but a furminator per stall would be killer. We have never had our dogs fully groomed there so I can't speak to the grooming. read more

I do not typically give my dog a bath, but when he rolls around in poop so as to instinctively "mask his scent"--as the old wolves used to do--I know it about that time for a new wash. Kind of like you never know when to get a haircut until your hair magically looks too long. Sort of like a built-in timer. Dirty Dog boasts no new concepts in terms of dog washing, whether it be self-service or full-on grooming procedures. What they do offer are nice amenities for self-washing including brush, stairs, aprons, unlimited towels, a sturdy chain, and the like. Additionally, the service--though I washed my own canine--hits the spot. They opened up 15 minutes early for me, so as to allow me to rinse off the poop particles and fecal smell perfuming my dog. I had a great first experience today at Dirty Dog's self-serve dog wash on Guadalupe. My Sheltie has more hair than the 50-year-old plumbing at my condo can handle and I don't have a yard, so washing at home is just not an option. But I also don't want to pay for a full-grooming session when my dog just smells like a dog. I'm so glad there's a place in Austin where I can do the washing myself! We were the only people there this Sunday afternoon around 2 pm, which was perfect--no wait! Right away the attendant pointed out waterproof-aprons, bath tools (a 2-in-1 tearless shampoo/conditioner, post-bath "cologne," ear wash (and cotton balls), and a little scrub tool to work up a lather), and a cabinet full of brushes and grooming tools. They've got steps to wheel up to the tub if you can't lift your dog in, a tether to keep them safely in the tub, a great blow dryer with coolish/warmish air, and plenty of clean towels. I'd brought my own brushes, shampoo, etc., just in case, but the only thing I needed that they didn't provide was my trusty spray bottle of detangler--oh, Shelties! The water was cooler at first than I expected, but I figured my dog wouldn't mind on a hot summer day. It did warm up a bit, so if it's cooler outside you might want to give it a minute or two. Everything was clean and neat. My dog is so, so soft and shiny now, and thanks to the cologne (which Iscoffed at initially) he smells amazing. I can hardly stop cuddling him because the softness kills me, but it's awkward because he hasn't forgiven me yet for the bath. And it was so nice to leave the mess there! "Woof....My person gladly takes me to Dirty Dog on a semi-regular basis for a shave. Since I have a really thick coat, I swelter in the summer heat. When I'm getting a shave at DD, I hate it at first - I'm a rather Nervous Nelly. But, my person takes time and isn't rushed at all. The workers at DD are nice and talk really sweet to me and all the other dirty dogs. The cool thing is, when I'm done with my new do, we just walk out! I don't have to hang around for my person to clean up - and believe me, I leave quite a mound of fur covering the floor. The only growl I have, is sometimes the electric razors are dull and it takes a little longer than usual. But, the nice workers at DD, gave my person a break on paying when she barked at them about it. I'm getting old too, so there are these cool stairs on wheels to roll up to the table and washtubs, so I can easily walk up....Woof" read more

This place is a great DIY dog wash spot. I bring my stinky mutt there since the shower in my condo is small and a pain (literally) to wash him in, and I don't always feel like paying 50+ bucks for grooming when he really just needs a bath. The system is easy and the shampoo makes him smell like a rose. I appreciate the industrial blow dryer so he doesn't have to leave soggy. Thanks Dirty Dog! We'll be back. read more

I was adopted by my lab mix a couple of years ago. She was extremely dirty and poor girl was very smelly. I took her to Dirty Dog every other week until the smelly was washed away finally. Although I think it a tad expensive, they did a great job. I love the self serve dog wash stations. With the amount of hair she sheds, I hate trying to wash her at home. read more

This was my first time getting Einstein (my old man looking Yorkie) groomed. I brought him here to get the full grooming service, so I don't know much about the self-serve part. They did a fabulous job with the cut and since I brought him first thing in the morning (9:30AM) they had him returned around noon. All of the employees were extremely polite!! I felt really comfortable leaving him there. Probably going back to get a self-serve or even groomed in a few months!! read more
