Food is good- basic but similar to home cooking. Ambiance does not change often but we always enjoy. The costs are reasonable staff are friendly and after a few visit's they know your orders. Guests are usually older- so you feel young. That in itself is fun as my grays are now present. read more

I was invited to this place by my sister in law after a special event to celebrate. This was my first time at this restaurant apart of a group of 12. We were all seated at a large round table but, there was not enough room for us to fit at the table comfortably. The food is bland and terrible all at the same time. This restaurant is definitely for the much much much older crowd. The decor looks like a nursing home dining room. Food came out lukewarm. Parking is open and accessible outside of the restaurant. Stop all the comments about too many old people eating there . With age comes EXPERIENCE and KNOWLEDGE. Ate there last night with my wife and my brother. We got the stuffed lobster and the fillet ( medium rare) paired with the crab cake . Both come with a side at no extra charge. Good place to have dinner and conversations. Met four friends for a Friday lunch at The Peppermill and it did not disappoint. We were seated at our reservation time and were promptly greeted by Connie. I enjoyed the Salmon Cake for $15.50 that came with one side, a baked potato. It was pretty good and filling. We surprised one of our party with a birthday dessert which Connie brought with a candle. Connie also took our photos which we appreciated. Great service today and good food here at The Peppermill. It does get crowded, even on a Friday at noon. Easy to make a reservation though and the ambiance is pleasant. A nice relaxed casual setting. read more

Our friends had arrived before us and were already seated when we arrived at the Peppermill for lunch. I was surprised that the waitress did not bother to introduce herself when she came to the table to ask us what we would like to drink. She returned later to take our order. I ordered a cup of the Cream of Crab soup with sherry on the side and a Turkey Club sandwich which I explained that my husband and I would split. My husband also ordered a cup of the Cream of Crab soup, and I said he would like the sherry as well. When she brought the soup, she only brought one sherry, I had to ask her to bring one for my husband. We were both disappointed in the soup. Normally, it is a thick soup with lots of lump crab meat - this soup was very thin, and it had less than the normal amount of lump crab meat. It was very nice that the kitchen split the Turkey Club and gave us each half with a bag of chips. Our friends ordered the French Dip and the Bourbon Salmon, which they enjoyed. Both of our husband finished their lunches with a sweet ending of their homemade Coconut Cake for dessert. read more

The interior is a bit dated, but the menu is on the cheaper side for good food and good service. It starts with some nice dinner roles. They have some daily specials, but I went with a broiled crap cake which was tasty and decent-sized. The seasonal vegetable was Brussel sprouts and was kind of bland though. The South Breeze Shrimp and Scallops was a good dish and had a nice breadcrumb coating and buttery sauce. The sweet potato was only okay as well. Honestly with inflation, this place is really a great value even if it was mostly appealing to older people when we went. There was plenty of parking. London broil special was not so special today. Reminded me of the average meal one might expect at a diner. Meat was tender, but fatty. It came with mashed potatoes and a gelatinous gravy. Steamed broccoli was the side vegetable and it needed help...many some butter or cheese topping. To ease the disappointment my wife and I ordered their spectacular onion rings as our "dessert." Mortuary jokes aside... I'm now in their prized demographic. A buddy and I went for lunch today. Lunch crowd was pretty much my age group and beyond! This is the place boomers and GenX'ers bring their parents to for a night out. It won't be much longer until the boomers and GenX'ers are brought to the Peppermill by their millennial offspring or grandkids. Several friends frequent the joint and have nothing but great things to say about the Peppermill. This was just my third visit since 1989! And it was good. In fact, very good! Menu is loaded with all kinds of options at competitive prices. My buddy ordered an appetizer as his entree. A half pound of steamed shrimp, PEELED BY THE HOUSE. Considering the clientele, I get it. He ordered sides of fries and Coleslaw. This item was today's showstopper! Peeled steamed shrimp plated with onions and old bay is a pretty awesome presentation. I was jealous and remarked this item would be my choice next visit. Very impressive! I ordered the Reuben. I like their preparation which is like grilled cheese on marble rye but you have the thinly sliced corned beef, Swiss cheese, 1000 island and sauerkraut between the bread. In lieu of chips I ordered fries and a dill pickle quarter was included. The sandwich was not the best I ever had but was still very good. To tempt fate I had a slice of their famous coconut cake. Well worth trying. So, my visits average one every twelve years. Shame on me. So close to home but rarely a consideration. That will change as I am their key demo!! And that steamed shrimp appetizer is calling my name!! read more

The Peppermill is an old school local restaurant that reminds me of my grandmother in a good way. Old time bar area with many locals handling out. Friendly and welcoming to anyone. Crab soup was clearly homemade with large pieces of crab. One of the best I've had. The broth was spiced well for my taste and the bonus was Old Bay came with the cup. My wife had cream of crab and she loved it I'm not a fan of cream based soup but I tried it was silky and full of crab. For the cost and friendly staff this is Just a great experience all around. read more

I'm giving the Peppermill a solid grade for relatively low prices and friendly service, but the food quality and presentation for anything beyond sandwiches (and the drinks--generous pours) need a significant upgrade. Our dinners were a small piece of filet on a plate with a piece of parsley as garnish, and beef tips and 2 or 3 shrimp on rice with some bernaise sauce on top. Very ordinary. You get the feeling that the place is relying on its reputation among the "regulars" and is satisfied to prepare food that is good enough instead of satisfying and memorable. We'll hope for improvment but probably won't be back. read more

Baltimore Landmark since 1982, and all the original patrons and their parents are still coming. Ambiance of darkened elegance mixed with light comfort actually works. So the bar has heavy furniture with lots of light so you can read the menu with glasses and magnifying glasses. Wife walkways for walkers (when I came there was a walker jam at the front door). So people can get by with walkers, wheelchairs and other assistance devices (some people only used canes). Food was good! Crabcake had lots of crab and the 5 oz'er was perfect size for a meal since bread was complementary. Cole slaw was good and desserts were definitely sweet enough. When I get old, I want to eat at the Peppermill Restaurant, like the old people who were there eating with me that night. Being old is going to be fun. Just going out, eating and stuff. Making fun of young people and whatever new gadget they happen to be using. The meal started quick - before I realized what hit me, a flurry of appetizers were ordered and being placed all around. Servers were coming in from all angles. Hot apps grazing your shoulder. Soups here, salads there. Then the pièce de résistance - clams casino. Each little jewel lay on a salt bed, that, while stunning, also served a practical purpose. In the oven, the salt acts as a kiln, ensuring quick, intense, and most importantly, even, cooking. When I go out to eat, I enjoy a fine roast. When said roast isn't available, I go for the next best thing - pasta of the primavera type. I'm talkin' loaded with veg out the wazzoo. But here, at the acclaimed Peppermill, they do something so INSANE it can only happen in Maryland. That's right, they added crab. And they didn't even call it pasta primavera. They said f- it, we're just gonna call it Pasta with Crab and they're gonna like it. And you know what? We did. We really truly did. Oh, I love how they note in the menu they use Barilla pasta. Like for my dish it said "... fresh mushrooms, scallions, and tomatoes, served over Barilla angel hair pasta ...". Is there something special about Barilla pasta I don't know about? I buy it at the supermarket because it's cheap. it was fun being part of the early dinner rush. This place screams, "Honey, it's 4:00 PM, let's get dinner so we can be home before the ruffians come out. Also, did you hear Barb's husband passed away? Yeah, Frank. He was a piece of work, eh? Haha. I'm tired." And to finally address your question - yes, they serve calves liver. It's $21.95 and sautéed in butter. read more

I've been going to the Peppermill for 30 some years. Recently the food has not been up to par. The past two times I ordered a baked potato and it was obviously cooked many hours before the dinner hour. Dry and shriveled up. The last time I had the lobster tail, it just didn't taste right and I couldn't eat it. My dining companion ended up eating it all. Not sure what's going on in the kitchen but I hope it evens out soon as I love this place. read more

Nice looking restaurant, service was pretty good. The food was very average, most of the people who were dining here were older and in the reviews the older generation loves this restaurant, candidly I think it's because the elderly people are losing their taste buds and they can't taste the difference between good quality flavorful food and cheap ingredients, poorly executed dishes. This place has the opportunity to truly turn around and be great but sooner or later your clientele will shrink and shrink unless if you decide to improve the quality of food. I wish that they would improve on the food as I would give them another chance if they did. read more

Their fillet mignon use to be the best around but lately the Peppermill is serving an inferior cut of meat! The fillet I got today to take out was the smallest, toughest fillet I've ever had! They added about a half pound of mushrooms I guess to cover up the smaller size streak. I wasted my $50 gift card my grandchildren gave me for Christmas on a very poor meal! Ok I am not sure who is providing anything better than two stars for this restaurant. For starters, the clientele is on the older side and the servers are too. While this is something that could be overlooked , for me, it felt like I was eating a nursing home. Yes the clientele is that old. Second, the food was over priced for the quality. Maybe the chef/cook were accommodating the older clientele? But the food was tasteless and overcooked. I mean the broccoli in my shrimp stir fry was mushy, the rice was mush and even the shrimp I could bounce off the floor. Not worth the $25 they are charging for it. Being from out of town, my wife and I, were looking for a nice sit down restaurant. Not a nursing home and cafeteria style food. Service was top notch! Debbie was very attentive and provided quick service and was very knowledgeable, friendly, and had great recommendations! The ambiance was senior-oriented and costal decor! The food was great prices, perfect portions, and exactly what you would want. Crab cakes were a decent size (5oz) good ratio to crab and filling, orange roughie francaise was mild white flaky fish with balanced lemon butter sauce and nice fried egg coating, sirloin tips and shrimp bernainse was tender and cooked to order and was not very flavorful. The desserts were large - perfect to share! Chocolate cake was moist and rich with a buttercream icing and lemon meringue was traditional and what expect. Delicious! read more

As an older adult, I appreciate this Restaurant, two miles from our house. It is a perfect neighborhood restaurant. The food is better than a number of more expensive places. We like the quiet with carpet on the floor and a general sound deadening so we can talk together. Wate staff is efficient and friendly. We would feel lost without it. read more

I added a lot of old bay to the crab cake and it tasted better. Mayonnaise-y filler. Some lump. When I opened the door I smelled old people. OK, this place has a reputation for serving mostly senior citizens and beside that evident fact everything else is basically good. Portions are usually sufficient that was at least up until last night. I'm especially fond of what they call a pork loin rib. But last night's portion was embarrassingly small. It was also overcooked and dry. I always request "medium, pink". It was neither. Service was exceptionally slow to top it off. Won't be going back to our "usual" place so quickly. read more
