My brother knew him so they chit chatted for awhile about the comings and goings of other locals. The bar is no frills for sure but I still found it warm and inviting. It had a certain charm to it that I can't really put my finger on. There are pool tables in the rear the bar and an electronic juke box. Then partway through eating my salad, found one of those plastic square things (used to close a bread bag) in it. What came out was nothing like what was advertised. The Alfredo was soupy, oily, and had zero presentation. I took one bite, and my friend didn't touch his at all. I let our server know, and he handled it professionally. When the manager, Missy, came over, the tone immediately shifted. Before I could finish explaining the issue, she cut me off to say she "normally doesn't take anything off the bill but will this time." Her tone and attitude were unnecessary, especially considering I was calm and respectful. I tried to explain that both dishes were inedible, and she cut me off again to say she could only remove one. I told her we didn't even want a refund -- we were willing to switch dishes -- but she then told us the kitchen was closed. My friend let it go, but the dismissiveness was noted. When the revised bill came, the math didn't add up. The Alfredo I ordered was $30 with salmon, yet the difference was only about $4. I checked the receipt and saw she added an 18% gratuity -- nearly $30 -- even though our original receipt was printed at 8:17pm and we received our food well before that. When I pointed this out, she claimed the invoice was "reprinted" and she "had to add it." That was not true based on the timestamps. She then told me she would remove it but made a point to say the server deserved a tip. I let her know that wasn't a concern -- he was the only person who provided good service. The entire interaction felt dismissive and unprofessional. We were the only Black group in the restaurant, and although the server and another employee were also Black, the manager's assumptions and tone made it clear she thought we were trying to get something for free -- which was never the case. The issue was the food, not the pricing, and definitely not the server. We were excited to find a new hangout spot, but after this experience, we won't be returning.
