Well folks, I have enjoyed this place since we held our wedding reception there, 22 years ago! (It…read morewas still known as Sander's Corner back then.) We moved to AZ 7 years ago and quickly learned that there is no such thing as a good crabcake outside of Maryland. A few years after our wedding, the restaurant changed hands and became McFaul's Ironhorse Tavern. Initially, we were a bit concerned but that concern proved to be unfounded! With every trip back to MD, we always tried to stop into McFauls for - yup, a Maryland Crabcake (broiled), an ear or two of MD sweet corn and a cold Natty Boh! (My Dad used to work for National Brewing Co., so the beer choice was nostalgic, but honest! There is NO Natty Boh west of the Mississippi!) Anyway, nostalgia played a role in our choice of dining at McFaul's - but only ever so slightly! Until last night! We arrived at 5:30pm and had our choice of seating. It was a bit too warm to dine outside, so we chose a table for four near the fireplace. Two other tables were being served and the entire restaurant had not hit it's peak customer load! I settled in for my latest crabcake dinner. I chose the single crab cake with two sides. (Dinner: $35.00) but I am getting ahead of myself. Service was slow, waters only came right out and then the wait began. 10 minutes later, our server arrived to take our drink order. Of course, I ordered a can of Natty Boh. I also asked for a glass for my beer. 8 minutes later, the beer arrived (no glass.) Other drinks wandered in, but still no glass for the beer. I drank my water (which was also served in a beer-type glass) and waited. Our server returned to take our dinner order (still no glass!) Orders now placed and my can of Boh still needing a glass, I finished my water and poured (properly, of course) my Natty Boh into my empty, but still cold water glass. I enjoyed the first sip! Ahhhhh! Table talk proceeded and I started to dream of my cake! (BTW - no choice of broiled or fried!) Our server returned with a menu adjustment for one of our guests - kitchen was out of something. Oh yeah, my frosted glass finally arrived. (Too late!) Here's the sad part... our dinners were just so so. My small crabcake was surronded by about 25 fries and a mini Caeser's Salad. I had asked for two cups of cocktail sauce - I received one cocktail sauce and one tarter sauce. I have seen bigger crabcakes in the frozen food section of Giant Food. I was even served a cake twice as large at Camden Yards - of all places - for $28.00! One of our guests that ordered Fish & Chips received a full plate Caeser's Salad and about 50-60 fries (for way less money!) Here's my rap... I was not even mildly impressed by our food, service or ambiance! My, how the mighty have fallen. I will now remove McFaul's (with great sadness) from my "Must Visit When in MD" list! Reasons are as above, but for those that don't like to read all the dastardly details - Mediocre Food, Slow Unattentive Service, and A Tavern Ambiance that sorely needs a refresh! Sorry Folks, but Baltimore has WAY better to offer! SMH!

We ended up parking in the neighborhood across the street. There is a busy Happy Hour going on around 5:30 which is great. The Emerald Tavern has a bit of Irish-ness about it with a few Brit food options on the menu like fish and chips and shepherd's pie. We sat at the bar and were pleased to find a beer menu! The beer selection was varied and included some local options. They also have a wide selection of beer on tap and in bottles and cans. I was not expecting that. The food menu was also much larger than I would have expected. They have just about everything here. I had the chicken quesadilla (it came with salsa and sour cream) and my husband had the cheesesteak special which was only $6! All of the prices on the menu were very reasonable. We also had the pretzel bite which were good if not a little greasy. The quesadilla and cheesesteak were really good! Service at the bar was fast and friendly. They have live music here on the weekends but we left long before the band started setting up because we are old.

First, I have to recognize Melony and the entire staff for the amazing attention they gave us. They made sure our party of 67 people had an unforgettable time. We were scheduled in the upstairs room, and if the weather had been better, we definitely would have enjoyed the outdoor patio as well. The band was great--loud, just as Melony had warned me--but it added to the fun atmosphere. The buffet was perfectly timed, coming out about 10 minutes after our party started, giving parents and athletes enough time to grab their drinks first. The food was constantly replenished, so nothing ever ran out. We highly recommend the shrimp tacos, chicken tacos, Philly cheesesteak sliders, beef sliders, chicken fingers, fries, Caesar salad, and mac & cheese. Everything was delicious! The staff had reserved tables for us, and although the restaurant was packed with our group, we realized we needed two more tables. As soon as I mentioned it, the staff quickly made it happen without any hassle. From start to finish, everything was seamless and stress-free. Thank you to everyone at CVP for making our visit so memorable. These New Yorkers will definitely be back the next time we're in Maryland for a lacrosse tournament!

This was a nice and spacious event space with high top tables and chairs in addition to a long bar area. There were flat screen TVs mounted on the walls, so checking out the latest sporting events was not an issue. We got our bingo cards and dabblers and looked over the menu to order. There were two menus; the brunch menu and the traditional CVP menu. We got something from both: the CVP wings (mild), with tater tots from the traditional menu and paired it with the bottomless brunch drink package, which included your choice of house Bloody Mary, mimosa, screwdriver or Natural Light draft beer (you have to stick with one choice). The servers were pleasant and we placed our orders at the bar. The food arrived in about 30 minutes, but was warm, not as hot as I wanted. The wings were cooked well with a mild buffalo sauce and the tater tots came in a small metal bucket; enough for up to 4 people. They were fresh and not greasy, just wished they were hotter. For the bottomless brunch drink package, I chose the screwdriver and a pleasant server came over to our table and put a wristband on me so that I could walk up to the bar for refills. The vodka was well vodka, but I didn't have a headache the next day, so that was good! The upstairs area seems to be an event space. The downstairs area was the main bar with tables as well. All in all, CVP was ok for the event I attended and may visit again in the future.

When we asked to speak with a manager, we were told that the manager had already left for the night and that there was no front of house management on site. I found that extremely unprofessional, especially for a Saturday night at 8:30 p.m. As someone who has frequented this restaurant over the years and genuinely enjoyed coming here in the past, I expected much better. When he finally did, the cocktails were easily the worst we've ever had -- completely undrinkable. This isn't a one-off; it's the third time he's served us, and every time the service and drinks have been awful. He seemed out of it -- distracted, unprofessional, maybe even under the influence. To top it off, he served my drink in a dirty glass. When I asked for a replacement, he just poured the same disgusting drink into another cup instead of remaking it. I had to insist he start over. It allows you to purchase a bottle of Jameson to keep at the bar for $75 after a $50 club membership fee. I enjoyed this place and will definitely be back. The only potential issue may be parking.
