In memory of our friend Bruce Hilgartner, Ravens Roost 82. I love a bar with a memorial!

We are new to the area and decided to try McAvoy's for dinner on a recent Friday night. There was a band setting up inside getting ready to play. We sat at the bar and waited a bit to have someone give us a menu. The beer selection is on a TV and you have to watch the whole menu scroll through to choose. I would rather have a paper menu but whatevs. The beer selection was good, not just Bud Light, etc. I ordered a half-pound of shrimp and my husband had the crabcake sandwich. Both were Really Good! Also, I was accidentally given someone else's order which was a full pound of shrimp. I felt bad about getting someone else's order but glad the server was upfront about it. They did not charge me for the extra half pound! That shrimp was delicious and next time I will also know I need to order at least a pound. We left before the music started but would like to come back here to hang out, listen to music, and take in the place. Thanks, McAvoys!

Sports bar, music venue, and place for poutine. Lots of Beer on tap. If your in the neighborhood, and you want to sit outside, this is a great place to feel comfortable and get good food.

I enjoyed my brunch event that was held here. Our server was very attentive to us and we were a table of six to eight people. The food that was served wasn't bad. I ordered the fried eggs with bacon and tater tots with toast. The bacon was a little skimpy but I expected that being the brunch was included with the event. I also ordered the bottomless mimosas which the server kept flowing lol. It was made to my liking with just the right amount of OJ and champagne. The restroom was clean which is always a plus. I would return for another brunch event only. This is more like a dive bar With two pool tables nearby. Kind of tight quarters. But Ok If you're looking for that sort of thing. There was plenty of parking available outside.

Awesome people n awesome service n great music I'm going tonight for New years Eve can't wait

    Seafood tots were delicious!!

The crabs & seafood tots were really good. The waitress I had was friendly. It was a comfortable atmosphere although a little to cold.

Sometimes good, sometimes bad. Disappointed. Horrifying thing called a personal taco pizza. All it had was crusted old taco meat on it (see the photo). And yes, the manager saw this garbage plate called pizza and shrugged it off. I want to support this place. I really do, but it's becoming very difficult. I carried out pretty decent ribs from here earlier today. The bartender Melanie is always awesome. The food and service at the bar during the day is on point. Eat at the bar, if possible.

If you come here during the day, and I suggest you do... make sure you have lunch. No matter if it's the Chipotle Burger, crab cake or even something light, you will not be disappointed. Fresh hand-cut fries and the soup, if you leave and don't enjoy the homemade soups by the chef Ben... can you really say you have lived a life worth living? Me thinks not. Great place and great people with spectacular food....

The crab cake was flavorful and well-made, the hollandaise was rich and on point, and the grits completely surprised me in the best way. They were incredibly flavorful with what tasted like a horseradish style sauce mixed in, which added a great kick. Easily some of the best grits I've had. I also tried the Scotch eggs that my friend ordered. I normally hate sausage, but these were shockingly good crispy, well-seasoned, and not overly heavy. The mimosa was exactly what it should be simple and refreshing. Champagne and orange juice never fails. Total bill came to $35.25, which is definitely on the pricier side, but this is Baltimore and pretty much in line with what I expected for quality brunch and drinks in this area. The vibe is classic Irish pub dark wood, Irish scarves and flags, and a really cool display of fire department patches on the walls. It felt authentic and cozy without trying too hard. Overall, great food, solid drinks, and a strong brunch option if you're in Fells Point. I'd absolutely come back.

It's clean and dark and warm. I wasn't expecting a Cheers welcome but we weren't even created when we walked in. The hostess was at her stations all the way inside the bottom floor. The hostess was polite when we approached and sat us upstairs per our request. That's where the spell of the place evaporated. We sat about 10-15 minutes before our server made it to us. (The place was not busy outside of the bar down stairs. When she asked us what we wanted to drink my friend ordered I said "I need a second what do you recommend between...." she interrupted and said "I'll be back." It took 20 minutes to come back with his drink (Guinness in a warm beer glass) I asked for water, she didn't acknowledge me and walked away. I tried to get her attention for the next 20 minutes so we could order. She would walk past us. I tried to flag her down again nothing. After about 40 minutes she came back to take our order. We were still hoping to turn the trip around as we were excited about the menu. We ordered the shelpards pie potato skins, a bowl of cream of crab soup, a steak and the bangers stew. By the time our food made it to us we had been sitting almost an hour and a half. The soup was amazing. It was hot it was tasty the crab was forward, I really enjoyed it. The skins were mid. Some were over cooked some were just right. All of them were cold. It seemed like they were pre cooked and frozen to be reheated later. The steak was over cooked and all but flavorless. The potatoes were just wet mashed potatoes. And the beans were equally as bland. Non of it was hot. The bangers stew was... Almost edible. The potatoes. Good, onions and carrots and meat. All tasty on their own. The sauce though was ungodly sweet. So sweet that it made the rest inedible. All in all we were there for almost 2 hours. We were $91 into our tab. By the time the food came, we asked for our ticket and some boxes. We tried a few bites and left. I probably won't ever go back.

My wife saw they had black bean soup and a pork special, so we decided to stay and were seated. Since our last visit about a year ago, they've made some changes. The seating has been updated, with a second bar added along with high-top tables and booths. The space looks very nice. Our server came over, took our drink order, and we asked for a bowl of the black bean soup. When he returned, my wife asked how the pork special was, and he said it was very good, so she ordered it. I ordered the cod fish and chips. When the food came out, everything looked good at first. Unfortunately, the fish and chips were very greasy -- it seemed like the fries were placed on the plate to soak up the grease from the fish. My wife's pork dish was worse. She was given two slices with connective tissue running through them that were so tough she couldn't even get a fork into them. The other piece was also extremely tough and difficult to cut, and the gravy had no flavor. When our server finally came back to check on us, my wife showed him the pork. His response was simply that he would let the manager know and take it off the bill. There was no offer to replace the dish or bring her something else to eat. After that, we never saw him again. My wife eventually asked another server for tea, which a different server brought. Later, another server came by to see if we were finished. I asked how much the eggnog was, and she quoted the price for a bottle, said I just want a glass, she said I'll get you a menu I explained to another waitress I just wanted a glass. Eventually, I got it -- though I asked for it without ice, and it still came with ice. At that point, I just drank it. The best thing was the bean soup. Overall, this was not a good meal and honestly the worst experience we've had in the 10+ years we've been coming here. Between the food quality and the lack of follow-up from our server, it was very disappointing. It will be quite a while before we return.

In March 2018, my girlfriend at the time wanted to go here as there was a group of people going for St. Patrick's Day. We went here along with her young pre-teen daughter. They almost weren't going to let us in, but my g/f assured we just needed to eat, and they said since it was before 9 PM, it'd be ok. I enjoyed my Shepherd's Pie, a solid option here. After eating, there was dancing on the dance floor and a couple of people I knew. Then, my g/f went out to the dance floor. I'm sitting at the table with my g/f's pre-teen daughter who fell asleep. It was awkward for me especially since someone asked me if she was ok, and I said she's just tired. We left sometime in the midnight hour. But the fact of the matter was that my g/f shouldn't have put her daughter in that situation. On a positive, her daughter graduated high school & is still alive today in 2025, so her mom did something right. The other time I was here was in February 2023.
