Two of us stopped in here last night in our quest to visit all of the dive bars in Parkville on Harford Road. There is very little parking behind Emerald Tavern. We ended up parking in the neighborhood across the street. There is a busy Happy Hour going on around 5:30 which is great. The Emerald Tavern has a bit of Irish-ness about it with a few Brit food options on the menu like fish and chips and shepherd's pie. We sat at the bar and were pleased to find a beer menu! The beer selection was varied and included some local options. They also have a wide selection of beer on tap and in bottles and cans. I was not expecting that. The food menu was also much larger than I would have expected. They have just about everything here. I had the chicken quesadilla (it came with salsa and sour cream) and my husband had the cheesesteak special which was only $6! All of the prices on the menu were very reasonable. We also had the pretzel bite which were good if not a little greasy. The quesadilla and cheesesteak were really good! Service at the bar was fast and friendly. They have live music here on the weekends but we left long before the band started setting up because we are old. read more

This is my neighborhood bar. I love this place!!!! Certain bartenders and the customers!!! Me and my husband tip well but it seems that whenever we come in during the weekdays before 5p automatic gratuity gets added to our check. Let's have a real conversation (Carlos King- if you know, you know) I understand there is a stigma about black people and how they tip. But in this case you should learn your regulars and understand that we tip more than that little 20% you add to our check. Stop JUDGING YOUR PATRONS!!! We are NOT all the same. It's offensive. Went there today waited about 15 minutes for the bartender, the young guy with the tattoos to come over and tell me and four other customers that he'll get to us that we need to chill the fuc out The person next to me got the wrong food. Also, they just increased their prices of food and their food is average at best. You can get way better service at other local bars and just as good as food if not better who wants to go to a bar where the bartender costs you out after waiting 10 minutes all I did was look his way. Didn't say a single word. Maybe they should have more than three bartenders there because obviously none of the three look like they had any clue what they were doing or could handle the pressure poor management and poor employees and average food is what you'll get when you come here read more

St. Patrick's Day, not busy. They advertised $6 Guinness & Harp drafts, so I ordered a Guinness. The bartender pours it and says, "That'll be $8.35." I point to the sign: "It says $6." "Oh yeah, we add a $2 gratuity and tax." Now I always tip but not 33% every time Excuse me?! Not thrilled, but I paid. Won't be making that mistake again. Later, I spot a flimsy paper sign blowing in the wind, stating they tack on tax and gratuity to every order. Lesson learned not going to the Emerald Tavern ever again. If the sign says one thing but the bill says another, I'm out. I've never been to a bar that does that. read more

Yesterday I met some friends for lunch at the Emerald Tavern in Parkville, MD. I believe it is under new ownership/management. We had a wonderful time. I got the Emerald Burger which was excellent. The cole slaw was also good and made just the way I like it. The burger was so filling that I didn't eat any supper. Actually I didn't eat anything else until breakfast this morning! So one cool thing about NE Baltimore is a plethora of old neighborhood taverns and dive bars. This one is in the heart of Parkville. I've driveen by hundreds of times and only finally went in. I love the place. The owner (Dan) and bartender (Brooks) introduced themselves and really care about their customers. The atmosphere is clean and divey in a cool way. Family atmosphere by day and great food!! I had a terrific MD crab soup and crab cake sandwich. The latter was impressive! A real MD cake...and substantial. Great sports bar with several TVs and an owner that loves premier league. A Chelsea fan though. Ha. Also, the carry a tap of Key brewing from nearby Dundalk. Terrific stuff. Rest of the beers are corporate but eh that's fine. read more

This place throws a huge St Patrick's Day party over the course of a few days. They have tents outside and invite families to come eat and enjoy music not just the bar during the day and then at night it is back to 21+ during that event. As a neighbor to the bar, they can get extremely loud over there. On karaoke nights sometimes it'll sound like a crying dying cat loud af coming from the bar. lol. Sometimes they have live bands or a DJ but I've never been for either of those. Their food is mediocre but what's to expect at a small neighborhood bar? Drinks are good though and reasonably priced imo. Bartenders were pretty friendly. Parking sucks but there is a parking lot around the corner at the M&T bank where most people park if there's no parking out front the bar. read more

Tis a pub with an attitude. Yes, they have the locals who venture here as regulars, but they welcome newbies... a little loud... but they have 16 beers on tap! Not to mention all the bottled beer... and it is a full stocked bar! The food is good and their Cream of Crab soup is outstanding. Always have had great service... Came for trivia on a Thursday evening with some locals and the prices, host, and food was really impressive. Charm City hosts a great trivia game which complements the cheap basket of wings, fries, and soup of the day. Even with a full bar, we got our pitchers refilled quickly and food came out quickly, the only problem being that the owner or manager took 30 minutes after the game to sign the gift cards in order to give to the to the winners. There is a patio area, street parking and a parking lot, and there are several TVs inside and one outside in order to watch any games that might be on that night. Went at 6 and they didn't have enough of the days special to even cover our table (3 people) and when the ribs came some of them were hot but half of them were fridge cold. My 2 friends had the ribs and I went for the wings which I really enjoyed! I ran out of soda and no one asked if they could refill or even came around to check which was strange seeing there were very little people there. Overall an okay experience but I'm not gonna make a drive for it. read more

I am not really sure why, but I always seem to enjoy going to the Emerald...it's not a 'neighborhood bar' for me but it's not THAT far away. The only reason I went recently was for the karaoke. WAY too many bars and restaurants have suffered through this CoronaBalogna crap and it's always reassuring for me to see signs of life. Within two minutes of walking in the door, I was approached by the bartender/server for my drink order. Granted, there weren't that many customers needing attention right then, but the alacrity (look it up..) displayed by the young woman certainly got my attention. I'm a club soda kinda girl and I USUALLY make it a point of not drinking while singing but I was truly surprised she didn't charge me for my drinks. Great local bar. About 12-15 beers on tap, limited selection of IPAs but can't complain. The food is really good. I recommend the wings all day, everyday. Live music on site. Many TVs for sports. Could become my new local spot. read more

I came here for an open mic night. What a shitty dive bar! As I was about to go in I approached a staff member and tried to asked him if parking out back was okay. He was "too busy" to help and told me to ask another bartender. The guy inside got me a drink but then seemed annoyed when I asked for a glass of water later. I listened to a few songs, finished my drink and got the hell out of there. Do yourself a favor and skip this stop when you visit town. read more

Even though I'll give points to the quality of the drinks and the general atmosphere, walking in the place looked a little sketch. It seemed like we were on some random street corner. It was dark and there was construction fencing blocking the street access. The DJ was doing pretty good for the seemingly older crowd. Everyone was up and dancing on the very small floor. Okay so I have been coming into EMERALD TAVERN FOR YEARS! Since I was 21 and I am now 24. I just came back to visit to Baltimore and came here on a Friday night... it's nothing BUT LOUD ASS CLUB MUSIC. I literally told the bartender I feel sorry for you and he said " I leave in two hours praise the lord". It's absolutely ridiculous. It is nothing like the low key bar I used to love coming too. Long ago memories of prior affiliations - fast forwarded to now. Might as well be called Ye New Cheers... Internal and ownership changes well made. Upbeat place. (Frowning is prohibited there.) Friendly faces. Local hotspot. Tv's galore. Parking is extremely limited; Side roads are always an option. Another "cool-place-to-hang-out" indicator: Where else can you hear Triumph's "Fight The Good Fight" in a pub on a Digital jukebox?? Attentive service c/o Nelson, aka Nellie; Practically hurdling over tables in anticipation of delivering more beverages so much that we wondered if he was challenging our tolerance... Then recognized, having fun is Ye Old Emerald Tavern's m.o. Fresh menu selections. I would have liked to have tasted the ribs that were 86'd (Ahem, Kevin). Unusual for me, I scarfed up the french fries. Ordering the cheeseburger again is not in my cards. Lacking flavor or seasoning, the $6.99 Saturday Special (burger) was unremarkable, and might as well have been a frozen patty. Nonetheless, the dual lemon chicken breasts w/steamed veggies looked spectacular and several times was described as "delish"! We went on a pub crawl, kind of, and this was easily the funnest place we stopped. Everyone in here was older (ranging from 25-70). Down to earth and just enjoyed having fun. There was a DJ who played a good mix of music, everything from rock to oldies to top 40's. A bunch of people were up and dancing on the small bar dance floor. Drinks were good and strong. We didn't get anything to eat here, so I can't vouch for their food. We approached the bar and the first thing out of the bartenders mouth was "we are boycotting the mask mandate, so you can take that thing off". It was a very bizarre experience. The quality of the food and drinks wasn't particularly good. There was a decent amount of outdoor space, but there were some of their regulars doing burnouts with their trucks and bikes, so it wasn't exactly a great dining experience. Fantastic. The beer is cold, the prices on food is in the cheap range and it's good. My tuna sandwich was nothing short of delicious. The gravy fries my friend got were also good. The gravy (something I'm not a fan of) had a sweet taste to it, which really made me like that gravy. It's a very local bar, and I like it. I will be back! read more

While on a visit to a friend, it was decided to get them out of their aprtment. The Emerald Tavern was the choice, since we could walk there. We lucked out and it is a great neighborhood bar (the Baltimore area is so good at these). Had some food (good) and drinks (good). It was a fun place to pass the time with friends. read more

Last few times I was there wasn't the greatest and my be under new owners again. All I was told was, the person that said he was the owner wasn't and the actual owner lives in Fl. Ended up in the middle of a drama that shouldn't have occurred in the first place, and regarding food, very disappointed and never had a, "Maryland Crab cake," served in a bowl... They told me to leave and I am not complaining about that one. At least security didn't do what this, "Owner who wasn't" wanted done to me. In short, just wanted an evening out I could enjoy, and not afforded the opportunity. read more

We go to the Emerald Tavern for Trivia and wings every week. The wings are great and the servers are very nice, they remember us and always try their best to accommodate our larger group. The service can be slow sometimes, but I think it is because they are so busy during trivia. read more

Okay bar, all the irish bologna is tackey. Parking is bad. Whatever you do don't park in the back second parking lot behind the bar. Got towed within a couple hours. I like this place. They have good wings and they're free before 6 on Fridays during happy hour. Help yourself to wings and other goodies (hush puppies, meatballs, mini dogs, or whatever else they have). Grab them before 6 or they'll take them away right at 6. There's a DJ who comes in who will play requested music. But lets talk about what we're here for. Having brew. They have food, and it's pretty average. Nothing special, but I do like the wings, and I wouldn't turn you away from the food, but it's just not something that I would say you need to have. I do admit I haven't eaten too many times there except for the free wings (hot or Old Bay). How about the beer? It's a decent selection. For most people it would be great, but for a microbrew fan, it's average for a specialty beer place. They generally have Raging B*tch, and always have Sierra Nevada Pale on tap. I believe it's about 8 taps? It's pretty cheap also. They also have a beer of the day. oh and a PBR tap for 1.50, if they have the tap active (sometimes other beers take it over). It's always between Racers Cafe or Emerald Tavern for me. I like Racer's because there is an outside and a generally better beer selection, but this place has food, and who can mess with free wings, right? Tonight I'll be frequenting this local neighborhood bar for some good beer and wings. I wish they updated their beer list online like Racer's does to see what they have on tap. Went for the first time to see Radio Monkey play last week. Pretty decent crowd going, and everyone was having a great time. We grabbed a couple seats at the end of a long table, and after a few minutes, one guy (owner?) asked if we'd been helped yet (no), then immediately got a server over to our table. Food was okay... the burger I received wasn't exactly what I ordered-- not sure if I received someone else's-- but it was tasty. (Can't remember now what the bf had.) The menu has changed a bit from the pics I had seen online. French onion soup was no longer listed as an option...too bad, cuz I definitely would have tried it. We'll be back at some point and try a few other items. The important parts are that the music was pumping & service was mostly on point. Employees seemed to be having a good time, too, which is a bonus. You don't want someone taking care of you when they don't even want to be there. read more

Interesting place. Went with a pair of friends early on a Sunday evening, and the place had a decent sized crowd, including some clearly inebriated bar denizens. The sound system was on the fritz, whereby the very start of a song would play VERY loudly for a second or two, after which a different song would play at a normal volume level. The music playing at the time was mostly country. Not my thing, but to each their own! The service was solid, and the beer selection was better than what I expected based on appearances and preconceived notions. Two quality IPAs on tap, so points for that. On the down side, our meals took a fairly long time to arrive, and when they did, the nachos had chili that was... well... chilly! Another of our party had the crab cake sliders and said they were good, but didn't finish the pair of them. I had the shrimp salad sandwich and onion rings, and have no complaints other that rather large chunks of onions on the sandwich itself. The shrimp was plentiful and well seasoned. The Emerald Tavern is a great little local bar in Parkville. The crowd is mostly blue collar and the bar is chocked-full of local color and characters a plenty. I've NEVER had a bad time at this bar. There's nothing snooty or pretentious here, it's the kind of place you go to DRINK, have fun and cut loose. They have lots of events here and put of lot of effort into making them fun, and seeing that everyone has a GREAT time. I haven't eaten there in a while, but the last time I did, the very typical bar fare was yummy and served promptly. read more

Since the new owners have taken over and the inside has been redone I like it much better. They make their own fries which is a huge plus in my book. My food has always been mediocre. I ordered a french dip and the meat was dry and bland. My boyfriend seemed to like his food though, a chicken wrap of sorts. The staff is very nice. read more
