This is my go-to for Chinese/Korean food and I haven't had one bad thing from here. My favorites (in no particularly order): 1) Jja jang myeon (black bean noodle) 2) Spiced fried chicken 3) Mongolian Beef 4) Fried pot stickers (they're huge) I've dined in a handful of times and the servers (perhaps the owners) are always efficient and nice. I'd say I tend to order out more often and have never had an issue with the accuracy, temperature, taste of our food! I just left this restaurant and I think it's necessary for everyone to know where to find the best spicy seafood noodle in Chicago. It's spicy, plenty of seafood and the noodles tasted great. The portion was big enough to feed 4 people! 2 if you're super hungry. We ordered the black bean noodles (I didn't like it much but only because I'm not a big fan of black bean noodles), sweet and spicy fried shrimp (tasty) and crab Rangoon (filled with cream cheese). Service was helpful. Lots of people coming in to pick up their orders. The inside is quite antiquated but you know it's because they prefer to focus on the food than the decor. I know I'm going to be back here many times because this is the boy's favorite place for black bean noodles. My parents have been taking me here since before I can remember and this time did not disappoint either. We always come here to get our favorite jjambbong-jjajang combo and it was the best that I have tasted in a while, especially with Great Seas changing their ownership. There was a healthy amount of vegetables and seafood in the jjambbong and the jjajang's sauce was on point! Although a tiny bit salty for my taste. We also got the fried dumplings, but I thought the dumpling "skin" was too thick so it felt heavy. There's lots of street parking right next to the restaurant and the service was super quick! They have by far one of the most outdated decors but their food is superb. We ordered a mix of Chinese and Korean dishes: 1.) Sweet and sour pork - huge chunks of tender pork! 2.) Three seafood chow ma mein - The noodles are home-made and so long that they give you scissors to cut them with. 3.) Beef japchae - Mmm...delish! They have very generous portions for reasonable prices. The waitresses can be slow at times, but the owner is a polyglot fluent in Mandarin, Korean, English, and Spanish and is very good at answering any questions you may have. If you're jonesing for Chinese-Korean, specifically, ja jiang myun (noodles in black bean sauce) and the traditional dishes that round-out a ja jiang myun meal, you'll feel a little "meh" and not quite satisfied. Kind of like jonesing for authentic Chinese and trying to satisfy it with Panda Express. -- Ja jiang myun: noodles lacked that delicious toothsome bite and the sauce was simultaneously (and weirdly) both watery and bitter/burnt tasting. -- Tang soo yeok (Korean version of sweet and sour pork): nicely fried chunks of pork with the perfect ratio of breading to meat in the traditional semi-sweet, slightly tart and acidic sauce. -- Gang pongi (Korean sweet and spicy drummettes): nicely fried, but the sauce lacked both the punch of heat and contrast of sweetness that makes this dish a cure for late night munchies and late morning hang-overs alike. -- La jong myun (spicy seafood stir fried noodle): again, overly limp noodles, forgettable sauce lacking in the requisite heat. The price point and portions are far more reasonable than Great Seas (down the street), which has never been the same since it changed ownership. But at this point, for ja jiang myun, I'm still hiking up to Great Seas in Lincolnwood. read more

I used to come here a lot years ago when I went to a church just a couple blocks away. I completely forgot what a treasure this place is! I came here last weekend with my sister and dad and I wasn't really hungry when we first got there but as soon as our food came out, I was ready to dive in. The jjamppong is so flavorful with the perfect kick of spice while the jjajangmyun is deep and has the perfect balance of flavor. We also had a mongolian beef but tbh I was a little disappointed. It tasted good and all but it didn't have the crispy rice noodle thing that it normally comes with. That's my favorite part! Nonetheless, this place is 5 stars in my book! I used to frequent this restaurant quite often as a child. Umm... I think the interior is exactly the same as it used to be. It could use a good remodel. But the food is good and the service is sweet. I can recommend the jajangmyun, the jahmbong and the spicy pork. All good. And the kimchee they serve is also quite yummy. read more

We've been here twice and both times we couldn't stop saying how good the food was! The Mongolian Beef is so good and the Cha Chiang Mein....seriously so good. The prices are fair and it's always ready on time. Definitely recommend! Covid note: an employee wasn't wearing a face mask when I walked in and then put it on when they saw me, which made me very uncomfortable. I live in Albany Park, so I ordered from his Chinese restaurant on Lawrence, not far from my apartment. I had a friend over, so we ordered a few dishes and split everything. We got Spiced Fried Chicken Mongolian Beef (we asked for it Spicy) Pot Stickers The Pot Stickers are really big and were just sort of OK. The Mongolian Beef was really good (and they brought in the spice for sure!). The Spicy Fried Chicken was also pretty good. The delivery guy was nice and dinner came pretty quickly and arrived hot. There is no wow factor with this dish, but it is a safe bet. Would order again. Mongolian beef is where the WOW lays. This place is like a more spacious version of the slightly more well known Chinese Korean place down the street. Came with a party of 4 on a Sunday afternoon and there were client's but it wasn't too busy. I was surprised by how big the place is, they have quite a bit of seating. We ordered the Fried Beef with Hot Pepper Sauce, Kung Pao Chicken, Black Mushroom with Green Vegetables, and Jajangmyun (noodles with black bean sauce). The beef dish was like the spicy sweet korean fried chicken wings, except using pieces of beef. They used nice chunks of lean beef in the jajangmyun also. The service was excellent, staff was pretty friendly and helpful. The food came out fast, was pretty good and the prices seemed decent. The one dish we probably wouldn't order again is the Kung Pao chicken. Stick to the Korean dishes! read more

This is some of the best Chinese-Korean food I've had in Chicago. I highly recommend the Mongolian beef (the best I've had) and the chicken wings in spicy sauce, with the meat pushed up the bone in the classic Chinese-Korean style which originated in this very neighborhood (google "Chinese-Korean chicken wings, Curious City to learn more about that). I've always had good service here. One of the servers in particular is hilarious and super helpful. As some previous reviewers have mentioned, do not heed the confused people who don't know how to order here. If you're in doubt about what to order (especially which of the chicken wings to get), ask the server--they've always steered me right. Also, not food-related: they have a very adequate bathroom, above the standard of cleanliness I've come to expect from most restaurants with such reasonable prices. This is more like 3.5. This is the first Korean Chinese restaurant we have been to so I feel like I can't give a very well thought out review until I try Great Sea Restaurant. However, we had the jjamppong, spicy chicken wings, and sweet and sour pork. We loved the jjampong and the sweet and sour pork. The wings were kind of dry and we probably wouldn't order them again. Portions were huge. For 32 bucks we even had leftovers to bring home. We loved the old school feel of the place too. These are the Korean names rather than the English/Chinese because my sister ordered for us. Everything was good but the jjampong was the winner, hands down. The flavor was good and not so spicy that you couldn't enjoy it. Definitely a must order. The jjajangmyeon was good but it's a heavy dish and too much will send you into a food coma. The tangsooyook was probably my least favorite, but still solid. If you're close by, this isn't a bad place, but I don't think I'll make the hike again. read more

Hidden little gem....loved my experience. I walk in and was told to just take a seat very friendly and fast service. Super nice I got soup right away (didn't order it) and a nice tea pot full of green tea! Yum soup very rich and full of flavor lots of body (specially for a wonton soup). I ordered the cashew chicken to be safe and it was far from safe. Lots of flavor and just enough amount. Stopped in after reading really good reviews - this place is great! We don't have a go to Chinese place in our neighborhood, so we enjoyed having some good food here. The soup is indeed enough for probably 4 people. We had the hot and sour - and each had six bowls a piece, and there was still some left over! I enjoyed it overall, but wasn't a fan of the squid (maybe) pieces. It wasn't dark like some hot and sour, but had a tangy flavor. Other than the potential squid, pretty good. The Mongolian Beef is indeed a fabulous dish. Tender meat, lovely grilled flavor, gooey and salty sauce. I honestly wish we had stopped there! But my husband also got the kung pao chicken - good, but couldn't hold a candle to the beef. Both entrees were served with enough steamed rice. And we split some delicious rangoons. I came here today with my parents, for a nice family lunch together. We drove an hour to dine here. We had an older woman as our server, and she was fine. The reason behind my low rating here, is the man who dropped off our food. This man brought the wrong food to our table, so he took it back, but acted as if it was our fault lol. My dad kindly asked this man for an ice water, as we had not a single water at the table, and this man acted like my dad just offended his whole family! He all of a sudden had this awful attitude and started yelling "no rice!!" pretty much spitting in my dad's face. So disrespectful. My dad, who doesn't speak much English to begin with, was extremely confused. I tried to clarify and started to say "oh no, sorry, we weren't asking for rice, just a few waters" but he stormed off while I was in the middle of saying that, screaming "no rice!!". He then comes back and slams some waters on our table and stormed off again. I was astonished by the amount of disrespect. The whole rest of our time there we were so uncomfortable, we couldn't even ask for a napkin. So anyway, this all happened because my dad wanted a glass of water. We didn't even ever ask for rice, but what if we had?? Is that not allowed? We are in a Chinese restaurant? I've worked in the food industry as a server, and know exactly how a customer should be treated, and this wasn't it. Searched on yelp for Korean style zha jiang main and went to Peking Mandarin after checking the photos. We ordered zha jiang mian, spicy seafood noodle and sweet & sour pork. All three dishes are pretty good. Already suggested my friends to come. Hope the photos can attract more people to come. Lol read more

I will give this place a second chance, but I wasn't super impressed... The good: -Weird and fun atmosphere. The asian/diner fusion is kooky and I honestly like -Really friendly and polite staff -Food was decent. Crab rangoons were ok, wish they had been more crabby and less cream cheesy -The mongolian beef was a huge portion for 8.95- 2 meals worth at least The bad: -Mongolian beef was not great...it was honestly kinda bland and a little sticky. And like I said, I wish those crab rangoons had a little more crab to 'em -The price for the mongolian beef was great, but the rangoons were 3.75 for 4, which is more expensive than Wok, Mayflower, and other nearby places. Sea food noodle soup is always on point! its spicy goodness! I go there just for this soup. I think the chicken wings are good but sometimes they come out kinda tough and dry underneath that delicious sauce. The combination fried rice is what i usually get but I request they add more soy sauce. read more
