chili chicken

Love their chili chicken meal - WOW! The thigh was so soft, crunchy, nicely seasoned + meaty. Super flavorful! The cheddar cornbread w/ apple honey was also divine - tasted like a cake. The chili chicken sando was also super delicious! The watermelon drink was ok. Tons of indoor seating. Staff was friendly.

Chili Half Chicken, salted egg wings and glazed turnips with miso butter side.

Glad I got to try this in NY and not as a pop up in SF where the waits would have been crazy. A casual Tuesday lunch for 3. We ordered Chili flavored half chicken - regular spicy I think? It was great, a little kick, nothing crazy and slightly sweet. I was worried about a "too numbing" flavor but that wasn't the case and it was pretty good. salted egg wings - YUM!!!! this flavor was so good on the wing, crispy, juicy, well flavored! we should have ordered another one haha. turnip with miso butter - oh you know, we thought it was healthy-ish to fight the heavy chicken lol but it was nice. pretty tasty actually, you do taste the...pine nuts? yummy too. very different as a side. overall it was yummy, I think it helps there's no line, no frills. definitely would get again!

I really wish I could've tried the famous fried chicken that went viral but alas because it was not halal I had to try one of the veggie options which was the mushroom poboy. It was just mid to say the least and way too salty. I get that this is primarily a fried chicken spot and did appreciate there were two veggie friendly sandwiches on the menu but it was a total miss for me. My friend really liked it though! So guess it really is whatever your palate favors. I personally liked how chewy and firm the bread was vs my friend not so much so it's definitely something I can see people being divided over but I didn't think it was worth the visit or the stomach space. But my curiosity was satiated! Appreciated there was a water station.

One of my favourite restaurants in the area! Unfortunately, also the last day before they close. From my understanding, this is due to no fault of their own. It's a shame to lose such a delicious, welcoming, unique restaurant. Thanks for all the wonderful meals.

A little overhyped, but glad I visited to say that we tried. Inside there are a couple of booth seats and stools to sit by the bar. There are also water cups that you can refill on your own with either sparkling or still water. - Dirty fried rice: 3/5; dry, lacking flavor - Mala fried chicken: 4.5/5; nice szechuan spice, with a good numbing kick. Use the excess chili oil to soak up the dirty fried rice. A nice stop in Brooklyn, but a little gimmicky with the fusion concept. I would recommend going to Chinatown Brooklyn if you're looking for somewhere more authentic with better mala flavor.. :3c

Ghost Pepper Wings - it was served cold ! ! ! ?

Finally tried this pandemic hype spot. Salted Egg Fried Chicken - I love salted egg typically, I sort of feel like it has salted egg's heaviness yet the tastiness. It was greasy. After half chicken I couldn't eat anymore of this flavor. Chili Fried Chicken - it was better, spicy, flavorful with five spice, soak in chili oil though. It tasted better than Salted Egg one. Corn Bread - dry Dirty Rice - nothing special, no chicken liver flavor Bean Salad - beans were undercooked Cucumber Slaw (?) - it was fine/normal Fried Chicken Sandwich - safe item it was pretty good Ghost Pepper Wing - it was served cold, like right out of fridge. Had a thought that David Chang served cold fried chicken as well, but this was way too cold... Almond Panna Cotta & Peach - it's the almond extract flavor (I don't mind it) and canned or sugar soaked peach, overall is a bit too sweet. I'm glad I finally tried, but honestly, way too expensive for what it is! $30 for 3 fried chicken in BK, might as well go to Coqodaq for their Bucket for $38.

Came on a hungry day and tried out their quarter chicken with salted egg. I like the light crisp to the chicken skin and it wasn't heavy. The salted egg also added umami and richness. The dirty rice complimented it well, but I do wish it had more to it. Eating along side with the chicken is really good, but by itself was plain.

Wow these chili chicken were amazing! That thigh was so tender & the crust was so crispy

I was told by someone to try their chili fried chicken & I finally was able to come here! We came here on a weekday (Monday) at 6pm + it was a bit slow (only 2 staff, 1 took orders + 1 brought you the food items). So if you are in a rush to go somewhere (like a concert at Barclay's) then this may not be ideal. Ordering was very easy (you order at the register next to the door) + they give you a numbered stand if you dine in. There were a few tables w/ chairs for indoor dining. Love that they have a water dispenser (sparkling or still water) to choose from. There is even a box of gloves for those who don't want to dirty their hands. Tons of wipes were also available. We ordered to share: 1) 2 piece chili chicken meal w/ 1 side (we chose the cheddar cornbread w/ apple honey), 2) Chili Chicken Sando, 3) Watermelon drink. 2 piece chili chicken meal - WOOOOW! I had no expectations and was utterly surprised at how delicious the chili chicken pieces were! The thigh was so soft and meaty & soooo crunchy + nicely seasoned. The breast was also soft but not as soft as the thigh + it was super meat & crunchy + nicely seasoned. The chili oil & spice they put on the outside was not severely spicy but it had a very nice kick to it. So much flavors going on in these chickens! Super delicious & I would reorder this meal again. The side we chose was the cheddar cornbread w/ apple honey + it was so soft, delicious, flavorful w/ the right amount of sweetness. I felt like I was eating a cake haha. Chili Chicken Sando (duck fat chili oil, kewpie mayo, bread and butter pickles, milk bread) - WOOWWW! I loveed this sando so much! The milk bread was so soft + fluffy. The chili chicken piece was so meaty and well seasoned + crunchy. That pickle + kewpie mayo paired so well + elevated the sando. I would reorder this in a heartbeat! YUM!! Watermelon drink - this was very light and not very sweet. You do taste some watermelon in there. The sparkling water was refreshing, but the still water was the best tasting. I would come back here to try their other items! YUM!

Blackened Chicken Sando

Too much chili oil or something was off in the ratio last time I went. I have a pretty high spice tolerance and it wasn't really that it was too spicy it just left a weird taste in my mouth. It was almost unenjoyable not because of the flavor necessarily but the effect. It was like too much of a good thing and I couldn't appreciate the flavor anymore because it was overwhelming. I also didn't love the blackened chicken flavor wise. Would still go back but not quite as consistent as I'd hoped.

Been wanting to try this neighborhood spot for a while and finally came and ordered the corn bread, dirty rice, classic sando, and Tofu PoBoy. The sandwiches were great, but the sides were our favorite, both the cornbread and the rice were delicious! We will absolutely be back!

Half Chicken, Classic Sando and Kale Salad with Toasted Sesame Dressing

I have eaten here twice in the span of 3 days. My brother recommended this and since my husband and I were in the area we decided to try it. The first time we went we ordered the salted egg half chicken, the chili chicken jr and the cucumber side. That salted egg was excellent! It was very rich and you could taste every artery being blocked but it was worth it! The sandwich was so good as well. The chili flavor wasn't as strong as I was expecting but it was really good! The cucmbers were a little bitter for my taste but overall it went well with the chicken flavor. The second time we went we got the half chicken in chili, the classic sando and the kale salad. Everything was a five star! The kale salad was so good (I dipped some of the chicken in the dressing) The sando was so good! I loved the soy pickles! If I'm in the area I will definitely be back!

I have mixed feelings about Pecking House. I saw some stuff on socials about it, and have been really excited to try it for a while now. Some of the food lived up to the hype for me, but most of it didn't. I thoroughly enjoyed the Chili Chicken Sandwich, but the sides were not particularly impressive. The potato salad wasn't bad, but it wasn't memorable either. The same could be said about the cornbread. And then there was the salted egg chicken. It was pretty bland, and it left a kind of chalky feeling in my mouth after. Wasn't super impressed. The staff were friendly, and the space was nice, but I don't know if it really was everything I had hoped. The TLDR: get the Chili Chicken Sandwich, and you'll have a good time.

Fast casual Chinese/Southern fusion, specializing in fried chicken and elevated comfort food sides. They also have an interesting selection of vegetarian items. This location near Barclays Center is the original, but feels oddly sterile compared to the one in Chinatown. My husband did not enjoy their fried chicken, stating that it was overly oily, and that the salted egg breading left a strange powdery texture/bitter aftertaste in his mouth. I opted for their Ma Po Tofu Molete Sando, which contained a generous pile of yuba and avocado. I liked how saucy the sandwich was; the juices soaked into the bread, making it a pleasantly soggy knife and fork situation. However, the flavors were incredibly one-note. Salt, soy sauce, salt. The sides were similarly underwhelming, and unfortunately, we ordered all of them. The fries were overcooked, the butterbean and potato salads were profoundly bland, the cheddar cornbread dry and mealy. The only side worth eating was the glazed turnips with miso butter, which were perfectly cooked, and topped in a vibrant chimichurri.

The cauliflower wings were amazing! A bit overpriced but great flavor. The traditional wings are tiny and okay, but nothing to brag about.

They open at 5 pm for dinner and I came to wait at 4:50 pm. I was able to walk-in right away and get seated. SM in the chicken dish stands for soy milk and it was definitely something I was able to taste. The portion size was pretty decent but I did had two issues with the dish. The dish was more of a Sichuan/Mala type of seasoning rather than something you expect to see from Taiwanese fried chicken. I did wish they use that kind of seasoning instead. With such a big portion of chicken, I also wish they had more of a variety of dark and white meat, as I had mostly white. I also ordered their minced pork over rice and their beef noodle soups - two classic Taiwanese dishes. I actually ended up enjoying Wenwen's take on the two dishes more than the chicken! They were also known for their fried Tangyuan desserts and that was something I enjoyed as well!

Service was good, and pretty quick. One of their specialty dishes that I've heard so much about is their BDSM chicken: their Brinded, De-boned, and Soy-Milk battered yellow fat chicken. As they only have limited quantity each day, I was surprised that they had it when I came in at 6:30p on a Monday. I paired it with their cucumber salad and some rice, and it was great! The chicken was crispy yet still juicy and the seasoning was delicious. Loved the sauteed greens and beansprouts that they added to the dish, and I thought that it was very well-rounded. Would love to come back to try some of their other popular dishes, such as their popcorn chicken, beef noodle soup, or tangyuan.

The noodles were my favorite dish - hearty and flavorful, with a pleasant texture and plenty of aromatic flavor. The dumplings were pan fried, with a well seasoned filling and slightly crispy texture. The century egg and tofu was nice, with strong flavors from the egg balancing against the mild tofu. And the mochi was a nice and simple sweet end to the meal. My partner also enjoyed the la rou fan. The bill came to $72 after tax and tip, which is pretty reasonable for the huge quantity of food (we definitely ordered too much). For sure worth a try.

On more than one visit, the beef contained large amounts of sinew and cartilage that were not properly rendered. This isn't just a texture preference -- it's connective tissue that would normally break down if the meat were braised long enough. I've attached a photo showing what was served. The first time this happened, I mentioned it to the staff, and they agreed the meat quality was poor and told me management had instructed them to serve it anyway. The next couple of visits were much better, so I assumed the issue had been addressed. However, on my most recent visit, the same problem returned. When I raised it again, the woman at the front told me that this was "edible for all of us in the back" and suggested it was a personal issue rather than a preparation or quality problem. I'm not expecting premium cuts, but when a dish relies on long-braised beef, excessive cartilage and sinew shouldn't be the norm -- especially when staff themselves have acknowledged the issue in the past. Consistency and how feedback is handled really matter, and unfortunately this experience left me hesitant to order the dish again.
