    Turkey Cheese Sandwich

The renovation of Brae Heights plaza several years ago resulted in numerous changes: a larger more defined parking lot, a revamped and more modern look to the building, and the conversion of what was once Antone's and what is now Paulie's. The ownership is all in the same family and is still going strong as a specialty sandwich destination. The interior is bright, clean, and full of natural light during the day. Despite the ample seating, it's been rarely full in my experiences, apart from a decent lunch crowd. Due to all the prepackaged foods, Paulie's also serves as an ideal grab and go / takeout spot. The customer service can be a mixed bag at times, but calling ahead of time goes a long way. Most of the staff is bilingual in Spanish and the parking is plentiful. I admire the niche for all things Louisiana. Whether it's a one of their poboy's, the Zapp chips, or the muffulettas, there's a lot to appreciate. The muffuletta was impressive visually, but similarly to the poboys, they're a bit skimpier than something one would find in New Orleans or Louisiana in general. The feel is a bit more corporate than it is small business, but beggars can't be choosers. Lastly, they shouldn't be confused for the uber popular Italian spot in Montrose. Both of the signs might look similar due to having the same name and being red, but it's completely different.

Let me begin... the customer service here was of the highest caliber... reminding me of a time when business actually cared about their customers and made you feel wanted. Throwback to good times here at Pauline's. Next; the Sammy or PoBoy... if you're missing that Antone's sub... it's waiting for you here at Pauline's. Fresh deli cuts, from scratch chow chow and pickles ... and a serve yourself market fridge for those on the go. The dine in is clean and plenty of seats to sit and enjoy your meal. We got the supreme (Togo) baklava, a muffeletta, ham, and a regular. All we as great as a PoBoy gets! Thanks Paulie's for keeping it sweet; appreciative to your customer and making us smile the whole time. The woman behind the register was so sweet and pleasant... we are brining Dad back here for sure!!

Bread on the shrimp Po boy is crispy and fresh. The sauce on the sandwich is amazing, but I wish they added more shrimp.

My partner wanted to grab lunch here so we tried for the first time this place. We got a simple sandwich and elote which the staff said it should take 15-20 mins. We waited and waited it past 40+ mins and I went to ask. - First was that they lost our order number and they couldn't find it. - Second the manager began to say our order was taken by someone else and then that my partner grabbed it. Switching her words back and forth and not believing what we had said. I asked how did we grab our stuff if I still have the device to notify when our food is ready. - Third she completely stopped talking to us and went to go help at other customers. I told her we want our money back and she said, "well I'm not going to refund for the drinks you had". Ma'am, that's not how you run a business. Just admit you messed up and take ownership of your mistakes to help a customer out. - Fourth she mentioned that other tickets have been lost today and other foods have been stolen before. This just shows how disorganized this placed is. We were able to ask for our money back but it was a battle about it. I was disappointed because we wanted to support your business but at this service? Heck no! Do not come here. And from reading other reviews now we did not miss on the food.

The inside definitely has a Cajun feel to it with the decor; very Louisiana. I was greeted and made the 4th quarter decision to get a muffuleta, chips and a canned pop. So when I decided to give Angelo Z's a try, I came in hopeful but ready to judge with the precision of a seasoned shrimp connoisseur. First, I'll give credit where it's due: the place is designed beautifully. Clean, inviting, well thought-out décor. The staff? Top-notch. Friendly smiles, fast service -- the kind of welcome that makes you want to pull up a chair and stay awhile. But then my shrimp po'boy arrived. And that's where things took a turn. The bread was toasted -- yes, toasted -- which, for a Louisiana po'boy, is already a red flag. To make matters worse, it wasn't even the traditional French bread that's light, airy inside, and has that delicate crackle on the crust. Instead, it was a dense, over-toasted loaf that crunched like I was chewing on a roofing shingle. Then came the real deal-breaker: I bit in and realized the shrimp hadn't been deveined. At all. And for anyone who knows seafood, that black line running down the back isn't some "seasoning" -- it's grit and waste. One glance at that and my appetite clocked out. I understand I'm not in Louisiana anymore, and I'm all for creative spins on classics, but there's a line between "putting your own twist" on something and missing the fundamentals altogether. Unfortunately, this missed the mark in a way I couldn't overlook. Beautiful space. Wonderful people. But for me? A shrimp po'boy that isn't deveined, on the wrong bread, and toasted into oblivion isn't a po'boy worth coming back for.

However, I haven't found myself wanting to come back even though I drive past this area pretty frequently. If I did come back, I'd probably just order the same flavor again because it was that good. The Zeppelin is very filling though and kept me good for 2 meals, I just think nothing else on the menu appealed to me (other than the Spicy Tejano) enough to steer away from my go-to sandwich/bowl places if the craving for that type of food ever came. The staff were super friendly though and parking wasn't terrible. I've only ordered from here a couple of times, always to go when I needed something quick for work, and I'll give them credit, they always have the food ready on time. I'd much prefer going to a larger location where you can sit more comfortably (they have like 4-6 small tables inside), so it won't be a place I regularly visit. I was going to go with just two stars because the tiny location and general lack of parking around lunch time make it a bit miserable to visit, but I had to give them a third star after my wife's family went there for lunch and thoroughly enjoyed being able to leave the nearby Starbucks and grab a bite to eat in proper chairs.
