    HOT Honey Wings and Waffles
    Jonaya P.

I've been wanting to try this place and finally got around to it. I got the hot honey wings & sub blueberry waffles. The waffles are good you can tell they're homemade and fresh. The wings were a little too big for my liking and a tiny bit undercooked. They were also very greasy as well.. they tasted a bit old. I wouldn't care whether or not I ate here again.

Stopped here after getting Isa Matcha, wouldn't normally have tried this place but we were surprised it was pretty good!

I've been a fan of The Waffle Bus for almost 10 years now, ever since it used to pull up to my dorm back in college. So when I saw they had a full restaurant now, I had to take my mom to show her one of my old college eating stomping grounds! The menu has expanded so much since the food truck days, and of course I had to try something new, but there was no way I could skip the famous Chicken Thunder Fries. We also ordered the Hottie Melt and the Brunch Burger to share. Flavor-wise, I really liked the Hottie Melt, but I was a little thrown off by the bun being flipped inside out. Was that intentional or just because you ran out of the toast it's usually served on? If it was the latter, a quick heads-up would've been appreciated so we could've swapped for something else. The Brunch Burger was a win. It was my mom's favorite. Basically a classic bacon cheeseburger with a fried egg on top- simple and flavorful. Now for the part that makes me sad to say... The Chicken Thunder Fries weren't quite how I remembered them from the food truck days. The fries didn't taste super fresh- a little tough, like they'd been sitting out- and the sauces, which used to make the dish, were barely there. I could taste the spicy mayo, but that rich ancho chile honey butter that made the fries glisten and saucy underneath all the chicken? Not present On the bright side, the employee who helped us with our order was sweet. My mom had a few questions while ordering, and he was nice and helpful.

I wanted something sweet without being too sweet and it ended up being a perfect choice. You order in person using the tablets, and I love d being able to customize my waffle exactly how I wanted, chocolate, strawberry, whipped cream, honey and fruity pebbles. It cost a little extra but it was totally worth it. Service was quick and easy and my waffle came out just right.

I have loved The Waffle Bus since I first had it at it's food truck but this was my first time coming in to their restaurant building. I had passed by a few times in the past but this was my first time passing by hungry and with time to spare....well I didn't necessarily have the time but decided the person I was meeting would have to wait. I pretty much knew I was coming in to get my old favorites from eating there but was pleasantly surprised and overwhelmed by the amount of options. To say the least I acted out a little bit when ordering, so let's get into this adventure. The restaurant itself is very nice. It has that clearly modern, but retro diner aesthetic from the outside. Inside is very clean and bright. There is a lot of popping menu item signage to highlight items you may have skipped over. I didn't realize it was a place that you put your order in with a screen instead of a person. I stood for a minute thinking I was waiting on someone to help me before realizing. I wish one of the people behind the counter would've informed me of this as I stood there. I didn't see anything telling me to place my order that way if there was a sign for it, so if it isn't I think that would be good for first-time customers. The menu itself as I said before is very vast compared to what I was used to from the food truck. Everything on the menu though thankfully feels on brand. I'm sure the next time I go I'll get some things I didn't try this time. The Buttermilk Fried Chicken and Waffle sandwich was a must-have from previous times. It's a juicy fried chicken breast served on waffle halves with their Thunder Sauce. Every element of this sandwich works for me. It's savory and sweet and spicy and oh so delicious!! I also got the Chicken Thunder Fries. This is their Seasoned Waffle Fries topped with chicken bites and thunder sauce. This is another item that I've had and is where my indulgence starts to show. I could've easily just got the waffle fries, which are in themselves delicious, but I wanted to go the extra mile. (Not mad at myself for doing so ‍) This item is a whole meal in itself. Lastly I got the Hottie Melt with an extra patty. Again this is essentially the third meal I've ordered, but again I do not end up mad at myself for doing so. This is actually the only thing I had that was new to me, as I didn't know they offered smashburgers. It's a habanero spiced patty with American cheese, grilled onions, jalapenos and their Stormy sauce. This was a very delicious burger! For me to have went in expecting delicious fried chicken and waffle variations this was an unexpected gem. The items I look forward to trying on a next visit would be the Mac & Cheese, a sweet waffle sandwich (which I've had before and know to be good), the Swirl Milkshake and Milk & Cereal Ice Cream. A place like this that has given me so many wins on different items, always makes me feel encouraged to try more of their menu. For me there wasn't much customer service interaction but the times when I did was pleasant enough. The only comment was wanting some menu help. Ordering on screen though is pretty straightforward and a smooth process. Overall this is an amazing place that truly wins in all aspects to me, from visual aesthetics to menu options to deliciousness, it's all great! The fact they went from an amazing food truck to having multiple locations is also a testament to just how great their product really is.

My son convinced me to come here and I must admit we had a fantastic experience. We ordered the Fried Chicken Waffle Sandwich, Nashville Hot Fried Chicken, MacDaddy (waffle thunder) & the Hot Chicken Fryders. Everything was delicious each bite was bursting with flavor. Customer service was amazing and we felt welcomed every minute of our visit. This is establishment is so fun inside and outside. Loved the vibes and highly recommend trying it out.

Delicous, fresh, and filling comfort food served in generous portions! The fried chicken, waffles, waffle fries, Mac n cheese, and milkshakes are the big highlights here and they provide many creative variations to satisfy anybody. Is it healthy? Probably not. But it certainly always hits the spot! We are consistently impressed by the freshness of the food as it is cooked to order, and the servers call it out as soon as it's ready. The thunder chicken fries are a shareable crowd-pleaser and feature the thick cut, seasoned waffle fries with ancho chile spicy mayo and bite size fries chicken pieces. The sauces bring a lot of flavor and tang that ties everything together. Want to upgrade it further? Add a side of Mac n cheese on top. The Mac daddy chicken sandwich is a flavor bomb of sloppy goodness with creamy mac n cheese on fried chicken between brioche buns. The fruity pebbles milkshake was a perfect cold, sweet complement to the heavy, tangy, and savory meal. Lots of indoor seating available which is perfect for groups, and the food portions lend themselves to sharing. Waffle bus seems to be pretty popular with the late night crowd so lots of traffic in and out, delivery/pickup, and a little loud. There's an interesting wall of many TV screens hypnotically playing landscapes and vacation-type videos which is kinda soothing and nice to look at. Very casual vibe and good place to catch up with friends.

It's a nice establishment. Good for walk up or if you have a car ample parking. Overall this place is confusing. They sell chicken, waffles, burgers and ice cream. All of which is ehh. Burger is lacking flavor. The sauce muddles everything. The waffle okay. Very generic. Chicken the two chicken options are okay. The "Nashville hot" chicken isn't hot at all. The Mac and cheese was simply not good. Overall it's edible but not a place I was look forward to going back to.

Beautiful sunny day I walked into The Waffle Bus with my chest pounding like Casey stepping up to the plate full of hope, confidence, and dreams of a flavor grand slam. The smell of waffles and fried chicken filled the air, and I felt the eyes of the crowd my taste buds watching, waiting for victory. I ordered with confidence, like Casey up to bat just knowing he was about to win the game. I knew the Chicken Thunder Fries spicy mayo, ancho chile honey butter chicken biters, and fries would be my home run for the night. The first bite came, and immediately STRIKE ONE!!! Not enough chicken. The fries were covered in spicy mayo and ancho chile honey, but they couldn't carry the game alone. 'BOOOO !' I could hear my brain yelling in full disbelief. I took a breath, trying to stay calm after all, I still had my side of mac and cheese. This was the comeback moment, the swing that changes everything. I dug in, hoping to shift the momentum STRIKE TWO!!! The Mac It arrived warm, not hot a lukewarm reminder that not every hero hits a home run on command. 'BOOOOO' throw it away let's go somewhere else" my brain went again, sweat coming down. But I wasn't ready to give up. Just like Casey with two strikes, I shut my brain down and thought, let's mix it all together. The Waffle Bus would step up and hit a home run like it used to, back when it was just a food truck and I'd drive around on Saturdays looking for it. I took a bite, waiting for redemption. The sauces teased with potential, the honey butter hinted at glory, but the magic never landed. A mouthful of fries, Mac and chicken was a swing and a miss. My stomach was ready to cheer, but my taste buds just shook their heads in disappointment. By the end, the scoreboard in my mind was clear: there will be no joy in Houston today The Waffle Bus had struck out, and so had my smile. I walked out into the rain, head down, wiping away a tear yes, it was raining, lol it wasn't when I got there. The drops matched the letdown of a meal that had promised so much and delivered so little. Some days, even Casey can't save the game and today, neither could The Waffle Bus. My once-favorite chicken shop has fallen. This review was inspired by Disney's 1946 -Casey up to bat-

This place is delicious! It probably has some of the best seasoned waffle fries I have ever had. The waffles are so soft which I love and the chicken is perfection! Not too dry at all with a lot of flavor. The Mac and cheese is delicious as well. This will be a regular spot for me!

Bigger than expected menu at a super casual spot just across from the Menil. Super convenient to most spots on Montrose. Prices seemed high but portions made up for it. Ordering from the kiosk made things easier but the food pickup process was slightly chaotic.

    HOT Tender Basket
    Thao T.

After all the years of just going to the Waffle Bus food trucks, I finally tried out the brick and mortar. My friends and I came here on a whim after a visit at the Menil because it was just a short walk away. Fun and casual restaurant, very fitting of the Waffle Bus aesthetic. You'll order at the kiosk and pick up at the counter. From my previous experiences with the Waffle Bus food trucks, I always thought it was overpriced and just okay. But this time it was definitely better. I shared a HOT Tender basket - 2 tenders, waffle fries, and toast. If you like Chick-Fil-A, you will LOVE what Waffle Bus offers. They have the same flavor and texture profile, but Waffle Bus is 10x better. Trust. I will be back.

I stumbled upon this place one Sunday afternoon and absolutely loved it. Parking can be a hassle as it is limited but it's worth it. It can get crowded pretty quickly but there is outside seating to accommodate more guest (might not be ideal for those hot days). Ordering is done through a touch screen and there were numerous food options to choose from. I was with a large party and we were able to combine tables to accommodate the party. The food came out quickly and was delicious! I highly recommend this spot as everything was great! There is a coffee shop and Italian ice shop inside as well.

Whether it's a solo meal, a lunch date, or a group led affair, the experience is almost always an excellent one. Start by ordering at the counter and find a seat where the food will brought directly to the table. So much of their variety caters to all sorts of dietary restrictions from vegan to gluten free to nut free. Their spicy crispy brussels sprouts ($10) are a nice starter, as is the squash "onion" rings ($12). The local power bowl ($16) is a classic and I've always enjoyed the brown rice and quinoa combo. Their chicken "posolé" is solid, and I love the large hominy bits along with the clear but green tint of a broth. The chicken shawarma bowl ($20) is an interesting mix that includes pickled beets and strawberries, along with their market cheddar burger ($17) and fabulous twice cooked fries. The carrot cupcake is strangely addicting, and I think their gluten free brownie is a bit of a sleeper. Some of their items didn't jive with me previously, such as an underwhelming cashew queso ($9), a semi-laughable Vietnamese steak bowl ($22), and their semi-gringo version of a banh mi ($15). It's not that these items are bad per se, but they definitely don't live up to the same standard that I feel their other dishes do best. Where they hit the biggest home run is their customer service. Everyone working behind the counter does their best to deliver and they almost always do by staying on top of refills, cleanups, and customer greets. This is the one and only location here and a great stop for all kinds of sandwiches. Their menu includes innovative offerings and iconic flavors, essentially the best of both worlds. If you're craving a classic or simple sandwich, you can get that. However, if you're looking for something special or out of this world, you can also get it. Ike's specializes in sandwiches with their Dutch Crunch bread and Dirty Sauce, both unique in its own way. Whether you're a meat lover, vegetarian, vegan, or on a gluten-free diet, their menu has it all. I personally am not a super fan of the Dutch Crunch bread since I find it a bit too harsh on the palate and somewhat dry, but love the Dirty Sauce (make it extra or on the side). I enjoy subbing the Dutch Crunch with either French or Sourdough. With over 300 unique sandwiches on the menu, there's a sandwich for everyone. My favorites have been the Menage A Trois (halal chicken, honey mustard, BBQ Sauce, real honey, pepper jack, swiss, cheddar), Ike's Reuben (pastrami, mack Sauce, purple slaw, gouda), Joker (all beef meatballs, fried zucchini, Ike's red pesto, ranch), and Grant Pinkerton, a Houston exclusive (Pinkerton Brisket, pastrami, BBQ aioli, provolone). All of my sandwiches have been stuffed and tasty, worth it! However, I find some menu items to be subpar in quality and flavor (chicken strips). The service is typically quick, efficient, and friendly. There are more than a handful of tables inside and some out on the patio. The shared parking lot can get very crowded as it is packed with lots of other businesses.

Honestly, in the beginning it was pretty rough, slow service, incorrect orders, and the sandwiches just weren't as good as what I was used to getting in California. That said, I kept coming back every now and then hoping things would improve, and I'm glad I did. My last few visits have been great. The sandwiches have been fresh and really tasty, and the customer service has been solid. I also spoke with Jose, and he mentioned he's been working hard to turn things around, and it definitely shows. Not sure why they don't have more locations yet, but I hope they expand soon!
