I can't believe I never reviewed this place! There's not much not to like about Paula's. I have eaten there twice and the service was outstanding every time. I used to order carryout here frequently for business meetings that were being held back at the office and the bartenders were always super friendly and helpful. The ambiance is quaint, romantic, pleasant. They do have a small area upstairs that could be considered for private dining for bigger parties. They also have a fresh fish market, which is pretty cool. Although, I wonder how fresh some of the fish can really be in land-locked Fort Wayne. The food... I have zero complaints. I have gotten the fish tacos and the fish and chips. The fish tacos, while delicious, are messy, so if you're going for a classy look, I don't recommend these. The fish & chips were BOMB! I think Paula's has the best steak fries I have ever had. I highly recommend the jalapeno tartar sauce over any of the others. I have a pretty high tolerance for heat, so it's not really spicy to me, just flavorfully delicious! When I ordered for carryout, clam chowder was always a huge hit, as is their teriyaki salmon. This place blew my mind. Met at suggestion of a colleague. Glad he did. Wow. First the bread is soft and pillowy with a rosemary flavor. I try not to eat white bread but couldn't resist. I ordered the clam chowder and it was very good. My salad sealed the 5 stars. Buffalo shrimp salad. 5 big tasty spicy shrimp over a bed of lettuce and ranch dressing with celery sticks. Oh fishy fishy fishy fish! Paula's has the reputation as the best (or one of the best) seafood places in town. As you walk in, a fresh seafood market is right there; just rows and rows of raw cuts of fish, and no fishy stink. Paula's has not changed its menu much over the years, so keep an eye out on the specials for something new. I recently had Thai-inspired fish cakes that were spicy and delicious, with a bright-tasting, vinegary cucumber slaw. The dish only needed a bit more of the sriracha-inspired sauce and slaw to round out the flavors. Other classics: almond-crusted walleye, blackened salmon w. blue cheese topping, and the famous crab cakes. You get a warm basket of bread and butter before each meal; don't go overboard, as you'll want to save room for the fantastic seafood offerings. Service is professional and generally knowledgeable, and there is a large upstairs space for special events. Dinner with the Parents - they had been here a few times, our first. Led into the second room (first is near the cases of fish for purchase to take home) and delighted with the airy layout - eclectic tables and chairs and the homey feel of the room - more like dinner in someone's house than a stuffy restaurant. Waiter was really energetic and super in explaining the menu, the drink options and specials. I went with the special salad - salted pineapple with coconut flakes and had salmon as my entree. That salad... well, I'm writing about and took a photo, it was amazing and will spend a few hours trying to recreate the balance of greens to pineapple and dressing. Salmon was cooked to perfection. Paula's on Main was some of the best sea food I have ever had. I went there with a group of friends while on a business trip and we all raved about our meals! I had the sea bass (seen below), most of my friends had the miso glazed salmon which they all said was the best salmon they ever had, and one person got the scallops. The scallops were huge, cooked perfectly, and I was surprised to see that the dish came with I think 6 or more scallops, which is unusual considering how affable the price was. Hit this stop on the recommendation of a local. The place was busy but not very noisy. I was promptly seated and taken care of by the Wait Staff. Being from the east coast it was nice to see some fresh fish in the fish market side of this restaurant. The price on the market side was a little high but I guess that is normal if you expect to get fresh fish from the ocean in Indiana. So back to the cooked side.... I ordered the almond crusted walleye and let me tell you it lived up to the hype. The portion. Was generous and it was cooked to perfection. The flavor was mild and exactly what you would expect from fresh Canadian walleye. I got the romaine heart wedge and a side. I thought that it would be ok but this was different. They must have had some magic pixie dust in the back that they sprinkled on. The tomatoes were awesome and let me tell you that I normally push these away... in this case I was flipping over the lettuce to find more. They balance well with the bacon and what had to be homemade blue cheese dressing. I will be back to this place next time I am in town... Don't let this one pass you up... read more

Incredible meal tonight at Paula's! We made a last minute reservation for 2 and they could accommodate us. Our server, Jamie, was excellent. Our water glasses never went below half full and our food was delivered very promptly- even though the restaurant was packed! Husband ordered the jambalaya and was thrilled with the flavor! Paula's is normally one of our favorite places to eat. However, went there last Saturday and it was really not very good. Three of us ordered the combo, which is normally a go to great meal. Potatoes came out cold, had to send them back. The meat (Walleye, crab cakes and coconut shrimp instead of the scallops) were not hot. The Walleye was barely warm..tending to cool, the crab cakes were burned on the outside and cool inside. Coconut shrimp were ok, but not hot. I lived in Fort Wayne years ago and remember always hearing great things about Paula's, but never had the opportunity to try it. I was recently back in town for work and we stopped in for a late lunch. The lunch menu is great and reasonably priced. Three out of the four of us opted for one of the specials which was a walleye club sandwich served with avocado and bacon. I ordered mine without tomato, but of course it was still on there - not a big deal and easily removed. It came with a side greek salad and it would have been nice if she mentioned it was a tomato based salad - tomato, peppers, cucumbers with feta and olives. Since I'm not a tomato fan, there wasn't much to it. Service was pretty good - definitely a great place for fresh seafood! read more

First the bad. My wahoo was supposed to be cooked medium rare. About 2 oz was cook all the way threw and the other 6 oz was rare. I mean Blue of you no what the term means. Secondly our server was ok at best. Bare minimum service. Took the order and dropped it off. The was another server that cleared our table between courses. See was the one who attempted to explain to me about the rare fish. The sea bass was absolutely stunning though. The salad was good and the calamari might be the best I have ever had in this town. I have been dining at Paula's for years now. Out-of-town relatives that come to celebrate different life events always remark on its quality - which speaks to the fact that it's not just good seafood for being in the Midwest - it somehow manages to be great seafood, period. For a special day, the crab legs are the way to go. But the bread, wedge salad, crab cake, fried oysters (especially the included sauces), and scallops are also always phenomenal and keep us coming back. Would also recommend the calamari!! I love the way everything is fresh and breaded perfectly with whatever the dish calls for. Inventive, tasty variety of aiolis, too. Service is great, ambiance is great - I can't recommend it enough. Husband's Ciopino had mussels, 3 tiny bay scallops & clams in a red sauce, not ONE shrimp and some minced pieces of some white fish- $38.95. He had it on our first visit and it was loaded with shrimp, ocean scallops, mussels, clams, large pieces of white fish. One crabcake (delicious) was $24.95. Smoked salmon platter (excellent).
