Pineapple boat

Wasn't bad. Stopped here because every place in Fort Wayne had an hour plus wait last night. Chips were really good. We ordered jalapeño margaritas, but weren't sure they actually had any tequila at all. Ok flavor. I love oysters so we got the oysters especial. Tasted kinda slimey. Not fresh. My husband had this big pineapple boat filled with seafood and said it tasted great. Came with garlic bread which seemed odd....I got a big bowl of spicy soup stuff called molcajete marinero. It was mainly red onions. A few oysters around the edges (still weirdly slimey) and shrimp. I did see some octopus in there too. Overall, we probably wouldn't come back. Service was ok. Atmosphere fine. But food was really not to our liking. Definitely a different menu and a bit hard to read. If you're up for a culinary adventure, give it a try!

Not bad for a Mexican restaurant specializing in seafood! The place was clean, and the staff were friendly. However, if you're looking for exceptional seafood, I recommend trying Paola's or the Oyster Bar. I felt the prices were a bit high for the food I received.

It has a fun atmosphere while still being perfect for a nice dinner or date night. One of my personal favorites is the steak and eggs, and I love that you can get it during both brunch AND lunch! There are so many great choices on the menu, though, and everything we've tried has been delicious. And you HAVE to try the carrot cake. It is GINORMOUS and absolutely delicious! Definitely big enough to share--or eat some there and take the rest home for later, which is usually the better plan. We really love this place and have never been disappointed. Great food, great drinks, great service, and just an all-around great Fort Wayne restaurant. Definitely one of our favorites and a place we highly recommend!

The restaurant had a wonderfully lively atmosphere, yet it never felt too loud or overwhelming. Our server, Caity, was fantastic. She went above and beyond to make us feel welcome, and her hospitality made our evening very special. EVERYTHING she suggested was perfection. We had and enjoyed their signature Crab Cakes, Sea Bass, and Beignets. If drinking alcohol try the marvelous Old Fashioned, and if not drinking alcohol try the refreshing Lemon Meringue. Caity made our night unforgettable. 1,000 stars all the way! We will definitely be back.

We were in Fort Wayne for a quick overnight business trip where my wife and I decided to try Oyster…read moreBar after some locals raved about it . As a seafood lover, I was sold just based on the name alone The building itself is pretty cool. We were told it dates back to the 1880s and is the 2nd oldest building in Indiana behind some other one in Indianapolis. You can definitely feel the history when you walk in. The place is small, with only about 14 tables, and everything is packed in pretty tight, but that's part of what gives it character. The old bar immediately grabbed my attention and looked like it hadn't changed much in over a century We started with the Parmesan baked oysters, which were outstanding and surprisingly fresh for being in the Midwest The homemade clam chowder was loaded with clams and flavor. It was so good it didn't need anything added to it. We also ordered a couple of smoked Old Fashioneds that were a great way to start the night I wanted sea bass, but they were out, so I went with the walleye fish and chips. It's honestly hard for me to pass up fish and chips when they're on a menu, I'm glad I did. The fish was well-seasoned and on point My wife went with a seafood combo that included seafood au gratin, bay scallops, shrimp, crab, applewood bacon risotto, and baked in a lobster creamy sauce Being in Fort Wayne for just one night, this ended up being a great find. The food was excellent, the service was friendly (Shoutout Lindsay) and the whole place had a nostalgic feel that made the experience even better If you're passing through and in the mood for seafood or live locally, I'd definitely recommend checking it out!

The Oyster Bar - 130 years of history for this iconic seafood establishment…read more The Oyster Bar is not for everyone. It is expensive. The restaurant only holds about 50 dinners and the tables are uncomfortably small & close together. It's also located in a neighborhood that might make some people take caution. On the flip side...The Oyster Bar offers 130 years of history in a uniquely older facility that features fresh high quality seafood along with outstanding service. You decide what you value and how you want to spend your dinning dollars. The Oyster Bar is located south of downtown area on Calhoun Street. The vintage building is well signed, lighted and offers an easy-in-easy-out side parking lot. The restaurant only holds about 50 dinners with a limited number of tables and a small bar. I would suggest that you call and make a reservation as The Oyster Bar is a fairly popular place to dine. Inside the building has retained the historic look. The foyer is very small...just like walking into an old house. They feature lots of dark hardwoods and a vintage looking bar. The tables are located very close together as you would expect in a small area. I think the tables are smaller in size as it was difficult to accommodate all the dishes, menus, glasses and cell phones. The white table linens and attractive "sea going" decor help set the experience. The staff on this night was very friendly, professional and helpful. They made us feel welcomed quickly. The waitress was great about removing dishes, refills and stopping to check on us. It's easier when all your tables are close together. Overall the food was excellent. Fresh seafood in Fort Wayne isn't common place. The food creations were delicious & creative without being all that unique. You will find a fairly broad menu to meet most dinner's choices. Here is a run down on the items we ordered: -Calm Chowder: very creamy without being overly rich to taste; moderately thick in consistency with a mild clam flavor; several larger pieces of clam meat; very good taste -Oysters on the half shell: beautiful presentation; oysters were fresh taste; no salty or "sea" tastes/smells; a small dab of sweet cocktail sauce and ground horseradish were nice add; oysters were outstanding!! -Fried Hushpuppies: no corn meal breading here. The outside was lightly fried and slightly oily to taste. The inside was slightly sweet, soft and moist. The chipotle aioli sauce has a very mild southwestern flavor that accented the sweet breading. -Crab Cakes: two fairly large cakes packed with real crab meat; gently fried; the fresh seafood flavors come through nicely; another very good dish! -Seafood Au Gratin: plenty of chunks of scallops and crab buried in a delicious lobster cream sauce and layer of mozzarella cheese. The sauce was creamy and mild without being rich. The seafood pieces retained their original flavor. The cheese topping was nice and gooey which held the seafood & sauce together nicely. Delicious dish!! -Diver Scallops: large and plump scallops cooked perfectly; very tender and moist without a "fishy" taste - nicely done!! I very much enjoyed the dinning experience. I love restaurants that retain and feature an older buildings character. I appreciate high levels of service and outstandingly delicious food. Especially when it comes to fresh seafood!!

Big Eyed Fish on Wells Street - when you have a craving for Fish & Stroh style fish and tarter…read moresauce Yes, I know that I could go to Stroh to get this old time flavor. However, Big Eyed Fish is pretty good fish in its own right, local...and flavored like the taste I remember from the past. We visited the Big Eyed Fish location on Well's street. They have an express shop located on Huegenard Road and another dine in location at Leo Crossing. This location has been in service since 2003. It has a nice diner feel with super friendly service. You can find parking on the street or in the lot behind the store. The inside is rather large and works well for parties up to about 8 diners. There is a small bar and TV's if that is your thing. They also have a big and varied menu including breakfast items. Here is a run down of the food items: -Fried Fish: the white fish fillet is thin and fried with a thin breading. The fish is moist and tender. It will flake apart with a fork or by hand. The breading has a slight amount of seasoning and isn't very oily to taste. It has a taste similar to the Fish & Stroh style if you are familiar with that. The fillets are not very filling. For an extra $3...I went with the all you can eat option. Delicious fish! -Tarter Sauce: I love tarter sauce. In fact I might order fish to go with my tarter sauce - lol. This mayo based sauce is reasonably thick, somewhat sweet and has a hint of pickle flavoring. It's creamy and makes a perfect complement to the fried fish flavor. -Baked Beans: this side really surprised me. The bean is small and contained hamburger pieces. The sauce had a slight BBQ flavor but not enough to classify it as a BBQ baked bean dish. The meat flavor was a nice add to the smooth tomato spiced sauce. Delicious!! -Cole Slaw: I kind of use KFC as the standard for Cole Slaw. This is very similar. The slaw pieces are cut very small with only one kind of slaw. Seemingly no additives - just slaw. The sauce is mayo based, a bit more sweet along with a hint of vinegar. I loved this side too! -Hush Puppies: these balls are pretty small in diameter. The inside is very modista and sweet with that southern style corn bread taste. The outside is thicker, a bit oily to taste and has a mild corn bread taste/texture. These are probably some of the best hush puppies I've had in my southern raised life.

Tonights experience was not quite what we've come to expect. We were greeted and warmly welcomed by the hostess. Seated promptly. Love the modern decor and atmosphere, especially with its' open kitchen! Our server was very friendly. Took about 20 minutes to get the beverages we ordered, but an apology was offered, and everything was delivered to our table promptly thereafter, and with a genuine smile. She was actually EXCELLENT, and acted as though it was a pleasure to serve us! French Onion Soup is one of the best in this area. Broth is complex and delicious. Authentic! So good, forgot to take a pic until it was nearly gone! Entrees came w/choice of salad. We both chose the never-disappointing house chopped salad. Hubby got the NY Strip, perfectly grilled, accompanied by fabulous herb-roasted baby potatoes (highly recommend!) and fresh green beans. I chose the hangar steak with herb-cheesy mashed potato and asparagus sides. Steak was exactly as ordered! Asparagus was surprisingly very thin, dry, and not of the usual CHOPS quality we've come to expect. Happened to be hubby's BD, and he was treated to a moist, chocolaty brownie sundae (candle and all!). Overall a great evening, just a couple of glitches that made us take away 1/2 star...BUT! We definitely will be back to this favorite dining location!

The food remains great, the service is good, the problem is there is no pride in keeping the public areas clean. A few months ago it was the amount in dust on the bar shelves. Several times the entry door and floor was obviously not cleaned for more than a day. Friday I booked a business lunch and at noon, the floors hadn't been cleaned from the previous business day. The men's room was dirty. It makes me wonder how clean the kitchen is , if there is no pride taken in the presentation of the other areas of the restaurant. I'm okay with the exception, but now it is common not to expect a clean environment at Chops. Outside of an occasional carryout, my dine-in is most likely done.

We went to the Trolley Bar to have the salad bar tonight, but for the first time in my 40 - odd…read moreyears of paying my own way at a restaurant, I suggested we drink our beers and leave without eating, even though we had ordered the salad bar and a French Onion soup. The reason(s)? Let me explain in detail: The restaurant was practically empty at 6 pm on a Sunday night (not a good sign); we were seated at a 4 top about parallel with the bar, where we observed a waitress chowing down on a piece of cheesecake at the bar, not 10 feet from us (she left the rest to come back to later). No one wants to see staff eating or drinking and then preparing or serving food. We ordered a salad bar each, at $17.99 per person, and my wife added on a French Onion soup. I went to the washroom and saw that they had 2 containers of soap (that were supposed to be in wall - mount dispensers) on either side of the sink. However, only the one on the right actually worked. I turned to leave, and saw that the toilet paper was sitting on top of the hand bar, instead of the holder, which appeared to be missing a piece. By the door, they have a baby changing table with various cleaning items underneath (not a huge deal, but no one wants to see the inside of a custodian's closet). I returned from the washroom and we subsequently approached the salad bar, only to find about 6 plates, and a few scraps of burnt (rusty) lettuce in each of the three bowls. I said to my wife, "I'm sorry, I'm not eating this. Let's go somewhere else." I waived the waitress over, who dropped off some bread that looked like it was a week old and had been deep fried, and told her that we would pay for our beers and leave. I told her that the salad bar lettuce was burnt, and we weren't going to eat it. As we finished our beers, the manager came over and said he heard that we had issues with the salad bar. I asked him if he had a moment, and we walked over to the salad bar, where they had refilled one bowl of lettuce. I picked up a piece of rusty lettuce from another, smaller bowl, and explained that the big bowl had the same burnt lettuce in it. I also showed him the pictures of the washroom, and explained, for context, that I am a certified executive chef. The manager was so apologetic that he even took the salad bar off of our bill...which was generous considering we hadn't eaten one bit of it. All in all, he was patronizing and unapologetic, which was extremely disappointing considering I was very respectful and was actually trying to help the Trolley Bar to not lose more customers (which, as a 40 year veteran of the hospitality industry, is my duty). The ONLY reason I gave one star (other than that it's not possible to give 0 stars) is that the beer glasses were cold. Other than that, we will never return, even though we have had 3 - 4 good meals there in the past. Good luck in the future. I would suggest implementing a staff training plan as soon as possible.
