This is our regular taco spot. Easily some of the best in Fort Wayne. The food is always fresh and people are very nice. They try to be as efficient as possible because typically there seems to a lot going on. I get the chorizo tacos and the asada tacos. Yum. read more

We went for a late lunch and we were seated briskly. The waitress took our drink orders and I asked for chips & salsa. They are $2.95 with one free refill. The drinks & chips came quickly and our orders were taken. It was a normal wait time for food but we did not see the waitress again until food was delivered. We had to ask for drink refills but no offer was made for the free refill. She came back to the table once more to ask if we wanted our bill and did offer the refill at that time. I had shrimp tostados and my husband had taco salad. Ambience was your typical Mexican decor. The restaurant is in a small strip mall on a busy street. This was our first time eating at El Taquero today for lunch. Walking into the restaurant we were met with smiling faces greeting us as we walked in. A great atmosphere for a smaller Mexican restaurant. Very clean and organized with great big booths to seat your whole family. Our waitress was excellent giving us top notch service. All the food we ordered came out fast and piping hot. The birria quesa taco dinner, was delicious and was the most popular among the table. Even the Horchata has great taste. However the only negative that we found is the chips and salsa do not come with the meal. You have to pay a small amount to add the chips and salsa. Besides paying for the chips and salsa all the prices were very good prices and we are excited to come back and try more amazing dishes! read more

Let's get right into it. The bar sales are all final because if you get the alcohol drinks like tamarind or mango they mix it with tap water for whatever reason not known to mankind that'll linger in your taste buds and it'll be very noticeable that you'd be bound to ask for a refund or a replacement non alcoholic drink and those are so full of sugar that you opt-out quenching your thirst. My drinks literally tasted like sewer water darn near. My fajita was so-so could've stand to be more authentically flavored. And oddly, the only Mexican restaurant I have been to cross country that serves no compliment Chips and Salsa. Most likely won't be going back and hoping they invest in filter water. read more

I ordered from this place to try their delicious looking birra quesa tacos. I was SOOOOOO disappointed. They were incredibly bland. The consommé they give you to dip them in, tastes like a bowl of grease. Zero flavor. The tortillas just tasted like grease as well. Unflavored grease. So much value for the money! Before tops, I paid $15 for a meal and drink. I got the birria taco dinner with the birria stew. I'm not well versed in birria but I very much enjoyed it. Our service was friendly and the food was served quickly. The restaurant is more spacious than you'd expect just looking at the storefront. They have large booths that can fit the whole family (or if you're like me and my friend, all of your jackets and layers during the wintertime) I wish this place was open a little bit later, but other than that, no complaints! We arrived about 730. Stood at the front for a few minutes. When approached she said they closed at 8 and said we needed to get our order in. Well, she sat another table after us as well. It seemed like a problem that we were coming in to eat dinner at 730. I asked for a on the rocks original lime margarita. I was brought a frozen lime margarita and I sent it back. My daughter's taco didn't come with cheese just meat and a shell? I didn't know a taco for a kids didn't come with cheese and we would be charged 90 cents??? Just meat came on the taco when I requested meat and cheese to begin with. I asked about the cheese and told her yes I'll take the charge I guess but never got the cheese. Kids meals don't get kids drinks either and was rang up for a full price soda???. Our food came out warm so not too enjoyable eating something that wasn't hot. We ended up taking the taco home and putting cheese on it and eating it. The waitress just seemed annoyed with me because I was asking questions. Last couple times I've been I had great service and nothing ever has been an issue. This time around, made me not want to come back. No free chips and salsa, but the rest of the prices on the menu reflect as such. Very reasonably priced, full bar, and it's worth every penny. The salsa is the best I've had from any Mexican restaurant in Fort wayne. The choriqueso is pretty damn good too! My beautiful wife always gets the arroz con Pollo, and I get what's in the picture. I can explain enough how flavorful the consomme is. I've read another review stating it was bland but I've never experienced that. The tacos are perfectly crisp but with just enough give, and the beef is extremely tender and juicy. The service is always on point and the food comes are quickly. I have nothing bad to say about this place other than it'll keep me from eating at any other Mexican joint for as long as they keep the menu as it is. The wife and I stopped in today at this establishment. We heard about how great it was from a friend and had ordered to take out earlier in the week. It was tasty but suffered from common take out problems such as food temperature and consistency (soggy due to steam) 100% not the restaurant's fault. So we figured we would try them dine in This isn't the typical place that has chips and salsa on the table. And to be honest, I don't even care about that. If you want chips and salsa, it's 2.95. Either way, we didn't fill up on that so that was fine by me We reorders the elote in a cup again because it was just So delicious. I ordered 3 tacos al pastor and she had 2 tacos with asada. This is hands down THE BEST pastor tacos I have ever had. So delicious. The corn tortillas were perfect. I would definitely get this again and again. We had an appetizer with French fries , queso, guacamole,, and choice of meat. We chose asada. This was very good but I think I would prefer it with the pastor pork. The location is clean and the atmosphere is nice with typical Spanish music playing at a good volume and some sports on the tv. Our server , Alberto, was very kind and on top of our needs. I will 100% be back and looking forward to trying new things on the menu. This place has the best taco salad. I went here for lunch. I seen they had sopes. I was going to order tacos and a sope. Someone at the table recommended I try the taco salad. Most places disappoint when it comes to the taco salad. The meat has no flavor and the tortilla shell is mushy by the time you eat the bottom. Their taco salad is worth every bite. The place they messed up was with the sope. It was hard and missing a slice of avocado. I also had outside of this experience their corn in a cup. It is worth trying too. read more

The person who said the birria quesa tacos were bland needs a Covid test, because those tacos were exceptionally beefy and cheesy and redolent of cilantro and onions without being too salty, and the au jus-like dipping broth complemented them well. Make sure that you have the person who placed the order actually pick it up, though, because based on the suspicious reaction at the cash register it seems like the birria quesa is so popular that some people are walking off with other customers' orders of them. When I go to a Mexican restaurant for the first time, I often order the horchata, not only because I love it, but also because it's typically a menu item aimed at the non-American clientele and a good measure of how seriously the restaurant takes its food. In the case of El Taquero, what I got was very fresh, clearly not from a mix (I would know, I use horchata mix at home) and rivals Momofuku Milk Bar's cereal milk for flavor and deliciousness. We also tried the elote in a cup and the papas taqueras with pork al pastor. The papas taqueras were delicious - I'm going to go back for seconds in a minute here - but of the two, the elote was the real standout. You get a full 18-oz clear Solo cup full of creamy, spiced corn kernels, and no messy cob or stick standing between you and elote happiness. I tasted crystallized lime juice in their chili spice mix, so it's probably got some Tajin in it. Honestly, as someone who's lived in some of the most diverse areas of the country my whole life, I am genuinely impressed with Fort Wayne's international food game. This restaurant beats the pants off more of the Mexican I had in Spanish Harlem than I feel comfortable admitting, but there you have it. read more

Just tried their birria tacos. They were stuffed with fall apart beef. The seasoned crunchy shells were lined with cilantro coated cheese. The broth to dip them in was very flavorful. We now have a new favorite spot for Mexican. My husband tried an array of their tacos loving them all but preferring the beef. Be sure to get their queso for an appetizer too. read more
