I hate to leave this review and I actually gave it two stars because the decor is absolutely beautiful. The murals makes you feel like you could possibly be in Mexico the country. The best part of this restaurant was the murals and the great customer service from my waitress that I can't remember her name but she was amazing. But I have to be honest about the food I love red snapper any restaurant that I have gone to in the last 20 years that have red snapper - thats my #1 choice. So needless to say, I've had my fair share. So I was so happy to see that they had red snapper on the menu and it was actually the most expensive item on the menu. However as you see pictured this poor snapper shaking my head emoji. Firstly , the presentation in itself looks like throw up the sauce on top of it just made it look worse. It should've been a little bit more grilled maybe some blackened but it was completely flavourless and just made with absolutely no love compared to authentic Restaurants. The salsa for the chips was also watered down and flavourless. I definitely wouldn't be coming back here, but if you're looking for Insta photos this is the place. read more

Their food is good, but their service is horrible. Our family has not been back for two years for that reason. We decided to give it another chance today. After today we will not be coming back. Our waiter was not warm or welcoming. He seemed irritated to receive any patrons. There was an older couple who had a female waitress and then us with the male waiter. That's it. Not busy. So why the visible irritation to have us? We had him years ago and his demeanor is the exact same. We are a friendly family and always tip well. To not give much effort on his end makes zero sense. It's common sense to provide a good experience for your patrons. We should not have to ask for refills of everything or even napkins. "Is there anything else?" after being annoyed for the simplest task, a task that would not take extra time if he had just done it to begin with. Our food was flavorful but not hot. The basket of chips was laughable. A tiny amount with equally little salsa. Not worth your money. There is probably a reason they're never busy. If I was the owner I would have a little pow wow with everyone and remind them the survival and success of your business relies on happy AND RETURNING customers! read more

Wayne salsa ever) were included free. Ambience: (check). Trendy redesigned restaurant and brand. The kitchen has been walled off with a floor to ceiling accent wall. Restaurant cafe style tables and chairs sit atop modern light colored wood flooring. Low lighting. Brick. Minimalist. Food: OMG (check). I ordered the queso which was smooth, rich and sprinkled with diced tomato. It was followed by an entree of cubed pork stewed in an authentic Mexican red sauce with creamy refried beans hugging a small portion of their fluffy and flavorful Spanish rice. This dish was spiced with precision and intention. It was splendid. I couldn't stop eating! I was so upset that I had waited so long to give La Fogata another chance. This is a great find in Ft. Wayne, IN. We walk in and it's very trendy on the inside. There are, I would say about 20 tables or so. The menu options are adequate for the size of the restaurant. They can only serve beer, as they do not have a liquor license, but do not let that hinder your decision to try this place. We were greeted promptly and offered fresh homemade tortilla chips, salsa, and pickled vegetables (carrots, onions, and jalapeños). I ordered the steak tampiquena, which offered a delicious and juicy steak, grilled sweet onion, rice, refried beans, and flour or corn tortillas. The hubby got chorizo burrito, which was stuffed with chorizo, lettuce, tomato, onion, and refried beans. It was served with rice. Everything was fresh and delicious. We spent the weekend in Ft.Wayne and just wanted some authentic mexican food. My husband is mexican, so he can be a bit picky about the mexican food he eats. When we saw this place had Elotes, Tortas, and Pasole we knew we had to check it out. We are soo glad we did. The Elote was wonderful! The tortas we re delicious. I ordered the pollo torta. Chicken was flavorful, bread was crispy. Just delicious. My husband ordered the beef torta ad devoured it. He also ordered the Pasole to go. We were expecting a small soup container, but got a large container, plus a container with warm tortillas. I couldn't bring myself to try the Pasole, but my husband said it was delicious. La Fogata is sadly a case of style over substance. I recently had lunch there with five of my coworkers, and we did not have a good experience. If you want a great, authentic mexican food experience you may want to go elsewhere. Let's discuss the good things first. The interior seemed clean and very modern in design. There was a large wooden accent wall with the restaurants logo burned into it. Our server did a great job taking care of us, and was very friendly. The food is where the problems started. The salsa was completely devoid of flavor, and very spicy. I would rather have canned picante sauce than be served that stuff again. The server also brought us a small bowl of jalapeno peppers and sliced veggies in a pickling solution. The brine was overly sweet and one note. The veggies were not pickled yet, so the result was a bowl of raw peppers and vegetables served in a grossly sweet sauce. I ordered the Tacos La Fogata. They are advertised as, "Two flour tortillas stuffed with mounds of our house favorite steak, mixed with onions, tomatoes, jalapenos, cheese and refried beans. Served with side salad and rice." These tacos were actually pretty good quesadillas. They were almost entirely steak and cheese, I did not see or taste tomatoes or beans. The flavor was much like a philly cheese steak. Not bad, but not what was advertised or what I thought I was ordering. The rice it was served with was very meager, and barely gave four bites. The side salad was a handful of lettuce with six diced tomatoes on top. No dressing or anything else that you might think would be on a salad. One of my coworkers ordered the enchilada dish. He described it as microwaved with cold spots in the center. My boss ordered the carne asada tacos. When they came out, he said, "Oh, these are petite tacos!" They were indeed very small. Everyone agreed that portion sizes were tiny, especially the sides. I came to this place based upon good online reviews. Those reviews were very out of date. read more

It's hard to go wrong with Mexican food IMO, but La Fogata is definitely doing it right! You can find the restaurant right next to the historic Clyde Theatre in Quimby Village. We stopped in on a weekday for dinner and sadly we were the only ones in the dining room. The interior isn't huge but there is a mixture of booths and tables for plenty of seating. It is bright and decorated traditionally. Our waiter was friendly and very personable. He made it a point to chat with our table and we loved that! The salsa was fantastic! It had some warmth but it tasted fresh along with the chips. The only downfall to the meal was that they do not serve Margaritas. Luckily they off beer, so I went with a Corona. I decided to order the special of the night which was Enchiladas Verdes. There was plenty of food and it was presented nicely. The verde sauce added great flavor to the entree and I enjoyed the meal! La Fogata is an amazingly authentic Mexican restaurant. The chips and salsa were very tasty and they were served with fresh and warm chips and picked carrots. (Incredible!) it was some of the best salsa I had ever had in my life. We also got some guacamole, which was freshly made after we ordered it, and delightful as well. When it comes to the main entrees, I got a carne asada burrito with lettuce, cheese, beans, and onions. It was great and very rich in flavor. Another person got three tacos, steak, pork, and chorizo. He says the the pork had a strong seasoning that was not to his liking. He also said the the chorizo was great, but if he were to go again, he would get all three tacos steak, as he said that it was the best of the three. The kids meal was good. Another person in my party got a serving of shrimp fajitas, which came on a sizzling skillet! They were great! The service was amazing. Are you freaking kidding me? This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Fort Wayne. This place has been here ever since I can remember when back in the 1980s, they were called EL-Ray, years later name changed and today it's La Fogata. They remolded it again! It's really cleared out, basic tables kind of like a cafeteria style. Same nice Mexican family own this place. Authentic food, great beef enchiladas, tacos, beef tacos, burrito's, nachos, skillet fryers. The beans and rice are very good as well. Wide selection of beverages including Mexican flavored pop, orange, lime, and all them authentic drinks. The taco's are good as George's! They serve up some pretty mean chips too! love the chips dipped right down into the bean dip! It's really good. Place is right next door to the Clyde so you can't miss it if you're a looking. I love the 2 beef enchiladas with beans and rice, that's one you can't go wrong with. I live a little on the wild side and get them Mexican sausage tacos! Fires up my anus a little in the after hours , but it's pretty good. That second basket of chips might cost you? I'm not sure? they are pretty addicting. I doubt I go to the Clyde next door, but I will be in to see these Mexican friends for another dinner and a dinner to come time and time again time after time. Now the bad, I ordered four tacos and two sandwiches which took almost 30 minutes to receive. Secondly the chicken Torta and the chicken taco were terrible. I mean horrible. It was boiled unseasoned chicken, they did nothing to it. Dry flavorless chicken. When 50% of my dinner sucks I can dare say I will not return. Even for that bomb ass salsa. We've had lunch at La Fogata three times in the last year, once since the renovations, and wow. Prior to the reopening, I might have been tempted to go 4 stars (due to ambiance) but with a freshly updated interior and parking lot, this place is fantastic. Freebies to enhance your meal include a cup of escabeche (pickled veggies featuring carrot and jalapeno, like Italian giardiniera) and a bowl of fideo soup (vermicelli noodles in a flavorful broth that's somehow both rich and light simultaneously). The chips and salsa are terrific, but the soup and escabeche speak to the level of authenticity here. Finally, service was terrific all three visits. This is a family-run restaurant, and the depth of character shows. After hanging on during rough times while the shopping plaza struggled, La Fogata deserves to be part of its renaissance. I love authentic Mexican food. Clearly, we were onto something here... we had struck gold:) I had the Tacos Al Pastor and my wife got chicken fajitas lunch special. Both were incredible. I've never had tacos al pastor, but always wanted to try one. I got them with cilantro, onion and lime on soft corn tortillas... Im getting emotional thinking of the short time we shared together. We laughed. We loved. We cried. All at one table. I miss them, but it's important to remember all the good times I shared with those tacos, and that they'll always live on in my heart... Their guacamole is super fresh and their chips are nice and thick; not thin and crumbly like chili's. We asked how long they'd been here... I was shocked when they said 15 years. I HAD NO IDEA. I'm so glad someone told me about it or I'd have never found it! We are definitely going back. Someday soon I'll be together again with my tacos al pastor, just like old times. I just finished my last sip of Modelo during my fourth visit to La Fogata, and it was oh so sweet. This place is one of my favorites! Tucked in between the new Clyde theater and a vacant Dollar Tree in a strip mall on the northern tip of Bluffton road rests a pinkish building that houses some of the best Hispanic food in Fort Wayne. It's a bit difficult to put into words, but each meal that I have at La Fogata feels like it was made with special care, just for me. Unlike a typical Mexican restaurant, La Fogata's menu doesn't consist of five pages of different variations on burritos, enchiladas, and chimichangas. By comparison, the menu is quite short, but the dishes they offer are prepared with exquisite skill. I recommend the Alambres, the Chorizo Queso appetizer, and the Horchata. On top of the food, the staff is incredibly courteous and friendly, making me always feel like a friend when I walk in the door. The way I see it, La Fogata is the best Hispanic place in town, but it has two drawbacks when compared to a more traditional Mexican restaurant: 1.) No Margaritas (they have beer, though) 2.) A smaller menu (picky eaters beware) If you're looking for an authentic Mexican place that's a bit outside the box, La Fogata is the place for you! read more

Came here for lunch the other day and it was fantastic. Salsa is great, the pickled onions/carrots/jalapeños are the right amount of spice, queso a la Mexicana was a great portion. I got the carne asada burrito, best carne asada I've had in Fort Wayne. Fiance got the pastor torta (his go to there), he loved every bite. Great Mexican food in a little known spot. This place is a little hard to find, and the parking lot can get pretty rough after a hard winter, but the food is more than worth it in my opinion. The salsa tends to be quite spicy (but very good), the queso dip (with or without chorizo) and guacamole is about as good as you can get in Fort Wayne. Their Carne Asada dishes use real skirt steak and proper seasoning. My favorite is the Carne ala Tampiquena - a huge piece of skirt steak with a cheese enchilada, guacamole, rice & beans. read more

After seeing all the good reviews, I was really excited to try a new place for Mexican. We went on a Friday night, and surprisingly there weren't a lot of people. It's a cute place, and nicely decorated. We were promptly greeted and sat. The salsa was just ok, which to me is always a bad sign. It was too runny, and I can see it being to spicy for some gringos. I couldn't find anything on the menu that looked good, so I got fajitas. The meat had little flavor, and the onions & peppers were cut so huge that I struggled to put them in my corn tortillas. In addition, it was served with only lettuce and a spec of Pico (no cheese). I would've asked for cheese and more Pico, but server never came to check on us. My significant other had a burrito. She said it was very forgettable, and didn't even finish it. Sooo...a huge disappointment. Won't be back, but at least we tried :-( read more

Stopped for dinner with my wife on a Friday Night. The service was outstanding!! Not just our server, but all the servers I observed were very very nice and helpful. The chips were delicious and served hot. The salsa was very spicy and to hot for our liking. We ordered the guacamole as an appetizer. My wife loved it! I had the steak tacos. They were some of the best I have had! The meat was moist and juicy and it came with onions peppers cheese and beans . My wife had the chicken fajita. She says ... "yum"! It is a large serving. Overall the service excellent and dinner excellent. Could not give 5 stars because the dinning room itself was lacking. They really need to work on some flooring beyond concrete. read more
