The latte was smooth and not overly sweet, and the croissant was fresh, flaky, and surprisingly good for a hotel grab-and-go spot. I also loved that they had small essentials on hand, perfect for travelers like me who always forget something. The staff were friendly and quick, even during the busy morning rush, and the atmosphere feels relaxed and welcoming. They have always been very welcoming and supportive of the many runners that participate. They always keep up with the orders of the runners that line up at 7:09am when they open. Yesterday when I was waiting in line, someone inquired about this large running group. He was from Las Vegas, and he worked for the Spurs. He let us know they were promoting Spurs Week and were offering free coffee to anyone who scans the QR code and presents the Spurs Fan page to the cashier. I did it and got my free coffee: an iced Latte with sugar free vanilla syrup. After they take your order, they prepare it and present it at the side window. There was a very short wait to receive it. The iced coffee was refreshing on a warm morning. Their patio has ample tables and chairs for sitting and enjoying the coffee. There is also a patio in the back for additional patrons. The restaurant is extremely pet friendly, and there are always dogs along with their owners, making it a very happy place!. They have a quirky vending machine with small pieces of Austin-related art for sale. À very Austin offering! Jo's Coffee on Congress Avenue is famous for the sign on the side, "I love you so much." She said it was because some people would set up and work all day, but if I had my laptop out, no one would bother me. But like three seconds after taking out my laptop, someone who might've been a manager told me I couldn't, that they wanted customers to sit and chat with one another. Never mind that I was alone, no one else in the seating area I was in. And this was after I'd gotten breakfast, coffee, and pastry. I told her someone said it was fine and she just said she was sorry someone told me that. No 'it's ok for now,' or 'as long as you're eating' or any other sort of gesture to make me feel like I wasn't unwelcome. So I was upset about that. Like WHY no laptops? Why not a time limit on the tables, if that was the problem? Could I bring a tablet instead? I could write on my phone if I wanted carpal tunnel. What does it matter what I do if I'm not bothering other ppl and not staying more than an hour or two? I understand their problem, but the solution just serves to deter solo patrons.

Measured against that standard, President's House acquitted itself well. I stopped here once for lunch and once for breakfast and found a decent selection both times. They have plenty of coffee drinks, of course, but also pastries, sandwiches, bowls, and more. My first visit was a late lunch, and I opted for an Italian sandwich (soppressata, mortadella, prosciutto, provolone). "Adequate" would be the best way to describe it, but it was at least filling and, at $12, not outrageously priced. Breakfast the next day was better. The jalapeno cheddar sausage kolaches offered flaky dough and a nice bit of spice. The latte I had with it was smooth and provided a needed pre-conference pick-me-up. President's House also benefits from a decent amount of seating and friendly staff. For a quick breakfast before you leave to face the world, President's House was better than I expected.

I need to come back and try their other items like the matcha, food items, and coffee to see if it can regain a star.
