Went to have coffee latte and tried a slice of their coffee (mocha) cake. Great taste coffee and delicious coffee (mocha) cake. Pricey baked goodies, but it's worth the taste. Friendly serving staff and nicely painted and well decorated pastry shop. They should open late on Fridays and Saturdays. Street paid Parking is limited. Free WiFi.

Pastry Lu is exceptional. Lu truly is a wonder with a top notch recipe for every item in the case. The prices are typical Metuchen but every bite is totally worth it. The vibe is on point and just all in pink. Definitely Insta worthy. The service is always so friendly and the tray comes out absolutely . We can't say no to Pastry Lu when we visit Main Street. Great spot to chat and just relax in the morning.

TLDR: solid tres leches and a great store. Pastry Lu's natural light and comfortable seating make the cafe a wonderful spot to relax and hangout. One of the stores specialties is tres leches. The gentleman helping me stepped through the many varieties of tres leches. I got a personal coconut one and a larger one to share. Both were deliciously milky and fresh. The only issue was that the larger one didn't hold too well after 2 hours in the fridge - the cake was a little too soaked for my preference I'd come back again for a cake

Perfect place for dessert! It's decorated so cute and is bright and inviting. The staff is super nice and helpful and I love how they have a large display of all of their desserts! They have a wide range of options like cookies, brownies, cheesecakes, and tres leches. Everything is very well made and so delicious! Definitely recommend!!

After dinner we tried this super adorable pastry shop. We purchased four different pastries and two seasonal drinks. First of all, I recommend taking suggestions from the staff. The gentleman who assisted us was very helpful and honest. He made recommendations based off our personal preferences and the ratings reflect his success! They have dairy free options for their hot drinks. Each pastry was not too sweet and so tasty. The warm apple cider drink has me wishing I lived in NJ so I could have more! The pastry shop has a few really comfortable sitting options. It's not big enough to accommodate a large party but perfect for a party of four. We will be back when we come back into town.

Small, dainty bakery that makes very sweet, rich and divine latin inspired desserts. The sales girl was super friendly and welcoming. Got their whole flan, which was thick, creamy and melt in your mouth delicious with the right amount of caramel syrup to complement the custard. Their trifle cups are a must try. Had the tres leches and the tres leches with caramel. Very sweet but the flavors are all there and complement each other. There is a small seating area. And there is street parking. Will return to try more items

Incredible bakery and coffee shop in downtown. Service was impeccable with perfectly crafted trays of pastries, coffee, and quiches. Perfect spot to meet a friend for a morning coffee and sweet treat. Brightly colored interior with plants and many cute tables to sit at. Highly recommend the Captain Crunch Cookie!!

I love pastry Lu. So many choices including tres leches, pastries, cookies. My fave is the captain crunch cookie. It's massive and the perfect mix of sweet and salty. The interior is so cute too with plenty of seats to sit and enjoy your food. They have some savory croissants too to fill you up.

Fantastic location. Right on Main Street in metuchen. Yessssss.. parking is a mess here ! Very tough to get a parking and sometimes you have to park 5-10 mins away .. service was good : loved the interiors . Loved the colorful walls and interiors . They have really good pastries ! I just loved the chocolate croissants ! Just super fresh and yummy ! Also liked their cakes and coconut cookies ... had coconut cookies after a long time and it was really good . Slightly expensive but worth it . Good experience overall.

Cute small pastry shop with delicious cakes, cupcakes, cookies, brownies, coffees. You can purchase by cakes also by the slices. They have pre-sliced and boxed in their fridge. Everything looks and tastes delicious. I order 3 cupcakes: red velvet, chocolate oreo and chocolate pretzels with two coconut cookies. Yummy! Talk about sweets. There's also savory croissants as well. I will have to come back to try their Dominican dulce cake next time. Parking is off street and yes, it's metered. You can also pull into one of the parking lots as well. All parking is free Sunday in this town.

Excellent customer service with high quality pastries made fresh to order. This was my first time in this chic bakery and I was glad I gave it a try. Great art work on the wall with a Cozy inviting ambiance. Can't wait to return. Also the cinnamon roll was delicious!! The cream cheese frosting was excellent, the roll itself was flaky yet still moist at the same time. Beautiful presentation as well. Top tier experience!

I've passed by Pastry Lu and even window shopped at their old locations numerous times, and I'm sad to say that I only tried their famous tres leches last month! From the first bite, I knew this place would be five stars! Tres leches is one of my favorite desserts, so Pastry Lu really set the bar. My friend had said tres leches was their favorite dessert, so I was on the hunt for a tres leches cake for his birthday. It didn't take long to stumble upon Pastry Lu on Yelp. There were many glowing reviews so I figured I should give it a shot! Ordering a cake was simple and quick over phone, and picking up was even quicker! The beautiful pink and floral decor of the exterior caught my eye, and walking in made me realize how great of a wfh spot this would be. I loved the chalk menus and browsing through the various offerings. As a coffee fanatic, I'll need to take the time to get some. Upon first bites, the tres leches was already a hit with my coworkers and me. Probably the creamiest tres leches I've tried in the central jersey area. It was drenched in milk as it should be. Pastry Lu can also provide birthday toppers (though I was given a Happy Anniversary one in a funny mishap), which also made for a cute present. The shop sometimes has tres leches glass cakes in store, but it'll only be what flavors are available that day. There are also other cakes like cheesecake, tiramisu, etc. I wish there was a list of flavors available somewhere, but this has enticed me to keep coming back and try more. I came back and tried coffee and salted caramel tres leches in a cup, and I still dream about it. You get so much cake at that price point! In the glass cake, it serves 5-6 people but I think I could handle it on my own haha. So far I've tried the traditional and dulce de leche glass cakes, where both were amazing! Dulce de leche is on the sweeter side, so you may want another flavor for a friend with less of a sweet tooth. Thank you Pastry Lu for your service, happy to have another go to place for birthday cakes!

    Mango Tres Leches
    Aimee C.

What a cute little dessert shop in Metuchen! This place specializes in various cakes, cheesecakes, tres leches, cupcakes, and pastries (of course). Walking in, you are greeted by pink wall accents, smooth R&B music, and a wonderful display case of sweets! While I have had people rave about the banana pudding and various pastries here, what was truly irresistible to me were the different flavors of tres leches! I end up going with the Mango Tres Leches, and man, it truly did not disappoint! The mango puree on top was decadent, blending really well the creamy tres leches base. Best part about it is that there is a thin layer of mango puree on the bottom as well, so your last bite will not disappoint. For our friends who are handicap, there is a small step to get into the cafe. Accessible parking is not right at the door, but close by. Parking in general is a little bit of a hassle like any downtown area, but street parking is always around and the parking tower behind the train station. Definitely a cute small business that I recommend you stop by and support! They will be moving just down the street on May 30th, 2024.

After having my first peanut butter latte in Tucson that blew me away I was super excited to see a PB Banana latte here at Chapter 2. Unfortunately, the peanut butter was subtle and I think they forgot the ripe banana because I couldn't detect any. The espresso came through nicely though. We also got their almond crossiant. The cashier asked if I wanted it warmed up and I said yes. We waited and waited and by the time we were halfway done sipping our coffee, I had to go up to ask about it. The young girl actually gave me a straight face and acted like they didn't forget and when they served it to us it was not heated up. At that point I'm like why bother asking again. All-in-all it was okay. They do have a very exciting menu with interesting flavor combo lattes. Maybe I ordered the wrong drink? Probably won't return since I was not wowed on this first visit. It was at night on a Saturday so many of the shelves were empty but they still had a few things left. Sunmerry appears to be a chain but one that I have never visited before until now so I can't really comment on what they have, but I did manage to grab: MATCHA CLOUD DONUT - This reminded me vaguely of the im donut donuts I tried in NYC. Very soft and pillowy and filled to the brim with a lightly sweet, matcha filling. I honestly don't have anything negative to say about this. RED BEAN MATCHA BAGEL - it's a matcha dough with red bean filling BUT the filling doesn't go all the way around. It goes maybe 65% so if you're splitting this with someone like I did, fingers crossed you both get a decent amount. The bagel was soft and in a bagel shape but it lacked the chew of a bagel. The filling was nice and different but the matcha taste was subtle - if that. Overall, liked the idea, but I wanted more of a bagel chew than what I got and to taste the matcha better. Maybe even have a more even share of the red bean. COFFEE BRIOCHE LOAF - my husband liked this one! Which is good because I got it for him. This is quite good. Soft, lightly sweet with a coffee top. We ate this maybe 12 hours after and much of the top layer had "melted" and gotten on the cellophane but it was still delicious. Perfection. I definitely scraped off the coffee bits from the cellophane so it didn't go to waste. PINEAPPLE BUN W/ MILK - I grabbed this one thinking there was a filling inside and there wasn't. I don't know if the bun was placed in the wrong location or the name is telling me the bun isn't vegan but it's a good pineapple bun but without anything inside, it was a tad dry. Maybe it needs a pat of butter like they do in HK. MELON PAN - I haven't had this in a good long while so I got it for fun. It's smaller than the pineapple bun and the topping is a little sweeter - I remember crunching on sugar crystals. It's not bad but also not filled so it's a tiny bit on the dry side. The place has tables to the side where you can enjoy your goodies. I didn't stay too long but they definitely serve drinks and delicious cakes as well. The staff were nice and the place seemed on the dim side. Fingers crossed I can go back during the day to get a better idea of what they have! In the meantime, this is a good place for an Asian bakery fix. They do list out ingredients under the names of their baked goods so that's awesome! From what I could see, their baked goodies are likely not vegan or gluten-free friendly, though...

It's a bit of a drive for me, but when I'm in that area, I always make a point to stop in and pick up a couple of their delicious croissant-donut pastries and marzipan or almond croissants. That's the beauty of this bakery--it's a chain, yes, but the consistency is what keeps me coming back. I have yet to be disappointed. Of course, I had to stop at this Hilton Head location--and I didn't come empty-handed. Food connects people, and bringing pastries to your host is always a winning move. I picked up three different varieties of their famous croissant-donut style pastries (similar to the well-known cronut): * Chocolate * Tiramisu * Mango And I added two large almond croissants that were beautifully filled, flaky, and indulgent.
