Edison, NJ - I had a hankerin' for shaved ice and, after a quick Yelp consultation, discovered Meet…read moreFresh was a short walk from where we were having dinner. This dessert shop offers authentic Taiwanese treats featuring grass jelly, tofu pudding, taro mochi balls, red bean soup, and the aforementioned shaved ice, along with egg waffles, various teas and other beverages. The limited edition summer osmanthus series caught my eye, so I went for an osmanthus milk shaved ice, infused with condensed sweetened milk and osmanthus syrup, a cloud of almond tofu pudding on top, with mochi balls, red beans, and lychee jelly tucked around the base. The flavor of the cool fluffy shaved ice is subtly sweet, lightly creamy, with just a hint of floral, and the snow melts on your tongue. The osmanthus flavor is not very strong or fragrant, however, though I've never had successful encounters with commercial osmanthus-flavored things outside of Asia, as it's a very distinctive and delicate taste that's also one of my favorite scents and culinary condiments, so I'm very particular about its faithfulness. We ordered a large since it's only $1 more than the medium, so practically begs one to order the oversized version, which is enough for 2+ people to share. But why so enormous? How about offering a personal sized one for a little less? Premium as the ingredients are, $18 feels like a lot for shaved ice. Between us two adults and one small child we couldn't finish it, but I double dog dare you to try. It was good though, and satiated my craving for a proper milk snow dessert.

My first review still stands since it's only been a few months and I've been back a few more times…read more Each visit was great with no complaints. My kids love going here even though they aren't adventurous with flavors. BUT I finally tried their ice cream cake. You can order online if you want specific flavors and they usually have premade ones if you just walk in. I walked in and just ordered in person. It was a Just-Because-I-Want-It cake disguised as a belated birthday cake (which it was, but I got it because I wanted to try it). I got a 6" cake with taro and milk tea flavors inside and it came with two small cones of ice cream on top (I chose soursop and red bean for those). It is not what I expected. It is almost all ice cream with a very thin whipped cream type "frosting" on the outside - and sprinkles! - that made it look like a normal cake until you cut into it. No layer of actual flour-based cake inside. It's solid ice cream. Since it's perfectly sweet, it worked great! Also excellent for those who may have a wheat allergy (unless you get the cookie flavors) so now I'm considering one for my kid with food allergies (but not to milk). And that's the update to my review. Still a stellar place to get ice cream.

I am obsessed with this ice cream shop because:…read more The flavors are amazing! (Black sesame, Thai iced tea, etc). The owner is soooo sweet It's next to some of my favorite Asian food spots so it's a great place to end a meal with friends or to have a date night The only thing I don't love is it's not a picturesque location on route one and minimal seating but that doesn't stop me from coming here!
