I went to Roosterspin on a Sunday evening as part of a party of six. We were seated quickly, and…read moreour server was pretty attentive. I appreciate that there was a lil something for everyone, as I'm not a wing person like my friends are. I got the miso ramen and really enjoyed it. I also thought the music was great, and it didn't overpower our conversations.

I don't blame the waitstaff at all, as they are very kind, welcoming, and quick, in my experience. First, the food. The quality is fine, but I always find it a red flag when Asian restaurants are run by non-Asian people and there are no Asians in the crowd. "Authentic Korean" is just entirely not true, but I digress. The wings were quite good but expensive, and some of the menu items are absurd. Over $30 for a simple salmon was high to the point where I couldn't even try it to see if it was worth it. The drinks they have available are only high-end costs at mid end quality. I find a $26 New Jersey Riesling elsewhere more interesting than their $30-$56 selections. The soju and sake are insanely marked up and ridiculously priced. The food also takes quite a while to come out, even when they aren't busy at all. Plus, there's an automatic 20% gratuity charge. This didn't bother me, except for the fact that it is not only applied to food but to karaoke rooms. I found this very misleading. People do not expect to pay a 20% service charge on a room booking. This raised the $160/2 hrs to $192, and they refused to budge on this misleading application of the tip. Today, a group of my friends went to the karaoke room. Yesterday, Friday, May 8th, my friend called and they told him it was $55/hr. Today, it was $80/hr. The strange part is, when we said we weren't expecting the high cost, a man (I'm presuming the manager, but I'm not sure) claimed that no one would ever say that, even though a waitress said just minutes before that it was probably the new guy and she was sorry. Then, the man doubled down and said that yesterday, the charge would have been $55 but today (Saturday) it's $80. This makes even less sense to me because, upon checking afterward, the menu clearly says $55 Monday-Thursday, meaning that Friday would be the same cost as Saturday. So he clearly was lying to our faces that yesterday would have been the lower cost. I tried to verify this on the website, but it's so poorly built and disorganized that I can't even find the karaoke cost. I find this business model very confusing. I have no reason not to believe that lying on the phone + not including information on the website is so that people only choose to book the rooms when already inebriated. I would highly recommend avoiding this place. Support authentic (half the price!!) Korean restaurants instead.

I had heard about this place for years and finally decided to give it a try! Nestled in New…read moreBrunswick, this place is a little off the way of Rutgers making it feel a bit more elevated. Overall it is a nice vibe inside and the staff is friendly. We started with tuna sashimi which was tasty and felt like a good light appetizer, especially from the lemongrass broth. I ordered the pan roasted chicken which was delicious. It was tender, flavorful, and cooked very well making each bite enjoyable. My husband ordered the cacio pepe and was able to add scallops to it which added a unique twist to the usual pasta dish. Overall our experience was nice and our waiter was friendly. While it would have been nice if our waiter stopped by a bit more so we could get the check sooner, given that this is a college town, it didnt seem like a big deal to us if we had to wait a little longer for things like the check or placing our order - just something to keep in mind.

The appetizers were super expensive and such a ridiculously small amount. We had 4 in our party and got 2 appetizers to share but the portions were too small even for 1 person; the quail appetizer I think was $35! I had the veal chop, which cost $61 I think was just OK. My wife had halibut Special, and she thought just OK as well and high priced, and she finished it all which speaks to the portion size, because almost always she can't finish her entrée so that should tell you something. Point is that when you pay such a high price you at least hope for a meal that is much better than 'just ok'! We got after dinner drinks with desserts we were sharing and the desserts came out, but the drinks did not. We waited at least 20 minutes for the drinks where the waitress said there was a problem with the chocolate martini, which is a very basic drink. Not only did they not comp us anything re: the long wait, the dessert we ordered sticky pudding was dry and the ice cream that came with it was like a tablespoon size portion. We asked for a little more ice cream and to add salt to the wound they charged us $10. I mean come on guys lets get real, bad enough we finished our desserts waiting for the drinks, then you bang us $10 more for more ice cream that should have been served in the first place? The server should have at least mentioned the very long drink delay to the manager who should have done something! Maybe these are the kinds experiences leading to the 3 1/2 stars that they have in Yelp. They got our money but lost our business down the road, so their loss in the long run! Maybe the Manager will appreciate our honesty here.
