Had an overnight trip to Miami with my daughter and wanted to explore the Miami scene. From all restaurants, Pastor at Pascal appealed to us. Even thought the kitchen was closed, Chef Alberto Pastor allowed us in and served us 100% Iberian acorn-fed ham (hand cut by himself) with a cheese board and wine pairings. As a bonus they had live music and they even let my daughter sing along with them. Thanks Anabel, you are simply the best! Overall, we had a surreal experience and felt so welcome (like family). Menu is diverse in Spanish and French cuisine with a selective wine list. Cannot wait to come back and this time have the complete dining experience. Pretty sure I'll try the "Bacalao Pil-Pil (Cod fish) and next the Oxtail. This place is a must stop in Miami. read more

Food was just ok in terms of ingredients, not many, flavors were as expected for a salad or chicken or lentil soup but nothing in particular special to pay up. We got the lunch special. Service staff were nice and attentive but we were also the only table in the place Ambient and decoration is nice and quiet, at least not loud so a conversation can be had. read more

What an awful experience. We came here for Valentine's Day expecting a special evening, but it was incredibly disappointing from start to finish. They offered a prix fixe menu advertised as a five-course meal, when in reality it was only three courses, with the appetizer and main dish differing between men and women at the table -- which felt very odd and unnecessary. The fish was terrible -- rubbery and completely lacking in flavor. It genuinely felt like I was chewing on rubber. The couple seated next to us complained extensively because they felt they were overcharged for the quality and quantity of food they received. The manager even brought them a soufflé in an attempt to make up for it. We came based on a friend's recommendation, but whether it was due to the Valentine's Day rush or not, this was not the experience we expected. Unfortunately, we will not be returning. read more

This is a place I was really looking forward to try, a high end Basque restaurant in Coral Gables. But like most things with high expectations, it disappointed. Some restaurants seem to just take you and your hard earned money for granted and this is how I felt when I left Pastor at Pascal. The combination of the service and the food was very underwhelming. Pastor at pascal was a potential place that i really wanted to make a staple of our date nights. Unfortunately that cannot be the case. Even with its small cozy ambience, the service was really bad. The hostess sat us and we stayed waiting and waiting for even menus. This is with waiters walking around or just standing around not doing anything. The food was underwhelming and overly ambitious without living up to its description. It was flat and many dishes were flavorless. One plate, had a nearly black, gravy type sauce that was not very good and fully drowned out the potential flavor of the protein on the plate. Ironically it may have been the same osso buco which did not taste like the type of sauce you normally get at all. All in all we received a negative review from family and I like to give a restaurant a chance. Suffice to say, at least in this instant, Pastor at Pascal, did not live up to its potential. read more

Don't go! Don't! (1) The menu you'd see on line if you ran a search is not the menu in the "restaurant" (hardly qualifies as a "restaurant"). What you see, once you get there, is not what you saw (and thought you wanted) when you decided to go. (2) The selection (such as it was) was unappetizing, curious (as in, "what the hell is/was that?"), pretty limited, and off-putting. (3) The menu itself? It's a two-sided, vertically-oriented flip-open tablet affair, with the same classifications or "categories" of servings on each side - - but totally different selections. (4) The food turns out to be unappetizing, not well-cooked, bland, and verging on being tasteless. Portions are small, and you turn out to be better off because they are. (5) The prices are just obscene. So: you can't get what you thought you'd get and what you wanted; what's there to be gotten is essentially board-game fare; the quality is abysmal; and as you leave, you feel you've been scammed and cheated. You'd be better off at a McDonalds or Burger King. read more

Our visit to Pastor At Pascal was 100% mixed. The ambiance was nice. The establishment itself was warm and inviting. Dinner consisted of tasty and well presented dishes despite portions being on the small side. However, service left so much to be desired! Waiters seemed confused and not sure of how to serve basics such as water and rolls. Waits were long. Then, one waiter asked us what our opinion on Maduro was. Completely inappropriate! Then another server commented on my hair and wanted to know how I made it so shiny. What should have been a 2 hours dinner stretched into 4 hours. The management needs to do a better job training its employees and teaching them that their interaction with customers should be limited to their dining experience and not politics. Walking into an empty restaurant can sometimes be a hit or miss and unfortunately, it was a miss. It was highly rated and personally recommended, but fell short. The morale of the staff that was serving two tables was off putting, but I made conversation (as if I was working for a tip) and things got better with the service. Next, we ordered the appetizers that were the special; one grilled octopus (this was great, fresh and flavorful) and the lobster risotto with scallops. Well, we got a risotto filled with grated broccoli and no hint of lobster, scallops or even the taste of anything seafood. I brought it to the servers attention and his exact words were: "we don't even have broccoli in the restaurant". The photo says it all. Main course was the lamb chops (second best dish) and the duck. The duck cut like a steak and had freezer burn. The server insisted on asking the chef and then brought the dish back stating the chef said it was perfect. Welp, I just returned from France and it wasn't perfect nor fresh. My friend and I gave the experience a 3.5 rating but my fingers wouldn't allow me to rate it at a 4. Nice staff, cute place but definitely not worth the hype or the funds. Oh, the plastic 20 oz bottle of Evian water is $10. I have no problem paying that much for bottled water, but please make it glass. We wouldn't go back here but we're happy we experienced it. I hope whoever's reading this has a better experience. The food the food, it was the food. It was uneatable. At every step with every course we shared our concern or what was wrong with the waiter. French onion soup was like vinegar soup, lentil soup was not cooked enough. The meat balls was the worse. The soufflé was not soufflé !!! I am grateful we did not get sick. The evening began well. Our initial waiter was very friendly and offered great recommendations. We promptly got a bottle of wine and placed our entire order (appetizers and entrees) before 7:00pm. This is important to note because we had plans to attend a show nearby at 9pm. Our appetizers arrived 7:15-7:20pm which was the cheese soufflé and warm octopus. Everything was proceeding well until we finished the appetizers and the table was never cleared. We were patient as we felt we were good on time and this is supposed to be a fine dining experience. However we soon realized that we hadn't seen our waiter in quite some time and it was now 8pm and our entrees had not arrived. When I started to inquire, I was told that our waiter fell suddenly ill and had to leave. No one had taken the courtesy to tell us and check on our table at all or even ensure that our order had been properly entered and on its way. Trying to ask for a manager was Mission Impossible as the hostess and the waiter who now told us he had taken over our table barely spoke any English. I insisted on the bill (I should have refused to pay and left) and they somehow scrambled to bring out entrees a few minutes later after stalling on giving me the bill. At this point it was 8:40pm and our show was at 9pm. We ate as quickly as we could and paid the bill (the waiter brought the bill at the same time as the food). What a complete waste of an evening. The food was actually good but we couldn't enjoy it in peace due to the gross mismanagement of the restaurant. A rare evening out for my wife and I turned into a stress filled night of aggravation. The old Pacal's is under new ownership and the ambience has been greatly improved by redecorating. The Basque and French cuisine at Pastor st Pascal's is delicious and the service is good, but be prepared to pay through the nose. Appetizers are on the average $25 each. Entrees are $42 or much more each, and more than $50 for beef. Sparkling water is served constantly unless you order regular water and each bottle is $8. Wine bottles start at $120 or much more. And so on. Two people will pay around $300 to $350 or more depending on the cost of the wine. Yet the restaurant was full. Will customers come back after paying these prices? We will not. That is why so many restaurants are being closed in Mismi. What is happening in Miami with the prices of quality restaurants is simply outrageous. This is about avarice. read more

We ate here recently with my in-laws and the food was excellent. I started with the beet salad, which had a small wedge of aged goat cheese in a walnut crust. For my main, I had the sea scallops which were fantastic. We shared a few desserts. The grand marnier souffle and chocolate souffle were yummy, but I liked the apple tart "tatin" best. Just don't want anyone else spending big bucks for a miserable evening. After we were seated, it took another 10 minutes to get a food menu. Our first waiter then said he was leaving and introduced us to the second waiter who finally took our order but then came back to say the 3rd waiter would be taking care of us. I noticed he moved to a table in the corner where the owner was sitting. Before our meal was served, we were shuttled to the 4th waiter. In the meantime we were talked into a more expensive bottle of wine and a special (and costly) "baby pig" which was just ok. The entrees were not even served at the same time. The "Grand Marnier" soufflé for dessert was totally tasteless. I went over to the owner's table to explain our displeasure but he really just didn't care. Even the musician came over to our table to apologize. There were just 2 other occupied tables besides the owners pals and this was on a Friday evening at 7:30pm. Obviously others have experienced a similar scenario. Porto Sol across the street was packed. This is nowhere near the classy restaurant it used to be. We definitely do not recommend dining at Pastor At Pascal. There are way too many better restaurants in Coral Gables. read more

Went to Pascals for the first time. I been there for business but as a dinner this was my first time . Our server was great he was older nice gent very calm and attentive. So our appetizers and initial amuse bush w champagne went great. The food was amazing. The four course meal didn't disappoint. Every dish is perfectly prepared. So delicious perfect cuisine w great flavor like our first fish dish was so good wow wrapped and w broth yummm. Look at the pic! The lamb crusted veal chop was huge and delicious with a sauce my goodness and perfection cooked to our order ! Our desserts were both chocolate and original Suffle wow again amazing hot and so good more chocolates and more food came . Drinks after dinner and the restaurant's conversation was so good . It was my wife's birthday so they wrote it on her dessert dish! Nice decor in the restaurant and of course a Gables stable. Thank you for the whole staff for making it a special birthday. PASCAL'S opened up for lunch again. Finally, decent French food for lunch. Knowing the menu well at dinner, I tried their burger on a brioche bun. The quality of the meat was amazing, and the Short Rib is roasted, and then Burger is stuffed with the Short Rib! Also, there's a pile of fries, too. Joseph did a good job as a server and has great wine knowledge. That's more for my dinner appetite. The ambiance is nice and calm, a great break from the office. First, server was clueless as to the menu. She said specials were "wonderful " but didn't know a single detail as to the preparation. Then, it turned out that the 2 fish dishes on the menu were not even available! I ordered a cheese course. You could not create a more boring lackluster presentation...plate was half empty; no garnish. No fruit, no honey, 2 nuts!...no olives, no herbs...- can i please teach you how to make a beautiful cheese course?? For pennies you can add the above ingredients to create a beautiful presentation. Fast forward to the check; it was presented and my husband gave a card. The check came back and guess what? NO credit card! He had to go to the hostess to ask for the card back. In summary, this used to be a special restaurant for us to visit. Now, i would not return unless serious improvements are made. Bummer. read more

Had lunch with a friend yesterday at Pascale's. We asked for the Miami Spice menu but decided to order from the main menu. This was my fourth time there but my friend's first time. We both had the ordered the Wild Salmon Slowly Poached In Olive Oil, Pappardelle, Caramelized Cauliflower, and Truffle Vinaigrette. For dessert we shared the Frozen Orange Givree, Crisp Tuille - Meringue Brulee Everything was absolutely delicious and our server, Ronnie, was attentive, friendly and made us feel like we were the only ones dining. Good lunch in quiet French restaurant on the main strip in CG. I came specifically for a Miami Spice (summer deal) lunch, but the worn "Bistro Menu" I was handed makes me wonder if this is an all-year deal and not worth a major detour to save $4 (this menu had a price of $26.95, vs the Spice price of $23). The soup (cream of cauliflower) was served in a plain bowl with no embellishments, garnish or fanfare, but was tasty. My companion had a spinach and romaine salad that was equally staid in appearance - the bowl was even a little "beat up". For mains, my risotto won out over his bouliabaise - perfectly cooked and with lots of vegetables. We both finished with the (no choice) profiterole. The room was about 40% full and the average age was the mid-70s. If not for the reputation and high score on Yelp, I'd mistake the place for a nice little neighborhood trattoria, but not destination-worthy. read more

We have been coming to this very upscale French restaurant for years; it is very traditional, old school and elegant. I may mention that it is expensive but worth it for the quality and service. The evening started with an amuse bouche of vichyssoise followed by asparagus for my appetizer served cold with a poached egg, snapper stuffed in a crispy pastry crust for my main which was delicious and a dark chocolate tart for dessert. From the moment we walked into this small, quaint and nicely proportioned boutique cafe, we felt a sense of calm comfort. We were immediately seated at a table near the front window, which we all felt was the best table in the house. We were a party of four (two couples), all with varying degrees of culinary aptitude and expectations. It was our first time, while the couple we were with had been here a few times in the last year and seemed to know their way around the menu. Fresh bread was served for all with an ample portion of butter. Although I usually say that the meal starts with the bread, which is the barometer of the meal to come. Thankfully that wasn't the case here, as the bread was a bit dry and might I say, stale. Over the years, my many trips to France have spoiled me in terms of what I expect bread to taste and feel like. Crisp chewy crust, light moist center and a heavenly taste, with or without butter (though with butter, freshly churned French butter is always a plus). This bread wasn't even close. However, the meal itself was made amends for any of the breads shortcomings. Our spouses decided to start with champagne, while I started things off with a tasty and robust Malbec from Argentina. All excellent choices and a nice start to our meal. To go over each and every dish would take me another five or six paragraphs. Let's just say that the meal from start to finish was top notch, delicious, authentically French and beautifully presented. (Please review my photos for, 'a picture is worth a thousand words' explanation!). Service was polite, caring, professional and attentive. The evening went smoothly and the timing of the dishes being served, was both nicely spaced and quietly served. The servers never interrupted the conversations of the moment, which was especially nice. We all thoroughly enjoyed our time, meal and the atmosphere of this fine French culinary restaurant experience. It was almost as though were gliding through time, without a care in the world. The evening came to a end all too quickly (about 3 hours). Until our next visit, Pascal's will be a treat in waiting! Magnifique.....superb! read more

I recently went to Pascal's for Miami Spice dinner with my husband. French food isn't something we go out for regularly, but it always hits the spot. Open since 2000, it's a Coral Gables institution and I was so excited for a classy date night! I made a reservation online and the host offered us our pick of two tops when we arrived. Overall, the service really exceeded my expectations. I mean, they offered me as many warm mini baguettes as I could get my hands on and for that, I'm eternally grateful. We started with the country terrine and mussels. Of course, the best part of any mussels dish is the broth, and this was among the best I've ever had. Paired with the aforementioned bread, I couldn't have been happier. My French husband was also over the moon with the terrine. From there, he got the duck and I opted for the salmon. Both were cooked perfectly. Smaller portions but I definitely left full at the end. For dessert, we splurged for the truffle brie, in true French fashion. It was really good, especially paired with the napoleon mousse that we got from the Spice menu. To sip, we enjoyed some wine by the glass, including a Sauternes at the end, which is among my favorite! Wine bottles don't come cheap, but I did see some folks walk in with their own bottles, so I'd love to ask about a corkage fee next time. I would definitely come back outside of Spice but will need to be prepared to spend a pretty penny. If you're looking for an understated restaurant that has outstanding French cuisine, Pascal's is a surefire bet. read more

It was a surprise for me because I usually don't like seafood. This restaurant is authentic. The food reminds me of when I was a student in France. The wine list is also equally excellent and we enjoyed a Pinot Gris. My only regret is that I did not order the chocolate soufflé, but that's life. It's necessary to make mistakes in order to learn. Now I know that the chocolate soufflé gives me a reason to return. Or better said another reason. Omg .,. Our server was like old school marm, from Little House on the Prairie. We placed our order from the Spice Menu, an hour latter, they served our appetizer. We ordered oysters, but got salmon in oyster shells because they ran out of real oysters, For the main course we ordered short ribs, only to find out an hour latter that they ran out of short ribs and served us fish. All night long we asked for water refills which came sporadically. I wished I could say we had fun with our friends, (a table of 8), but it was so noisy, you could not talk. P.S. Pascals is a great Restaurant... we have come here for years and quality is always on point. This time we took advantage of the Miami Spice menu which was super good. They have the Miami Spice menu and some add-ons that you can select from... that was great. Lobster bisque is not to be missed. Great starter as is also the haricot vert salad... super good and fresh.... but if you are feeling like your French is on.... escargot is the way to go. The wine list is not big but it has lots of good wines and some of your more affordable selections... oh and a full bar for those who want a cocktail or maybe a single malt. Service is great and professional always attentive to your needs. Although is not a restaurant where you see a lot of kids... they are very welcome and the restaurant will offer a few selections just for them. If you haven't been here give it a try...
