The service was efficient and cheerful, but best of all the food was delicious and I think at inappropriate price. I had the Coq au Vin; my friend had the Confit de Canard. We were very happy with our choices. Best of all and a welcome surprise was a dessert. I had the warm bread pudding, which was absolutely delicious but the crème brûlée was a complete surprise. It's a dessert I seldom order because it is rarely well prepared. This was perfection. A hint of a fruit flavor in the background the texture was light and fluffy, and the caramel glaze was not heavy, but perfect. Tisk Tisk Tisk!! I expected way more from Frenchies. With all the great reviews, this Coral Gables staple turned out to be purely disappointing. We started with the mussels, and the broth was utterly FLAVORLESS. I had to resort to using the butter provided on the table, melting it with the mussel broth just to elevate the taste a tad--it was horrible. For the entrees, we ordered the steak and the roasted chicken. Both meals were incredibly bland--I could not believe they were trying to serve French food. The steak lacked any distinctive seasoning or marinade, and the roasted chicken was equally uninspired, missing the rich flavors one would expect from French cuisine. It was a complete waste of money and time! Given the hype and the high expectations set by the glowing reviews, the experience at Frenchies was a major letdown. This place clearly does not live up to its reputation, and I won't be returning. read more

I just have to say this place is one of coral gables's best gems. It's a small restaurant quite often full with locals. It's privately owned by a French man a who's just awesome, he makes you feel at home. The food is always great, it's a not your usual French restaurant menu it's an authentic menu that you would see in a restaurant a France, and always fresh. They have a good wine list as well for wine lovers. We enjoyed a tasty dinner here on a Saturday night in January. The food was sublime. My husband and I started with the excellent French onion soup, which had a savory broth topped by a delicate, nutty Gruyère. Our daughter tried the soup du jour, a light and creamy celery root purée. We also had the pâté with fig jam, a delightful combination. For the entrees, we ordered the coq-au-vin, duck confit, and filet mignon au poivre. The chicken was as moist and creamy as butter with just a light taste of wine. The duck confit was also moist and tender. But I think my filet mignon was the best dish of the evening. The meat was perfectly cooked and accompanied by a luscious cream sauce with just enough pepper to add a subtle kick. "Subtle" is the word here; French food is not supposed to be spicy, salty, or drowning in booze. Prices were not cheap, but I thought the entrees were a good value. The steak was served with fries, sautéed carrots, and a light, tangy salad of mixed greens and green beans. The duck also came with a salad, and the chicken was served with mashed potatoes and carrots. We took home boxes of leftovers and some chocolate mousse for dessert. The restaurant is small with a cozy bistro vibe. Our waiter was friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, the place was so noisy I could only hear half of what he said. I hate writing a bad review of a place I expected to absolutely love, but this is a place you should absolutely skip. First, I LOVE French food and was excited there was one in the Gables that I had not tried yet. No surprise, when I arrive (along with two friends) we knew someone at nearly every table. As locals, I love when locals support. Although it was early in the night and less than 1/2 the tables seated, they insisted that our reservation for 3 ppl was to be sat at a tiny two-person table, with a third chair stuck in the very narrow aisle of where the waitstaff must pass as they run from kitchen to the dining room. Although we asked to be seated at a table for 3, they refused despite that our reservation was made over a week ago. As one might expect, the person who sat in the "extra" chair, was hit each and every time by waitstaff as they passed. Then the food. I was so excited, as I love everything listed on the menu. I ordered escargot and steak frites. Escargot was plain awful. Some of the worst I've every had. Steak frites was edible but overcooked for medium rare (which is how i asked it be cooked) but at $42/plate, should have been near perfection. My friend had French onion soup (without the bread) and the fish special. She ate it because she was starving but the entire time said it was underwhelming. The waitress asked her how her soup was, and when my friend said "just ok" the waitress blamed the taste on her choice to have her soup bread free. Wrong way to handle. Don't blame the guest for their food preferences. Our third friend enjoyed her filet but also hated dinner since she was the one who got banged in the back every time someone walked by. Skip this place, awful service and mediocre, overpriced food. read more

This place is a hidden Gem! I had dinner here tonight with some friends who took me here, I'm from out of town. We started with the cheese and meat platter and fragua, followed by the lamb, steak frites and salmon with goncchi. The food was fantastic and very fresh. I haven't left a review in a long time but I had too after leaving this restaurant. The place is not as big and there were some empty tables so it wasn't at full capacity. We order the onion soup and bone marrow to start. It took 15 minutes to bring bread (which was cold and tasteless) then we waiting 50 minutes to get the appetizers. We noticed how the tables around us got appetizers, entree and dessert and we were still waiting for just soups. The waiters keep telling us 2 minutes every 15 minutes until 50 minutes passed and finally got the soups. The cheese was horrible, the broth tastes it like pure melted butter and to top it off wasn't even hot. Then the bone marrow was cut in 4 little pieces instead of just two long pieces. Never had seen bone marrow presented this way which was extremely hard to take out to eat. We took not even half of a teaspoon all together from the 4 pieces and half was just pure sea salt. Too expensive and not worth the $24. Then we finally got our entree the filet and the steak fritters. The filet was okay. The potatoes tasteless and the salad had a little dressing that was tasteless too. The steak was just as hard as a rock and it was medium. I could barely cut it with the steak knife. I ate two pieces and the taste was horrible like low grade meat - the most hard medium steak I have ever had. The salad had no dressing at all zero. I waited for any of the waiters to come and ask us how was everything but none never came so I couldn't even ask for dressing to at least eat the salad. I wanted to let him know I couldn't eat the steak but he never came. When he finally came to take the plates he saw I didn't ate anything ( same as the soup) but never even once asked us how was the food or everything he just proceeded to bring us the check. $220 for the worst food I have had in Miami in 20 years. We felt completely stolen with this type of service and food. We eat out every Friday, Saturday and Sunday and we try our best to try new restaurants every time but this was NOT worth it. read more

Few weeks ago, my friend and I came to this restaurant for lunch. When we entered, we were greeted right away. The waiter was really kind and explained the menu and told us about the Specials. He brought waters and little bread pieces with butter, which were delicious. We ended up ordering 2 French Onion Soups and a sandwich. I don't remember the name of the sandwich but when it came, it was HUGE. The soups came first though. I was starving so I began tearing up the soup right away. The melted cheese were amazing and I loved the little bread pieces inside the soup. After a while, I had to stop because I was really thirsty. I think the soup made me even thirstier because of the saltiness from cheese and broths. When the sandwich came, I only had a bite because I was already full. Not much to look at from the outside but it's been around forever and there's a reason for that. Come early as it tends to get full quickly especially during lunch hour in the Gables. The menu is short, sweet and bursting with flavor. There are always incredible daily lunch specials to choose from as well. A bit on the expensive side, $29 for a tuna Niçoise salad but it is absolutely full of flavor and done with sushi grade seared tuna. Flavor is on point. I think the phrase "I can't believe we've never been here before!" came out my mouth at least three times while dining at Frenchie's. It's been on my radar for YEARS and I recently conned my fiancee into choosing it for his birthday dinner last week. The selling point? The foie gras on the appetizer menu since he's obsessed with the duck delicacy. The whole restaurant transports you out of Coral Gables and straight into a French bistro. The menu was hand written on a chalk board and delivered to our table. To eat, I went for the French onion soup to start. I could have ate this entire soup and left a happy camper. There was AMPLE cheese, and it was also stuffed with onions. I just can't really describe it. You must try! From there, I went for mussels and fries. On this particular day, they were curry mussels. They were some of the biggest mussels I've ever ate and a hefty portion to boot. I could have easily shared these with someone else at the table. Of course, the best part was the sauce which I liberally dipped my bread into. We ended on a sweet note of chocolate mousse and vanilla pot du creme. They happily put a candle on the mousse for my fiancee and sang happy birthday in French! To sip, we opted for some French red wine throughout which was divine. I think it was a great choice for a celebratory dinner and would definitely come back for a romantic evening out.
