My review is based on our experience as we ordered a cake from here for my engagement some time back and enjoyed the cake thoroughly. We went in as a family for weekend bakery buffet. It has been several years since we have been here. You need to prepay for buffet and early birds also gets some discount. It starts with chat cart where you can make yourself pani puri, bhel, etc. Decent. Each month they change the buffet menu little different we went in May. Next they had fried beetroot lollipops, tasty but very oily. All the curries were ok. They serve poori, burger, veg pizza, poori were made to order iut of which poori was the only decent one but the oil they are using for all these was not good and had stomach upset after math. Biggest letdown was all the bakery items were awful. Tasted stale and old. Not going again. Service was not ordered and space was very constrained to move around, which is important for buffet. read more

This place is really a good steal. We went here for dinner, and the owner, I believe an elderly lady, was extremely kind to us. They were running some specials for Holi with an additional menu, and even though it was a few days past Holi, she let us choose from that. The food took some time, but it was all served piping hot, and the taste was excellent. They also have a bakery attached to it, and the pastries were also good, and we did have some takeout. Visited for a lunch event. Very delicious and lovely selection of appetizer and lunch food for buffet. Papri chaat and samosa was very tasty. For lunch, I loved the tandoori chicken and fresh garlic naan. The saag paneer was too 'baby food' texture in my opinion but nonetheless still tasty. Mango laasi was also scrumptious and not too thick. The manager of the restaurant was very friendly and walked around to greet customers. Environment was very clean and inviting. After eating at one of the cheapest Indian restaurants, Desi Tadka, we ate at one of the most expensive Indian restaurants, Passage to India. This place was famous for their weekday lunch buffets, and Thursday-Sunday dinner buffets. Lately lunch buffets have been limited to weekends, due to lack of customers, as Indian engineers working from home. I've come here once in 2018, 2019, and now 2021, aways in December before the $11 Entertainment Coupon expired. Came here Tuesday at 530pm. Exceptional ambiance, with huge expansive restaurant, tablecloths, cloth napkins, metal utensils, glasses.   Place was covid safe, as we were the only customers here during our entire stay. Ordered the $17 chicken vindaloo, the $21 chicken tikka masala, and the $3.50 naan.  Dishes come with basmati rice, so you don't have to pay extra for that. The naan was fresh out of the oven, with a layer of butter.  Delicious while it was hot.  Four very large pieces of bread, the size of a large pizza. The chicken vindaloo was as hot as the tropical sun in Hawaii 2 weeks ago.  Drank my glass of water right away.  Slices of boneless chicken breast in a very spicy hot, tangy red colored sauce, mixed in with potatoes.  Serving size was about 16 ounces. The boneless chicken tikka marsala was exceptional, with a brown ish orange tomato-based curry sauce with onion flavoring, medium spicy. Very expensive for 16 ounces at $21, up from $18 exactly two years ago. Wasn't about to pay for $19 for Bengan Bertha, or mashed eggplant, even if it was my wife's favorite. Finished the chunks of chicken in both dishes, and took the sauce home, to mix with cooked eggplant and cauliflower in the following days.  Indian restaurants expensive due to labor intensive making dishes, and the expensive spices that go into it.   I'm one of the last diners at this location, as it will close December 31, 2021. Passage to India will move to the currently closed bakery location a mile away on El Camino Real next to Shoreline and will be take out only. The waitress taking our order was of Indian descent, as was the Maitre De at the entrance. The uniformed waiter checking on our table had dark skin, and could pass as an Indian, until he directed the cook to serve up a refill of basmati rice for me, in Spanish! Today I stepped into something different for my palette and the amount of spice is quite spicy but I love it. As I'm writing I'm devouring and biting into the corn kofta is soft, I can taste the bits and pieces of the ingredients of corn and they give you huge pieces. I like that they don't skimp. Pretty decent buffet spread that's available only on the weekends and for lunch. Food was plentiful and varied which is the main reasons I like the buffet. The food was fresh and constantly being replenish despite a couple of parties going on in the other rooms. Honestly I could only do one full plate and then I'm pretty stuffed. Kinda whimpy I know but I'm there for the variety which can't be offered if dining with a person or two. The naan bread was delivered a bit hard and dry, but I did see some fresh ones being brought out periodically. I guess it's a roll of the dice. Had dinner tonight at Passage To India! I missed this place so much. I used to go here a few times a year pre-Covid. The buffet is closed but they offer all their dishes with huge portions. Very shareable. I went with my family group of 6. We got 5 items and got to take leftovers home. So glad this place is still open. We will be back soon! Beware, they put nuts in their Chicken Tikka Masala! If you have food allergies, ask about every single thing you get here, or just opt out of eating here. Unfortunately, typically "safe" dishes like Chicken Tikka Masala are not safe for folks with nut allergies at this restaurant. As someone with a nut allergy who has never had an issue with this dish at any restaurant until now, I learned the hard way that this place decided to go against convention and put nuts in it. Abusive staff | Pathetic Service | Indifferent Owner. Really horrible experience. I ordered a cake via doordash for pickup. Well in advance 2 days. First of all their place was picked only coz they seemed to be the only option which does eggless cakes. For whatever reason, doordash was showing that their place is closed and I had to call the owner and ask them if it is open. She spoke to doordash and got it opened. I placed the order. Just to confirm, I called the lady owner again. This is around 1pm for a cale to be picked up around 5pm. She mentioned that doordash doesn't notify her until 20mins from pickup, which was weird. How/why should the service not inform the owner in advance especially for an item like a cake. Anyway, she asked to call at around 4pm. I then called her and said that she had told her staff to keep a ready. I then left to reach the place at around 5:20pm and when asked for the cake, the receptionist said it is not even ready. And I need to wait for 20mins. I had to finish so many other things and time was a crunch. What's the point of pre order? I asked him to please hurry it up. I told him that I have been on constant call with the owner so this is least expected. To which he said you never called me. How is one person expected to know his number. Ordering on doordash should be sufficient. When I told him this and asked him to hurry it up, he started abusing me. That was the tipping point. I called the owner lady and doordash customer service to cancel my order and refund the money. I have also raised a complain with doordash again this restaurant and how they treat customers. Ever since the buffet went away this place has been very disappointing. They regularly screw up on orders and often forget to make phone orders or mix up your food with someone else's. The old location with the extravagant and reasonably priced buffet was a hundred times better. Had been going there over 10 years. Not sure why someone would name the menu items based on pandemic terminologies like Social distancing platter, Pandemic Chinese platter and Lockdown Chinese Platter. But, I don't like those names especially when it comes to food and people are getting out of lockdown and pandemic period. Restaurant should consider renaming these items. Coming to the food, it tasted awesome. The platter meal is very sufficient as an office lunch or a lunch for single person. It came in a well packed and sealed box which had pockets for each item in the platter. The box is made of 2 curries, a sweet, rice, one full naan bread, raita yogurt mix and a fried snack. We ordered Veggie Pakora, Chicken Vindaloo, Rogan Josh and Pasanda Chicken. The Pakora consisted of an extreme amount of thick, tasteless batter surrounding a mere hint of vegetable which could not even be tasted due to the disproportion of batter to vegetables. The Chicken Vindaloo was in a strange, red fluorescent looking sauce of the type I have never seen before during 50+ years of frequently eating Indian food! Very salty and otherwise, flavorless. The Rogan Josh was UNBELIEVABLY salty  (I have a high tolerance for salt) to the point of being inedible! We sent it back and they "remade" it. The results were the replacement appeared to be the same lamb (now overcooked) in a diluted sauce and tasted about half as salty but still remained inedible. The Pasanda can only be described as bland, dull and boring, totally lacking any of the delightful tastes usually associated with Indian food either mild or spicy. We are frequent customers of many Bay Area Indian restaurants and have NEVER experienced such a disappointing meal. read more

Tried the Passage to India buffet over the weekend. The first thing that you notice is the spread -- lots of food options. Right opposite the entrance is the pav bhaaji, chole bhature, and the cucumber salad, etc. The chole bhature was decent if you re expecting the giant bhature from Delhi you might be in for a bit of surprise. The bhaturas are not big but they are flavorful. The pav bhaajiis okay, nothing special or bad -- just average tasting. There are golgappas with almost all the assortments like yellow peas, mashed potatoes, etc that one expects in India. I wasn't expecting the golgappa paani to be good, but it was flavorful and packed a healthy punch of heat. The main course is in the center of the room and has a lot of options, far too many to try or list here. I tried the paneer which was soft. The texture and the taste reflected that it was fresh. The mutton gravy was okay -- spicy for my taste but my friend liked it. The noodles were quite disappointing as they were dry and bland. The chicken tikka gravy was flavorful, but the chicken was tough. The chicken biryani was flavorful, might have been the thing I liked the most. I finished my lunch with a few gulab jamuns and rasmali. The gulab jamun was what you would expect at any Indian buffet both in shape, size, texture, and flavor. Nothing special. Rasmalai was a pleasant surprise, and it was good for a buffet. I tried the bite-size pastries, and they were quite disappointing. In summary -- There are a lot of food options to try from. I think that is this restaurant's USP. I would rate it about 9/10 in the spread. About 7/10 in food flavor. If you are looking to try out different Indian dishes in one meal, then PTI is worth a try. read more

Really nice Indian restaurant with extensive selection of dishes! I highly recommend the dinner buffet, which is less than $20 per person. The buffet has a lot of various vegetarian and meat options including chicken tandoori, paneer dish, chowmein, tikka masala, lamb masala, etc. There were a lot of other dishes that I tried for the first time and were delicious. The buffet also comes with a basket of garlic naan. Lastly, you could finish off the your dinner with tasty dessert-- rice pudding and mango flavored ice cream. Team ordered lots of vegetarian and chicken biryani along with raita (spiced yogurt) and moong daal Halwa to go. Biryani was okayish. Apart from the chicken drumsticks, the rest of the chicken pieces in the biryani were small and had bones. I had a hard time having those. But overall, the flavour was good. Moong daal Halwa on the other had was made in ghee, had some dry fruits and was not very sweet and so I really liked it. Wow... Finally found an Indian restaurant that my husband didn't have any negative comments about! Passage to India bills itself as fine Indian cuisine and buffet place. Their venue is prepared for the masses, with a parking lot, and a well-decorated, clean, and spacious interior. It's popular with locals, even late - we ate there at the tail end of the night which was unfortunate since it looks like they don't try as hard to keep entrees warm and stocked (minus one star). Went to Passage to India with 2 friends the other day.. It is very average - nothing too special but also not bad.. I had the chicken Tikka masala (my favorite) and my friends had lamb tikka masala and chicken kebab.. The food came pretty fast and the taste was alright.. Very average tasting indian buffet place, or at least on a Monday for lunch, especially for vegetarians. They definitely had a huge variety of options, which was what I came for and brought my colleagues for. The pakora and papad were pretty good with the variety of chutneys. The dosa was decent while the potato filling with it was really good, but the sambar was below par, and trust me I love my sambar. The chana bhatura was good. The chilli potatoes was interesting paired with the fairly white veg. chow mein, but both had a good taste to it. The dhal makhani was good, as well as the fluffy plain and garlic naan. The aloo gobi was alright, but the aloo chana and malai kofta wasn't that appetizing. But in the end the mango ice cream was really nice. Overall, my feelings were all over the place in terms of the food. I appreciated the fact that there was so much variety and everyone got to try whatever they wanted, but I was just not satisfied enough with the overall taste to want to come back here again, especially for a $15 lunch buffet on a weekday.
