This is a very cute and quick brunch spot tucked in sunset park. A lot of my friends have paid this spot a visit but until recently have I finally gave this little gem a try. Their food options are very cheap, delicious, and simple. If this is what you're looking for, give this place a try. I had the curry chicken which was so so delicious and packed with heat. Cozy little cafe in the quieter part of sunset park. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich and the sweet potato fries. The pulled pork had an interesting flavor and it didn't have much sauce as i would normally think a pulled pork would have. It was not terrible but not the best i have had. I cant put my finger on what the flavor was but it didnt go well. The sweet potato fries were pretty good and the side of flavored mayo was a nice touch. They tasted fresh and delicious. You can see they are trying in there and i applaud that. I will be back to try other dishes but based on what I had i give it 3 stars. read more

I haven't had lunch here but I did drop in for coffee one morning on the weekend. It was hot out and my husband had iced coffee (it was pretty good -- flavorful and fresh, not at all bitter) and I had a hibiscus juice drink. Oh my god -- it was so sweet. I couldn't drink it. I asked the wait staff to pour some out and add some water. Even after she did that I had to ask for another cup and dilute it by 50% with water again before being sure it wasn't going to give me type II diabetes. This spot is something new to try. Not your typical burgers and sandwiches. They've got some pretty cool things in the menu, from a deep fried chicken sandwich to shredded brisket sandwich. I've tried three different things from the menu, including the burger. They have a distinct taste to them but man are they delicious! There was luckily a few seats open and we quickly grabbed one in between the bar and front window. Love love love Parlay. It's my favorite go to for a good meal. I'm in love with their fried chicken sandwich. So juicy and crispy. I've been here so many times and love to recommend it to friends. Even came here for my birthday. We always joke about how one of the servers looks just like our friend. The service here is amazing!! The prices are low and portions are large. The fried chicken sandwich comes with fries on the side. I'm almost never able to finish my meal because of the portion but I love it. With the exception of the lack of staff, everything else was great! The place is in a somewhat bizarre location; 8th avenue and 40th street in Brooklyn - sort of an in between Brooklyn Chinatown and Sunset Park. The place is quite big, with seating for approximately 20 or so people. People who order to go, walk right up to the register - and for whatever reason, when I went, there was only one worker? And I sat down with two friends and we had to wait until the line cleared before being approached/spoken to by the staff. Which I understand of course... however more people kept coming in and lining up to go, so we sat there for 20 minutes with no menu, nothing. Just waiting. I walked up to grab some menus. I'm okay with waiting for the line to clear but not waiting aimlessly. Perhaps they should leave a handful of menus on the table or something... to prevent this from happening or at least staff two people- one for the takeout line and one for the people sitting? Hence, loss of one star. Otherwise, prices are great. Food is delicious. Limited brunch options but great food and presentation! One thing: the eggs in the Egg Royale dish we ordered was overly cooked/hard. But other than that, the fries were amazing, chocolate chip pancakes and fruit hit the spot, the grilled cheese with bacon and tomato was soooo spot on. Surprising for the neighborhood. Came here on a early Saturday morning and surprisingly it was packed. We waited about 5 minutes before we got a table so that gave us some time to think about what we would like to order. The food and service is great here. The food is delicious, favorable and everything tasted fresh and clean. I didn't feel disgusted and extremely bloated after the meal. The price is also amazing for the size and portion. The portion of the drinks are huge. I had a iced chai latte with soy milk and it was huge so I had to take it to go to finish. The chia was missing some spice for my flavor and a little watered down but it's okay. I don't go to Brooklyn often to eat, but I might just make the trip here. I've been here several times for their coffee which did not disappoint and one time for their brunch. Off the bat this place is definitely very cozy and ideal for studying if you come at the right hours. It can get quite busy sometimes since a lot of people come here for brunch and for good reason too. Their brunch menu is quite affordable considering the other price point of other brunch options in the city. I ordered an eggs benedict with bacon that came with a hash, and also a grilled cheese. For drinks I got their latte which is always good, and also a hibiscus lemonade from their seasonal beverages. The eggs benedict was decent. I felt that the hollandaise sauce could have used more seasoning but the eggs were cooked perfectly runny and went well with the bacon and English muffin. The grilled cheese was great especially with the quality of bread and cheese. The bread was nicely buttered and toasty and the cheese was gooey. However it could have been slightly less salty. For the price that they offer brunch at, this was a great value. The quality of food was good and the service was prompt. I would definitely return to have brunch again. read more

In love!! Besides the lack of service (there is one server per shift), everything was great! A small cafe where you can grab a quick bite with friends or you can even study there. Plenty of brunch/lunch options for a decent price. (Roughly under 10.00 for each item on the food menu) My friends and I shared the spicy hand cut fries and I had the pulled pork sandwich. The spicy fries was so crispy and the seasoning was just right. It was pretty addicting. I want more right now....sigh. The pulled pork sandwich was delicious, it was so juicy. Yum! My friend who ordered the beef brisket sandwich said, it was great and although it may look small it was actually very filling. My other friend had the Mom's Malaysian Curry with Roti and he claimed it's better than the curry he had from the Malaysian restaurant... (I don't know about that... You guys can be the judge.) I legit think their burgers are hands down my favorite! Like I'm really not a burger person but I enjoy theirs and their fries both regular and sweet potato fries! I wanted to try their Mexican soda but I wasn't to sure about it and didn't want to be disappointed so I deff might just try it next time. I loved their scones as well and their chocolate chip cookie Their grilled cheese was delicious as well nothing to crazy just your regular grilled cheese. I had wanted to try this place for the past 2 years. No idea why I never made the time - had it bookmarked and everything! Today I stopped by around 1:30pm and was happy that there was a table open. When we walked in, we were not greeted and I was unsure if I was supposed to order at the register or not. I walked to the register to ask and the lady told me I could sit down and they will be with my shortly. Some places are like that though, so I was fine with it but I just found it a bit weird that no one took us to a table. The first thing I noticed was that it was quite warm inside even though there were two air conditioners on. However, it was bearable. The staff was pretty attentive and did their best to service us - coming around with water every so often and the such. 10/10 service (disregarding not being greeted upon entry). The food was just okay. I had their Eggs Florentine with home fries and my sister had the pulled pork sandwich. We shared an order of sweet potato fries to share between us. Initially, everything was delicious but less than halfway through the meal, we both thought that the food was nothing special. Neither of us wanted to continue eating - and we weren't really full. It was a "this is good but I wouldn't order this again" kind of feeling. I'm not sure how to explain it (whoops). However, the sweet potato fries were well cooked and crispy. Came here today with friends and had a very great time here. The wait was 20 to 30 minutes at around 130 in the afternoon on Sunday. Seems like a really popular place. I recommend to come here a bit earlier for eating in. I think a small group would be suitable for this place since it doesn't have a lot of seats indoors. After we got seated, the staff was very attentive. Water was served right away, and after we ordered drinks come soon after. We ordered the sweet potato fries with Sriracha mayo, bacon egg arugula sandwich, the chicken curry, blueberry pancakes, hot cocoa, drip coffee and unsweetened ice tea. The fries are sooo good, not greasy at all and just fresh out of the fryer. The curry was amazing, just the right amount of spices and eaten with the flaky roti was yums. Although I didn't get to try the sandwich, the egg was perfect and gooey, so expect it to be a bit messy and the bacon looks so crispy. The pancakes were very light and somewhat airy textured, it comes with fresh fruits which was sweet and juicy. The drinks were pretty good too. I was surprised that they have unsweetened ice tea, it was just what I wanted with my meal. Overall the ambience was casual, place was well lit with sunlight, great food, and good price. Parking might be a bit hard to find. Outside there's a small yard where you can leave your dog, while you eat in, which is very convenient. The blueberry pancakes came with fresh fruit and are a good choice for someone who wants something a little lighter. We also got the mom's Malaysian chicken curry. This was on the heavier side but still very yummy. The only downside is that there is very limited seating. There are around 5 tables and a small bar seating area. Parlay is a small diner like cafe that can be easily missed if you're not looking for it. The name of the place does not stand on the door or wall. Their walls are completely windows and the name is written in black font on one of the panes. However, although small, this place proves to be a gem in the area. It's a great place to grab brunch and have a conversation with someone. A meal can be bought for under $10 and although there was only one waitress, the service was great. The place can only seat up to about 30 customers though so I wouldnt suggest bringing a party larger than 6. As for the food, I have tried eggs florentine and a mushroom and onion omelette. They were both served with a side of home fries. The eggs were cooked well but they could have used a bit more seasoning. In addition I have also tried their cappucino and latte, both of which were great. These drinks also came with foam art designs, making this a great spot for any foodies looking for a great photo. As a tip be sure to bring cash as this place is cash only. Overall this place was great and I see myself coming here again in the future. read more

There are a few things that bothered me here today. 1. Cash only! No credit / debit and they charge $1.50 for the ATM inside. What age and day do we live in? 2. The chicken sandwich was overwhelming. Been here a few times since I grew up a few blocks away. It's nice to have a nice "hip" new spot owned by Asian people. I had the omelette last time and was not impressed, but this time had the eggs royale. The egg was perfectly runny and the home fries delicious. We also had the sweet potatoe fries which are a crowd favourite. For drink fare, I had the match a latte which looks better than it tastes - I enjoy tea, but I think the lack of sweetness and milkiness wasn't for me. Ordered the Fried Chicken Sandwich, Malaysian Curry and two drinks this past Sunday around noon. Although it was extremely busy I only waited 15 minutes and the food was out in less than 15 minutes as well. Overall the experience was great but the best thing about this restaurant is the location. It is not far from my neighborhood and it is the only one of its kind. The pricing is also very cheap and they give you a good amount of food without the surcharge other brunch places charge. I would say the only thing that bothered me was that there was a lot of commotion if you sit on the bar stools near the cashier. read more

I have seen Parlay in passing many times and have always had that little voice in my head say, how good could it be if it's bordering Sunset Park and Boro Park. Well, today I decided to give it a try. My friend and I went for breakfast. Upon walking In I was greated by a friendly waitress who brought menus and water to the table. She gave us a couple of minutes to decide what we wanted and came back right away to take the order and serve us coffee. I think the coffee was alright. I was weirded out by it being served in a black mug because without the milk it was an awkward sight. We ordered the eggs benedict, grilled cheese, and French toast. I asked the waitress if she could add ketchup to the grilled cheese --- well, I have never seen someone make that much of a fuss ---. First she said no, then she asked the woman behind the counter, then she went to the kitchen and finally she came back and said yes. That was weird. Anyhow, the French toast was tasty, soft and perfectly fried served with seasonal fruits. But the eggs benedict, although tasty, had an undercooked egg. That wasn't pleasant. The grilled cheese with the ketchup inside was the highlight. Loved that it was on sourdough and toasted so perfectly. Yum. Came back here cos i was craving their sweet potato fries. I love their sweet potato fries w the sriracha and mayo sauce. The fries are NOT soggy, very crispy and surprisingly NOT greasy. This place is such a gem in 8th Avenue. It reminds me of all the countless cute little cafes you'd find in Williamsburg. I got the eggs Benedict and it was so darn good. The potatoes were amazing too. They were super flavorful that I didn't even really have to use ketchup for it and trust me, I like to drench my potatoes in ketchup. Fast-forward to 2015, and Parlay opens, a welcome addition to an area sorely lacking in diverse businesses. After checking the menu, noticeably, there's an ample amount of choices for brunch, light snacks, or simply coffee. As I had stopped in one early Friday evening with friends, we decided to meet up for some pre-dinner coffee/snacking. Fries with sriracha mayo hit the spot as did my cortado, which was done correctly. Added bonus for latte art. In the evenings, it's dimly lit for ambiance, and other tables were occupied by laptop hoarders. Parlay is a great addition to the neighborhood. Previously, if you wanted to get coffee in Sunset other than at a chinese bakery, you would probably have to travel to another hood. Parlay was greatly embraced by the people in Sunset for being the first of its kind. However, I feel that it's high reviews partially comes from the lack of cafes of its kind in Sunset. I've been here 2 times and each time was just a-ok. The first time I came in, I ordered an americano. The americano was weak and tasted incredibly diluted (I know americano is just espresso + water but it tasted just like water). On my second visit, I asked for a soy latte since my partner cannot have milk. I'm not sure if the barista actually gave us soy since my partner had some problems after drinking the latte. However, I can attest that their food does taste pretty good and it's a great place to get brunch in Sunset. While I don't not like this cafe, I don't love it. Parlay has such great potential but I fear if another cafe of its kind open in the neighborhood, the patrons of Parlay might move over. read more

I ordered a bunch of brunch items but the masaman curry was off the hook! accompanied by 2 light and flaky pancakes. Coffee is also on point! Tasty brunch selection BUT service was slow. From start to finish, my group of 3 spent 1.5 hrs in here. While waiting for my table, I witnessed guests experiencing difficulty getting servers attention for ordering or checks and dirty tables not immediately cleaned. Which is why they're receiving 4 stars from me. Staff was working hard but didn't seem like anyone was in charge or directing to keep staff organized. Everyone was doing everything for all tables. Perhaps splitting the room into sections and disignating a person to take care of specific tasks to keep it organized.
