I decided to come back for a quick bite ; I must say that tonight, everything was perfect: from Danielle and Roberto the gracious managers to Susan the server, everyone was super professional and courteous. The restaurant at 7 pm was starting to get full and the atmosphere was relaxing with the live music playing softly in the background. We were not very hungry so we split a Cesar salad which is one of the best in town , with just the right amount of lemony anchovy based dressing and topped with the additively tasting pickled white anchovy. We had never tried their wood fired pizza before and we had the seasonal mushroom with roasted balsamic garlic : it was delicious. Of course the bread basket is off the chart specially the corn bread. With two glasses of Chardonnay and Riesling poured generously and reasonably priced, I had a short but smooth evening! Since businesses started reopening, my date and I have dined at a number of high end restaurants. Last Wednesday evening, we were at the Parkway Grill. We carefully selected our table, because we could tell that the sun might be an issue. The tables had to be separated the mandated six feet apart; some were more than six feet apart. We took the table to the east of the walkway, very near the driveway. Because my date cannot be in the sun, I was seated facing west wearing sunglasses and hoping the umbrella in front of me (behind my date) would protect me from staring into the sun. It did not. As the sun set, to the north of the umbrella, I found my situation untenable and slowly, incrementally, began to turn the table in order to put the umbrella in between the sun and me. This was strange and a bit embarrassing, because the tables were nicely arranged, except for our table which was angled into the flow of restaurant staff and diner traffic. Eventually, it became so ridiculous, I put the table back. Mind you, the staff knew I had a problem. Our food arrived. I didn't enjoy it. I suppose it was passable. The reason I didn't enjoy it was that every time I looked at my date to listen or talk, the sun was directly in my eyes. I was miserable. I mentioned moving the umbrella to the waitress, who informed me that the umbrella couldn't be moved, because then it would be in other guests' eye. Let me ask you, when is it my turn? The world is telling me to curtail my life, for the health of others, ok. I go out for a nice dinner and am told, you get to be miserable, because it is not your turn for shade. When is it my turn? I got up and starting messing with the giant umbrella. I weigh about 100 pounds, no lie, so there I was incorrectly operating this giant umbrella and not one staff member offered to help - they saw me. The entire episode was embarrassing. Perhaps the staff found it comical. Finally, a male staff member walked by (not a waiter, a porter or something) and I said to him, "Let me tell you, this is one of the worst f*&king meals I've had in my life." He gazed at me. "Did you hear me?" I asked. He replied in the affirmative. "Good." My date was in shock. A few minutes later the man returned to try to fix the problem. I was almost done with my tasteless meal. By the time the dessert arrived, the sun was no longer a problem. We didn't order alcohol and managed to spend about $150. It should have never gotten to the point where, out of frustration, I said what I did to the staff member. I don't know that I will ever dine at the Parkway Grill again. read more

This was my first and quite possibly last time dining here. The ambiance and architecture had a very pretty rustic church feel to it, so I was excited to check this place out. The menu selection was very limited, but we decided on the crab cakes for an appetizer. Unfortunately, they were mushy and tasteless. Almost hard to get down, but we were hungry! We ordered a bottle of Pinot Grigio which wasn't as cold as it should've been. By the last glass it was finally chilled properly. We were not told what the specials were. We ordered the rack of lamb and filet mignon. The lamb came with 2 fatty chops covered with a cold, soggy green vegetable atop something like black beans. It was burned on the outside and cold inside. It was so dark, I was starting to feel it was intentional to cover up something. My husband's filet was cold and not cooked as ordered. It came with the same soggy green vegetable atop. So weird and unappealing. The bread basket was ornate, but I only recommend if you like a super salty surprise! After looking at the photos of other bread baskets on reviews, it appears we didn't actually get the bread that the butter could've actually gotten used on. It looks like a fruit nut bread. I probably would've tried that had we received it. Then, since we were still hungry, we ordered the creme brûlée. It came as a smore!!! Slipped all over the plate. Couldn't get it on a spoon or fork without difficulties. What is this???smh. To summarize, eat before you go. You will not get full here by any means of the imagination. For the price we paid, definitely not worth it. Just sad to have to be negative. I wanted to like this place. read more

However, this was the first time I ever got food poisoning from a restaurant, presumably from the bone-in filet (we didn't share this dish). I've been a return diner at the Parkway for more than 25 years and it has always been excellent--excellent food, excellent service, beautiful ambiance. It's what I call a destination restaurant--a place worthy of the drive even if it's not so close by. I discovered the Parkway when I lived in Glendale in the 90s. Now, a few moves later, I'm about a half-hour farther west of Pasadena but--especially on special occasions--I still make the drive and I'm always glad when I do! If you've never been, you owe it to yourself, to discover what is unquestionably one of LA's best restaurants. And in a place like LA, with so many stellar choices, the Parkway is no small achievement! read more

I must have passed by this place so many times when I go to Pasadena, but finally stopped by here for dinner when we took an out-of-towner from Chicago here in late April. While the catfish seemed popular per Yelp recommendations, we saw it at the table next to us and it looked like a labor-intensive meal to tackle. I opted for the grilled filet mignon, medium rare, and it came with mashed potatoes and mushroom ragout. My meat arrived at my table bloody, just the way I liked it, and while I had the best intentions of saving half of it for tomorrow so I could have room for dessert, it was just so damn good that pretty soon I ended up with an empty plate and I didn't even make it to dessert! They have a parking lot for valet parking, but you can get street parking right outside the restaurant. The time restrictions are lifted after 7 pm. read more

Here's what I've ordered for $45 DineLA 3 course dinner: Bacon Wrapped Dates, Cabrales Blue Cheese, Caramelized Brussel Sprouts, Pink Lady Apple, Pistachios, Creme Fraiche (Appetizer): Bacon wrapped dates tasted exactly what it sounded like - meaty flavor from bacon and that sweetness flavor from dates. Good appetizer to start with. (4/5) Seared Scallops, Herb Infused Farro Risotto, Crispy Kale, Charred Tomato (Entree): It was decent, but it didn't blown me away (especially risotto); however, I did like the crispy kale. (3.5/5) Creme Brulee Napoleon, Crisp Phyllo Squares Layered with Vanilla Bean Custard, Caramel Sauce (Dessert): OMG OMG OMG - IT WAS SO GOOOOOD! Phyllo was crunchy and sweetness was just right. o7.14.14 Birthday Dinner #2 X dine LA I really wanted to give Parkway a 5 star because our waiter, Denny?, gave me flowers and a free dessert for my birthday. They are actually nice and sweet. Not to mention we sat down past 9pm and it closes at 10pm on a Monday. We went for the dine LA menu because it our little tradition. Dine LA twice a year. Appetizers: the shrimp corn dog (though a lil fishy) and crab cakes were really delicious! The Caesar salad, however, wasn't the best one I have had. I think there wasn't enough cheese and sauce. On top of that, it came in a whole leaf where you have to cut it yourself. Main entrees: all delicious - pasta (yum), 2 filet mignon - medium rare. I really liked mine because it was more rare than the one my friend got. But no complain. All delish. Desserts: The one I liked the most was the creme brulee napoleon. *DINE LA REVIEW* Made a reservation through OpenTable, since they offered a prix fixe menu for LA Restaurant week for $50. They have valet parking. We had 8pm reservations, but it took them around 8 minutes to seat us. We noticed upon sitting that it was louder than expected. We were brought a bread basket (featuring 4 types) and butter. Our server arrived right away and I started with the raw oysters with a glass of champagne (an additional $21), while my date started with a Moscow Mule. I rate the oysters average. After our first round of drinks, we ordered Walter Hansel Pinot Noir, based upon the recommendation of our server. It was an excellent choice. I ordered from the menu: Caesar Salad (buttered brioche croutons, tuscan white anchovies, shaved reggiano): excellent; I love when restaurants add real anchovies Pork chop over brussel sprouts: brussels sprouts were prepared simply (olive oil?) and were perfect; I thought the pork chop(prepared medium) was a bit dry Meyer Lemon custard w/pistachio ice cream and raspberries in its own puree: Lemon custard average, pistachio ice cream was excellent. Date ordered: Fried Calamari: average/typical Filet Mignon w/yukon potatoes: very good/very tender Creme Brulee (crips phyllo squares layered w/vanilla bean custard & caramel sauce): unique and different approach Ended with a couple of cappuccinos, which were prepared perfect. Sitting in the bar at Parkway is our favorite night out in Pasadena and always our first choice when we get a chance for a night out away from the kids- the staff always make you feel special and service is impeccable. However on this last trip, we were shocked to learn that the bar staff of many years have left for different reasons - We quickly realized that it was the staff and their service that made the experience so memorable and not necessarily the food or the wine. I am aware it would be very difficult to replace staff so experienced, but one would think a place of this caliber could certainly do better than the gentleman who needed to look at a recipe for every drink he made that evening and could not stop talking about his film aspirations. read more

This restaurant by far has the best value for the DineLA week. For $35, you get a two course meal with yummy foods. Unlike the past, the menu selections for dineLA this year is fantastic. We went there for lunch and the foods are delicious. Both my wife and I had Mexican shrimp salad. I have to say this one of the best shrimp salads I have ever had. The shrimps are big and fresh. For the min dish, while I select shrimp linguine, my chose the prime rib sandwich. Both dishes were well done and delicious. I like mine better as the combination of the shrimp and the source to go along with the pasta is perfectly done. The shrimp is fresh and bouncy and the pasta is cooked to al dente. Everyone should try out their dineLA menu for lunch or dinner. We will go to try out their dinner menu next week before the end of dineLA week. read more

Belated Valentine's Day dinner. We ate at the bar as there were no indoor seating available. Drinks and food were great albeit pricey. Service was very friendly and timely. Excellent ambiance ie great place for special occasion. Easy valet service if rather not park on street. The major minus of the place was the outdoor seating area which is a total mismatch for the restaurant and should be abolished now that we are over Covid. We were supposed to be sitting there but opted to do bar instead. Dont agree to outside seating when you make the reservation. Come a different day. read more
