This is an elegant restaurant with a lot of history attached to it including being the place where JFK proposed to Jackie Bouvier. The place was somewhat empty at 10:35 AM on a Sunday morning and we were seated right away. Our server brought us the menu and a gentleman going around with juice and coffee offered us drinks within a few minutes. I ordered the King bagel sandwich. It was a good sized sandwich that was filling. Breakfast potatoes were good. Although the place had few customers, we did not see our server again and we were not approached for a coffee refill. A different server came over and asked if we were done as he brought the check. We asked him for more coffee and he did so after a few minutes. We might have tried their famous Boston Cream pie if the check hadn't been brought and if we had been asked if we wanted to order something else. Someone had made these for a potluck and my memories were of true butter rolls. This was more of a very soft texture milk roll. Tried a cup of their clam chowder and this is 110% authentic New England clam chowder- the taste, perfection: creamy, thick, lots of clam morsels in every swallow. The best thing I had here. Hubs had a hamburger and I had a herbed chicken sandwich. Both were sadly dry. The roll was nicely crisped. My fruit salad saved me- the cantaloupe was sweet and chilled. Ambiance, attentiveness of staff is outstanding. Loved the portrait of Harvey Parker, the supposed ghost alive and well at this hotel. Will we see him? Parker rolls were the best I've had, warm and so good with butter. Hot tea with lemon and honey hit the spot. I had the a cup of clam chowder. It was creamy and had just enough clams and potatoes. The short rib grilled cheese was delicious. Beef was tender and the cheese was a good compliment. The baked scrod wasn't bad. This is the place that invented the Parker Rolls and Boston Cream Pie. Boston Cream Pie was good. Texture of the cake wasn't that soft. Host & server were great. We drove into town from The Cape to visit a friend who had undergone surgery earlier in the month. We decided to go to someplace for lunch that had an historic aesthetic, like the Union Oyster House, or The Warren, so we hit upon Parker's Restaurant at The Parker House Hotel. Wood paneled boiserie and chandeliers greeted us and we got right to work ordering dishes Parker's is famous for creating. I had some light and airy Parker House rolls, (invented there) and some award-winning New England Clam Chowder, Baked Boston Scrod with buttered crumbs (also invented there), with mashed potatoes and veggies with a lovely beurre blanc. I finished off my luncheon with Boston Cream Pie (also invented there). The food was top drawer, I must say. The service was also spot on. The only drawback was that the place was a ghost town. In the entire dining room, there were only 3 parties, and it was 12:30pm when we got there! A real pity. If you're looking for someplace to make a splash for someone, go here, but for brunch, which I suspect is much busier. You'll love it. read more

I came here for a Saturday brunch. And service was smooth, and there was a nice selection of brunch foods options including omelettes and pancakes. It's a very beautiful restaurant with tall ceilings inside the hotel. It felt very historic. The highlight of the meal was the Boston cream pie. I can see why people visit here for this. The only small thing to note is that if you come for a Saturday brunch, they technically start closing around 2pm. We had a 1pm reservation, and they let us stay until 2:45pm but they had to ask us to leave as they were clearing up. Still, it was a good experience. read more

Came here because this is the place that had the first ever crème pie... but sometimes ancient things should stay ancient. I will first say that their website is not updated and says that jackets are preferred for men and those without collared shirts or wearing shorts will not be allowed in. We called just to confirm dress code and found out that that was not the case. The pie itself was stale and oddly lukewarm (which is weird for a custard). It wasn't flavorful at all and the best part was putting it in the whipped cream to get some semblance of texture and flavor. Half of our table got strawberries with their cake while half didn't. Lovely, classy, elegant historic bar and restaurant. It's allegedly the place where the Boston Cream Pie was invented. Delicious crab cakes, clam chowder, and the bartenders know how to serve drinks. That should be a ridiculous statement to make, but in 2024, one just can't take for granted that bartenders know how to make and serve a proper vodka martini. If you visit Boston, you have to dine here at least once, and you must try the original Boston Cream Pie. My wife and I spent the weekend at the Omni Parker House and enjoyed a great breakfast in their restaurant. On a cold January Sunday, the dining room was less than half full around 930 am. Steeped in history, the old room was beautifully maintained. We loved the white tablecloths, fine china, and cutlery at our table. Our server got us started with drinks before taking our order. My wife got decaf coffee, and I the largest glass of grapefruit juice ever. We both ordered the American breakfast of eggs, toast, bacon/sausage, and potatoes. Our breakfast arrived quickly and was beautifully presented. My scrambled eggs were in a small skillet surrounded by the sides on a large plate. It was very colorful, with bright reds, yellows, and browns. It tasted just as fresh as it looked. I especially enjoyed the peppers and onions mixed with the potatoes hiding under the eggs. So on my trip to Boston, I made it a point to make it to Parker's, specifically for the Boston Cream Pie. Wow!! Hands down the best one I tried while I was there. Not to Mention, Bob H. made the experience so much better by being so attentive and informative. He shared a wealth of knowledge and history in the short time I crammed this Pie down my throat. If you get the opportunity to meet him, talk to him, trust me! Now, to the pie. Boston Cream Pie - This dessert came out beautifully plated, on a bed of dessert suaves and paired with fresh berries, this delivered! Spider design on top, perfectly mastered Chocolate technique, the Pistachios complimented it extremely well, the Custard was soft and velvety, high notes of Vanilla. Everything you could ask for in the dish and very well presented. If you're in Boston and want to try the iconic, official state dessert, no need to venture any further than Parker's Restaurant. Just because a place is famous for creating the first of something, doesn't mean it's the best! I searched their website before coming to Boston so I could get some Boston cream pie and Parker house rolls; I could only find hours from 7-2, but nothing specific about anything but the hotel. After walking over a mile from my hotel, I asked a doorman where to go, I was directed to a coffee shop. Nothing about the place said it was affiliated with Parker House, but they had mini Boston cream pies. I told the lady there I wanted a whole pie, but was told I needed to give 48 hours notice! Nothing on the website said that! I went inside to the restaurant and was told the same thing. I had no choice there but to get the mini version. I foolishly got 6 on my last day there at $10 each and wished I just went to a real bakery and got a better one. I understand that traditionally, there isn't any ganache on the sides, but these cakes are so bland and dry, the nuts on the outside just make it drier and it doesn't have any flavor. On the inside, there is barely any pastry cream. I will never go back there again! read more

Breakfast review. Popped in to grab a quick bite and it was decent. The allure of Parker's easily is the decor and historic dining room which was a throw back to days gone by. The breakfast menu consists of omelettes, french toast and other staples. Food was decent but nothing to write home about. We did get the Boston Cream Pie to try - it was ok. Cake was a tad dry but the cream was good - not too sweet and the raspberry jam was a perfect complement to the pie. Service was excellent. Personally, I wasn't a fan. It was cool to go to such a historial spot. The staff was attentive and friendly. They were on top of water refills and I drink a lot so that was a plus: It was a clean beautiful spot. However, the food was just not there for me. I personally found nothing special about the rolls, they were even almost dry to me. I ignored other reviews and tried the corned beef hash. It had no flavor or and the texture was just unappetizing. The Boston crème pie was beautifully presented but not what was expected flavor wise. I struggle because if they invented it, I guess everyone else is "doing it wrong". It was very good, just not at all what I was expecting to eat. My son said the American breakfast was pretty good. Overall though, for what I paid, I was regretting my choices. read more

I wanted to love this place but was so unimpressed. I'd once seen a show on the Food Network that highlighted the famous Parker House rolls and of course the Boston creme pie. The restaurant is beautiful and obviously has some amazing historical elements. We were seated at a corner table near a beautiful set of stairs and a statue and told later that it was the table where JFK proposed to Jackie. I thought that was really cool and romantic! I could barely stand to wait for the rolls to arrive. We ordered a bottle of white wine but I can't remember the name. Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable about the shortened lunch menu as well as the restaurant's history. She offered suggestions on entrees and informed us that the kitchen would close at 2pm. I ordered the lobster Mac n cheese. My boyfriend ordered the scallops. The rolls arrived and looked like store bought rolls. They weren't warm at all and were even a bit tough. So disappointing! My Mac n cheese was presented nicely and the lobster tasted fresh. Although, I probably wouldn't order the dish again as it was somewhat lack luster. My boyfriend's scallops were over-cooked and tough. We were excited to order the Boston creme pie which we thought would make up for the disappointment of the rolls. I'll avoid the suspense and say that it did not! Another beautiful presentation but did not taste like anything other than store bought or mass produced. We discussed the possibility that lunch items and rolls may be different that dinner items but can't confirm. Overall, a highly disappointing experience for such an iconic establishment. I visited this restaurant for breakfast with my family in July and wanted to see it for its famous "best corned beef hash" and " Boston crème pie." The service was great, always attentive and caring and drinks were always filled. The food was portioned well but lacked taste. The corned beef hash was not the best I've ever had. It was dry and very little corned beef. The Boston cream pie was so tiny and we were told it had no nuts since one in our party has a nut allergy- but it DEFINITELY has nuts. The ambiance felt like I was in the 60s in a fancy breakfast spot but wanted to see more history since it was apparently very famous for JFK and Jackie Kennedy. I've read up on the history of Parker House Hotel and it's restaurant and I was happy to finally come in and have breakfast here. It was pretty quiet and I think there were only two other tables of guests when I came in. The waitress was really friendly and went to get my ice tea for me. I ordered the corn beef and hash with toast and sunny side up eggs on top. The hash was good, it had red peppers and onions. While I was there, the waitress shared a couple of fun bits about the restaurant. This was a place that Julia Child would frequent and sat at the table next to where I was sitting and a young upcoming chef, Emeril Lagasse was cooking. I also sat at the table (#40), where JFK had announced his engagement to Jackie. Food and good conversation, who could ask for more. I hope to eat here again soon! read more

I was pleasantly surprised when I came here for restaurant week. This is a very old and iconic restaurant in Boston. I would highly recommend for locals and tourist alike. Although, I would have to admit that the place does remind me of a scene from The Shining. It is a quiet and more intimate setting that may be suitable for a date or even work meeting. I have been here once before just for their infamous boston creme pie, which is where it originated. As for their food, the best buttersquash ravioli I have had in a while! They also serve warm dinners rolls which is a plus! The scallop scampi came with large well cooked scallops, the only critique is I wish there were more noodles in ratio to the scallops and a squirt of lemon would have completed the dish. Excellent, refined, classics. As a guest in this historic hotel it did not take me long to figure out where I should take supper or to be reminded as to how much I have been missing not making it a destination for a stand alone dining experience. The restaurant's main dining room is refined and the service impeccable. I opted for the pre- theater special because it offered everything I could want and because the price point presented an offer I could not refuse. The opening clam chowder was prepared in the classic New England style with nothing left to be desired. Each ingredient was perfectly balanced. The extra cream (noted on the menu) complimented the chowder and did not detract or dominate. The steak was exceptionally flavorful and a fine cut. The fingerling potatoes were cooked to perfection as were the vegetables - fresh and firm. The Boston Cream Pie was invented here in 1855. The few additions - fresh blueberries and blackberries and decorative finish took nothing away - it simply made the plate more elegant. I'll be back whether a guest or not! read more

3.5 Stars A glamorous piece of Boston's history! The moment you step into the hotel, you can definitely see why the Omni Parker House is a relic of Boston's elite past with it's beautiful drapes, tall ceilings, and grand decor. You definitely feel transported. I've wanted to check out the birthplace of the Boston Creme Pie ever since I moved here and it seemed opportunistic when we found Travelzoo deal ($69, dinner for two -- two apps, two entrees, two desserts). It was simple to make the reservation and we arrived on Saturday at 7pm. Our server was really nice. She came, got our orders promptly, and checked on us throughout entire night. I had read reviews of the spotty service, so it was a pleasant surprise. Water service was also good; they refilled the glasses before they even emptied. The bread was a bit slow, but it was a busy night. We ordered oysters and crab cakes as our appetizers; lobster tails and filet mignon as our entrees; and Boston Creme Pie (of course) and strawberry cheesecake for dessert. The apps were pretty good and came out quickly; though they had the feel of being rushed. My oysters were very fresh and came with a mignonette sauce and (homemade?) cocktail sauce. However, they didn't give me a spoon to scoop any of the sauces, so I had to get creative with a fork (not helpful the vinegar-y mignonette). The quality was good; execution was just rushed. The crab cake was full of crab and it was super tasty. We both also enjoyed our entrees. The lobster was a little small, but as it isn't lobster season, that's on me. The filet was tender and cooked perfectly. When the server came by to drop it off, though, some asparagus fell on the ground and it wasn't replaced. So, not a big deal, but... Dessert was okay. I really liked the Boston Creme Pie. The cake itself was super fluffy and the frosting was just the right amount of sweetness. I also liked the texture that the chopped almonds gave the cake. I can see why this cake is their trademark. The cheesecake was a bit disappointing; it was very close-textured and had a stale quality to it. Overall, it was a good meal and I'm glad we had it for such a steal; but, I wouldn't go back if I had to pay full price because it didn't really compare to other places in its "bracket". There wasn't anything outstanding that really justified the price-tag for me. Hence, the 3.5 star rating. Pro-Tip: If you only want the Boston Creme Pie, go to the bar! read more

The ambiance of the restaurant is very chill but a bit on the fancier side, so it's a bit more dressy. I had an absolutely wonderful evening eating at Parker's Restaurant when I was in Boston for business, and I am so glad I opted to dine-in here while staying at Omni Parker House. I actually hadn't known that JFK had proposed to Jackie O here, so I was definitely history nerding out when I walked into the restaurant and excitedly asked the maître d′ which table it was that he popped the question. I was the first person there for dinner that night, and he made my evening complete when he asked if I'd like to sit down and take a photo at the table. My waiter for the evening was hands down the best waiter I've ever had at a restaurant, and I will probably compare all other waiters now to him. He was incredibly nice, attentive, made wonderful suggestions, and was sure to keep checking in on me and if I needed anything, telling me countless jokes that left me chuckling. Even though I was eating dinner alone, it was one of the most enjoyable meals I've ever had. I decided to order off the pre-theatre menu, and recommend everyone do the same. I FINALLY had some parker house rolls (I'd eaten in the pub for my birthday a few years back and never got them) and they literally were everything I'd dreamed of and more. The french onion soup is superb, although I didn't finish it because I wanted to leave room for dessert. For my main course I went with the salmon, which is definitely ranked in the top 5 salmon I've ever tasted. The spinach it came with could have used a little pizzazz, but I mean, it's spinach. I recommend drinking a white zinfandel with it like I did, it really brings out the flavor of the salmon. For dessert, I naturally went with the Boston cream pie. Heads up, they sell some in the hotel store, and had I not had a conference the next day, I would have purchased a boat load of mini pies and taken them home with me. This one though came with drizzle and whipped cream and strawberries, and now I must try recreating it at home at some point. The food was mediocre and the pie wasn't anything different from what you can get at your local grocery store.
