Absolutely delicious. A bunch of vegan options and things that could be made vegan. I tried the surfer burrito (veganize and added black beans) and went back the next day for the macrobiotic bowl. This cute little cafe is located in DT La Jolla so of course parking isn't the easiest. I don't ever try to park here on the weekends but on the weekdays, I'll park in the neighborhoods that have no parking restrictions so I can stay longer and study for more than 2 hours at a cafe without having to move my car. The first time I tried to come here, they told me their kitchen closed at 5pm even though they don't close until 7pm, which was a bit disappointing. They offer a variety of toasts and breakfast options though, but unfortunately I didn't get to try it. In terms of their drinks, they have a bit of variety when it comes to their flavors, such as the beet latte, turmeric latte, and the honey cinnamon latte. The barista recommended the honey cinnamon latte, so that is what I ended up ordering. The cinnamon was really nicely laced into the latte, however instead of a bold coffee/cream flavor that I get at most coffee shops, the latte was very watery and tasted very dilute. The staff were friendly, but unfortunately the drink fell short. I would say that this would be a decent place to study at if it's not busy since there's a few tables and free wifi. Came here for my birthday brunch and was very happy! On a Sunday morning there were still tables available. The gf berry cacao waffles were amazing!! I usually can't eat sweet breakfast treats because of gluten intolerance so it was nice to have an option. The drinks were great and I loved the interior of the restaurant. This past week while on business in La Jolla, we had Parakeet Cafe provide breakfast. Although I can't speak to the cafe's decor or customer service (you'll have to read the other 250+ reviews from my fellow Yelpers), I can attest that they started off my morning right! So much that we ordered Parakeet Cafe two mornings in a row. First off, the presentation is spectacular. The finishing touches of vibrant, colorful flower petals, berries, and other items like beet spirals set it apart from the competition. Simply a glance at their food makes you happy and want to dig in! Over the course of two days I feasted on: -Avocado Toast (uniquely tasty with a hint of spice from serrano peppers and a pleasant crunch from the pumpkin seeds and mung beans) -Almond Butter Toast (sticky goodness with fresh berries to compliment it perfectly) -Overnight Oats (unique being made with chia pudding, homemade fruit preserves and some nuts and flaxseed to make it a superpower food--easily one of the best Overnight Oats I've ever had!). Parakeet Cafe offers delivery and take out, plus they open early at 6 am. It can often be tough to find quick, healthy breakfast for take-out, so Parakeet Cafe automatically gets kudos from me. I stopped in for breakfast and ordered the green scramble with a side of sliced avocado and Levain toast topped with labneh or a Greek yogurt for $11. The scramble came with chopped asparagus and kale and it was delicious. It was lightly seasoned and the eggs were very well scrambled with a soft texture. Both the asparagus and kale were light sauteed and were cooked just right. If I had any complaint, it would be that the scramble portion was on the small side, but that is just me. The avocado that came on the side were perfectly ripe and the levain toast was very good. I really liked the Greek yogurt spread, but I would of preferred it served in a small vessel, so that I could control the amount I wanted spread onto the bread. It was delicious no doubt. It was a great light breakfast and customer service was top notch. They also make a variety of house baked goods some gluten free and other not. What a lovely surprise find! All the bigger brunch places were packed, so we ended up here and I am so glad we did! Quiet, pleasant and the food was amazing! It was also beautiful, which isn't something I typically note in a review, but everything was presented like carefully-crafted breakfast art and deserves extra accolades for the effort. The gluten free pumpkin cream cheese muffin was the best gluten free muffin I've ever eaten (and I've had thousands). The yogurt and granola was delicious (and again, beautiful). My kids couldn't get enough of their waffles, which is not always the case. They were also delighted with the presentation - something I've literally never heard them comment on before. This is such a cute little cafe in downtown La Jolla. I came here both on a Saturday and a Sunday morning and it gets quite crowded past 10am. I would definitely recommend coming on an early Sunday over a Saturday and because parking is not limited to 2 hours on Sundays. We ordered a hot chocolate and a turmeric latte. Both were delicious and tasted like they were made from great ingredients. The food looks delicious but it is very pricey! Avocado toast is around $8 for a basic toast. Was in the area for a Film and Fashion event, but ended up skipping it (since I was already late and I had missed all the film screenings & would have had to wait for the awards portion along with the after-party any way). I was driving past this quaint little area when the exterior of this cafe stood out to me, I did a double take... scoped the area out for a parking spot, found one with ease and walked back to check out the cafe. Starving and in dire need of something to drink, I ordered an Iced Americano and the Grilled Vegetable Bowl. There were plenty of options to choose from, but I wanted to try something different. I truly enjoyed the Grilled Vegetable Bowl -- the buckwheat noodles is what sold me on it. Also included, a mix of organic veggies -- zucchini, beets, carrots, tomatoes, red onion, corn... something I had no idea what it was until I ate it, nut cheese; topped with a balsamic vinegar dressing. They really give you a good amount -- I had a difficult time finishing it in one sitting. Sitting outside is nice and they have outlets inside (only near a couple tables) if you're doing work. Am overall a pretty big fan of Parakeet and everything it has to offer. This admittedly isn't my favorite of all of their locations due to the sense of indifference in the service and how cramped it is. However, it's a great location at the cove village. Super aesthetic place that's overwhelmingly Instagrammable. I ordered a hot flat black latte and the shakshuka; the former was really good and has become my go-to for all Parakeet stops! The latter was also good, but it wasn't special and erred on the tart tomato sauce (I think I just have a personal preference for more spiced things/slightly sweeter tomato products). Solid food and even more solid drinks, although it is on the pricier end. Will absolutely continue going to Parakeet for the drinks, maybe to try some of their health-conscious food for brunch, but am not very partial to this location. read more

New trendy little cafe in the heart of La Jolla. I hope they are here to stay. The place is modern, clean, with outdoor patio. My friend and i stopped by to check it out on the weekday for breakfast. I had a caprese toast and my friend had a green scramble. The food was beautifully presented and came really fast. All the ingredients are organic, hence the prices are higher but its also La Jolla, so it fits. Everything we had was delicious and the portions were just right. A few people commented that this is super hipster spot, yes, i agree but they do have breakfast and lunch options and usually when i go to these hipster coffee shops, all the do is coffee/espresso, nothing else. I really appreciate coffee shops (cafes) who serve creative, healthy and delicious dishes. I'll be definitely coming back soon to try other breakfast items. This review is representative of the facilities and staff. I came here with a group of five including a stroller. We had just came for coffee and quickly realized that we had made a mistake due to the size of the shop. We ordered coffee from the girl at the counter who was not very friendly and didn't seem to enjoy answering questions from first time visitors. Nonetheless we sat down and made room in the cramped area and waited patiently for our drinks. My coffee came out wrong and I was given something totally different. When I told the girl bringing out the drinks what had happened, she literally looked at me dumbfounded. I couldn't have told her any more simply that I was given the wrong drink. Once it was explained by two others in our party, she understood and brought me my new and correct drink 5 minutes later. Everyone had pretty much drank theirs while I had to hurry and finish mine. We all seemed to enjoy the coffee but it was overpriced and flavorless for the costs that it was. I my main reason for the low review was the sitting area. I HIGHLY doubt this coffee house is abiding by fire department occupancy rating. People have to turn sideways just to walk by you to use the restroom. Their rear-ends bump into you as they manuver around the table next to you to sit down on the bench. If there is a line, good luck getting out of the place. All in all I was not impressed and will look for another coffee shop next time I'm in the area. read more

She recommended this place. It is a bit small and cramped but they have really authentic and creative drinks. We got a latte nitro and a matcha nitro. So good and refreshing. There are pastries, breakfast/snack items, and a bunch of add on from honey lavender, collagen, oats milk etc. There's free wifi, seating, and a bathroom in the back. I'm definitely the person that chooses cafés both on their aesthetic appeal as well as their reviews, which is why I was so excited to try the Parakeet Cafe. Visiting from Las Vegas, I've seen my fair share of quaint restaurants and great coffee. I'd have to say I was a little disappointed by Parakeet-- we arrived a little before 5pm, after confirming that closing was at 7pm. People had raved about the food, so we were excited to try it, until we were informed that the kitchen was already closed for the day. Normally this wouldn't bother me too much, but it wasn't listed anywhere and I wish we were at least warned or told this upon entering (either by an employee or a simple posted sign) so we would've known to plan to not have food. We opted to order drinks instead, however they were out of three (!) different iced teas that my sister requested. Again, this was about two hours before closing, so this was a little disconcerting. I settled for the mint latte, which was absolutely delicious, as well as a lemon thumb, which was also tasty and adorned with a cute edible flower. My sister ended up with one of the last tea options on the menu, the guava ginger, which tasted exactly like a regular brewed iced tea. Decor wise, it's spacious and calming both indoors and outdoors. It's in a beautiful, central location in Little Italy and it's a good working space if you're planning on meeting up with some friends or getting some work done on your laptop. Overall, I was fond of my drink and the decor, but discouraged by the lack of options. I truly did want to like Parakeet, and I may possibly try again another time. read more
