i was genuinely disgusted with everything i saw today. i wanted to get a pastry in the glass and they were literally covered and being swarmed with fruit flies. when i asked if they were display only they said no and that they serve them still. I told them there were bugs in there and they told me it was "normal". last time i checked, bugs on your food is not normal it's nasty. I decided to only get a matcha latte with oat milk since I have it often in general and had had it there before. i got my order and the milk was genuinely curdled and chunky in the drink. how that was considered okay to serve is beyond me. i politely inquired about the state of my drink and they again told me that was "normal" for oat and almond milk despite that not happening to me before and my friend ordering the same thing and hers was fine. they did remake with almond milk and it was fine (without chunks) so clearly that is not "normal". overall for that overpriced drink i was shocked especially in the nice area of la jolla. spoiled milk and food covered in bugs should never be the standard. gross. side note my sister got and açaí bowl at the juicery next door apart of the same business and it was served literally frozen solid while mine was normal. so inconsistent it's insane. read more

Excellent quality dining atmosphere is relaxing and pleasant. Love the location of both restaurants. Just wish they had an add steak or add sausage option on Postmates and add meat options to the menu. I always look for wild caught fish with skin on too and pasture raised eggs poultry and beef. We dropped by this location to grab an after lunch matcha drink and do a work session on a Sunday afternoon. The outdoor seating is cool and mostly shade with a nice constant breeze. They also have a few indoor seats and wifi if needed. There are a lot of on street parking on both sides of the street. We ordered the iced match with a twist that has blue spirulina (first time trying this) and it was pretty good. The lid however was dripping a lot so that can be improved. We also got a brown butter chocolate chunk cookie that was absolutely delicious. The staff are really friendly and helpful and answered all the questions we had. The music is not too loud so work/studying is doable. Overall experience: Nice location for Parakeet Cafe in Silverado St close to La Jolla downtown for a quick coffee grab! read more

I've had this spot bookmarked for ages! I finally stopped in for breakfast and I am glad I did! There are a lot of great choices on the menu (all organic), and the baked goods look amazing, too. I had the mushroom toast, which was great, but a tad expensive at $12 with no side or protein (available for $2 per organic egg). That said, I do plan to return to try more menu items and their drinks. They have a small dog friendly patio, which is great but very tight. You can't get up and move around without brushing another customer. 4 stars because it's a but pricey. Good menu and good food, though, so I'll be back! read more

Indood dining available at 25% but I got my food to go and brought it back to the hotel....Staff is nice I got there early in the morning and ordered a Avocado Toast with Falafel...i don't think I've ever had falafel that tasted like this but I swear these are handmade or something over there...if not they were truly fresh and amazing....The Avocado Toast was hearty and good...like I said Fresh and they had pickled mustard, serrano peppers, crunchy mung beans, cilantro, pumpkin seeds, beet spirals (lots of beet spirals)...way more than the picture....but overall amazing to eat the food from this place! The wispy palm tree wall paper certainly will put a smile on your face. The ambiance is calming and is a clever pull for picture-takers. They serve some health conscience food items (gluten-free and vegan) that are more appropriate for breakfast/ brunch, but are still served all-day long. I chose a slough of items here: The GF *Matcha Waffles* ($11; banana nice cream, chia seeds, organic fresh berries, and maple syrup), *Maple Sage Latte* ($5), *Long Matcha* ($5; matcha with honey), and some baked cookie with a lavender flower. The *waffles* looked spectacular, but were super bland and boring. There was maybe a hint of banana from the very icy 'cream', but nothing more. The addition of matcha was just a complete gimmick since it only served to turn the waffle batter green. The berries though were very fresh and the side of maple syrup was very much welcomed. I did appreciate how fluffy the waffles were and how light the dish was in general. The *long matcha tea* served hot was also rather boring... boringly sweet! It smelled wonderful and earthy, but they added quite a bit of honey. The honey also seemed to make the drink taste extremely generic. The *maple sage latte* though was a delight. A perfect blend of maple sweetness and hint of sage. I requested to have this with almond milk which enhanced the drink greatly. They do have other milk substitutes including coconut and oat milk. Oh, I also bought a cookie... which was very soft! Glaze topping was heavy with lavender flavoring, but the lavender flower was really annoying. Don't eat this, haha... it's just there to make the cookie look pretty for pictures. Cute spot with appealing decorations and healthy food items, but taste is definitely lacking. The inside is pretty small with some seating outside (aka dog friendly), but still cramped and I'm sure it would be hard to find something after ordering first and grabbing your number (which is the process). read more

This has been on my San Diego La Jolla bookmarked list to try since the first person on Yelp stepped through their doors. I have become more interested in trying places that offer a healthy alternative over what seem to have become an overpopulated gastropub scene in our market. We all know fatty foods taste good, but they do bad things to our bodies over time. Parakeet fit the bill for a healthy lunch for part of an Independent Bookstore Crawl lunch one afternoon. Only a block away from Warwick's Bookstore and the heart of La Jolla. We even scored on a parking spot on a busy weekend just across the street! What do they have? Teas, treats and a selection of toasts for days! I had the caprese toast, a matcha tea and a lavender shortbread cookie! The toasts are fresh and out of this world good! I would like to work my way through the toast menu, as they have so many choices to satisfy for breakfast, lunch or even a light dinner. More than I've seen anywhere else. My favorite part of this place is the location, Girard and Prospect just at the doorstep, the patio and the decor. It's cheerful, fun and whimsical. A great place to sip and snack and enjoy the coastal breezes while people watching. Birds of a feather do indeed flock together and if you are like me, you will this lovely cafe too. I have been having some digestive issues and i went into parakeet cafe hoping they would have a natural way to help. I wouldn't usually express having an issue but I am pretty desperate considering laxatives haven't been working. I expressed to the girl that i needed some help navigating between the 'he shou wu' and 'activated charcoal'. the girl had zero patience and was annoyed when I simply asked to be educated. There was no one in line behind me and there was no reason to hurry. After her rude manner and shoving us off to the manager, Frits, that's when the day was saved. He was so nice and helped educate me on what would be most beneficial. He was even willing to try something different and if i didn't like it he would make me something else. He then came over to our table to follow up and because of the issue recommended their wellness shots and on the house! Frits knows how to take care of his customers. I was frustrated to see the same girl as before mouth "she was a bitch" to Frits when he told her the shot was on the house but Frits stayed calm and used the opportunity to educate and correct his teams behavior. Disappointed with the girl but very grateful for Fits. He really saved the day. The service is mostly good although sometimes cashier could give you a little attitude and refuses to answer simple questions but it's tolerable. I just buy my pastries and go. I love this place because it has gluten free pastries without refined sugars so definitely my place to go. read more

Ordered the salmon bowl, two smoothies and had a chocolate cookie. Each was better than the previous thing eaten. Incredibly flavorful without being too heavy / rich. The smoothies are ridiculously yummy. And the cookie! Pure heaven. The service was great. Cool interior and exterior vibes - perfect for a solo meal or a small group.
