A super cute cafe that makes for nice photo ops. I'd say that, paired with their beverages, are the most noteworthy things about Parakeet Cafe. There's a fair amount of seating inside and outdoors, but this cafe is kind of small and narrow, so I wouldn't recommend it for any groups larger than 4 people. My friend and I came here on a Saturday afternoon and were able to order quickly and get a table just as fast. We got our order fairly quickly, too, and my meal was OK! I ordered the breakfast sandwich and thought it was hearty. It was a little lackluster for my liking, so it's not something I'd get again or recommend. My drink, however was refreshing!! This is one of the healthiest cafes that I have ever had the pleasure to dine at! After passing by this location a million times, I was invited by some friends to join them here for lunch. They recommended the Green Goddess Salad, and it was the most artistic and healthy salad that I have ever had. The bed of spring greens is topped with purple radishes, avocado, and fennel. The yellow edible flower garnish was a nice colorful touch as well, and the lemon vinaigrette dressing was absolutely delicious! The service was equally impressive, as Kat took great care of us. She answered all of our questions politely, and she went out of her way to make sure that we were well taken care of throughout the meal. Much to my surprise, even the bussers were equally as kind, as they checked on us periodically and greeted us politely. Whomever is training the staff has done an outstanding job! Came here after a lovely beach day at La Jolla Shores. The location closer to the beach was closed so we came to this location. I'm glad we did because we would not have met Shelby, one of the staff working there. She was so kind, welcoming, patient and friendly. She made our experience a great one. I was pleasantly surprised to see a good variety of gluten free pastries. They even had a gluten free eclair. I got a slice of gf zucchini nut loaf, which was delicious and had a good texture. I also got a gf oatmeal chocolate chip cookie and another slice of the gf zucchini loaf for one of my daughters, who loved them both. I enjoyed my cafe americano. The aesthetics and decor are cute, too, with a birds of a feather theme. Will definitely be coming back. I love parakeet cafe. I had the most amazing bowl here and I can't stop thinking about it. My partner had the Thai Vegan Bowl and I had the Parakeet Bowl. The staff was so friendly and informative and let us know what to avoid concerning spice because my partner has to avoid it. The Thai bowl is a little more sweet than I like but my partner LOVED IT! I really wanted to try the Vegan Carne Asada bowl but was told it was spicy and I didn't want spicy that day. The carne asada is oyster mushrooms which are a favorite so I will definitely try another time. Give parakeet cafe a try. Seating is limited inside and out but the food is so good. One of my favorite breakfast places. Lots of vegan plant based options, both savory and sweet We had the harvest toast which had a wonderful fresh heirloom tomatoes. The green scramble had slices of avocado on the side and was delicious with excellent asparagus. They spare Christmas cup just perfectly sliced up small mixed in with the green egg dish The chocolate cacao mushroom elixir served hot was very good. We liked it even more than the turmeric one. - of course because we love chocolate, but be aware that they put collagen in it so if you are vegan skip that. We also had to send it back because it was served with cow milk not oat milk. Good thing they were honest when we ask them if they were sure. The staff are friendly and patient. Sometimes there's a long line but things tend to move quickly. There's lots of outdoor seating. I will go back to try their vegan chocolate chip cookie. But if you want vegan gelato go nearby to El avocado. Indeed you could actually put the things together and it would be delicious They have a few other locations. Came by on a Sunday morning after taking spin class down the street. There's always a long line when I walk by so this was the first time I decided to wait. The line moved quickly. They only had menus available at the front of the line by the cashier so it might be helpful to hand out menus to back off line or provide QR codes. I got the truffle scramble avocado toast and it was amazing!!! I've never paid $20 for avocado toast and am not sure I would pay that again, but enjoyed trying it once! Service style was counter service and they brought our or food pretty quickly. The decor looked cute but it was too packed to sit inside or even in the immediate patio. We sat on the patio across the sidewalk to have more space since the patio directly in front of the door looked cramped. read more

Full disclosure, I have only ever visited once and have only tried one drink. Based on that one time experience, I can't recommend this cafe. I love the location right across from the ocean. The interior is super cute and the cashier was kind. I ordered the cacao chai latte with oat milk. It was not good at all and cost $6!! That's steep for a bad drink! I wish I had tried something else so I could tell you if it was just that one drink that was bad, but I didn't. Stopped my parakeet for the first time, the service was great from the start with a warm welcome from the register person. After we asked a million questions the young lady (Marina) working behind the coffee bar recommended we try the turmeric latte based on what we said we liked. She nailed it with the recommendation, this was one of the best lattes I've ever had. Not only was it delicious but so beautiful too, Marina took the time to make a beautiful design, I almost didn't want to drink them. I wish I got the girls name at the register but thank you to both of them for their hospitality and recommendations. Parakeet is an amazing local cafe where you can get real healthy foods. I love that they make everything in house and make their food right after you order. It's a restaurant quality in a coffee shop. My favorite is grain and green bowl added grilled salmon and avocado which makes me full for whole day. Their coffee is strong and comes with amazing art. I have a favorite barista but I don't know her name or which day she usually works but her drinks come out amazing every time. Really cute cafe with unique drink options, from a standard latte to turmeric and wellness lattes. I went with a honey cinnamon latte as a recommendation from the barista with oat milk. The flavoring was great, not too sweet and actually tasted like cinnamon and honey and not an artificial sweetener. The cafe itself is small but has fun and vibrant decorations to match the name. Right now only one person is allowed inside at a time and there is some outdoor seating. The staff was friendly, helpful and attentive. The only downside would be the prices, the lattes can get pretty pricey, especially if you change the milk. Overall though I would definitely recommend stopping by and will be back to try some of the food items! read more

I did a mystery picnic last weekend, and this café was one of the spots it sent us to. I'm not sure I ever would've noticed this place if it wasn't for this picnic so I'm so glad that I did! They're located in a great part of La Jolla in a super cute spot. It's pretty small inside but they have a good amount of seating inside and outside considering their size. The ambience is great, light airy and friendly! Right when you walk in, you'll see the counter where you can order and they have a beautiful display of muffins and pastries. They're so much more than a coffee shop. They have a salads and drink choices. They have a restroom for customers which is a huge plus too. I was there on a Saturday afternoon and saw plenty of street parking. It was pretty busy inside but not overwhelming. For our picnic, they prepared a delicious salad, some drinks, and a cinnamon streusel bran muffin. Everything was so good and fresh! I absolutely love the salad and the muffin was very delicious and dense. Half is plenty for one person. The location makes it a great choice if you want to make a day out of being in La Jolla with friends or family, etc.. I look forward to returning! read more

Parakeet LJ. Good food and drinks. This review is for service/operations There are plenty of chairs outside, and a few tables indoor. The overall ordering system/line is nonsense. Disorganized w/ little to no waiting room. You hear everyone saying "excuse me, excuse me" trying to get by and squeeze in. You're not allowed to wait for your drink inside but they also don't tell you this when you order. As I waited inside a guy quickly said "you can't wait in here!" so I decided to sit on one of the chairs (as I wouldn't be in the way). I was afraid he would tell me "you can't sit here either" that would of been ridiculous & glad he didn't! Not feeling welcomed at a coffee shop is so unnecessary. It doesn't work for me. The attitude of the one male individual in particular was so bad. Service matters. And, there's literally a coffee shop across the street. With less fancy coffee I'm sure but iced coffee nonetheless. Suggestion for shop: figure out a better way to call out/deliver drinks. Make it more organic for people to wait. Use your words: kindly tell your customers to wait outside. read more

We went around 5:30 PM on a Friday and it wasn't too crowded. There is an outdoor patio, which would be so nice on a sunny day out in La Jolla. As this cafe has a lot of vegan, gluten free options I was concerned about the use of nuts as I have a nut allergy. The baristas were helpful and checked every item I was interested in to see if it contained nuts and recommended popular items or items that were nut free. My friend and I got a chai latte, a blondie and a cookie and everything was so good!! Parking was surprisingly not bad... there was street parking available!
