Great spot for breakfast, lunch or just a snack. Homemade style food super clean and healthy. Highly recommend trying the lunch bowls and the mini (and cute) pot pies. Friendly staff and great service. They also offer gluten free and sugar free options.

I don't usually order a breakfast burrito as they are often bland and require gobs of salsa for flavor. Not here! From the first bite to the last, no added sauces needed, however, their house-made salsa is incredible. You could put this salsa on a piece of cardboard and it would be amazing. We are not from SD but visit often and this will be a regular stop for us now. Thank you!

Service was great, everyone was nice and attentive. Got an iced Matcha Latte with oat milk and lavender to sweeten. Powdered. I give it an 8, I've had much worse matcha's, but also a bit better. Next time I come I want to try the coffee, because it looks to be their forte. Love the Colombian trip wall con una mascota preciosa. Also got a gluten free muffin, looked rough on the outside, but absolutely delish once unwrapped. Flavor was blueberry, and it was filled with them. The muffin was moist and not grainy like some gluten free ones can be. Not overly sweet, but still with plenty of berry deliciousness. All in all a wonderful stop with enough character to cameo in a 90's rom com.

I ordered a few drinks for my friends and me to try since it was our first time here, and we were heading to the beach after. They hand-whisk their matcha for each drink, which I really appreciate because most matcha spots in San Diego pre-make theirs. I got the regular matcha latte. I assumed it would already be sweetened, but it wasn't, which wasn't a big deal for me since I prefer little to no sweetness. It was still really good: perfect consistency, and you can definitely taste the matcha. My cousin got the matcha cream top (similar to a matcha einspänner), and I loved their vanilla bean syrup(?) that was included in the drink. It had the perfect balance of sweetness and creaminess. My friends also tried the orange latte, and they were pleasantly surprised by the cream on top. The orange flavor was noticeable but still subtle, and the coffee itself was strong. The syrups balanced everything out nicely. Definitely would come back again!

When our table was ready we got seated at the most perfect and cutest table. Our waiter instantly greeted us and took our drink order and went through recommendations. My husband ordered the lobster Benedict and I ordered chilaquiles with birria, which they are some of the best I have ever had. The vanilla lattes were very good as well. Our waiter was amazing, knowledgeable, and very attentive. The restaurant is very cute on the outside as well as the inside! Even though we didn't try their pastries they looked amazing! The restaurant also sells gifts, trinkets and more. We will definitely be back again when we are in the area.

The area is right by the La Joya beach so it was a bit busy and we couldn't find parking in the parking lot they had but luckily there was plenty of parking not too far away. Sugar and Scribe has a very inviting decor and atmosphere. They have a very colorful patio and super cute interior as well. It had a very spring/summery vibe with all the beautiful flower decorations. When we arrived we were lucky that there was no wait, and we got seated right away. Our server was sweet and attentive and came out order right away. I decided to get the fried hot honey chicken and biscuits and my boyfriend got the fried chicken and waffles. Unfortunately, my fried chicken and biscuits were way too salty and I struggled to taste any hot honey. It just tasted like watered down tobasco sauce, which was disappointing! My boyfriend said he loved his fried chicken and waffles. He also thought my chicken wasn't too salty, but I felt it was for me personally. So I guess it might be a preference thing. Overall, we had a good experience there. I would give them another shot and maybe try something else next time!
