Objectively the worst establishment I've ever had the displeasure of getting a coffee from. It is mind-boggling how they have 4.6 stars, so much so that I felt obligated to report fraudulent activity on this platform. The food is served cold, and the quality is putrid. On the other hand, the coffee is served near boiling temperatures, and tasted like it was strained through my grandfather's sock. As for the cherry on top, the guy behind the counter looked like I was bothering him by ordering goods from his place of business. Buddy, if you're reading this, I apologize for putting you through that, it won't happen again. Good riddance. read more

We were staying across the street at the Holiday Inn & I had to be somewhere early and Cafe Vahik was the only place open at 6:00 so it was an easy choice. I went simple and got three eggs, three strips of bacon and sourdough toast with a coffee ($18.05) and this combination when done right is amazing - and he did it right! Love this little hole in the wall bagel shop. We stopped here before we headed out to hike for the day. Bagel sandwiches were great and the service was friendly. My daughter loved the iced caramel macchiato. I liked the California bagel while the rest of my family enjoyed American bagels. On the counter there is a grenade with a number 1 on it. It wasn't fancy, but pretty good-sized, with indoor and outdoor seating. The owner/server was very personable, and there seemed to be quite a few regulars he knew by name. What a great place! Delicious food, varied menu, good vibes, cleanliness and excellent service! The owner of the place, Mojan, is so nice! She allowed me to build myself a fruit smoothie and a panini according to my wishes. Everything came out delicious! I really appreciate her flexibility, not every place allows the customer to make changes or request things that are not already on the menu. My smoothie was made with banana, dates, blueberries, milk and ice. I had the panini on a sesame bagel, with mozzarella, cheddar, basil pesto, tomato, fresh basil leaves and fried eggs. The panini was served to me with their homemade salsa and it was a perfect addition to the panini. My husband had the roast beef panini and devoured it in minutes without leaving a crumb. Cafe Vahik definitely feels more food-forward. They have a great selection of bagels, paninis, and salads. While they do serve coffee, lattes, and smoothies, tasty food and genuinely warm, local service seem to be where they really shine. From my single visit, it was very clear the owner is closely involved and incredibly personable with customers. In the 20-30 minutes I was there, several regulars came in and were greeted by name, with parts of their usual orders remembered. The food prep area is fully visible from the checkout counter, and I could see my food being made with care, which I really appreciated. For food, I ordered: Sunrise Turkey Panini: 5/5 Delicious. Perfectly pressed, warm, cozy, and with a great balance of flavors. If this sandwich is any indication of the rest of the menu, I'm genuinely impressed and excited to try more. For drinks, I ordered: Iced Latte: 4/5 When ordering, it wasn't totally clear whether they offered flavor syrups. In hindsight, I wish I had asked, because the latte itself was decent but left a little to be desired on its own. I think adding any sort of flavor would have elevated it easily. ATMOSPHERE: 4/5 The interior is a bit dated, but it's cozy and fits the quaint, hidden-local-gem vibe of the place. There are also a few outdoor patio seats, which is a nice bonus. This could very well have been a one-off experience. Stopped in for a quick breakfast on a Saturday morning. We were immediately greeted by the owner. We ordered and our coffees and bagel sammies were prepared right before our eyes! We opted to sit outside to enjoy the cool breeze, and we were told we pay after eating. There are three tables on the patio, as well as a few inside. I had the windansea bagel - turkey (or ham), cheese, tomato, basil, and pesto. It was delightful! My husband had the American bagel - bacon, egg, and cheese. The bacon was mixed in with the egg like a mini omelette on the bagel! He enjoyed his sandwich as well. We both had iced mochas, and they were good as well. This is a long overdue updated review. My husband and I regularly pick up from Vahik and have enjoyed everything over the last decade! Our favorites include the yellowtail sandwich, playa Del Norte salad, chickanini, lox bagel, and ceviche. The salad is the only way I can get my husband to eat some greens! The ceviche has a kick to it and the fish is very fresh; it is only available on Thursdays and does run out. We also really love their hot drinks. The chai latte is one of my favorites and my husband always gets a caramel macchiato. Whenever my in-laws visit, they have to go to Vahik's at least once to get their coffee. They even have their own Cafe Moto blend. Vahik is definitely a local favorite. There are many regulars and he somehow remembers everyone's orders. Vahik knows my husband by voice whenever he calls ahead and doesn't even ask for his name for the order. You can call ahead to order; just note that you should provide the details fairly quickly as it can get busy. There are tables inside and a few outside as well. Order first and he'll call you when your food is ready and then you pay. ApplePay is accepted. I definitely recommend Cafe Vahik for great food and drinks. The cafe be but unassuming from the outside though the steady flow of customers are a sign of a good tings! Its a small cafe located near the Windansea Beach. They serve up some killer California-style bagel sandwiches which come loaded with fresh ingredients. They have the classic coffee beverage which is served simple and to the point; nothing fancy. Husband and wife duo are usually manning the front. Their ability to expertly multi-task and handle a heavy flow of orders is a real skill and art form. They even somehow take phone orders among the throng of in-person orders. I like getting "The Farmer" bagel sandwich with egg, goat, cheese, and spinach and eating it at a bench at Windansea Beach, watching the surfers eat salt. OK, come here, but know what you were getting into! Do you remember the soup guy from Seinfeld? The Front guy at this café is a little like that. However, he is brilliant, the food is excellent, and it is worth the trip. Cafe Vahik provides cafe food at a reasonable price, one long walking block from the Wind and Sea La Jolla beach. It is some of the best eggs and coffee I have had snce a trip to Italy a couple of years ago. We spent $30 on a fancy bagel breakfast sandwich and a three egg and bacon breakfast with an iced coffee with oat milk. It was an odd experience and a small café on the corner of a busy street. So happy we went to this place while on vacation. Food was so delicious we ended up going twice! Both times my wife ordered the Baja Burrito and we both enjoyed it! Plenty of flavor and a huge portion size. On our second trip we also got a bagel breakfast sandwich. Again, very delicious. Also, we both loved her iced vanilla oatmilk latte.
