    Coffee and chocolate croissants

One of my go to places for a relaxing coffee and breakfast sandwich. My fav is the sunrise sandwich which has eggs, cheddar cheese, and sliced tomatoes on a flaky croissant for only $7. Brick & Bell is a small but mighty establishment that's been a neighborhood favorite for a while. The service is good, but there is a bit of turnover as most of the staff appears to be college students. However, most are very pleasant and efficient. There's limited indoor & outdoor seating, but why not enjoy your coffee at the beach where there's plenty of seating and only a 5 minute walk.

Today was one of those days that needed just a little pick me up. Walking aimlessly i stumbled across this little coffee shop in La Jolla that turned out was not just a coffee shop. They offered different pastries and food options. Very clean and inviting. The young woman at the cash register suggested the peacan cookies that were wrapped with the cutest ribbon. I had to get them. Thank you for the smiles, treats and making my day better. Recommend highly.

Such a cozy cafe! Really easy to walk to from any store downtown in La Jolla. Great place and prices for breakfast and lunch and for coffee/tea. During my most recent visit, I came for some quick coffee to-go. We barely had to wait in line to order and within 3 minutes of ordering, our lattes were ready. Super fast and quality service! I loved my iced mocha and my husband enjoyed his iced latte. In the future, he would probably add a flavored syrup, but the coffee itself was still good. My iced mocha was perfectly balanced. Not too sweet with a rich mocha flavor and I could still taste my espresso shots. Easy to sit and dine or take everything to go!

I've driven by this place at least a dozen times and really wanted to stop by and finally got the chance today! Parking is a little tricky in La Jolla but a weekday is at least more feasible than a weekend. I arrived around 10:30 a.m. after a hike and the coffee shop was packed! Although I was able to order very quickly and get my food and coffee out fairly quickly! The service is so nice, friendly, warm and gives a really welcoming mom and pop family feel. They offer a variety of pastries and baked items as well as a full breakfast menu! I ordered a latte with oat milk and a spinach quiche and both were delicious! Definitely a really cute spot if you're in the La Jolla area.

A cozy little cafe in La Jolla Cove w a cute brick exterior that stands out from all the other buildings in the area. I had the cranberry and blueberry mini scones and they were some of the best I've had. Not too sweet and just the right texture! There is some seating outside under the umbrellas, but space gets kind of tight when there's more than a few people in line. Cranberry scone: 4/5 Blueberry scone: 5/5

Don't judge me but it's my favorite coffee shop in San Diego, even though I moved to other city. I've ordered different breakfast, pastries, and coffee there, and my go-to now is latte with almond milk. It's always busy place in weekends, but the line moves fast and staff are friendly. There are only outside seats, but it's also great to pickup your coffee and go to La Jolla Cove to chill and stroll.

Intimate little cafe around the corner from our hotel. We came here with coupons for a free pastry from the La Jolla inn By The Sea. So hubby and I each got a scone and bought a bagel and salmon to split. Server was helpful and they have a few tables out front. Loved everything!

We stopped by here on our way back home. After spending our whole vacation eating pancakes and French toast, we wanted something on the lighter end. This place is super cute and was walking distance from our hotel. Our hotel also offered a coupon for a free pastry. I ordered the sunrise sandwich. It was really yummy and was exactly what I was craving I also got a blueberry scone as my complimentary pastry. Both were delicious! Will definitely be back .

I thought the cappuccino I ordered was really good! That's the most important thing. I thought the scone was just ok. Service was ok too. We went on a Sunday morning and it was super busy in there, which speaks well for them but it such a crammed space in front of the register. We sat at one of the little tables outside to eat our scone and have our coffee, and it was a really nice day for it. I highly recommend grabbing some coffee here and heading down to walk by the ocean. It's the perfect location for it!

I ordered a few drinks for my friends and me to try since it was our first time here, and we were heading to the beach after. They hand-whisk their matcha for each drink, which I really appreciate because most matcha spots in San Diego pre-make theirs. I got the regular matcha latte. I assumed it would already be sweetened, but it wasn't, which wasn't a big deal for me since I prefer little to no sweetness. It was still really good: perfect consistency, and you can definitely taste the matcha. My cousin got the matcha cream top (similar to a matcha einspänner), and I loved their vanilla bean syrup(?) that was included in the drink. It had the perfect balance of sweetness and creaminess. My friends also tried the orange latte, and they were pleasantly surprised by the cream on top. The orange flavor was noticeable but still subtle, and the coffee itself was strong. The syrups balanced everything out nicely. Definitely would come back again!

The strawberry matcha was good -- I'd rate it around a 7/10 (and I say that as a matcha lover). It had a nice flavor, but I've definitely had stronger matcha elsewhere. The black sesame latte was my favorite. You can really taste the sesame, which gave it a rich, nutty flavor that stood out compared to other lattes I've tried. Overall, I'm really happy I found this spot and would come back. Next time, I'd love to try more of their drinks -- especially to compare their sesame latte with others.

It was more stew chucks of meat then birria and didn't have any sauce to incorporate everything is, leaving it pretty bland. The server let us know that the menu changed about two months ago and that a lot of the great items were taken off the menu. I'm not sure why this happened but it may have been a mistake. Now for the good, as always service was great and it's the cutest little restaurant. Everyone is always so warm and welcoming and happy to have you. I love that they have tons of seating, a full menu, and parking available. ATMOSPHERE: 5/5 There's lots of seating both indoors and outdoors, and despite packing in a good amount of tables, the space never feels cramped. It's a great option for a coffee date, working while snacking, or just hanging out for a while. The layout makes it easy to settle in without feeling rushed. SERVICE: 4/5 Service is reasonably friendly and polite. My only complaint is that a couple of times I've gone they've seemed short-staffed - not at all the fault of the employees, just something to be aware of if you walk in and don't immediately see or get greeted by anyone. COFFEE: 3.5/5 They have a lot of coffee options on the menu, which is a big plus. So far I've tried the Macadamia Nut Latte (iced, oat milk): 3.5/5 and the Vanilla Latte (iced, oat milk): 4/5. The macadamia nut latte wasn't terribly flavorful, so I probably wouldn't order it again, but if you prefer a latte that isn't sweet, this could actually be perfect for you. The vanilla latte was pretty standard; nothing to write home about, but no real complaints either. I'd happily order it again, especially if I was also grabbing food or planning to sit and work for a bit. FOOD: 4/5 They have a very extensive food menu, which is a big plus. Lots of options across bagels, pastries, toasts, and sandwiches - both savory and sweet. I ordered the Turkey Sandwich, which was tasty and fresh, but I was a bit underwhelmed by the amount of meat. If you're expecting a classic, stacked deli sandwich, you might be disappointed. That said, the flavor and overall quality were still very good. I also love that this spot opens fairly early. If I'm meeting someone for coffee and conversation in this part of Bird Rock, this is usually my first choice.

Aloha Yelpers,…read more Reviews can be subjective and often just reflect how we felt in the moment--sometimes good, sometimes bad. As a business owner and someone who frequents a lot of establishments around the world, I'm always paying extra attention to how different brands and teams operate. After being a regular at Parakeet for the last 6 years, I felt inclined to finally write a review, based purely on appreciation for the all-star team at this location (Kayla, Janelle, Neda, Hailey, Regina, Michelle, Calvin, and all the cooks crushing it in the kitchen daily) and everything they bring to the community. BIG VIBES & Customer Experience Biggest one on the checklist. The energy is always on point from the second I walk in to the second I leave. The entire staff is friendly, welcoming, authentic, and genuinely cares about making the experience top-tier. Also worth noting, they're up at 5 AM to open at 7 AM... which is already heroic. On top of that, this location gets its fair share of entitled, unfriendly, and straight-up rude customers (I've seen it firsthand on the daily). Even then, the ladies and Calvin handle it with patience, professionalism, and still keep the good energy going. That shit is not easy. Attention to Detail Regina and Hailey run a tight operation day to day. Their attention to detail and consistency is honestly unmatched. I've been to plenty of spots around the neighborhood, and no one has it as dialed in as they do. They are also better dressed than other managers in the biz. BIG STYLE POINTS Problem Solving I've watched this team navigate everything--broken equipment, unhappy customers, clogged toilets (lol), bad weather, and difficult delivery drivers yelling at them through Google Translate. And they handle it all without missing a beat and staying composed. Meanwhile, I've seen other places completely implode in similar situations--blaming each other or arguing instead of solving the problem. Not the case here. Always solution-oriented. Extra props to Janelle for unclogging the toilet and Kayla for chasing a grasshopper out the door when it jumped on a table. Yessahhh Consistency Food and drinks are always consistent--fresh, well-seasoned, proper temp, and clean presentation. The cooks are back there working hard but still somehow having a good time while pushing out orders for both dine-in and delivery. The girls and Calvin on bar are always crushing it. Espresso is never burnt, matcha is smooth (no clumpy, low-tier stuff), and the latte art is always on point. Shoutout to Neda, Hailey, Regina, and Calvin for keeping things fast and high quality. Cleanliness Everything is always clean, smells good, and actually put away where it belongs. No shakshuka stains on tables, no scone crumbs everywhere, no sticky coffee floors, no overflowing trash cans--things that, somehow, have become the norm at other nearby spots. All in all, I never leave reviews, so the fact that I'm writing this says something lol. Hopefully whoever reads this--regulars, upper management, or owners--recognizes that this all-star team is what makes this Parakeet location special, and a big reason it continues to bring GREAT VIBES to LJ LET'S GET THEM A PAY RAISE!! From the moment you walk in, you can feel the care and intention behind it all, a genuine commitment to clean, high-quality ingredients that's so rare to find. Knowing they use non-seed oils is a huge plus, and it makes Parakeet one of the most refreshing and trustworthy spots in San Diego for a feel-good meal. My wife, my kids, my closest friends, and I have been loyal customers since Jonathan and Carol first opened their original location, and what incredible people they are. Their warmth, vision, and passion shine through in everything Parakeet has become. Since they opened the La Jolla location, it's been our go-to. I bring my family here all the time, along with friends and clients, and every single visit feels just as wonderful as the last. Beyond the food, everything about the experience feels intentional, from the beautiful presentation to the consistently great service and welcoming atmosphere. Whether it's a coffee, a matcha, or one of their thoughtfully prepared dishes, everything tastes fresh, balanced, and made with love. I also want to give a heartfelt shoutout to the incredible team: Janelle, Kayla, Neda (who honestly makes the best flat white I've ever had), Hailey, and especially Regina (and I'm sure I'm missing someone...sorry if I did!). As the manager, Regina sets the tone for the entire space. You can feel her leadership in how smoothly everything runs, she's attentive, genuinely welcoming, and always making sure guests feel taken care of. She truly elevates the entire experience. The whole staff contributes to such a warm, positive energy. Everyone is kind, helpful, and consistently makes you feel welcomed and appreciated as a guest. It's the kind of place that feels like family. Parakeet Cafe is one of those rare spots you leave feeling better than when you walked in. Great food, Great energy, and incredible people. Huge thanks to Jonathan, Carol, Regina, and the entire team for creating something so special, we'll absolutely keep coming back.
