TLDR: Mid tasting drinks, Poor service, Great scenery (Details below) It was in the morning when we stopped by. Around 8 or 9am. We came from out of town and saw a Starbucks near by but then saw this place. "Encanto Cafe" and thought to myself "I'd give an independent place a try' - bad idea. Although the place looked great. Nice atmosphere great scenery and people were already there enjoying the balcony seating. (By the way, there are stairs to climb in order to get in) Once I got to the cashier to place my order there was a house fly hovering around. As if the fly was a secret shopper listening to my order. They had their windows open so I can understand it how it got in. This doesn't necessarily mean this place is bad, but of course it was bothersome. The lady taking our order was a bit stand off-ish when I asked a few questions. As if once I asked, she knew we were from out of town and sort of kept it short. I got the vibe she likes to deal with her regulars or people who know what they want. As this was an entirely new place for us, I wanted to ask about their popular drinks or if there were any seasonal drinks or special. But all I got was mainly "there's a menu if you want to take a look" They do offer donuts and pastries but as the fly was hovering about (which the cashier ignored as if she pretended it wasn't almost hitting our faces) I was turned off by eating. The drinks we ordered were simple. Matcha and a cold brew. But they tasted plain. The coffee was similar to instant coffee, nescafe tasting (not that it was but it tasted like it) the matcha was "meh" . Oh and NO BATHROOM "did you try across the street?" is what you get from them if you ask. Overall, with poor service, poor tasting drinks and the bothersome fly, I didn't enjoy my time there. Exquisite recipes and flavors. Ambience was splendid as I initially felt a nice, European like feel to the architecture of the place. However, the service I found to be a bit.... Grotesque. Particularly the service provided from the women with the orange/reddish hair. Upon my girlfriend and I's arrival, we were immediately met with a condescending, pretentious energy from her that carried on throughout our one hour dine in experience here. It was a let down truly because once again, the food and ambience was great, but the service was very unwelcoming and we will not be back nor recommend because of this. I can't really comment on how crowded this place gets on weekends, but I came on a weekday and it wasn't too busy. People were constantly coming in and out, but it still felt calm and relaxing. The café itself is super cute with a cozy Victorian-style vibe, and they have both indoor and outdoor seating. The staff was also very welcoming and friendly. My favorite part was definitely the two tables by the huge open windows overlooking the ocean, such a gorgeous view with the wind blowing in my face and honestly worth the visit alone. I had a very disappointing experience here. We came for lunch on a weekday, and the restaurant was almost empty, there was only one other table occupied. Despite that, my sandwich took about 45 minutes to arrive. What was even more frustrating was that my friend, who had ordered before I did and was dining with two kids, didn't receive their food until after we brought it up to the staffs' attention and still they waited for an additional 15 minutes, reaching an hour wait for their food after ordering. They only got their sandwich and flatbread after we asked the staff about the missing order. Instead of apologizing or looking into the issue, both employees immediately assumed that we had already received the food. To prove they didn't, we gave them my friend's table number, they looked completely confused and had no idea what had happened to the order. To make matters worse, another group that arrived about 30 minutes after us ordered the exact same items (a sandwich and a flatbread) and they received their food, finished eating, and left before my friend's order even came out. I understand that mistakes happen, and mix-ups with orders are inevitable sometimes. What made this experience so disappointing wasn't the delay itself, but the complete lack of accountability and empathy. Rather than apologizing for the mistake, the staff seemed to place the blame on us. The final frustration came when my friend took their kids to use the restroom, only to find that it was out of order. As for the food, it was just okay. The chilaquiles were soggy, and the refried beans were so oily that the oil was seeping through the plate. The sandwiches were the best part of the meal. Came here on a Sunday wanting to get a nice breakfast. You order at the counter and seat yourself. You do not need a reservation. There are plenty of porches to sit yourself and enjoy the nice sun. Recently came here for the first time and absolutely loved it! The food, beverage, decor, views and service were all just wonderful. I got the turkey pesto sandwich with an iced chai latte and both were delicious (I could have consumed a whole second round of each)! There is a little bit of indoor seating as well as a small upper terrace and bigger lower street level terrace area. Though this cafe is super cute and inviting, there is a notice to keep computer work to 40 minutes here (and there is not wi-fi for customers) so would not bank on this being a place you come to work for hours. This is completely understandable though for allowing for more foot traffic and people to enjoy the cafe as this is a prime and beautiful location. But absolutely still recommend stopping in for food/drinks and the views. Staff is super friendly and helpful! Classic downtown La Jolla street parking. read more

I ordered an iced coffee and a donut to dine in, but unfortunately, right after my first sip, I accidentally spilled the coffee. I apologized, and the staff was very quick to clean up the mess, which I appreciated. However, as someone with a background in customer service, I was disappointed by the lack of hospitality afterward. ​The shop was completely empty, and the owner even sat nearby to eat lunch, but no one offered to replace the drink--or even asked if I wanted to order a new one. While I know replacing a spilled drink isn't a strict responsibility, offering a small gesture or a replacement goes a long way in hospitality, especially since I had left a generous 18% tip. Came here because we wanted to have a nice lunch in La Jolla at a cute cafe. I ordered what sounded like a basic sandwich, but it ended up being one of the best sandwiches I've ever had in my life! What a surprise, what a gem, what a find. Who knew you could find such a tasty sandwich in a cafe like this. We came for the vibes, but stayed for the food! My experience at this place was once positive, but the service I received on my return (1/17/2026) was disappointing. The lady who helped me seemed snobby, which gave me the impression that I wasn't welcome and that I was being rushed. No policy was communicated when the key was given, and instead of a simple clarification, the situation escalated to banging on the door several times and threatening police involvement- an alarming response given that no disruptive or inappropriate behavior was taking place. Accompanying a partner to a restroom is not an uncommon situation in public spaces, which is why clear communication would have prevented this entirely. The most beautiful cafe I've ever been to. It's very tiny and quaint, but so pretty. I felt like I was in a restaurant, rather than a cafe. I loved it! I had a hazelnut latte which was pretty good! Not my very favorite, but I'll give myself more time to review the full menu next time. The barista was very friendly. The staff brings your drink right up to your table when it's ready, which was a nice touch. One suggestion is to maybe put the WiFi password out. The parking here is very limited on time. 2 hour parking unless you want to pay for longer stay. My first impression on the cafe, it was cute with an outdoor patio. I came on a Wednesday morning, it wasn't busy, I need an outlet for my laptop and there was only one and it was occupied. The cashier said they didn't provided wifi. Lucky I had hotspot on my phone. I order two drinks, one was called Very Green Juice it had Pineapple, Celery, Green Apple, Kale, Parsley, Spinach, Flex Seeds & Coconut Water. I would rate it a 7/10 the flavor is there. My coffee choice was a Pistachio 12 oz, with milk on the rocks. I would give it a 8/10, it was really good. Overall experience i wouldn't recommend it if you want to stay and do some work.
